Tournament 2019 - Round 1 Day 31

The first burst of action since returning from a hiatus ends with today's action. We begin with...

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Gizmo v. Stephanie. The red cue gets the first series today, playing in 12-ball. Eastside's Gizmo took stripes on the second turn of game 1, and he played a calculated-risk style while Southridge's Stephanie focused on measured defense. Gizmo's persistence paid off with a good cut to the bottom left, giving him a win and a 1-0 series lead. The Defenders' Stephanie, showing a little desperation, made a four-ball run to get to her last ball in game 2. It didn't work, as the Sharks' Gizmo pulled back on a three-ball run-out for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Stephanie gave away a wild-card ball in a furious pursuit of a win in game 3. Gizmo nearly made it work, just missing on his last ball at the top right. Stephanie then made a pair for the win to leave Gizmo with a 2-1 series win, which sends the host to the second round.

HP Field Events Center, Midland: Fuchsia v. Andrew. The silver cue comes aboard for a 9-ball series. Central's Andrew made a good showing with a late four-ball run in game 1, but he missed on the 9, and Midland's Fuchsia swept it up for the win and 1-0 series lead. Game 2 was a bit more balanced at the end, with the Predators' Fuchsia poking in a pair, only for the Warriors' Andrew to upstage her on a three-ball run-out. Andrew's win tied the series at 1. Andrew started with a four-ball run in game 3, but his 5-9 kick-combination attempt didn't work out. Fuchsia made the 5 and then converted a 6-9 combination to the top right instead, winning the game and taking the series 2-1 to put herself in a series versus the Harrison Specters' Lexi in the second round.

Kraft Forum, Royal: Kayla v. Blizzard. The red cue takes its turn in 9-ball with this series. Game 1 was a balanced battle between the players, with Everton's Blizzard just nabbing the win on the final shot after Royal's Kayla left the 9 too close to the bottom right. Blizzard leads the series 1-0. The Crowns' Kayla refused to go down in game 2, making the last two balls after another close battle to best the Eagles' Blizzard this time. Kayla's win tied the series at 1 game apiece. Game 3 saw a drastic drop in the quality of play, most notably when Blizzard missed a simple cut on the 9 at the top right. Kayla tapped it in for the win and 2-1 series win, earning the right to host Midland Predators captain Shawn in round two.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Neopolitan v. Hughbert. The silver cue is back now for 10-ball. Infinity's Hughbert had a four-ball run and a healthy share of the offense in game 1, but his miss on the 10 left it for Pearl's Neopolitan to convert for the 1-0 series lead to the host. The Torpedoes' Hughbert made sure to capitalize on his chances in game 2, making a five-ball run and then adding the last two balls after the Surfers' Neopolitan fell short on the counterattack. Hughbert's solid finish tied the series at 1. In game 3, Neopolitan had the big run with a four-ball run, but she still had to convert the 10 from a deceptive angle after Hughbert missed it. Neopolitan did finish the game, taking the 2-1 series win and setting herself up to host Wario of the Southridge Defenders in the second round.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Kiwi v. Nibbles. The silver cue goes again, this time in Accuracy between a pair of captains. Both players remained perfect deep into the game, and they each missed one late, but a mid-game miss from Viewpoint Sound's Nibbles allowed Terrace City's Kiwi the 1-2 win for a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 mirrored the previous battle in many ways, but this time, the Knights' Kiwi was the one with a late miss to squander a good performance as Nibbles walked away with a 1-2 win to tie the series at 1. The two players finally lost their touch in game 3, with the lead going back-and-forth. Kiwi held on at the end for a 4-5 win over Nibbles, taking the series 2-1 and advancing to host the Boston Swifts' Puff II in the second round.

Nestle's Warriors Hall, Central: Twilight v. Klaus. After the break, the silver cue keeps going with this 7-ball set. Offense didn't come easy in game 1, as it took Atlantic's Klaus making a three-ball run for the confidence to arrive. He missed on the 7, which Central's Twilight cleaned up for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Warriors' Twilight brought a bit more thunder in game 2, attacking with a six-ball run-out on her second turn to keep the Pirates' Klaus at bay. Twilight's big push clinched the series for her at 2-0. Klaus had a three-ball run again in game 3, but it didn't pay off, as Twilight countered with a three-ball run-out to complete the 3-0 series sweep. Twilight will play in the second round.

Apple Center, Todavía: Bells v. Ruby. A pair of Stills teammates clash in this 12-ball series with the red cue. Ruby fought her hardest to stay in game 1 despite Bells starting well, and it nearly worked until Ruby scratched. Bells, by the thinnest margin, made her last ball for the win and a 1-0 series lead. In game 2, Ruby danced delicately around a defensive play from Bells at the bottom left, unwilling to give her teammate the wild-card ball. Bells made the defense hold just long enough before making two shots at the end for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Ruby was spotted three wild-card balls in game 3, but she didn't get much for positioning after Bells' five-ball run at the start. Bells still ended up winning, sweeping the series 3-0 to get to the second round.

Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Citrus v. Leonette. The marquee matchup of the day pits daughter against mother in 7-ball with the red cue. Lighton's Citrus struggled to really corral her shot, while Pacific's Leonette showed just enough patience to escape game 1 with a win and a 1-0 series lead. In game 2, the Volcanoes' Leonette made the 1 on the break, and then converted a tough 2-7 combination to the bottom left to earn the win, clinching the series 2-0 over the Prestige's Citrus. Leonette didn't have enough in her for the sweep, as Citrus made a three-ball run and then picked up the 7 later in game 3 to get her only win. Leonette's 2-1 series win will see her return to this venue to face the Prestige's Nicole in the second round.

Starbucks Arena, Archtown: A. Charlton v. Gabe. A Northeastern rivalry between club-mates will play out in 7-ball with the silver cue. Archtown's A. Charlton made a four-ball run after Maplewood's Gabe scratched in game 1, but she left the 7 up. Gabe made it at the top side, giving himself the 1-0 series lead. The Lumberjacks' Gabe left the 7 near the bottom left on the game 2 break, and then made it with a deflected shot off the 3 a few turns later after the Arrows' Charlton failed to challenge it. Gabe secured the series at 2-0. Charlton refused to suffer a sweep in game 3, making a majority of the shots to claim the win as Gabe settled for a 2-1 series win. Gabe will take on another Northeastern opponent, traveling to visit the Central Warriors' Twilight, in the second round.

Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Katharine v. Sleepy B. The silver cue remains in action for this series of 12-ball. Whitewater's Katharine spotted a wild-card ball early in game 1 to Archtown's Sleepy B., and then overcame that deficit anyway as Sleepy B. failed to execute a fairly lined-up framework. Katharine owns a 1-0 lead in the series. The Arrows' Sleepy B. wove her way to a four-ball run in the middle of game 2, greatly undermining the Shores' Katharine with the effort. Sleepy B. was able to finish at the top side for the win, tying the series at 1. Game 3 looked favorable for Sleepy B. at first, but Katharine erased that with an impressively coordinated five-ball run-out to earn the win. Katharine took the series 2-1 and will host an Urban rival in the Westside Rockers' Chimpy in round two.

Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Hershey v. Avril. The red cue gets the call for an 8-ball series. Game 1 was as even as it gets, as both players chipped in offense and struggled at times. Stonebridge's Hershey clutched up in the end with a long shot on the 8 to the bottom left to take a 1-0 series lead over Web City's Avril. The Wolves' Hershey began game 2 with a four-ball run from the break. After awhile, the Spiders' Avril replied on a seven-ball run, narrowly missing the 8 at the top right. Hershey fired back with a three-ball run-out to seal the win and the series at 2-0. Avril made an early six-ball run in game 3, which Hershey countered on a five-ball run. It wasn't enough, as Avril made the next two shots for the win to salvage a game from the series. Hershey advances on a 2-1 series win, and he'll host Sleepy B. of the Archtown Arrows in the second round.

Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Solaris v. Bianca. Third-years and cousins clash in 13-ball with the red cue. Southridge's Bianca waited too long to make her last move in game 1, allowing Commerce's Solaris to correct poor positioning on both his last ball and the 8 for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Defenders' Bianca managed a five-ball run early in game 2, which brought her time to set up for her final ball. The Tradewinds' Solaris shot poorly and scratched twice, and Bianca eventually took the win to tie the series at 1. In game 3, Solaris started very quickly and got onto the 8 with relative ease, but he couldn't find a space for it. Bianca rallied back with a four-ball run to get close, and then mopped up two shots on the last turn for the comeback win and 2-1 series win. Bianca punched her ticket to the second round.

Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Shaggy v. Solaris. The visitor completes a doubleheader against his own grandmother, an Urban divisional rival, in 7-ball with the red cue. Whitewater's Shaggy put down the 6 in the bottom right and the 7 in the top left on the game 1 break, going up 1-0 in the series over Commerce's Solaris. The Shores' Shaggy began game 2 with a three-ball run from the break, but the Tradewinds' Solaris made his one attack count. He won with a four-ball run-out to tie the series at 1 game apiece. Solaris didn't let Shaggy to the table in game 3, working a three-ball run-out capped by a deflected shot off the 2 to pot the 7 at the bottom right for the win. Solaris won the series 2-1, and is now set to face his mother, the Golden Pilots captain Valencia, in the second round.

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Hoot v. Citrus. The silver cue wraps up a blue-cue-free day with 8-ball. Viewpoint Sound's Hoot had to battle back a bit in game 1 as Lighton's Citrus started on a five-ball run. Hoot came close, but Citrus held him off for the win, giving herself a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 went much slower, with no big runs developing. The Prestige's Citrus fell back into defense at the end, but the Meteors' Hoot overpowered her and got the win, tying the series at 1. Game 3 combined the two that came before, with a bit of sloppy play and a frenetic pace. Hoot just got by Citrus at the end for the 2-1 series win. Hoot will play in the second round.

We'll be postponing Elite again, with likely some action to be a factor on Saturday. Pool returns likely on Sunday.

Tournament 2019 - Round 1 Day 30

We've got another day of pool action ready to go, beginning with...

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Frosty v. Dusty. Two aggressive veterans battle in 12-ball with the blue cue to lead off. Viewpoint Sound's Frosty struck on the break, but poor positioning combined with great set-up play from Golden's Dusty resulted in the visitor winning on a four-ball run-out. Dusty leads the series 1-0. Game 2 was gone in a flash, with the Meteors' Frosty posting a four-ball run that was sandwiched by a pair of three-ball runs from the Pilots' Dusty on her only two turns of the game. Dusty secured the series at 2-0 with the fast win. Game 3 saw both players surrender wild-card balls, although Frosty gave hers back near the end as she scratched. Dusty showed no such mercy, converting her last shot for the win and 3-0 series sweep to head to the second round strong.

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Nibbles v. Roxy. A matinee venue doubleheader finishes with the silver cue in 15-ball. Freedom's Roxy brought game 1 to a quick finish with her 2-15 combination to the top right on her second turn, good for the win and 1-0 series lead over Viewpoint Sound's Nibbles. The Meteors' Nibbles came on strong late in game 2, making eight balls over three turns, but he scratched on the 12. The Cascades' Roxy made the 13 and then banked the 15 to the top left for the win, sealing the series at 2-0. Nibbles again went on a surge of a pair of four-ball runs in game 3, but he scratched on the 14. Roxy took the 15 from ball-in-hand, good enough to earn the 3-0 series sweep as she advances to the second round.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Goldy v. Jason N. The silver cue remains in play for this Accuracy series. Atlantic's Jason N. had a chance to win in regulation in game 1 after making Everton's Goldy miss twice. He scratched while potting the final ball, setting up a long overtime he lost after failing to sink a ball with a cluster-buster. Goldy won 3-4 and took a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 followed a similar course, with the Pirates' Jason N. leading late but scratching. He missed the next shot as well, and the Eagles' Goldy converted for a 3-4 win in one rack this time, clinching the series for herself at 2-0. Goldy and Jason N. maintained a tie deep into game 3 until Jason N. missed three straight shots. Goldy took the win 1-4 and swept the series 3-0 to earn her spot in the second round.

McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Klaus v. Bandit. A couple of strong and young players meet in 13-ball with the red cue. Swordpoint's Bandit came up frustrated in game 1, unable to sink the 1 at the top right. His failings bought Atlantic's Klaus the time to assemble a four-ball run-out for the win and a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 saw more efficient play from the players, with the Blades' Bandit showing a little more strength. The Pirates' Klaus couldn't convert his last ball at the bottom left, and Bandit scooped the 8 in there for the win to tie the series at 1. Bandit made a solid on his break in game 3, and then he held off a rally by Klaus to pick up the win, taking the series 2-1 with a pair of shots at the end. Bandit is through to round two.

Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Rosemary v. Sage. A couple of inexperienced and talented players go at it in Accuracy with the blue cue. Victoria's Sage missed only one shot, her last in the game, taking the 1-3 win over Commerce's Rosemary with a little luck. Sage leads the series at 1-0. The Spurs' Sage had a scratch on the break in game 2, but still managed to claim the win in a sloppy battle that went back-and-forth with the Tradewinds' Rosemary. Sage prevailed 4-5, taking the series at 2-0. Rosemary avoided the sweep in an ugly game 3, banking in the last ball to force in overtime, where Sage missed on the break and Rosemary converted for the 6-7 win. Sage settled for a 2-1 series win to put her in the second round.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Midnight v. Sydney C. An Urban derby is set for 13-ball with the silver cue. Scratches marred an otherwise strong game 1, with Modernistic's Sydney C. overcoming her setback faster than Westside's Midnight. Sydney C. leads the series at 1-0. The Rockers' Midnight tried to find a groove in game 2 as well, coming close on her last ball, but the Union's Sydney C. was just fast enough to put the 8 in the top side for the win. Sydney C. secured the series at 2-0. Game 3 saw Midnight take the early lead, only for Sydney C. to rally ahead late. Sydney C. missed the 8 twice and scratched once, buying Midnight just enough time to create a three-ball run-out to nab the win. Sydney C. took the series 2-1 and will play in the second round.

Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Twinkie III v. Kirstin. The red cue draws in for this series of 10-ball. Whitewater's Twinkie III went with a four-ball run early but then scratched. Everton's Kirstin and Twinkie III then exchanged pairs of shots the rest of the game, giving Kirstin the win and 1-0 series lead. Both players got lax on their shots in game 2, with the Shores' Twinkie III seeing the worst when she scratched on a 7-10 combination attempt. The Eagles' Kirstin instead converted an easier version of that shot to the bottom right for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Both players made three-ball runs in game 3, but it took until Kirstin's second try on the 10 for the decisive ball to fall. Kirstin swept the series 3-0 and will visit Chicky Phil of the Web City Spiders in round two.

Starbucks Arena, Archtown: A. Charlton v. Jennifer. Club-mates clash in Accuracy with the blue cue. Archtown's A. Charlton did enough in game 1 to force overtime, but lost on her second miss in the extra rack as Terrace City's Jennifer finally shut her down for a 2-3 win and 1-0 series lead. The Knights' Jennifer wasn't able to play at the same level in game 2, missing a lot early and some more later. The Arrows' A. Charlton took advantage of it, closing out with a 2-5 win to tie the series at 1. Game 3 started more like the first battle, but Jennifer fell apart in the middle and at the end, a benefit  to A. Charlton, who played perfectly to earn the 0-4 win and 2-1 series win. A. Charlton is confirmed for the second round.

Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Dusky v. Caitlin. A venue doubleheader is completed in 10-ball with the blue cue. Game 1 started a little slow but heated up late, with Archtown's Dusky doing a three-ball run just before Southridge's Caitlin won on a three-ball run-out for the 1-0 lead in the series. The Arrows' Dusky undoubtedly had an advantage on offense with a four-ball run in game 2, but she left the 10 standing, and the Defenders' Caitlin attacked it easily for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Caitlin allowed Dusky to manage a five-ball run after an illegally potted ball in game 3. Caitlin then struck late for a three-ball run but scratched on the 10, and Dusky made it legally to get the win. Caitlin settled for a 2-1 series win, and she'll visit Celestia of the Oceanside Waves in the second round.

Toyota Arena, Freedom: Roxy v. Boots. The host plays her second series today, using the silver cue for 12-ball. Freedom's Roxy made a pair on the break and positioned herself well in game 1, holding off Pearl's Boots late for the win to give Roxy the 1-0 series lead. The Cascades' Roxy played similarly in game 2, setting up after a hot start, but the Surfers' Boots did better this time, attacking the sides and playing defense to pick up her win. Boots tied the series at 1 to set up a decisive final game. Boots struck a solid on the break in game 3, but she couldn't sustain the offense as the 5 wouldn't fall at the bottom side. Roxy's positioning again came through for the win and 2-1 series win that sets her up to face Ted of the Web City Spiders in the second round.

Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Vladimir v. Neopolitan. More 12-ball is on the way in this series with the red cue. Stonebridge's Vladimir struck first in game 1, but he flubbed a set-up shot at the top side, allowing Pearl's Neopolitan to poke a four-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Neopolitan gave away a wild-card ball on the game 2 break, but slowly and surely pulled back. The Wolves' Vladimir surrendered the advantage with an early scratch, and despite getting onto his last ball, Neopolitan was able to come from behind for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Vladimir again received a wild-card ball in game 3, and he took advantage of Neopolitan's late scratch to convert his last ball for the win. Neopolitan took the series 2-1 anyway, advancing to round two.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Puff III v. Max. The silver cue steps in for this series of 15-ball. Everton's Puff III made three balls on the break and had a few other good shots in game 1, but Golden's Max luckily hit the 6 in such a way that the 15 was bumped to the bottom right for his win. Max is up 1-0 in the series. The players didn't get the same good fortunes in game 2, leading to a much longer and more difficult battle. The Eagles' Puff III put an end to it with a five-ball run-out, her win tying the series at 1 with the Pilots' Max. A fast-paced game 3 ended up benefiting Puff III quite well, as she won with a four-ball run-out after Max ended a three-ball run. Puff III won the series 2-1, earning her spot in the second round.

Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Cobalt v. Leonardo. We return to a venue and an event, playing 12-ball with the blue cue this time. Diamond's Leonardo started well, but a giveaway on a wild-card ball and a missed contact ruined his game 1. Stonebridge's Cobalt rallied back with a four-ball run-out from ball-in-hand, banking to the bottom side for the win and 1-0 series lead. The game 2 race hinged on the bottom side, where the Wolves' Cobalt ceded a wild-card ball late. The Gems' Leonardo cashed in, making his last two shots to earn the win, which also tied the series at 1. Leonardo made a pair on the break but also gave Cobalt a wild-card ball. For awhile, it looked like Leonardo would overcome the disadvantage, but he fell apart trying to make his last ball while Cobalt surged with five balls over two shots for the win. Cobalt's 2-1 series win puts him in the second round.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Kirstin v. Puff II. The final series of the day is Accuracy with the silver cue. Everton's Kirstin led for much of game 1, but she missed twice late, and Boston's Puff II locked down a 1-2 win to take a 1-0 series lead with the strong performance. Game 2 was also quite close in the early stages, but the Eagles' Kirstin again flubbed her shots late, and the Swifts' Puff II didn't relent, earning the 1-3 win to clinch the series at 2-0. Kirstin made improvements in game 3, but it wasn't enough, as Puff II played perfect to win 0-1, taking the series in a 3-0 sweep. Puff II will play in the second round.

Tournament 2019 - Round 1 Day 29

A new day of pool is ready to start with...

Home Depot Forum, Web City: Jack v. Nikolai. The red cue has first dibs in today's action, playing 13-ball. Freedom's Nikolai struck first in game 1, but he couldn't make it stand, as Web City's Jack fired back on a couple of short runs. Jack battled for positioning before taking the 8, getting the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Spiders' Jack played evenly with the Cascades' Nikolai to start game 2. Jack turned it up a notch soon after that, making a four-ball run-out to grab the win that sealed the series at 2-0. Jack made a three-ball run from the break in game 3, and he never really faced any danger, sweeping the series 3-0 to get to the second round.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Puff III v. Jake. The red cue stays up for this series of Accuracy. Everton's Puff III had a miss early in game 1, but that was the only flaw in her game. Royal's Jake fell off at the end, allowing Puff III to take a 1-4 win for the 1-0 series lead. Game 2 saw a better performance on both sides, with the Eagles' Puff III waiting until late to miss. Unfortunately for her, that tied the game, and the Crowns' Jake forced overtime, where Puff III missed on the break. Jake converted a shot to win 1-2, tying the series at 1. Puff III again started well until she scratched in game 3, and it got worse when she missed the last ball to force overtime. Puff III's overtime break came close but failed, and Jake converted for the 2-3 comeback win to clinch the series at 2-1. Jake is set to play in the second round.

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Nibbles v. Violetta. The red cue goes again between club-mates in 12-ball. Viewpoint Sound's Nibbles allowed Queens' Violetta to get ahead early on before making his own four-ball run. Nibbles' plays continued with a positioning shot, and he converted the last ball at the top side for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Flames' Violetta struck first again in game 2, and this time she managed to hold onto her lead despite a hard charge near the end from the Meteors' Nibbles. The last ball eluded Nibbles, giving Violetta time to convert her own last shot for the win, tying the series at 1. Nibbles received a wild-card ball at the start of game 3, but he couldn't really do anything with it as his last ball was in a bad position. Violetta did well to play defense while keeping her offense strong enough for the win and 2-1 series win, which puts her through to the second round.

Intel Center, Diamond: Katelynn v. Ted. The silver cue steps in for more 12-ball in this series. Web City's Ted gained an edge early in game 1 and never let it go despite a good comeback effort from Diamond's Katelynn. Ted's strong play earned him a 1-0 lead in the series with the win. The Gems' Katelynn pushed a deep three-ball run at the end of game 2, but also gave up a valuable wild-card ball. The Spiders' Ted held Katelynn off long enough to cash in at the newly-freed bottom right, swiping the win to seal the series at 2-0. Katelynn made five balls over her first two turns in game 3, a remarkable effort that forced Ted to play defense. Ted came pretty close to a comeback, but Katelynn picked up the win anyway. Ted's 2-1 series win puts him in round two.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Bianca v. Panda. The silver cue will continue after the break in 8-ball. Southridge's Bianca had to play from behind for most of game 1, producing a four-ball run on her second turn, but Southern's Panda missed the 8 twice. Bianca cashed it in for the 1-0 series lead instead. The Defenders' Bianca again started a little slow in game 2, but this time the Monarchs' Panda lacked a cutting run early on. Bianca ended up making a three-ball run and setting up the 8 before making it a turn later to clinch the series at 2-0. Bianca assembled a five-ball run late in game 3, but it wouldn't count for anything in the end, as Panda made his early lead stand for the win. Bianca did take the series 2-1 to move into the second round.

Toyota Arena, Freedom: Stripes v. Spice. A veteran and a captain meet in the blue cue's debut for the day in 7-ball. Freedom's Stripes rattled off a six-ball run from the break, including three going down on the opening shot, but she scratched while going for the 7. Victoria's Spice took the free shot for an easy win, leading 1-0 in the series after game 1. Game 2 was similar, as the Cascades' Stripes went with a four-ball run but couldn't find any extra offense. The Spurs' Spice made three balls over her last two turns to snag the win, securing the series at 2-0. Spice made it a sweep with a remarkable finish in game 3, converting a 3-6-7 bank-kick-combination to the bottom right to go up 3-0 on Stripes. Spice's advancement sends her to Modernistic to meet Union rookie Sydney C. in the second round.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: Sage v. Kodiak. A pair of sophomore are ready to battle in 10-ball with the silver cue. Game 1 saw both players struggle on short cuts, leading to a choppy game. Modernistic's Kodiak eventually bested Victoria's Sage by making the 10 on his second attempt, going up 1-0 in the series. The Union's Kodiak had some similar struggles in game 2, but he wouldn't have to labor for long, as the Spurs' Sage unleashed an eight-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Game 3 saw both players employ heavy defense on each other. This worked until the late-game, where Sage broke through on a five-ball run-out for the 2-1 series win over Kodiak. Sage will host Bright of the Pearl Surfers in round two.

Kraft Forum, Royal: Cassie v. Hershey. Another pair of inexperienced players match up for a 12-ball series with the red cue. Royal's Cassie scratched early in game 1, a wide open battle that saw her finish just out of position as Stonebridge's Hershey provided consistent play. Hershey's strong effort earned him a win and a 1-0 series lead. The Wolves' Hershey made two for himself and a wild-card ball for the Crowns' Cassie on the game 2 break. Cassie had a run lined up but couldn't complete it, buying Hershey enough time to position and execute his last four balls for the win. Hershey sealed the series at 2-0 with the win. Cassie wouldn't be denied in game 3, taking the early lead and then using a three-ball run-out to stave off Hershey's late charge. Hershey still won the series 2-1 to put himself in the second round.

UPS Hall, Maplewood: Diddley v. Smudge. A captains' battle between two intertwined teams comes in Rotation with the silver cue. Infinity's Smudge got a bit lucky after a close start in game 1, rolling Maplewood's Diddley over with her six-ball run-out for the 8-2 win and 1-0 series lead. The Lumberjacks' Diddley made a good effort to make a comeback in game 2, but the Torpedoes' Smudge had ridiculous kicks to sink the 9 through traffic and deflect off the 10 to take the 12 at the bottom side for the 8-3 win. Smudge's tricky plays gave her the series at 2-0. Diddley took the luck baton in game 3, making a few good shots en route to his 8-3 win to avoid the sweep. Smudge is satisfied with a 2-1 series win to punch her ticket to the second round.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Neopolitan v. Cubby. The silver cue remains in play for 9-ball. Eastside's Cubby made a four-ball run after a slow start to game 1, but his miss on the 4 ended up allowing Pearl's Neopolitan to double-pot the 4-9 combination to the bottom right for the win. Neopolitan leads the series 1-0. The Surfers' Neopolitan had an untimely scratch in a choppy game 2 battle, allowing the Sharks' Cubby to pick up the last two shots from ball-in-hand for the win to tie the series at 1. Neopolitan scratched at one point early in game 3, but she recovered with a wicked five-ball run-out, including a bank on the 8 to the bottom side to keep it going. Neopolitan claimed the series 2-1, and she will host Quincy of the Terrace City Knights in the second round.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Midnight v. Peach. An Urban Derby with the red cue is in 7-ball. Westside's Midnight and North Modernistic's Peach both had chances to end the game with 1-7 combinations at the top right, but both missed. Midnight then used a three-ball run, but Peach made the last two shots for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Peach began on a four-ball run in game 2, and then added a three-ball run-out at the end after the Rockers' Midnight badly flubbed her shot on the 4. Peach clinched the series at 2-0 with the victory. Peach needed only a pair of shots in game 3, making the 1-7 combination on the first shot after the break to make it a 3-0 series sweep. Peach will visit the Midland Predators' Americus in the second round.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: Jack v. Snuggle. The host plays his second series of the day in 10-ball with the silver cue. Neither player did much to set themselves apart, but a creative game 1 effort from Oceanside's Snuggle was enough for him to take the 1-0 series lead over Web City's Jack. Game 2 went much quicker, as the Spiders' Jack popped a 2-10 kick combination to the top right to cap an early three-ball run-out for the win, which tied the series at 1 with the Waves' Snuggle. In game 3, the offense was frantic, with Snuggle butchering his chance at the win by making the 9 in the wrong pocket. Jack gladly took possession on the 10, putting it away at the top right for the win and 2-1 series win. Jack will host his former teammate, the Diamond Gems' Shadow, in the second round.

McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Isabella v. Panda. The red cue is back for more 7-ball in the visitor's second series today. Atlantic's Isabella did suffer a scratch in game 1, but she still made the last two balls after Southern's Panda couldn't capitalize on her mistake. Isabella is up 1-0 in the series. The Pirates' Isabella couldn't recapture her offense in game 2, although it took the Monarchs' Panda plenty of time to do so. Panda eventually cranked a five-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Isabella missed a couple of shots on the 7, allowing Panda to take a tap-in at the bottom left for the series win at 2-1. Panda will head to the second round, visiting the Tysini Hummingbirds captain Leandra.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Oreo v. Katelynn. The blue cue wraps up the day with an 8-ball series. Neither player found much of a rhythm early in game 1, but Diamond's Katelynn broke out for a four-ball run-out to take a 1-0 series lead over Terrace City's Oreo. The Gems' Katelynn didn't have a chance to follow it up, as the Knights' Oreo stormed ahead with a six-ball run to start game 2. Oreo then converted her last two shots to get the win, tying the series at 1 to make the day's last game meaningful. Oreo didn't want to let Katelynn back in, starting game 3 on a five-ball run after making one of each suit on the break. Katelynn made a couple of short runs, but Oreo held on for the win and 2-1 series win. Oreo will play in the second round.

Select Cricket 2019 - Week 22

The final week of the cricket regular season is upon us, beginning by sorting out where the chips fall in Select. Leading things off on Monday...

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems will rest Pedey after a pair of pool appearances, while the Meteors do the same for Hoot in the opener for the final week. Princess had some pace to start things off, but her 364 left Viewpoint Sound in an awkward starting position. Shadow sent 407 for Diamond, playing at a lower pace as the hosts grab a small lead. Frosty only managed 300 for the Meteors on the second attack in a low-scoring game. Smokey kicked up the pace with 650 for the Gems in a big attack to strengthen their lead. Nibbles fell at a poor 248 for Viewpoint Sound, failing to cover the deficit this time. Katelynn had a solid start before dropping at 260 for Diamond, who are not in danger. Dani couldn't make an impact with 144 for the Meteors, leaving them at a loss with 1056. Leonardo punched 526 for the Gems at the end to seal their win at 1843. Diamond is up to 22-18 while Viewpoint Sound is 17-25 after the loss.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks elect to give Bryant some rest, while the Wolves are sitting Hershey after his pool debut earlier. Juno had a solid start with 484 for Stonebridge, not making it easy on the hosts. Whiskers led off the Maplewood home finale with 654, an excellent turn to give her side the early lead. Cobalt fell short with 214 for the Wolves, leaving the visitors exposed. Diddley's 429 was a strong boost to the lead for the Lumberjacks at the halfway mark of the game. Wild Thing play a respectable turn of 391 for Stonebridge, trying to keep them within striking distance. Summer stumbled at 160 for Maplewood, leaving them vulnerable with a player each to go. Vladimir wasted the chance with a pathetic 85 for the Wolves, capping their loss at 1174. Gabe wasn't great with 146 for the Lumberjacks, but it was enough to take the win at 1389. Maplewood finishes 18-4 at home and moves to 29-14 overall, while Stonebridge dips to 19-23.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Union sit Sydney C. for this finale in the league's biggest rivalry, while the Nighthawks are still without Cheddar in their last regular season game. Peach smashed 676 for North Modernistic on the opening turn, showing just how bad the visitors want the top Select seed. Ms. Puppy fell far short of that mark at 195 for Modernistic. Gal tacked on 407 for the Nighthawks in a solid supporting appearance. Daisy held too low of a pace when she flipped a ball out of play, falling with 176 as the Union are struggling. Lionel kept North Modernistic firmly in control with a strong 575 on his turn. Puff I was stuffed at 267 for Modernistic, who will likely get swept in the season series against their rival. Luigi shelved 476 for the Nighthawks to close their offense at 2134. Kodiak dropped at 276, the Union falling at a mere 914 in their worst game of the year. North Modernistic ends leading Select at 17-5 on the road and 31-13 overall, while Modernistic slides to 18-25.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Yellow Derby gets a two-part finale, with the Spurs sitting Strawberry in their home match, while the Gems have Katelynn on the bench. Shadow tried to wrap up a big turn but fell at 144 for Diamond as he hooked a ball high. Spice pummeled 908 for Victoria, nearly getting caught early but flicking a ball safely on her backhand to save what became a massive turn. Smokey pulled back 509 for the Gems on the second attack, but they remain behind. Yekaterina covered that damage with blistering pace, smoking 511 for the Spurs at the midway point. Pedey didn't do a whole lot with 346 for Diamond, a reasonable turn but not much else. Sage faltered with 227 for Victoria, who remain ahead late in the game. Leonardo looked sharp initially then faded to end with 388 as the Gems suffered a loss at 1387, putting them behind in the Yellow Derby season standings. Mitchell didn't impress with 208 for the Spurs, capping their win at 1854. Victoria remains on the hunt for positioning in the top-4 at 28-14, while Diamond can't lock up the fifth spot yet at 22-19.

Spice was reduced to 408 for Victoria to start their road finale for the year. Smokey had pace on his first two swings, but sent the third high to end at just 72 for Diamond. Yekaterina upped the stakes with 655 for the Spurs, lifting them to a more confident lead on the second attack. Pedey attempted a rally but fell far short at 364 for the Gems, who are likely to go down again. Strawberry collected 384 for Victoria, maintaining their lead at this point as they coast toward the finish. Katelynn pushed with 497 for Diamond, keeping an honest effort going heading into the final turn. Mitchell poked 152 as the Spurs finish the game at 1599. Leonardo didn't challenge it with 65 for the Gems to ice their loss at 998. Victoria jumps again to 29-14, with a 14-8 road record, while Diamond is down to 22-20.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Union sit Daisy for their season finale, while the Meteors begin a split-day road doubleheader without Dani, which close their season as well. Princess looked solid until she sent a ball too high at 227 to end the first turn poorly for Viewpoint Sound. Ms. Puppy pulled Modernistic narrowly ahead with 350 on their opening attack. Hoot pushed the offense higher with 429 for the Meteors, keeping things competitive. Puff I kept escalating the offense with her 511 for the Union to keep the hosts in control of the lead. Frosty slipped up at 308 for Viewpoint Sound, narrowly covering the deficit this time. Kodiak pushed back with 370 for Modernistic, giving their lead a small extension heading into the final turn. Nibbles went for the big play and fell with a mediocre 205 for the Meteors, who lost with 1169. Sydney C. ended with 185 for the Union, capping their win at 1416. Modernistic's final marks are 13-9 at home and 19-25 overall, while Viewpoint Sound is assured of 10th place at 17-26 on the year.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Meteors end their season on the road with Nibbles on the bench, while Gizmo rests from a pool appearance in the Sharks' home finale. Princess ripped 529 with pace for Viewpoint Sound to begin this game. Graham dropped at 314 for Eastside instead, putting the hosts behind at the start. Hoot smacked another 544 as the Meteors stay consistent on the second attack. Chelsea was downed at 227 for the Sharks, the hosts losing ground rapidly at the midway point. Frosty piled on with 834 for Viewpoint Sound, providing a massive extension to their lead. Taylor M. kept it modest with 290 for Eastside, who look dead in the water for this game. Dani tacked on 422 for the Meteors at the end, capping their offense at 2329. Cubby bowed out at 199 as the Sharks brutally lost at 1030. Viewpoint Sound ends with records of 9-13 on the road and 18-26 overall, while Eastside's home slate finishes at 8-14 as they drop to 13-30 overall.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs look to finish strong in their season finale, sitting Mitchell, while Vladimir is out for the Wolves this time. Juno posted a solid 391 for Stonebridge on the opening turn, a positive play from the captain. Spice missed her location on a swing, ending at 270 for Victoria as she sent a ball out of play. Cobalt turned in another decent turn with 364 for the Wolves to maintain their lead for now. Yekaterina cobbled 669 for the Spurs in response, pulling them ahead halfway through the game. Hershey didn't look great with 243 for Stonebridge, narrowly covering the deficit this time. Sage's 120 gave Victoria only a small lead with a player each to go. Wild Thing had a poor stance that led to him scoring only 218 as the Wolves finish the game at 1216. Strawberry did enough with 419 to lift the Spurs to a win at 1478. Victoria finishes up at 16-6 at home and 30-14 overall, assuring a tie for second place in Select while Stonebridge sinks to 19-24.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Sharks finish their season on the road with Chelsea out in what is likely her final season in the league, while the Spiders have Ted taking rest. Graham did reasonably well with 332 for Eastside to start things off. Waluigi more than doubled it with 669 for Web City, confidently putting the hosts ahead early on. Taylor M. popped off with 810 for the Sharks on the second attack, keeping them competitive. Jack fired back with 426 for the Spiders, pulling them close at the midway mark. Gizmo had a frenzied swing that paid off for 560 to strengthen Eastside's lead. Avril took a stumble at 180 for Web City, damaging their hopes of a comeback. Cubby left the Sharks a little exposed with 214, giving them a total of 1916. Chicky Phil came up short at 361 as the Spiders lost with 1636. Eastside is now 14-30 for the year, including 6-16 on the road, while Web City drops to 20-24 overall with a 9-13 home record.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Gems have a doubleheader on tap to finish their year, sitting Leonardo here while the Arrows have A. Charlton out for their penultimate game. Shadow slapped 562 for Diamond to get things going in a positive manner for the visitors. Sally kept things pretty close with 519 for Archtown on their first turn. Smokey kept a high pace but a lofted swing finished his turn at 395 for the Gems. Sleepy B. made progress with 480 for the Arrows this time, pushing them narrowly ahead at this stage. Pedey dipped at 295 for Diamond, who are struggling with the pace of the contest. Hoppy's 200 caused Archtown to fall behind again in a back-and-forth game nearing its completion. Katelynn sprayed 544 for the Gems at the end, finishing their offense at 1796. Dusky rolled 316 for the Arrows, falling short of the mark at 1515 in the loss. Diamond has secured fifth place with records of 12-10 on the road and 23-20 overall, while Archtown dips to 20-23 with the loss.

Juno crushed 831 with fantastic pace for Stonebridge to give them a hearty early lead. Shadow posed a threat for a bit with 553 for Diamond to give them a strong start. Cobalt took a brutal stumble with just 72 for the Wolves on a flimsy second turn. Pedey had a swing and miss at 441, but that was enough to give the Gems a lead midway through the game. Hershey helped Stonebridge get back on track with his solid 434, but they're in for a fight down the stretch. Katelynn matched it with 436, keeping Diamond ahead entering the final turn. Vladimir posted 250 for the Wolves in the end, leaving their total at 1587. Leonardo hammered 778 for the Gems at the end, sealing their win at 2208. Diamond moved to 24-20 and 12-10 at home, while Stonebridge ends the year with a 19-25 overall and an 8-14 road record.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: This Northeastern rivalry marks the end of the Select season. Hoppy sits for the hosts while Summer takes the bench for the visitors. Whiskers took a stumble with 180 for Maplewood early on, sending the partisan home crowd into an uproar. Sally didn't take full advantage of the situation, her 310 giving Archtown only a modest lead. Diddley scattered 535 for the Lumberjacks, doing a better job of getting their offense on track. Sleepy B. stayed level with 329 for the Arrows, causing them to slip slightly behind. Bryant whacked 398 for Maplewood at a high pace, still leaving their lead a bit shaky. Dusky struck for an even 500 for Archtown, pulling the hosts ahead in a thrilling finale to the season. Gabe's 250 didn't look good for the Lumberjacks, sticking them at 1363 for the game. A. Charlton tacked on 441 for the Arrows, the stadium rising in cheers as the final score of 1580 was announced. Archtown will end the year in sixth at 10-12 at home and 21-23 overall, while Maplewood finishes at 29-15 with a road record of 11-11 as they will be stuck with the Westside Rockers in the first round of the Hutton Cup.

Tournament 2019 - Round 1 Day 28

We're back with pool today, beginning with...

Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Katharine v. Fuchsia. The silver cue will lead today off with a 10-ball series. Midland's Fuchsia had an easy majority of offense in game 1, making multiple short runs and picking up the 10 from ball-in-hand after Whitewater's Katharine scratched while potting the 9. Fuchsia leads the series 1-0. Scratches featured heavily early in game 2, but the Predators' Fuchsia locked in her shot on a four-ball run-out at the end to top the Shores' Katharine again. Fuchsia's win sealed the series at 2-0. Fuchsia wouldn't see much of the ball in game 3, as Katharine buckled down and avoided the sweep, winning on a firm six-ball run-out. Fuchsia took the series 2-1 and will visit Commerce Tradewinds captain Tigerette in the second round.

IBM Cathedral, North Modernistic: Gal v. Cassie. The red cue is next up for this 8-ball series. North Modernistic's Gal began with a five-ball run cut short by a scratch, but it was enough of a lead to never feel threatened by Royal's Cassie. Gal coasted to a win and 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Gal scratched on the break of game 2, which led to a very unsuccessful game for the host. The Crowns' Cassie needed just a pair of four-ball runs to easily earn the shutout win, tying the series at 1. Game 3 saw the players maintain fairly even performances. Gal faltered with a tricky play on her last ball, which failed. Cassie then made the last two shots for the win and a 2-1 series win that puts her into the second round on the road against the Boston Swifts' Sweetheart.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Sprinkles v. Kayla. The silver cue is back now for a 15-ball set between veterans. Royal's Kayla needed just a single shot in game 1, sending the 1-3-15 combination into a crowd, where the 15 deflected and spun into the bottom right. Kayla leads 1-0 in the series over Capital City's Sprinkles. The Crowns' Kayla became a bit scratch-happy in game 2 before finding a four-ball run that ended with a double-pot at the top right. The Sharpshooters' Sprinkles then broke out the knife, cutting her way to a five-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Game 3 came down to the end with neither player separating themselves that well. Kayla missed a shot on the 15 by a hair, and Sprinkles put it away at the bottom right for the win. Sprinkles advances to the second round on a 2-1 series win.

Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Twinkie III v. Stealth. We're back where we started the day, this time with the blue cue in hand for 7-ball. Game 1 took a bit more time than expected, as neither player was very precise. Swordpoint's Stealth did have one nice shot, but many turns later, Whitewater's Twinkie III potted the last two balls for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Stealth had a three-ball run early in game 2, but he missed a couple of late, short cuts. The Shores' Twinkie III was no better, leaving the 7 at the bottom left, where Stealth cleaned it up for the win to tie the series at 1. Twinkie III looked in control in game 3, posting a six-ball run but leaving the 7 in prime position for Stealth to strike it in. Stealth converted, winning the series 2-1 with the pivotal shot. Stealth will visit the Todavía Stills' Sierra in the second round.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Quincy v. Puff III. A minor rivalry series is set for 10-ball with the silver cue before the break. Everton's Puff III began with a four-ball run, but she scratched on her next turn in game 1, and the Knights' Quincy deftly touched a four-ball run-out for the win. Quincy is ahead 1-0 in the series. The Knights' Quincy turned the offense on high with a three-ball run early and a four-ball run-out at the end. He took his chances with thin cuts on the 8 to the top side and 10 to the bottom left, but it paid off as he clinched the series at 2-0 over the Eagles' Puff III. Quincy didn't enjoy much luck in game 3, as Puff III used a three-ball run and then a huge seven-ball run-out to claim the win, avoiding the sweep. Quincy's 2-1 series win carries him to a second round series versus Steven of the Atlantic Pirates.

McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Isabella v. Chimpy. A young player meets a tricky foe in 12-ball with the silver cue. Westside's Chimpy struck at the sides fairly quickly in game 1, but he wasn't able to get position for his last ball. Atlantic's Isabella responded with a few positioning shots before taking the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Pirates' Isabella again played well throughout game 2, but she fell victim to a brilliant defensive play by the Rockers' Chimpy near the end. Isabella missed the kick on her last ball, and Chimpy tapped the 2 to the top side for the win, tying the series at 1. Chimpy had a hot start in game 3, putting Isabella into a defensive shape for most of the game. Chimpy eventually broke the defense for the win, taking the series at 2-1 to move into the second round.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Quincy v. Pauline. Sophomores are set to clash in 13-ball with the silver cue. Terrace City's Quincy had no luck for positioning late in game 1, allowing Capital City's Pauline to slowly but surely build her way to a win for the 1-0 series lead. Both players came close at the end of game 2, with the Sharpshooters' Pauline playing strong defense at the bottom left. This defense rattled the Knights' Quincy, who missed the shot when it was open, allowing Pauline to make the last two balls for the win. Pauline secured the series at 2-0. Pauline cracked a five-ball run from the break even as she spotted a ball for Quincy. Pauline went unchallenged at the end, earning a 3-0 series sweep to put herself in round two.

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Gizmo v. Starlight. A pair of aggressive club-mates meet as the silver cue is up for 8-ball. Pacific's Starlight had an early four-ball run in game 1, and she got down to the 8 after Eastside's Gizmo put together a six-ball run, but Starlight missed on the 8. Gizmo cleaned it up, going ahead 1-0 in the series. The Sharks' Gizmo wasn't able to find a wonder run in game 2 after struggling early, while the Volcanoes' Starlight notched a three-ball run-out for the win. The series heads to decisive game, tied at 1. Game 3 saw Starlight struggle with command, but she was let off the hook as Gizmo couldn't string a run together either. Starlight made the last two shots for the win and 2-1 series win, advancing to the second round.

Nestle's Warriors Hall, Central: Dustin v. Leandra. The red cue cycles in again for a 7-ball series. Tysini's Leandra needed just one turn, making the 1 to the bottom side and 6 to the top right on a double pot, then converting a 3-7 combination to the bottom right two shots later for the game 1 win to take a 1-0 series lead over Central's Dustin. The Hummingbirds' Leandra scratched on the game 2 break, allowing the Warriors' Dustin to post a three-ball run. Leandra then fired back on a four-ball run-out for the win, sealing the series at 2-0 with the dominant stretch. Dustin finally enjoyed possession in game 3, making a five-ball run, but he scratched on the 7. Leandra took it from ball-in-hand, sweeping the series 3-0 as she flies to the second round.

AT&T Hall, Oceanside: Josie v. Hughbert. Outcast club-mates clash in another 7-ball series, this one with the blue cue. Oceanside's Josie posted a three-ball run before a scratch, then watched Infinity's Hughbert make a three-ball run while narrowly missing the 7. Josie picked up the 7 for the win, taking a close win for a 1-0 series lead. The Waves' Josie came close in a slower game 2, just missing the 5-7 combination at the bottom side. The Torpedoes' Hughbert deflected his shot off the 5 to bump the 7 down, taking the win and tying the series at 1. Hughbert never let Josie see the table in game 3, making a pair on the break and running the table from there for the win and 2-1 series win. Hughbert will travel to Atlantic to meet the Pirates' Jason N. in round two.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Goldy v. Shawn. Captains do battle with the red cue in a 9-ball series. Everton's Goldy enjoyed a majority share of possession in game 1 while Midland's Shawn struggled to find his shot. Goldy finished the win on a four-ball run-out, pulling ahead 1-0 in the series with confidence. The Eagles' Goldy didn't dominate possession in game 2, opting for shorter and choppier turns. The Predators' Shawn was struggling again until a lucky bounce drained the 8 at the bottom side. He made the 9 at the top side and snagged the win, tying the series at 1. Shawn left the 9 near the bottom left on the break of game 3, leading to both players taking swipes in that direction. The game made it to full-length, with Shawn finishing what he started on a three-ball run-out for the win and 2-1 series win. Shawn is off to the second round.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Lorde v. Americus. The red cue stays on for this set of 7-ball games. Capital City's Lorde made a ball on the break and another one in the late-game, but she missed the 7 at the bottom right, and Midland's Americus came up clutch to win game 1 for the 1-0 series lead. The Sharpshooters' Lorde had two chances on the 7 late in game 2 after making a three-ball run, but both went to the wayside. The Predators' Americus eventually poked it down for the win, securing the series at 2-0 in her favor. Americus played brilliantly in game 3, making a four-ball run before playing just enough defense to catch Lorde on missed contact. Americus wrapped it up with a three-ball run-out for the 3-0 series sweep that puts her in the second round.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Caitlin v. Puff I. Representatives of the biggest cities meet in Accuracy with the silver cue. Southridge's Caitlin led for most of game 1, but a couple of late misses pushed the game to overtime. Caitlin tried to soft-break in overtime, but Modernistic's Puff I blasted the cluster and got the ball she needed for the 3-4 win and 1-0 series lead. The Defenders' Caitlin held on for a bit in game 2 before completely unraveling at the end. The last ball gave the Union's Puff I some trouble as she only won 3-6, but that still worked to clinch the series at 2-0. Game 3 was a complete turnaround for both players, who stayed perfect until Caitlin missed on the second-to-last ball. Puff I won the game 0-1 and took the series in a 3-0 sweep to get to the second round.

Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Dusty v. Sparkles. An all-Pilots series is today's finale, playing 7-ball with the blue cue. Neither player really did well in game 1, although Sparkles looked better at first. It didn't matter when Dusty made the last two balls to claim the win and 1-0 lead in the series. Sparkles again had a little more offense in game 2, and even took a look at the 7 to the top side, but she sent it wide, and Dusty tapped it in for the win. Dusty clinched the series at 2-0. Dusty put the cherry on top of her sweep in game 3, rattling the 7 off the break to the bottom left to knock out Sparkles. Dusty hosts the Viewpoint Sound Meteors' Dani in the second round.

We're back on Labor Day for a new set of games, beginning with...

Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Max v. Celestia. The silver cue gets first dibs today, playing 13-ball. Oceanside's Celestia enjoyed a lead for part of game 1, but Golden's Max rallied for a four-ball run to take the lead. Max converted the 8 on his next turn to take the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Pilots' Max started game 2 with one of each on the break. He took stripes, but the Waves' Celestia made solids work for her with a three-ball run. Celestia stayed patient in the late game, chipping her way to the win to tie the series at 1. Celestia looked for shots in game 3, but it was Max waiting to capitalize on her errors, which proved to be a successful strategy. When Celestia made illegal contact, Max ripped a five-ball run-out to win the series 2-1, putting him in the second round.

AT&T Hall, Oceanside: Jason V. v. Twinkie I. Coastal rivals go to battle in 12-ball with the red cue. Oceanside's Jason V. managed to get great positioning in game 1, but he didn't have to win the game, as Pacific's Twinkie I knocked in his last ball instead to give away the win. Jason V. leads the series 1-0. The Waves' Jason V. gave away a wild-card ball on the break in game 2. He would make a three-ball run later, but Twinkie I stormed back on a four-ball run, pulling ahead and then burying her last ball to get the win which tied the series at 1. Twinkie I claimed stripes on the break in game 1 with a three-ball run, but Jason V. managed a pair of three-ball runs to take the win and 2-1 series win with great positioning. Jason V. is off to the second round.

HP Field Events Center, Midland: Fuchsia v. Nicole. The red cue stays on for this 7-ball series. Lighton's Nicole made a somewhat lucky five-ball run early in game 1, and then mopped up the 7 when Midland's Fuchsia missed it from short range. Nicole holds a 1-0 series lead. The Prestige's Nicole again needed only two turns in game 2, capitalizing on the Predators' Fuchsia rattling the 1 out of the bottom right. Nicole made seven straight shots on that second turn for the win, securing the series at 2-0 in the process. Offense was a little slower in game 3, until Nicole made a four-ball run and narrowly missed the 7. Fuchsia gladly tapped it in for the win, leaving Nicole to head to the second round on a 2-1 series win.

Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Rosemary v. Hannah. The blue cue gets a turn now, playing 10-ball. Both players had their moments in game 1, but it ended up being a very choppy battle, with Queens' Hannah taking the win with a late pair to go up 1-0 in the series over Commerce's Rosemary. The Flames' Hannah failed to convert a tough 2-7-10 combination in game 2, scratching on the play in a pivotal moment. Needing a win, the Tradewinds' Rosemary took the 2-10 combination to the bottom right from the ball-in-hand play, tying the series at 1. A couple of mistakes from Rosemary cost her game 3, most notably the missed contact attempt on the 9. Hannah cleaned up the last two shots for the win and a 2-1 series win. Hannah will advance to round two.

Intel Center, Diamond: Pedey v. Bryant. The silver cue is back in action for Accuracy. Diamond's Pedey held his form a little longer than Maplewood's Bryant in game 1, good enough for Pedey to take the sloppy win 3-5 for a 1-0 series lead. The Lumberjacks' Bryant did a great job of turning his play around in game 2, missing just once while the Gems' Pedey played a similar style after making a ball on the break. Bryant held on for the 1-3 win, evening the series at 1 game apiece. Pedey fell behind early in game 3, and then couldn't keep pace at the end either, as Bryant scraped by with a 4-5 win to nab the series at 2-1. Bryant will head to the second round.

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Graham v. Hershey. The final player's season debut is here in 9-ball with the blue cue. Neither player got much control on offense in game 1, until Stonebridge's Hershey cranked a 4-9 combination to the top left to take a 1-0 series lead over Eastside's Graham. Game 2 went much the same with a balance between the club-mates. Each player made a three-ball run, but the Sharks' Graham was directly after the Wolves' Hershey in that regard, as Graham closed the game on the heater. Graham tied the series at 1 with his win. Game 3 went in favor of Graham, as Hershey missed a long shot on the 9 and Graham slammed it home on the next turn. Graham also won the series 2-1, punching a ticket into the second round.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: Chicky Phil v. Cubby. A battle in 10-ball will be conducted with the red cue. Eastside's Cubby had better form in game 1, but he missed the 10 twice, and Web City's Chicky Phil gladly cleaned it up the second time to snag the win. Chicky Phil leads the series 1-0. Game 2 also started a bit slowly, but the Spiders' Chicky Phil put an end to that by mowing down a six-ball run-out for the win, clinching the series at 2-0 over the Sharks' Cubby. In game 3, Cubby battled through some early scratches and Chicky Phil's strong offense, replying on a three-ball run-out at the end to avoid the sweep. Chicky Phil settled for a confident 2-1 series win to get to the second round.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Missy v. Twinkie I. The blue cue takes 15-ball for the visitor's second series of the day. Pacific's Twinkie I blasted a seven-ball run early in game 1 and continued to control the pace of play until Capital City's Missy struck a five-ball run-out for the win at the end. Missy leads the series 1-0. The Sharpshooters' Missy continued to struggle early in game 2, but managed to keep things fairly even later on. The Volcanoes' Twinkie I, riding a little momentum, would pick up the 15 at the top right to win the choppy game, tying the series at 1. Game 3 saw Missy find her full offensive potential, rallying on a four-ball run-out at the end to fend off Twinkie I. Missy won the series 2-1 to move into the second round.

T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Strawberry v. Hoppy. The red cue is on again for this 12-ball series. Both players made some quick strikes before a battle for positioning. Eventually, Archtown's Hoppy broke loose for a three-ball run-out, besting Victoria's Strawberry as Hoppy grabs the 1-0 series lead. The Arrows' Hoppy liked the look of solids too much in game 2, giving away a pair of wild-card balls and a foul that allowed the Spurs' Strawberry to carve her up. Strawberry's two-turn win retied the series at 1. In game 3, Strawberry gave up a wild-card ball on the break, but Hoppy gave it back with the first of her two scratches. The game remained close, but Strawberry made shots to both left corners to pick up the win and 2-1 series win, moving to round two.

Ford Forum, Pronger: Potter v. Caitlin. Back in 15-ball, the blue cue is ready to go between these inconsistent players. Pronger's Potter easily paced the offense in game 1, including a five-ball run near the end, but he left the door open and Southridge's Caitlin potted the last two balls for the win. Caitlin owns a 1-0 lead in the series. The Tridents' Potter made sure two games wouldn't get away, pulling in a four-ball run and then adding a couple of other pairs to overwhelm the Defenders' Caitlin. Potter banked the 14 to the bottom side and the 15 to the top right to get the win, tying the series at 1. Game 3 followed suit, with pairs of shots the most common offense. Caitlin did muster a late three-ball run, but Potter drained the last two shots again for the win and 2-1 series win to propel him into the second round.

HP Field Events Center, Midland: Americus v. Sugar. The silver cue rotates into action for this 9-ball series. Both players elected for short bursts of offense in game 1, with Midland's Americus falling short by missing the 7. Swordpoint's Sugar then made it and an 8-9 combination to the top right for the win and 1-0 series lead. Game 2 saw both players struggle to find their offense and convert shots. The Predators' Americus ultimately picked up an unsatisfying win over the Blades' Sugar, tying the series at 1. The struggles persisted in game 3 again until Sugar rallied on a three-ball run-out at the end, pushing her over the top for a 2-1 series win. Sugar is set to face the Victoria Spurs' Mitchell on the road in the second round.

Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Rosemary v. Ice Cream. The host plays her second series today in 15-ball with the red cue. Commerce's Rosemary didn't have the best game 1, ceding a lot of possession to Boston's Ice Cream, but Rosemary made the last two balls for the win. Rosemary leads the series 1-0. The Tradewinds' Rosemary improved her offense in all stages of game 2, but ironically got a worse result to show for it. The Swifts' Ice Cream was stronger at the end to make a pair of shots after Rosemary's scratch, tying the series at 1 with this win. Game 3 could have gone either way, but Ice Cream took herself out of the hunt after missing contact with the 14 on a kick. Rosemary made the last two shots for the win and 2-1 series win. Rosemary will host the Swordpoint Blades' Dreamy in the second round.

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Hoot v. Snuggle. A Coastal derby is set for 12-ball with the silver cue. Oceanside's Snuggle had a four-ball run on his first turn in game 1 and still needed Viewpoint Sound's Hoot to give up a late wild-card ball. Snuggle did get a surprisingly tight win for a 1-0 series lead. The Waves' Snuggle made one of each on the game 2 break, rallying for a four-ball run on stripes. The Meteors' Hoot answered with a three-ball run, but Snuggle's better positioning gave him the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Hoot wouldn't fall to the sweep in game 3, battling with good positioning and solid defense to defeat Snuggle once. Snuggle settled for a 2-1 series win, which puts him through to round two.

Intel Center, Diamond: Pedey v. Klaus. The final series of the day is an Eastern Hills 12-ball derby with the red cue. Atlantic's Klaus made an early attack and quickly got down to his last ball in game 1, but after a four-ball run, Diamond's Pedey remained patient. Pedey opted to set up his last two shots, and he made them just in time to beat Klaus for the 1-0 series lead. The Gems' Pedey had another good start in game 2, but it wasn't enough. The Pirates' Klaus made a couple of errors but ultimately retained good positioning and executed his shots faster for the win to tie the series at 1. Klaus had all the makings of a comeback win in game 3, but he missed his last ball and Pedey went on a three-ball run-out to claim the series at 2-1. Pedey will advance to the second round.

Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Valencia v. Chicky Phil. The red cue is in line for 7-ball as the host makes her season debut. Web City's Chicky Phil took a shaky game 1 as neither player really had a good grip on the offense. A few bad attempts by Golden's Valencia on the 6 ultimately allowed Chicky Phil to pull ahead 1-0 in the series. The Spiders' Chicky Phil took a stronger grip on game 2 with a four-ball run, but he missed a straight shot on the 7, and the Pilots' Valencia tapped it to the bottom right to poach the win. The series is tied at 1. Valencia and Chicky Phil both ended their first turns with scratches, which allowed Valencia to make the last pair of balls from ball-in-hand for the win. Valencia won the series 2-1 to earn a spot in the second round.

Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Gradley v. Rudolph. A veteran and a strong sophomore play in Accuracy with the red cue. Boston's Gradley made a pair on the break and played excellently in game 1, giving Harrison's Rudolph no margin for error. Rudolph couldn't match Gradley's play, as the host won 1-3 for a 1-0 series lead. The Swifts' Gradley was strong again in game 2, getting a couple of lucky bounces to again best the Specters' Rudolph, this time by a 1-2 score. The win clinched the series at 2-0 for Gradley. Rudolph finally got the better of Gradley in game 3, playing an even game until Gradley missed on the second-to-last ball. Rudolph won the game 1-2, but Gradley claimed the series at 2-1 to get to the second round.

Gillette Center, Swordpoint: Dreamy v. Spirit. Two talented veterans clash in 9-ball with the blue cue. Swordpoint's Dreamy started game 1 on a three-ball run and added a pair of shots after forcing Lighton's Spirit into a scratch. Dreamy ended on a 4-9 combination to the bottom right for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Dreamy had a three-ball run in the middle of game 2, but a more consistent and present offense from the Prestige's Spirit was enough for her to win. Spirit set up a decisive game by tying the series at 1. Spirit then dominated in game 3, making a four-ball run and a three-ball run on her first two turns. Dreamy was rattled and missed the 9, allowing Spirit to send it to the top left to win the series 2-1. Spirit is off to round two after that comeback.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: Ted v. Jasmine. The blue cue stays up for 15-ball. Web City's Ted missed contact on the 4 in game 1, a seemingly innocent play that wound up being more. Freedom's Jasmine used ball-in-hand to take the 4 to the top side, then put the 5 there as well with the deflection sending the 15 to the top right for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Cascades' Jasmine took a couple of potshot looks at combinations on the 15, but defeated the Spiders' Ted after a full rack by potting a four-ball run-out instead. Jasmine clinched the series at 2-0 with the win. Game 3 saw streaky play, as both players had a pair of three-plus-ball runs. Jasmine's latter of the two was the best timed, winning the game on a three-ball run-out to earn a 3-0 series sweep, propelling her to the second round.

McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Steven v. Spot. An Eastern Hills rivalry series is in 12-ball, also using the blue cue. Pronger's Spot had a good start in game 1, but Atlantic's Steven held defense at the top left. Spot gave away a wild-card ball trying to power through, and Steven made his final two shots after that for the win and 1-0 lead in the series. The Pirates' Steven tried that defensive strategy again in game 2, but with more balls to go, the Tridents' Spot had just enough time to poke down his final ball at the top right to tie the series at 1. Spot surged early in game 3, then ceded ground to Steven on his three-ball run. At the end, Spot's better positioning helped him take the win by a ball over Steven for the 2-1 series win. Spot advances to the second round.

Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Strut v. Crystal. A pair of veterans give the silver cue its first appearance today in 10-ball. Golden's Strut had a majority of the possession in game 1, but he was unable to strike the 10 to the bottom right. Queens' Crystal used a more steady shot to poke it home, taking the win and 1-0 series lead. After the Pilots' Strut couldn't contact the 1 in game 2, the Flames' Crystal made a bold move. She potted the 1 and 2 to the sides on consecutive shots, then lightly deflected the cue off the 3 to bump the 10 to the bottom side as called for the win. Crystal secured the series at 2-0 with the big play. Crystal didn't have much left for game 3, eventually allowing Strut a sloppy win with his three-ball run-out. Crystal settled for a 2-1 series win to punch her ticket to the second round.

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Princess v. Bright. After the break, the red cue is back for 8-ball. Viewpoint Sound's Princess made three balls on the break and took solids. She later added a four-ball run and finished off the win after Pearl's Bright missed contact. Princess' dominant win gives her a 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Bright struck first in game 2, but he missed the 7 late in the game after the Meteors' Princess posted a three-ball run to get on the 8. Princess gladly took the 8 at the top left on the next turn to seal the series at 2-0. Bright wouldn't fall to a sweep in game 3, playing solidly while Princess kept things close. Bright did pick up the win, so Princess will take a 2-1 series win to the second round, where she hosts the Lighton Prestige's Nicole.

Nissan Hall, Infinity: Shelley v. Rosalina. More red cue 8-ball awaits in this series between heady players. Infinity's Shelley got nothing on the break, but Whitewater's Rosalina stormed ahead with a five-ball run. After some patient play, Rosalina added a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Shores' Rosalina mustered a three-ball run in game 2, but couldn't break away from a persistent attack from the Torpedoes' Shelley. It benefited Shelley in the end as she nabbed the win to tie the series at 1. Shelley rattled off a seven-ball run in the middle of game 3, but she made illegal contact on her attempt at the 8, allowing Rosalina to wipe up a three-ball run-out for the win. Rosalina narrowly took the series 2-1, and will visit a club-mate in the North Modernistic Nighthawks' Luigi in round two.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Misty v. Twilight. A classic captains' battle in 15-ball is set as today's marquee match. Central's Twilight used a six-ball run to gain majority possession, and then added a three-ball run-out to counter a four-ball run from Westside's Misty. Twilight's strong and confident finish put her ahead 1-0 in the series. The Warriors' Twilight again enjoyed the bulk of possession in game 2 while the Rockers' Misty struggled to find legal contact. Twilight wasted it when she mis-positioned herself on the 14, allowing Misty to make the last two balls for the win. This tied the series at 1. Misty's luck ran out in game 3, as her attempt for contact on the 4 illegally struck and potted the 15, gifting the win and 2-1 series win to Twilight in the process. Twilight will visit Stephanie of the Southridge Defenders in the second round after this crowd-silencing finish.

Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Patches v. Sleepy B. The blue cue cycles in for this Rotation series. Archtown's Sleepy B. got a favorable decision early in game 1 to keep things close, but Boston's Patches pulled away on a four-ball run-out, using a decoy combination attempt as she kicked in the 11 to secure the 8-2 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Arrows' Sleepy B. avoided controversy in game 2, simply outplaying the Swifts' Patches with a steady offense in an 8-4 win that tied the series at 1 all. Patches put herself on the verge of victory with a four-ball run that saw her double-pot the 9 to the bottom left and the 12 to the top side on a kick. Sleepy B. refused to fall, rallying for a five-ball run-out that gave her the 8-7 win and 2-1 series win. Sleepy B.'s heroic comeback puts her into the second round.

Google Hall, Modernistic: Puff I v. Cobalt. The silver cue will play this series of 10-ball. Game 1 started shaky before Modernistic's Puff I flexed her control at the end with a five-ball run-out to take the 1-0 series lead over Stonebridge's Cobalt. Game 2 went much the same, expect it was the Wolves' Cobalt turning it on late with a four-ball run that ended with a miss on the 10 after the Union's Puff I ceded possession when Cobalt potted the 9 illegally. Puff I then converted the 10 on her turn to get the win, securing the series at 2-0 with the heady decision earlier. Game 3 went a bit more smoothly, with Cobalt's late miss on the 10 setting Puff I up for a straight shot to earn the sweep. A 3-0 series win sends Puff I to the second round, where she'll host the Boston Swifts' Sweetheart.

IBM Cathedral, North Modernistic: Peach v. Snowball. A captains' battle is set for Accuracy with the silver cue. North Modernistic's Peach hit the ground running while Swordpoint's Snowball stumbled early. Peach would miss on the last ball but still won 1-3 to take the early 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Snowball made a much better effort to hold her ground, keeping things even until the Nighthawks' Peach fell off the pace late in game 2. Snowball also had a late miss, but her 2-3 win was enough to tie the series at 1. Peach took an early miss in game 3 and added another in the middle of the game, just enough of a cushion for Snowball to win the game 1-2. This gave Snowball a 2-1 series win and a pass to the second round.

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Hoot v. Marsell. The silver cue stays up for this 13-ball battle. Whitewater's Marsell did a good job to keep up despite awful positioning, but Viewpoint Sound's Hoot was able to secure the game 1 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Shores' Marsell had his chances in game 2, holding a lead for most of the game, but he flubbed a pair of tries on the 8. The Meteors' Hoot had kept it close enough to strike, finishing with a pair of shots for the win to seal the series at 2-0. In game 3, Marsell again took the lead, and this time he did just enough to get the win after Hoot failed to make a defensive play. Hoot still won the series 2-1, and he will play in the second round.

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Nibbles v. Melissa. The venue doubleheader completes the day with 9-ball and the red cue. Game 1 was a back-and-forth battle between the players, with Terrace City's Melissa eventually striking the decisive shot to take a 1-0 series lead over Viewpoint Sound's Nibbles. The Meteors' Nibbles kept it interesting, making a pair of shots at the end of a much faster game 2 to tie the series at 1 with the Knights' Melissa. In game 3, Nibbles rattled off an eight-ball run from the break, but he missed the 9 twice, once at tap-in range. Melissa eventually converted it, a stolen win but enough for a 2-1 series win to put her in the second round.
