Tournament X - First Round Day 7

After an absolutely chaotic day yesterday, the league will continue on with all five cues getting an appearance. To begin...

Ford Forum, Pronger: Prism v. Avril. A pair of new Pronger Tridents duel in 7-ball with the green cue. In game 1, Avril used a three-ball run-out to get the win after Prism's offense proved inconsistent. Avril leads the series 1-0. Avril didn't play as well in game 2, keeping her offense pretty loose. Prism took advantage at the end for a 6-7 combination to the top right for the win to tie the series at 1. Game 3 was a close one on both sides, but Avril had the pair at the end for the win and 2-1 series win to put her in the second round.

Nissan Hall, Infinity: Fluffina v. Bianca. The red cue comes into action for this Rotation series. Southridge's Bianca had a good start to game 1 and didn't cool much later. Infinity's Fluffina didn't provide much offense, and Bianca took the 8-3 win for the 1-0 series lead. Game 2 saw the Defenders' Bianca struggle with errors a bit more. The Torpedoes' Fluffina had a choppy offense, but it worked in her 8-5 win to tie the series at 1. Fluffina got the edge again early in game 3, and she made it stand as an 8-3 win this time, defeating Bianca 2-1 in the series. Fluffina will play in the second round.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Wario v. Blaze. The blue cue is up for 12-ball. Southridge's Wario overfilled the bottom left on the break, but surrendered both as wild-card balls. Infinity's Blaze held the huge advantage throughout game 1 but couldn't finish it off before Wario cleared his solids for the win and 1-0 series lead. Game 2 had a different tactic from the Torpedoes' Blaze, who locked up the top left with defense until a late scratch. The Defenders' Wario ceded the wild-card ball but still had plenty of time to finish with his last ball to clinch the series at 2-0. Blaze made a bold play to give a hot Wario a wild-card ball late in game 3, but it paid off, opening space for Blaze's four-ball run-out. Wario settled for a 2-1 series win to move into round two.

AT&T Hall, Oceanside: Josie v. Spice. The 100th series of the first round is in 10-ball with the purple cue. Victoria's Spice unraveled an epic nine-ball run to begin game 1, but she needed three tries before she could kick the 10 into the top left. Oceanside's Josie missed the 10 twice to help Spice pull ahead 1-0 in the series. The Waves' Josie roared back late in game 2, potting six balls over her last two turns as the Spurs' Spice saw her offense sputter. Josie's win tied the series at 1. Josie provided a clever shot for the win in game 3, posting a 5-10 combination through traffic to the bottom left to stun Spice. Josie won the series 2-1 and advanced to the second round.

Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Ms. Kitty v. Strawberry. The red cue draws back in for 7-ball. Victoria's Strawberry had a little more of the offense in game 1, but her miss on the 7 allowed Pacific's Ms. Kitty to cut it to the bottom right for the win. Ms. Kitty is ahead 1-0 in the series. The Volcanoes' Ms. Kitty had a convincing finish with a three-ball run-out in game 2, securing the series at 2-0 over the Spurs' Strawberry. Ms. Kitty eased up a bit in game 3, allowing Strawberry to work a nice plan on offense. Strawberry would win with a late pair, leaving Ms. Kitty with a 2-1 series win that sets her up to host Tysini Hummingbirds sophomore Sarah in the second round.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: Waluigi v. Jane. The silver cue's lone appearance today is in 9-ball. Stonebridge's Jane saw her four-ball run in game 1 end with an unfortunate scratch. Web City's Waluigi made no mistake to pot the final pair for a win and 1-0 series lead. The Spiders' Waluigi had one moment of the joy as the 3 followed the 9 into the top left before the cue dropped at the bottom right to gift the win to the Wolves' Jane on the break. This tied the series at 1. Jane had momentum with a four-ball run before she missed on the 8. Waluigi took the final pair of shots for the win and 2-1 series win that allows him to host again in the second round.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Jennifer v. Molly. In 15-ball, the red cue gets a look after the lunch break. Terrace City's Jennifer worked a four-ball run at one point in game 1, but it took Southern's Molly slipping up late for Jennifer to get the win, which put her ahead 1-0 in the series. Game 2 was a bit slower on both sides, and scratches slowed the players more near the end. The Knights' Jennifer had the worst one, as it set up the Monarchs' Molly to pot the last pair for the win, which in turn tied the series at 1. A balanced game 3 tipped in favor of Jennifer as her shot on the 11 set her up for a three-ball run-out. Jennifer beat Molly 2-1 in the series to get into the second round.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: Waluigi v. Goatee. The host's second series today is in 8-ball with the blue cue. Westside's Goatee had a little trouble early in game 1, but recovered to find a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead over a weak effort from Web City's Waluigi. Game 2 saw an improvement for the Spiders' Waluigi, as he put up a five-ball run. It ended in disaster as he deflected the 8 prematurely into the bottom side, gifting the Rockers' Goatee the win to seal the series in her favor at 2-0. Goatee completed the sweep with a solid game 3 performance, staying a step ahead of Waluigi and ending with the 8 banked to the bottom side. Goatee's 3-0 series win puts her in the second round.

Intel Center, Diamond: Autumn v. Leonette. The second half of the day begins with the red cue in 13-ball. Diamond's Autumn found a slight edge in game 1 just after Pacific's Leonette got rid of her defense at the top left. Autumn put the 8 in the same spot for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Gems' Autumn had a four-ball run at the start of game 2, but she couldn't finish off the effort as the 8 eluded her at the top left. The Volcanoes' Leonette had a scratch that ended up working in her favor, allowing her to get the final pair of shots for the win to tie the series at 1 game apiece. Leonette nearly made the 8 on the break in game 3, but it would hang at the bottom right and block the pocket. Leonette eventually potted it illegally, and Autumn took the win for a 2-1 series win to put her in round two.

Nestle's Warriors Hall, Central: Graham v. Rosemary. The blue cue is back for 10-ball. Central's Graham took his time on offense, letting Commerce's Rosemary get comfortable in game 1. Graham then found a four-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Tradewinds' Rosemary got a three-ball run in the middle of game 2, but the Warriors' Graham answered right back on a three-ball run-out. Graham's counterattack clinched the series in his favor at 2-0. Game 3 saw Graham slow down a bit early on, giving Rosemary more room to work with. Rosemary tried to play well, but it was Graham who found the win in the end, sweeping the series 3-0 to earn his place in the second round.

T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Yekaterina v. Leonette. Strong opponents battle in 7-ball with the red cue. Victoria's Yekaterina made a pair on the break in game 1, but Pacific's Leonette delivered the winning shot with a cut on the 7 to the bottom left. Leonette holds a 1-0 series lead. The Spurs' Yekaterina put on a four-ball run in the middle of game 2, but she came up short overall. The Volcanoes' Leonette converted the final pair for the win, clinching the series at 2-0. Leonette remained strong in game 3, and Yekaterina wasn't good enough at the end with her miss on the 6. Leonette scooped up a couple shots for the win, the 3-0 series sweep, and the trip to the second round.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Wings v. Frosty. Coastal rivals use the red cue for 15-ball. Pearl's Wings had little bits of offense in contrast to a seven-ball run by Viewpoint Sound's Frosty. Near the end, Wings scratched, and Frosty used the ball-in-hand on the 15 to get the win for a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 saw runs come even more into fashion. The Surfers' Wings launched a five-ball run before his miss on the 7, followed by an eight-ball run-out from the Meteors' Frosty. The emphatic and lengthy stretch secured the series in Frosty's favor at 2-0. Frosty cooled way off in game 3, a much slower battle between the players that Wings took narrowly at the end. Frosty settled for a 2-1 series lead to get into the second round.

Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Taylor S. v. Hoot. The green cue draws in for 12-ball. Commerce's Taylor S. had a decent start, but Viewpoint Sound's Hoot rattled off a big five-ball run in game 1. Hoot would scratch on his last ball, allowing Taylor S. to get close with a three-ball run, but she faltered and Hoot won for the 1-0 series lead. The Meteors' Hoot surrendered a wild-card ball on the game 2 break, providing the Tradewinds' Taylor S. with enough flexibility to get the win. This tied the series at 1. Taylor S. played a balanced game 3, playing just enough defense at the bottom right to block Hoot. Taylor S. then made a pair for the win to take the series 2-1, pushing herself into the second round.

Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Twinkie III v. Charli. We'll get some Accuracy with the blue cue here. Whitewater's Twinkie III had a lead for most of game 1, but Tysini's Charli dragged her down into a tie at the end of regulation. A few shots into overtime, Charli claimed the 2-3 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Hummingbirds' Charli had a better performance in game 2, forcing the Shores' Twinkie III into early troubles. Charli was a little sloppy in locking in the win, but she eventually got it by a 2-5 margin to seal the series at 2-0. Game 3 was an absolute mess, as both players blew small leads. Twinkie III refused to be swept, forcing overtime and getting the 5-6 win there. Charli settled for a 2-1 series win to advance to the second round.

Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Shiny v. Kitty. Rising stars meet in 8-ball with the green cue. Midland's Kitty made a five-ball run in game 1, and Lighton's Shiny didn't even get five total balls potted. Kitty had an easy route to the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Predators' Kitty backed down a bit in a close game 2, but the Prestige's Shiny failed to solve her positioning late. Kitty had enough time to earn the win, sealing the series at 2-0. Shiny stole the spotlight in game 3 with a six-ball run, and Kitty was too out of sorts to reply to that. Shiny would get the win, while Kitty advanced to the second round on a 2-1 series win.

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Taylor M. v. Leonardo. We end the day with an Eastern Hills Derby in 8-ball with the blue cue. Eastside's Taylor M. led for virtually all of game 1, but wasted it as Diamond's Leonardo had the time for a three-ball run-out at the end to pull ahead 1-0 in the series. A little angry, the Sharks' Taylor M. blasted an eight-ball run-out in game 2, giving the Gems' Leonardo no chance for a response. Taylor M.'s massive play tied the series at 1. Both players stayed even for much of game 3, but a pair of missed contacts, one on each side, allowed Leonardo to put the 8 in the bottom side. Leonardo advanced to the second round with a 2-1 series win.

Tournament X - First Round Day 6

We're ready to go with another day of games without the purple cue. First up...

Nestle's Warriors Hall, Central: Dustin v. Paps. The green cue will get the first look today in 15-ball. Central's Dustin had a good start to game 1, but a three-ball run made Capital City's Paps look threatening at the end. Paps missed the 15, and Dustin cut it to the bottom right for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Warriors' Dustin had a four-ball run before a late scratch in game 2. The Sharpshooters' Paps almost got the win but left the 15 short at the bottom left, where Dustin knocked it down to clinch the series at 2-0. Dustin had another good showing in game 3, but it went to waste when he scratched as he made the 15 to gift a win to Paps. Dustin won the series 2-1 and will play in the second round.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Cleo v. Angelica. Staying in the Northeast, the green cue plays 13-ball. A four-ball run early in game 1 made Lighton's Angelica look dangerous, but she failed to attack the right side of the table. Everton's Cleo got positioning and made a late pair for the win to take the 1-0 series lead. Game 2 was close on both sides. The Eagles' Cleo lagged behind a bit and failed to make her last ball on a double-kiss play to the bottom right. This allowed the Prestige's Angelica to convert the 8 at the bottom left after a good performance to tie the series at 1. Cleo didn't get discouraged, and benefited when Angelica made one of each on the game 3 break. Positioning was a little easier for Cleo, which in turn gave her enough of an edge for the win and 2-1 series win. Cleo will host again in the second round.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: Nibbles v. Chimpy. The green cue stays up for 10-ball. Web City's Nibbles had most of the offense in game 1, including an impressive six-ball run. Westside's Chimpy had a chance to win that went to waste, and Nibbles converted to go up 1-0 in the series. The Spiders' Nibbles had a four-ball run in game 2 as well, but the Rockers' Chimpy offered more resistance with a three-ball run-out for the win. This tied the series at 1. The offense on both sides fell apart at the end of game 3, until Chimpy recovered to tap the 10 into the bottom left for the win and 2-1 series win over Nibbles. The upset puts Chimpy into round two.

Kraft Forum, Royal: Kayla v. Buddy. The blue cue takes a turn in this Rotation series. Royal's Kayla didn't take the threat from Atlantic's Buddy seriously enough in game 1. A back-and-forth battle saw momentum swing to Buddy with his three-ball run-out at the end for an 8-7 win and 1-0 series lead. The Pirates' Buddy had a five-ball run quite early in game 2, but the Crowns' Kayla shot back with a six-ball run to take the lead. After a scuffle on the 11, Buddy escaped with a three-ball run-out for the 8-6 win to seal the series at 2-0. Game 3 started pretty slowly, but Buddy looked to be in good shape for awhile. Kayla then surged on a six-ball run-out for the 8-6 win to avoid the sweep as Buddy took a 2-1 series win to the second round.

Apple Center, Todavía: Easter v. Chris. A captains' battle in 10-ball goes with the blue cue. Capital City's Chris emerged from a tight game 1 with a three-ball run-out to answer a previous three-ball run by Todavía's Easter. Chris leads the series 1-0. The Sharpshooters' Chris missed contact on the 2 in game 2, and that proved costly to him, as the Stills' Easter used the ball-in-hand to convert a 2-10 combination to the top left. Easter's easy shot tied the series at 1. Game 3 belonged to Easter, although it was a close battle that tipped to her when Chris missed his cut on the 9. Easter took the series 2-1 and will play in the second round.

Sony Center, Queens: Briana v. Molly. More 10-ball is on the way, this time with the red cue. Queens' Briana had a stretch of five balls over two turns, but it ended as she scratched on the 9. That allowed Southern's Molly to take game 1 from ball-in-hand for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Monarchs' Molly scooped up another win despite a lack of offense, as the Flames' Briana botched game 2 by missing twice on the 10. Molly's good fortune clinched the series for her at 2-0. Game 3 saw Briana work an early three-ball run and then fade out on offense. Molly answered at the end on a three-ball run-out to complete the 3-0 series sweep.

Microsoft Center, Del Sur: Pounce v. Fluffina. The red cue goes again in 9-ball. Infinity's Fluffina let Southern's Pounce have most of the early offense in game 1. Fluffina then ripped a four-ball run-out for the win to go up 1-0 in the series. The Torpedoes' Fluffina had a positive start to game 2, but it wasn't sustained deep into the battle. The Monarchs' Pounce picked up this win, tying the series at 1 in the process. Game 3 came down to the wire, with Pounce getting a couple of chances for a late run, but Fluffina tapped in the 9 to the top left for the win. Fluffina advanced to the second round on a 2-1 series win.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Jennifer v. Stephanie. The silver cue makes its daily debut in 12-ball between sisters. Terrace City's Jennifer didn't finish well in game 1, giving away a wild-card ball that Southridge's Stephanie quickly gave back. Stephanie still used a three-ball run-out to win, going ahead 1-0 in the series. The Knights' Jennifer had a four-ball run late in game 2 in an attempt at a comeback, but the Defenders' Stephanie held it off for the win as she cut the 6 to the bottom right to seal the series at 2-0. Stephanie was faster from the start of game 3, and Jennifer again had bad positioning that she couldn't overcome. Stephanie's 3-0 series sweep put her into the second round.

T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Spice v. Bright. The second half of the day gets going with the green cue in 13-ball. Victoria's Spice had a good start to game 1, but Pearl's Bright made a strong push with a three-ball run. He missed the 8 at the end, and Spice tapped it down at the bottom left to get the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Spurs' Spice had a much tougher time in game 2, making a pair on the break before going ice cold. The Surfers' Bright worked his way ahead and went unchallenged for the win to tie the series at 1. Spice went on a deep four-ball run in game 3, getting onto but missing the 8. Bright was very happy to make the 8 to the top side for the win, moving on to visit Everton Eagles veteran Cleo in the second round after a 2-1 series win.

Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Patches v. Crystal. Southeastern captains do battle in 10-ball with the red cue. Boston's Patches had a six-ball run aided by Queens' Crystal deferring possession after an illegal shot. Patches would later scratch, and Crystal used a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Flames' Crystal had a four-ball run to start game 2, which the Swifts' Patches answered with a three-ball run before she missed contact. Crystal then won with a three-ball run-out to clinch the series at 2-0. Crystal had a good portion of offense again in game 3, but it went to waste when she missed the 10. Patches put it away for her lone win in Crystal's 2-1 series win, which sees the visitor get to the second round.

Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Twinkie III v. Gradley. Stalwarts of their respective teams meet in Rotation with the blue cue. Boston's Gradley steamrolled through game 1, beating Whitewater's Twinkie III by an 8-2 score. Gradley leads the series 1-0. The Swifts' Gradley put in a similar effort with an early four-ball run in game 2. The Shores' Twinkie III continued to struggle, and Gradley finished off an 8-1 win to secure the series at 2-0. The start of game 3 was a bit more competitive, but Gradley surged to an impressive finish on a six-ball run-out for an 8-2 win again. Gradley easily swept the series 3-0 to move into the second round.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Stephanie v. Ruby. The red cue is back for this 9-ball series. Southridge's Stephanie pieced together a four-ball run in game 1, but couldn't wrangle the 9 at the end. Todavía's Ruby picked it up and took the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Stills' Ruby had some good looks in game 2, but a scratch as she made the 3 ruined her chances of a win. The Defenders' Stephanie took a 4-9 combination to the top side from ball-in-hand to get the win, tying the series at 1. Stephanie played at another level in game 3, working a five-ball run-out to defeat Ruby for a 2-1 comeback win in the series. Stephanie will play on into the second round.

Google Hall, Modernistic: Daisy v. Strut. The blue cue is on for 7-ball here. Modernistic's Daisy had a four-ball run at the start of game 1 and then completely fell apart. Golden's Strut picked up the slack at the end to earn the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Pilots' Strut had a slower start in game 2, allowing the Union's Daisy to put in a little offense. Strut then smashed down a three-ball run-out for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Daisy spoiled Strut's chances of a sweep with a remarkable double-deflection off the 2 and 3 to push the 7 to the bottom right in game 3. Strut settled for a 2-1 series win, setting him up to host North Modernistic Nighthawks newcomer Gizmo in the second round.

Toyota Arena, Freedom: Nikolai v. Solaris. Back in 9-ball, the silver cue's last set of the day is here. Commerce's Solaris had a slight edge on offense with a three-ball run late in game 1, but he missed on the 9, and Freedom's Nikolai put it home for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Tradewinds' Solaris had an even more heartbreaking loss in the game, with his six-ball run ending in a miss on the 9. The Cascades' Nikolai made the long shot to the bottom right for the win, clinching the series at 2-0. Solaris finally finished off a game in the finale, taking his lone win in a 2-1 series win that sees Nikolai into the second round.

Intel Center, Diamond: Shadow v. Angelica. The visitor's second series today is in 8-ball with the red cue. Diamond's Shadow almost had game 1 under control, until Lighton's Angelica rallied with a four-ball run-out for the win, giving her a 1-0 series lead. The Prestige's Angelica held the lead in game 2, but the Gems' Shadow wanted to make a push at the end. Shadow had a four-ball run but couldn't make the 8, and Angelica finished off the game to seal the series at 2-0. Shadow finally got a win in game 3 with a fairly confident attack throughout the game, while Angelica struggled more. Angelica won the series 2-1 to earn a spot in the second round.

Cisco Arena, Tysini: Hughbert v. Citrus. Southwestern rivals close the day in Rotation with the blue cue. Tysini's Hughbert maintained a slight edge over Lighton's Citrus throughout game 1. This resulted in an 8-5 win for Hughbert to give him a 1-0 series lead. The Hummingbirds' Hughbert didn't get a repeat effort in game 2, as the Prestige's Citrus proved stronger this time. Citrus held her lead and finished with an 8-6 win to tie the series at 1. In the decisive game 3, Hughbert exploded for a three-ball run early on and finished off the game as an 8-0 shutout to beat Citrus 2-1 in the series. Hughbert will play in the second round.

One more note on today. Due to real-world events, the Modernistic Union's Sydney C. has been banned from the league indefinitely. This is only the second time the league has had to go to this length with a player. Her replacement will be a Celebrity player, Maggie, effective immediately. The Union will retain Sydney C.'s rights if she is reinstated, but that is unlikely this season.

We're back for another day of pool action, which will not feature the purple cue today. First up...

T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Yekaterina v. Smudge. Big-name Southwestern rivals meet in 13-ball with the silver cue. Victoria's Yekaterina quickly became frustrated in a tough game 1, while Infinity's Smudge put her head down and did what was necessary to win. Smudge leads the series 1-0. The Torpedoes' Smudge suffered an overfill on her first shot in game 2. Smudge struggled to get back on track, while the Spurs' Yekaterina showed improvement and won on a three-ball run-out to tie the series at 1. Game 3 seemed to favor Smudge at first, but she failed to get positioning on her last ball. Yekaterina surged with four balls over two turns for the win and 2-1 series win to put herself in the second round.

Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Patches v. Shelley. The green cue steps in for 7-ball here. Boston's Patches made a ball on the break and added a four-ball run-out after Infinity's Shelley had a short turn at the table. Patches leads the series 1-0. Patches' final pair was enough for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Patches had a good share of offense early in game 3, but Shelley would clean up the 7 to the top left after Patches scratched. Patches settled for a 2-1 series win to move into the second round.

Sony Center, Queens: Crystal v. Sydney C. The silver cue returns for 13-ball. Queens' Crystal made one of each on the game 1 break and chose stripes. She did okay for awhile, but Modernistic's Sydney C. had a much clearer path forward. Sydney C. was unchallenged for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Union's Sydney C. got onto the 8 before a scratch set her back. With defense, the Flames' Crystal held Sydney C. back and rallied to win with four balls over two shots. Crystal's victory tied the series at 1. Positioning rapidly came into focus at the end of game 3, with Sydney C.'s four-ball run and Crystal's failed counterattack defining the result. Sydney C. took the 8 to the top left for the win and 2-1 series win to advance to round two.

Ford Forum, Pronger: Precious v. Celestia. The red cue makes its daily debut in 7-ball. Pronger's Precious had a decent game 1, but a late miss on the 5 set up a three-ball run-out for Oceanside's Celestia. With that final push, Celestia established a 1-0 series lead. The Waves' Celestia dominated the offense in game 2 with a four-ball run to start and a pair later, but she whiffed on the 7. The Tridents' Precious knocked it down to steal the win, tying the series at 1. Celestia had most of the offense early in game 3, but Precious was there to finish it off with a three-ball run-out. Precious took the series 2-1 with luck on her side, which sends her to the second round.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Chimpy v. Dreamy. After the break, the red cue stays in action with Accuracy. Westside's Chimpy scratched on the break and completely fell apart by the end of game 1, making it a very easy time for Swordpoint's Dreamy in the 1-6 win. Dreamy leads the series 1-0. The Rockers' Chimpy again struggled, this time bombing out at the start of game 2. The Blades' Dreamy had no trouble in earning another 1-6 win to seal the series at 2-0. Chimpy finally fought back in game 3, holding steady throughout for the 1-3 win as Dreamy faltered early on. Dreamy still won the series 2-1 and will head to the second round.

Apple Center, Todavía: Ruby v. Maison. The blue cue's lone appearance today is in 13-ball. Todavía's Ruby got going well in game 1, and received a couple of gifts from Eastside's Maison. As the rookie visitor Maison faltered, Ruby got stronger and charged to the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Stills' Ruby started well again in game 2, but she faded this time. The Sharks' Maison attacked the sides first, got onto the 8 with a four-ball run, and then provided a patient finish for the win. Maison tied the series at 1. Maison had a good set-up in game 3, but he executed too slowly and had a brutal miss. Ruby was a little faster and earned the win for a 2-1 series win to advance to the second round.

Sony Center, Queens: Violetta v. Gradley. A Southeastern Derby is set for 10-ball with the green cue. Queens' Violetta started and ended game 1 on three-ball runs, leaving little room for Boston's Gradley to even find offense. Violetta's dominant turn put her up 1-0 in the series. The Swifts' Gradley had an easier time in generating offense in game 2, but he didn't piece together a big run. The Flames' Violetta was able to mop up the 10 to the bottom right on her second try to get the win for a 2-0 series lead. Violetta saw her six-ball run in game 3 end due to a scratch, allowing Gradley to take the final pair of balls from ball-in-hand for the win. Violetta still won the series 2-1 and will host again in the second round.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Stephanie v. Prism. The red cue cycles in for Rotation. Southridge's Stephanie had a dominant win in game 1, posting an 8-0 shutout over Pronger's Prism for the 1-0 series lead. Stephanie also suffered a wrist injury on the last shot, but she'll attempt to play through it. The Defenders' Stephanie kept pace quite well in game 2, starting with a pair on the break. The Tridents' Prism provided a challenge this time, but Stephanie's double-pot of the 12-13 combination at the top left sealed the win at 9-5 and the series at 2-0. Stephanie backed down in game 3, and Prism gladly took up the offense for an 8-4 win. Stephanie moved on to the second round with a 2-1 series win.

Cisco Arena, Tysini: Leandra v. Melissa. The green cue is back for this 12-ball series. Tysini's Leandra yielded two wild-card balls in game 1, and Terrace City's Melissa almost took advantage until she gave one back with a scratch. Leandra's win was far closer than it should have been as the host pulls out to a 1-0 series lead. The Hummingbirds' Leandra again gave away a wild-card ball in game 2, but her positioning this time made that a bad play. The Knights' Melissa wasn't clinical in her response, but she was fast enough to win, which tied the series at 1. Melissa gave away three wild-card balls to Leandra in game 3, but Leandra couldn't get any positive positioning to work with. Melissa narrowly escaped the sketchy situation with a win, leading her to the 2-1 series win to get into round two.

HP Field Events Center, Midland: Kitty v. Cubby. Once again, the silver cue is up for 13-ball. Web City's Cubby had some good defense at the bottom side, but his free chance to make a pair at the end went awry. Midland's Kitty got away with a big gamble to take game 1 for a 1-0 series lead. The Spiders' Cubby again put in a reasonable effort in game 2, keeping things close right up to the end, but his miss on the 8 allowed the Predators' Kitty a tap-in to the bottom right for the win. Kitty clinched the series at 2-0. Kitty completed the sweep in game 3, holding slightly better positioning compared to what Cubby had to work with. Kitty is off to the second round.

Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Acorn v. Misty. Teacher and apprentice clash in 10-ball with the red cue. Westside's Misty had a luck-fueled three-ball run to start game 1, which Lighton's Acorn answered with a four-ball run. Acorn also made a three-ball run-out for the win to take the 1-0 series lead. The Prestige's Acorn was fine until he illegally potted the 7. The Rockers' Misty took possession and hit a 3-5 combination and the 3 to the top left before deflecting off the 4 to put the 10 down at the bottom left. Misty's good play tied the series at 1. Game 3 was as close as any, and it came down to Acorn's positioning attempt on the 10 ending in a scratch. Misty took the free shot for the win, the 2-1 series win and the ticket to the second round.

Ford Forum, Pronger: Avril v. Vladimir. A top-seeded host plays Accuracy with the silver cue. Maplewood's Vladimir had a couple of chances to take a lead, but a scratch and a miss put him behind for good. Pronger's Avril clamped down for a 2-3 win and a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 was also close, as the Lumberjacks' Vladimir ultimately forced overtime with a late miss. Both players missed on their first shots in the extra rack, but Vladimir's scratch two shots later helped the Tridents' Avril take a 3-4 win to seal the series at 2-0. Unwilling to scrap for the sweep, Avril let game 3 slip away from her at the end, as Vladimir picked up a 3-4 win in likely his best game of the series. Avril advances to the second round on a 2-1 series win.

Kraft Forum, Royal: Katelynn v. Slinks. The silver cue gets another look in this 15-ball series. Westside's Slinks went on a menacing eleven-ball run in game 1, but missed the 15 wide of the bottom right. Royal's Katelynn poached a victory with a tap-in for the 1-0 series lead. The Crowns' Katelynn notched some nice shots in game 2, as did the Rockers' Slinks in a fast-paced battle. Katelynn would surge to victory with a four-ball run-out, which clinched the series in her favor at 2-0. Game 3 slowed things down on both sides, especially near the end. Katelynn still got the win, as Slinks' miss on the 15 left it in a favorable spot. Katelynn swept the series 3-0 to earn her spot in the second round.

Cisco Arena, Tysini: Leandra v. Bianca. The host's second series today is in Accuracy with the red cue. Tysini's Leandra brought heat right to the end of game 1 when she scratched on her last shot. Southridge's Bianca matched everything but the mistake, finishing a perfect 0-1 win for the 1-0 series lead. The Defenders' Bianca stayed perfect deep into game 2 as well, with her only miss coming too late to make a difference. The Hummingbirds' Leandra was already in a freefall, and Bianca won 1-4 to seal the series at 2-0. Game 3 was as close as it got in the series, but Bianca continued to be a step ahead for the 2-3 win despite Leandra's good finish. Bianca swept the series rather easily to earn a second round road trip to face the Pearl Surfers' Boots.

Google Hall, Modernistic: Puff I v. Rudolph. The silver cue's last appearance today comes in 9-ball. Modernistic's Puff I made an impressive quick strike on a tough 4-9 combination to the top right to go up 1-0 in the series on Harrison's Rudolph. The Specters' Rudolph had the chance for a lengthy run but missed on the 4 in game 2. The Union's Puff I had the win two shots later, her attempt on the 5 to the bottom side serving as a dummy while the 9 drifted to the bottom left. Puff I secured the series at 2-0 with this win. Puff I made quick work of game 3 as well for the sweep, sending two down on the break and winning with a 3-9 combination to the top side two shots later. Puff I took a 3-0 series win over Rudolph to get herself to the second round.

Ford Forum, Pronger: Prism v. Solaris. Today's finale features the green cue in 15-ball for the host's second series of the day. Pronger's Prism had a productive four-ball run in game 1 before setting up a tight finish. Commerce's Solaris had a bit more late momentum, but he missed the 15 at the bottom left. Prism tapped it down for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Tradewinds' Solaris kept himself in the series with a game 2 win, converting a three-ball run-out after a lengthy battle with the Tridents' Prism. The series is tied at 1 game apiece. Solaris found his edge in a fast game 3, ripping a six-ball run-out to stun Prism in the decisive game. Solaris won the series 2-1 and will play in the second round.

Tournament X - First Round Day 4

The league is back today, beginning with a big series. First up...

Sony Center, Queens: Violetta v. Niki. A top-rated host plays 15-ball with the green cue to kick off the action. Game 1 was the typically choppy style associated with the green cue. Queens' Violetta had some moments, but Commerce's Niki picked up momentum at the end to earn the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Tradewinds' Niki struck on the break in game 2, but scratched on the next shot. The Flames' Violetta took the 2-15 combination to the top left on the ball-in-hand, tying the series at 1 with the quick win. Violetta felt confident in game 3, a dangerous situation for Niki to face. Violetta found a five-ball run and won with an 11-13-15 combination to the top left on the next turn to secure a 2-1 series win with the comeback. Violetta will enjoy the comforts of home in the second round.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Midnight v. Boots. The red cue is next up for an Accuracy series. Westside's Midnight had the lead early on as Pearl's Boots stumbled out of the gate in game 1. Midnight couldn't hang on, falling behind at the end as Boots held on for a 3-4 win to take the 1-0 series lead. The Rockers' Midnight didn't get any better in game 2, falling behind early and never recovering as the Surfers' Boots went on to win 1-4. Boots clinched the series at 2-0. Game 3 was much closer at the end, but Midnight would fall once more. Boots was denied a perfect game, settling for a 1-2 win that made it a 3-0 series sweep to send her to the second round.

Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Juno v. Rocky. A rough captain meets a rookie for 10-ball with the silver cue. Mistakes plagued the middle of game 1, as Stonebridge's Juno illegally potted a ball, only for Oceanside's Rocky to botch his free shot. Juno then made a four-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead after Rocky's mistake. The Waves' Rocky provided a good answer to a three-ball run by the Wolves' Juno in game 2, but Rocky left the 10 standing at the top side. Juno made the tap-in, earning the win and securing the series at 2-0. Juno didn't get many chances in game 3 after leaving the 10 next to the top left. Rocky had a dominant attack despite no defining run in his lone win. Juno took the series 2-1 to get into the second round.

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Toki v. Sage. A venue doubleheader begins with the purple cue in 8-ball here. Eastside's Toki made one of each on the game 1 break and worked a four-ball run with stripes. Victoria's Sage answered back with five balls over two turns to take the lead, but Toki made a three-ball run-out to get the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Sharks' Toki was less fortunate in game 2, as the Spurs' Sage upped the pressure and managed to work her way to victory. Sage was patient but solid in the win, tying the series at 1. Toki had a four-ball run in an attempt to catch up, but Sage was far enough ahead to weather that attack late in game 3. Sage picked up the win and took the series 2-1 to earn her spot in the second round.

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Nightfur v. Lily. Sharks teammates, a captain and a rookie, clash in 8-ball with the green cue to end the doubleheader. A close game 1 finally tipped to Lily at the end, her surge coming on a four-ball run-out to stun Nightfur. Lily leads the series 1-0. Nightfur made a good push on a six-ball run in game 2, but she struggled to get onto the 8. During that struggle, Lily found her shot again and knocked in a four-ball run-out to steal the win away. Lily clinched the series at 2-0 in the process. Game 3 saw a slower start on both sides, but Nightfur hardly got better with a tough attempt at finishing. Lily had a five-ball run to get onto the 8, and plenty of time allowed her to convert it cleanly for the 3-0 series sweep. Lily will play in the second round.

Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Valencia v. Gizmo. After the break, the blue cue is up for 7-ball. Golden's Valencia had a good start to game 1, but she couldn't make it stand. North Modernistic's Gizmo made a pair at the end for the win, pulling ahead 1-0 in the series. The Pilots' Valencia had a much stronger grip on game 2, using a four-ball run in the middle to assert herself. The Nighthawks' Gizmo missed twice on the 7 and Valencia knocked it down to tie the series at 1. Valencia had a decent start, but Gizmo worked a four-ball run that ended with a deflection taking the 7 to the bottom side. Gizmo won the series 2-1 to earn his advancement to round two.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Watermelon v. Patches. Captains battle in a marquee series with the green cue in 12-ball. Boston's Patches had some questionable misses in game 1, and a couple of scratches, but her defense prevented Pearl's Watermelon from lining up at the end. Patches made a pair and took the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Watermelon couldn't find any positioning in game 3, and the Swifts' Patches applied pressure with five balls over the first two turns. Patches took her time to finish at the top side, easily winning to secure the series at 2-0. Game 3 saw Watermelon get a better start, but a couple of scratches held her back, and Patches' defense did the rest. Patches swept the series 3-0 to get into the second round.

T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Yekaterina v. Goatee. The green cue's last series today is in 9-ball. Westside's Goatee had a surprisingly strong game 1 with a six-ball run. Victoria's Yekaterina didn't wrangle the 9 at the end, and Goatee put it in the top left for the win to go up 1-0 in the series. The Rockers' Goatee had another overwhelming share of offense, this time making the last six balls over two turns with no danger in a response from the Spurs' Yekaterina. Goatee's exceptional showing sealed the series at 2-0. Goatee had some good looks in game 3, but her scratch set up Yekaterina for a 3-9 combination to the bottom left for her lone win in the series. Goatee advances to the second round on a 2-1 series win.

Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Kirstin v. Josie. Under-the-radar players meet in 15-ball with the red cue. Stonebridge's Kirstin scratched on the break and looked shaky in game 1, but Oceanside's Josie didn't fill the void much. Kirstin would steady with a four-ball run-out at the end, going up 1-0 in the series. The Wolves' Kirstin continued to be shaky at times in game 2, while the Waves' Josie had a larger portion of the offense. Josie's shot on the 8 would prove critical, as it left Kirstin an easy 8-15 combination to the top left for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Josie had a late four-ball run as she made a push in game 3, but her miss on the 14 let Kirstin convert the final pair for the win and 3-0 series sweep. Kirstin is set to play in the second round.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: Nibbles v. Brownie. Veterans collide in 15-ball with the purple cue. Royal's Brownie had much more stability in her game, while Web City's Nibbles floated aimlessly through game 1. Brownie used a decoy on the 14 to deflect the 15 into the top left for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Spiders' Nibbles still didn't look very good in game 2, but he took a gifted win as the Crowns' Brownie tried a trick shot that resulted in illegal contact and the 15 being illegally potted. This tied the series at 1. Brownie again appeared to have a large chunk of the offense, but her late miss on the 15 allowed nibbles to poach the win and the 2-1 series win all at once.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Misty v. Pauline. The purple cue stays up for this 7-ball series. Westside's Misty had a little more offense early in game 1, but the end-game was poor on both sides. Queens' Pauline left the 7 near the bottom right for Misty to kick in, and the host converted for the 1-0 series lead. The struggles persisted on both sides in game 2, with the Rockers' Misty faltering at the end. The Flames' Pauline was a little better and made the 7 on her second try for the win to tie the series at 1. Game 3 saw Pauline work a three-ball run from the break, answered by Misty with a three-ball run-out. Misty claimed a 2-1 series win and moved on to the second round.

Microsoft Center, Del Sur: Mams v. Chimpy. Oriental United club-mates meet in Rotation with the red cue. Southern's Mams had the early lead in game 1 and mostly did well to hold off Westside's Chimpy. At the end, Mams went unchallenged to pick up an 8-4 win for the 1-0 lead in the series. The Monarchs' Mams used a four-ball run to establish her lead early in game 2. The Rockers' Chimpy chipped back and briefly pulled even before Mams ripped a three-ball run-out for the 8-5 win. Mams sealed the series at 2-0. Mams didn't quite have enough offense in game 3 to complete the sweep. Chimpy kept things steady for most of the game, then broke away with an 8-4 win, leaving Mams to head to the second round on a 2-1 series win.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Paps v. Mr. Snowman. The silver cue is back in action for this 13-ball set. Steadfast defense elongated game 1 dramatically, with Capital City's Paps eventually slipping up and allowing Central's Mr. Snowman zip to the finish. Mr. Snowman leads the series 1-0. The Sharpshooters' Paps held the lead for much of game 2 but couldn't line up his last shot. A missed contact play completed the collapse, as the Warriors' Mr. Snowman made a pair from the ball-in-hand for the win. Mr. Snowman clinched the series at 2-0. Mr. Snowman couldn't get lined up at the end of game 3, and Paps eventually took care of the final pair of balls for the win. Mr. Snowman settled for a 2-1 series win to get him into the second round.

HP Field Events Center, Midland: Rainmane v. Mario. A Southeastern Derby in 10-ball with the silver cue opens a venue doubleheader. After a security breach early in game 1, Queens' Mario looked to be the more rattled player. Midland's Rainmane took advantage and easily earned the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Predators' Rainmane stayed locked in for game 2, converting a 4-10 combination to the top left for the early win over the Flames' Mario. This sealed the series at 2-0 for Rainmane. Game 3 didn't go as well for Rainmane, as her offense turned inconsistent. This opened enough space for Mario to get a win, although Rainmane heads to round two with a 2-1 series win anyway.

HP Field Events Center, Midland: Chicky Phil v. Nibbles. The venue doubleheader ends in 7-ball with the blue cue. Web City's Nibbles had a productive game 1 performance with a three-ball run, but Midland's Chicky Phil matched it at the end for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Predators' Chicky Phil had a couple of good bursts in game 2, but a scratch as he made the 6 ruined his chances. The Spiders' Nibbles easily tapped in the 7 to the top right for the win to tie the series at 1. Game 3 was a quick one for Nibbles, who sent the 1 and 7 to the bottom right on the break, doubling the impact from Chicky Phil's error. Nibbles took the series 2-1 and will visit Stonebridge Wolves newcomer Kirstin in the second round.

Ford Forum, Pronger: Prism v. Graham. Newcomers to their teams clash in 12-ball with the purple cue. Pronger's Prism had ups and downs in game 1, but a late scratch actually helped her get better positioning. Central's Graham wasn't ready for Prism to pick off three balls in two turns for the win at the end, and the host went up 1-0 in the series. The Tridents' Prism was millimeters away from getting solids in game 2, but they went to the Warriors' Graham instead. He made a five-ball run-out on his second turn for a dominant win to tie the series at 1. Prism and Graham defended against each other in game 3, but only Prism's held. She was forced into a shake-up shot, which resulted in her potting Graham's last ball and scratching. Graham took the free win for a 2-1 series win to stake his claim to a second round bid.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Lorde v. Sarah. Southwestern rivals start the day in 7-ball with the red cue. Capital City's Lorde drained a five-ball run from the game 1 break, but Tysini's Sarah made the final pair for the win and 1-0 series lead. A slower game 2 also saw the Hummingbirds' Sarah win, as she made a three-ball run and later capitalized on missed contact by the Sharpshooters' Lorde. Sarah's victory sealed the series at 2-0. Sarah had a four-ball run to start game 3, but she couldn't get the finish this time, while Lorde took the last three balls over two turns. Sarah settled for a 2-1 series win to put her in round two.

Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Max v. Mario. The second series of the day is in Accuracy with the purple cue. Queens' Mario had a late arrival to game 1, failing to get on track before it was too late. Golden's Max had an easy route to the 1-3 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Pilots' Max scratched on the break and made quite the mess at the start of game 2, allowing the Flames' Mario to reverse the score from before in his own 1-3 win. The series is tied at 1. Game 3 started off pretty evenly, but a couple of slips from Mario would prove costly to the visitor. Max only missed on the last ball in his 1-2 win that gave him a 2-1 series win to take into the second round.

McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Isabella v. Shiny. The blue cue is back from its day off to play 9-ball. Atlantic's Isabella had a good four-ball run in game 1, and it paid off when she converted the 9 after Lighton's Shiny left it short at the bottom right. Isabella holds a 1-0 series lead. The Pirates' Isabella led off game 2 with a four-ball run, but she faltered after that. The Prestige's Shiny would win with a deflection off the 6 to put the 9 in the top left, tying the series at 1. Shiny had a ball on the game 3 break, but her offense cooled. A battle on the 2 ensued until Isabella cut the 2-9 combination to the bottom left for the win and 2-1 series win. Isabella will have a hosting position in the second round.

T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Sage v. Kitty. Older yet less-experienced players meet in 9-ball for the purple cue's last series today. Midland's Kitty had a surprisingly easy time in game 1 with a pair of three-ball runs early and late to get the win over Victoria's Sage. Kitty leads the series 1-0. The Predators' Kitty had a little more effort required for game 2, as the Spurs' Sage put up a dangerous attack. Kitty navigated just fine, ending on a three-ball run-out for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Kitty didn't bring her best to game 3, but it was still good enough given how inconsistent Sage was in the series. Kitty's 3-0 series sweep launches her to round two.

Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Puff II v. Ms. Kitty. The green cue takes us into the lunch break with 8-ball. Boston's Puff II had an awful break in game 1, but still managed to keep the game close with a four-ball run. Pacific's Ms. Kitty still got the win with a four-ball run-out, earning the 1-0 series lead. The Volcanoes' Ms. Kitty had a four-ball run on stripes after taking one of each on the game 2 break. The Swifts' Puff II made a late push with a three-ball run but missed on the 8, and Ms. Kitty picked up the win for a 2-0 series lead. Ms. Kitty had a scratch early in game 3, which drastically set back her offense. Puff II used a five-ball run to establish herself, and then chipped her way to the finish for her lone win. Ms. Kitty heads to the second round on a 2-1 series win.

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Dani v. Gal. The silver cue gets us restarted after the lunch break in Accuracy. Viewpoint Sound's Dani had a questionable start to game 1, but managed to stay steady enough to cause trouble for North Modernistic's Gal at the end. Dani's positional play served her well in the 2-3 comeback win for a 1-0 series lead. The Meteors' Dani again started poorly in game 2, but she received no let-off this time, as the Nighthawks' Gal was near-perfect in a 1-5 win to tie the series at 1. Dani looked to be on track for another rough start, but she kept control in game 3. Gal couldn't maintain a thin lead and missed on the last ball, allowing Dani to win 1-2 for the 2-1 series win. Dani advances to round two.

UPS Hall, Maplewood: Whiskers v. Oreo. The red cue cycles in for a 13-ball series. Maplewood's Whiskers had two overfills in game 1, slowing her just enough to compensate for Terrace City's Oreo struggling with positioning. Whiskers then had illegal contact for her last ball, setting Oreo up with ball-in-hand to pot a pair for the win and 1-0 lead in the series. The Knights' Oreo slowly but surely attacked in game 2, getting down to her last ball which was out of position. The Lumberjacks' Whiskers then unleashed a six-ball run and took the 8 on the next turn for the win, tying the series at 1 game apiece. Whiskers made one of each on the game 3 break, turning in a four-ball run on a solids. She had a scratch, but Oreo wasn't able to attack much, and Whiskers cruised to the finish on a three-ball run-out. Whiskers took the series 2-1 to get into the second round.

HP Field Events Center, Midland: Chicky Phil v. Angelica. The blue cue is back for this 10-ball series. Midland's Chicky Phil started game 1 on a four-ball run before his offense fizzled out, just in time for Lighton's Angelica to post a four-ball run-out. Angelica's win gave her a 1-0 series lead. The Prestige's Angelica had a lackluster break to start game 2. This led to a slow burn in the game, until the Predators' Chicky Phil unleashed a five-ball run-out for the win, tying the series at 1. Chicky Phil didn't have a big run in game 3, but his steady offense was timed perfectly after Angelica missed contact on the 7. Chicky Phil posted a three-ball run-out for the win, the 2-1 series win, and the ticket to the second round.

Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Puff II v. Marissa. The host is back for a second series today, using the red cue in 13-ball. Boston's Puff II used strategy in many ways in game 1, including an intentional scratch to aid her positioning and a block on the last ball for Maplewood's Marissa at the bottom right. Puff II would get the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Swifts' Puff II made a three-ball run from the game 2 break, but positioning looked to be a problem. The Lumberjacks' Marissa would erase that by illegally potting the 8 after missing her cut on the 9 toward the top right. Puff II took the free win to secure the series at 2-0. Puff II had great positioning in game 3, but a rattled Marissa turned aggressive to keep things going. The play paid off, as Marissa picked up a three-ball run-out for her lone win of the series. Puff II's 2-1 series win got her to the second round.

Nissan Hall, Infinity: Fluffina v. Bells. The red cue remains in action for this 12-ball series. Infinity's Fluffina had a good start in game 1 and a miracle kick shot on the 3 to the bottom side to demoralize Todavía's Bells. Fluffina then played patient at the top right before taking the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Torpedoes' Fluffina gave away two wild-card balls during a three-ball run from the break in game 2. The Stills' Bells had a three-ball run pretty quickly after that, but a slow finish kept Fluffina alive, and the host would have won if not for a scratch. Bells won instead, tying the series at 1. BMW RockDome, Westside: Goatee v. Sierra. The silver cue is up for 7-ball. Westside's Goatee had most of the offense in game 1, and benefited from the moments where Todavía's Sierra wasn't crisp on her shots. Goatee took the final pair of shots for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Rockers' Goatee had another good portion of offense in game 2, but she flubbed a shot on the 7 this time. The Stills' Sierra mopped it up at the bottom side for the win, pulling even in the 1-1 series. Goatee's botched shot would end up costing her double, as Sierra cranked the 2 to the bottom left and the 7 to the top right on the game 3 break for the instant win. Sierra took the series 2-1 and moves on to round two.

IBM Cathedral, North Modernistic: Cheddar v. Wings. Also in the Urban region, there's 10-ball with the silver cue. A slow start to game 1 turned into a three-ball run for Pearl's Wings, but he missed on the 9. North Modernistic's Cheddar finished it off with a pair of shots for the win and 1-0 lead in the series. The Nighthawks' Cheddar had another modest start in game 2, but then made five of the last six balls over two turns for the win. The Surfers' Wings had deferred possession in that stretch, clearly a mistake. Cheddar's win sealed the series at 2-0. Cheddar had a solid performance in game 3, but it wouldn't stick this time. Wings used a three-ball run-out to notch his lone win in Cheddar's 2-1 series win, which sent the host to the second round.

Microsoft Center, Del Sur: Molly v. Kirstin. A current Monarch meets a former one for 7-ball with the blue cue. Stonebridge's Kirstin flew through game 1 on a six-ball run-out after Southern's Molly was limited to one ball on the break. Kirstin owns a 1-0 series lead. The Wolves' Kirstin didn't let the Monarchs' Molly see the table in game 2. Kirstin made a four-ball run-out from the break, ending with a 3-7 kick combination to the top left for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Kirstin went empty on the game 3 break, and a 2-7 combination two shots later helped Molly avoid the sweep. Kirstin still won the series 2-1 to advance to the second round.

Cisco Arena, Tysini: Sarah v. Blaze. The host's second series today is a Southwestern Derby in 15-ball with the red cue. Game 1 was incredibly slow at the start, but it was Tysini's Sarah who found the first big run. Infinity's Blaze made a three-ball run later, but Sarah took a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Torpedoes' Blaze probably had a majority of the offense in game 2 after a three-ball run in the middle, but his miss on the 15 at the end left him at a loss. The Hummingbirds' Sarah tapped in the winning shot, the close result enough to clinch the series for her at 2-0. Blaze simply didn't have much left on offense in game 3, while Sarah looked stronger than ever. Sarah made the last five balls over two turns for the win to complete the 3-0 series sweep en route to the second round.

AT&T Hall, Oceanside: Josie v. Megan. A pair of Oceanside Waves teammates meet in 8-ball with the red cue. Megan had a good attack with a five-ball run in game 1, but her late fade bought time for Josie to make a comeback. Josie potted five balls on her last two turns to win the game, going up 1-0 in the series. In game 2, both players were a little more crisp on offense, but Josie remained a step ahead of Megan and again picked up the win. Josie clinched the series at 2-0. Megan had a five-ball run in game 3, but her cut attempt on the 10 ended up sinking the 8 prematurely. The gifted win gave Josie a 3-0 series sweep to propel her to the second round.

UPS Hall, Maplewood: Vladimir v. Vincent. Finally, best friends and Northeastern rivals collide in 12-ball with the green cue to end the day. Maplewood's Vladimir had an alright start to game 1, but his lack of late positioning, combined with great play from Everton's Vincent, tipped the game to the visitor. Vincent holds a 1-0 series lead. The Eagles' Vincent cranked a five-ball run early on in game 2, but it didn't hold up as he couldn't corral his last ball. The Lumberjacks' Vladimir rallied with a pair and then a four-ball run-out on consecutive turns for the win to tie the series at 1. Vladimir surrendered a wild-card ball on the game 3 break, but he kept things close despite the disadvantage. Vincent made his last ball to the bottom side just in the nick of time to get the win and 2-1 series win that puts him through to the second round.

Cisco Arena, Tysini: Sugar v. Salmo. The purple cue gets first dibs with a 9-ball series. Tysini's Sugar made an impressive start in game 1, sinking the 3 at the top side and the 9 at the bottom left for the win and 1-0 series lead before Diamond's Salmo ever got a shot. The Hummingbirds' Sugar scratched on the game 2 break and looked much less confident. The Gems' Salmo managed a four-ball run, but he butchered a shot on the 7. Sugar struck with a deflection off the 7 to drive the 9 to the top left for the win that sealed the series at 2-0. Sugar had another slow start in game 3, but when Salmo wasn't better, Sugar potted a seven-ball run-out to complete the 3-0 series sweep. She'll enjoy the comforts of home again in the second round.

Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Twinkie I v. Jake. The purple cue remains in action for Accuracy. Pacific's Twinkie I couldn't hang onto the perfect standard set by Royal's Jake in game 1, fading toward the end. Jake closed out a 0-3 win to go up 1-0 in the series. Game 2 remained close up to the end, but the Volcanoes' Twinkie I once again started to fade. The Crowns' Jake escaped some early danger and was rewarded with the 1-4 win, clinching the series at 2-0. In game 3, both players kept the score close to the finish. Jake would set up Twinkie I for the last shot to avoid a tie, allowing Twinkie I to salvage a 2-3 win. Jake's 2-1 series win got him into the second round.

Ford Forum, Pronger: Avril v. Luigi. The green cue draws in for 15-ball between Celebrity club-mates. Southridge's Luigi had a larger chunk of the offense, with a mid-game four-ball run and a late three-ball run, but he missed his bank on the 15. Pronger's Avril tapped it to the bottom left for the game 1 win and 1-0 series lead. The 15 got pushed out toward the bottom right early in game 2, making a combination nearly inevitable at some point. The Defenders' Luigi delivered on a 4-6-15 combination for the win to beat the Tridents' Avril and tie the series at 1. Game 3 was as balanced as any in the series, with Luigi leaning a little more into his offense. Avril would strike late after Luigi missed contact, as Avril converted the 8 and then added the 9-15 combination to the top left. Avril won the series 2-1 to advance to the second round.

Cisco Arena, Tysini: Sarah v. Nibbles. From the Southwest, we have 9-ball with the green cue. Tysini's Sarah had a rough time in game 1, as Web City's Nibbles worked a three-ball run and seemed to be in charge late. Sarah did manage to clean up the 9 to the bottom left for the win and 1-0 series lead despite her overall poorer play. The Spiders' Nibbles quickly got revenge after the Hummingbirds' Sarah scratched on the game 2 break. Nibbles sank the 1 to the bottom side, then made a 2-9 combination to the top left with the 4 going to the top side as a double-pot. Nibbles' win tied the series at 1. Nibbles could have been a threat if he managed a run in game 3, as Sarah started off with a number of scratches. Sarah righted her play with a four-ball run-out for the win and 2-1 series win to get into the second round.

Intel Center, Diamond: Salmo v. Wings. The host gets his second series today, using the silver cue for 8-ball. Diamond's Salmo scratched on the game 1 break, and then both players had a five-ball run. Pearl's Wings came close to sinking the 8, but Salmo battled back with a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Wings didn't change his strategy, again starting with a five-ball run in game 2. He ended up with the same result as the Gems' Salmo balanced his offense to finish on a three-ball run-out again. Salmo sealed the series at 2-0. Salmo struck first in game 3 on a four-ball run, then weathered a two-pronged counterattack from Wings before converting a three-ball run-out. Salmo swept the series 3-0, cruising into the second round.

AT&T Hall, Oceanside: Rocky v. Fuchsia. After the lunch break, there's 7-ball with the purple cue. Oceanside's Rocky found a four-ball run in the middle of game 1, but it didn't sustain him. Infinity's Fuchsia finished the effort with a pair of shots for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Torpedoes' Fuchsia had the only possession in game 2, sinking a pair on the break and closing her five-ball run-out with a 4-7 kick combination to the top left. This sealed the series in her favor at 2-0 without a chance to reply for the Waves' Rocky. A messy game 3 performance ultimately ended up in Rocky's favor after Fuchsia botched a simple shot on the 7 at the end. Fuchsia still won the series 2-1 to get into the second round.

Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Citrus v. Sugar. Southwestern rivals tangle in another 7-ball series, this time using the silver cue. Tysini's Sugar made the first pair and last three shots in game 1, a dominant showing on offense for the win and 1-0 series lead over Lighton's Citrus. The Prestige's Citrus was a little better in game 2, bouncing a three-ball run-out after a long battle on the 5 that saw the Hummingbirds' Sugar lose her touch. Citrus' win tied the series at 1. Sugar got back on track in game 3, jumping in a shot on the 1 at the bottom side. Citrus played well, but Sugar was better with a deflection off the 3 to drain the 7 at the bottom right for the win and 2-1 series win. Sugar is headed to the second round.

AT&T Hall, Oceanside: Snuggle v. Leonardo. The silver cue goes again in 12-ball. Diamond's Leonardo found a three-ball run early, but a lack of positioning gave Oceanside's Snuggle plenty of time to push ahead for the win. Snuggle leads the series 1-0. The Waves' Snuggle dealt with the top rail quickly, but had no positioning after that in game 2. A thorough defense from the Gems' Leonardo turned into an effective five-ball run-out as he surged for the win to tie the series at 1. Snuggle had some moments in game 3, including a three-ball run, but Leonardo was ultimately not punished for one of the worst breaks of the young season. Leonardo made his final pair for the win, the 2-1 series win, and the trip to the second round.

McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Steven v. Sierra. A top-ranked player gets a 10-ball series with the silver cue. Atlantic's Steven dominated game 1 with a trio of three-ball runs, suffocating the offense of Todavía's Sierra. Steven easily took a 1-0 series lead. The Pirates' Steven broke the chalk before game 2, but he defied the bad omens as it was the Stills' Sierra who suffered misfortune. Sierra left the 10 at the bottom left after a tough battle, and Steven tapped it down for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Steven completed the sweep in game 3, finding a four-ball run-out after a slowdown on the 6 that Sierra couldn't solve. Steven's 3-0 series win puts him at home again in the second round.

Intel Center, Diamond: Autumn v. Spot. The Eastern Hills Derby is back on with 7-ball and the silver cue. Diamond's Autumn had all the early offense in game 1, but Pronger's Spot picked up the win with a late pair of shots. Spot holds a 1-0 series lead. The Tridents' Spot tried to be a little too creative in game 2. He almost got away with it, but the Gems' Autumn got on track with a four-ball run-out for the win, which tied the series at 1. Autumn began game 3 on a four-ball run, but couldn't sink the 4. Spot rallied with a three-ball run-out, blasting his shots down for the win to take the series 2-1. Spot will play in the second round.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Midnight v. Peach. Tough Urban rivals meet in 15-ball with the green cue. North Modernistic's Peach had more offense early on in game 1, while Westside's Midnight made a later surge. Midnight missed the 15, and Peach tapped it to the top left for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Peach didn't have as much offense in game 2, which coupled with a four-ball run-out from the Rockers' Midnight to even the series at 1. Midnight's strong offense for the win marked a momentum change in the series. Peach made quick work of game 3, working a three-ball run-out with a 3-15 combination to the bottom left on her only turn. Peach won the series 2-1 and will host Queens Flames newcomer Pauline in the second round.

UPS Hall, Maplewood: Whiskers v. Snowball. The red cue gets a look now in 15-ball. Nothing elegant came from game 1, as both players struggled on offense. Maplewood's Whiskers likely had the best stretch in the middle, but Swordpoint's Snowball won with a pair at the end for a 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Snowball had virtually all of the offense in game 2, including an early five-ball run, but she couldn't bring it home. The Lumberjacks' Whiskers plucked a pair of shots at the end for the win, tying the series at 1. Game 3 returned to a low-event, back-and-forth pace. Whiskers was the lucky recipient of the final shot, taking the 15 to the bottom right after Snowball couldn't finish the effort. Whiskers won the series 2-1 and heads to the second round.

Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Ice Cream v. Dusky. The silver cue returns for this Rotation match. Boston's Ice Cream established a lead early in game 1 and never looked back, with Atlantic's Dusky struggling to even get on the board for awhile. Ice Cream won 8-3 and moved ahead 1-0 in the series. Roles reversed in game 2 after the Swifts' Ice Cream scratched on the break. The Pirates' Dusky had a confident run and finished with an 8-2 win, tying the series at 1 game apiece. Game 3 finally brought both players at their best. A back-and-forth battle, Ice Cream led early on and again later, but couldn't hold off a late run from Dusky that saw her make four balls over two turns for an 8-6 win. Dusky took the series 2-1 to move into the second round.

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Toki v. Strawberry. The host's competitive career debut comes in Rotation with the purple cue. Eastside's Toki struggled at first in game 1, allowing Victoria's Strawberry to build her lead. Toki then had a couple errors, and Strawberry ended by double-potting the 9 to the bottom side and the 12 to the bottom left for the 8-3 win and 1-0 series lead. The Sharks' Toki did better in game 2, keeping things even at first. The Spurs' Strawberry got a bit of a lead, which Toki matched on a three-ball run, but Strawberry would end up with an 8-5 win anyway. Strawberry secured the series for herself at 2-0. Toki wouldn't leave the series empty-handed, putting in a strong effort to score an 8-3 win over Strawberry in game 3. Strawberry still won the series 2-1 to get to the second round.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: Omari v. Lorde. The silver cue gets one more series today in 13-ball. Web City's Omari began game 1 on a three-ball run, but Capital City's Lorde had a four-ball run in response. Lorde maintained that narrow edge right to the finish, taking the win for a 1-0 series lead. Both players had a high pace in game 2, with the Sharpshooters' Lorde striking first, only for the Spiders' Omari to be a step ahead for most of the game. Omari would take a pair at the end for the win to tie the series at 1. Omari had Lorde on the ropes for most of game 3, but Omari's scratches slowed him down. Lorde then ripped a six-ball run-out for the game and the 2-1 series win. Lorde will advance to round two.

UPS Hall, Maplewood: Summer v. Puff I. The day ends with 13-ball as well, except with the red cue in this series. Modernistic's Puff I had good positioning but poorer execution in game 1, her sloppy play allowing Maplewood's Summer to slowly work her way to the win. Summer didn't mess around with a late three-ball run-out for the 1-0 series lead. Game 2 remained close, with the Lumberjacks' Summer losing her way on a mid-game scratch. The Union's Puff I put in the work to make the comeback, sinking the 8 to the bottom side to tie the series at 1. Game 3 could have gone either way, as Puff I got onto the 8 quickly and took her time. Summer also got onto the 8 but missed her only chance, and Puff I put it down to the top side for the 2-1 series win.

Tournament play resumes after a three-day break with the beginning of the First Round. This is expected to be a 45-day journey with every player still active. Series remain in a best-of-three format. We begin with...

Intel Center, Diamond: Shadow v. Hoot. The blue cue gets the first series today, playing in 9-ball. Both players had their troubles in game 1, with Viewpoint Sound's Hoot sinking the 9 on his third try to take a 1-0 series lead over Diamond's Shadow. The Meteors' Hoot saw his game 2 unravel with one bad shot, which was an illegal contact scratch to end his three-ball run. The Gems' Shadow took the last two balls from ball-in-hand for the win to tie the series at 1. Shadow took over to close out game 3, ripping a seven-ball run-out as he completed the series comeback. Shadow is the first of many players to punch a ticket to the second round.

Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Rudolph v. Americus. Brute Force club-mates meet in 13-ball with the blue cue. Harrison's Rudolph was already behind when he committed an overfill at the bottom right. This gave Midland's Americus plenty of room to finish off game 1 victorious for the 1-0 series lead. The Predators' Americus established herself with a four-ball run in game 2, but her offense was slow after that. The Specters' Rudolph had a three-ball run-out for the win after an overfill and a scratch, the big comeback serving to tie the series at 1. Rudolph had a lot of early offense in game 3, but he nearly committed another overfill. That misplay allowed Americus to slowly rally back, and she finished with the 8 in the bottom right for the win and 2-1 series win to get into the second round.

Kraft Forum, Royal: Sunshine v. Missy. The green cue gets a turn in 13-ball now. Game 1 was close, but Royal's Sunshine can thank his defense at the top left for throwing Capital City's Missy out of a rhythm. Missy still had a chance to win, but she missed on the 8, and Sunshine converted for the 1-0 lead in the series. The Crowns' Sunshine had five balls down in his first two turns, pressuring Missy into a scratch and an overfill over her next two turns. Sunshine was sharp at the end, getting the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Sunshine didn't have a great distribution on stripes in game 3, but he held his defense at the top left and baited Missy into giving him a freebie. Sunshine missed on the 8, and Missy would clean it up for the win, but Sunshine still took the series 2-1 as he advanced to the second round.

Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Hoppy v. Stripes. Leading into the break, there's 15-ball with the purple cue. All the early offense Archtown's Hoppy had in game 1 went to waste when she left the 15 short at the top right. Freedom's Stripes tapped it down, her late surge cashed in for a win and 1-0 series lead. The Cascades' Stripes peaked with a six-ball run in the middle of game 2, but it was all offense for the Arrows' Hoppy after that. Hoppy made the last five balls over two turns, earning the win to tie the series at 1. Game 3 saw Hoppy strike in surprising fashion, a 5-15 combination rattling into a cluster and then dropping to the bottom left for the win and 2-1 series win to send her into the second round.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Wario v. Autumn. After the break, the red cue steps in for Accuracy. Diamond's Autumn had a solid performance in game 1, maintaining her lead to a 2-3 win over Southridge's Wario. Autumn leads the series 1-0. The Gems' Autumn followed up with an even better game 2, keeping her play perfect to take the 0-2 win over the Defenders' Wario this time. Autumn's victory sealed the series in her favor at 2-0. Wario didn't get any better in game 3, fading late as Autumn ran away with a 2-5 win to take the series in 3-0 sweep. Autumn's early bid for a Cinderella run is into the second round.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Quincy v. Crystal. The blue cue returns to action in this 15-ball series. Terrace City's Quincy had a decent start in game 1, but it faded after Queens' Crystal had a five-ball run. Crystal managed to close it out after a sloppy finish, going up 1-0 in the series. The Flames' Crystal tried to play bold in game 2, but too many errors weighed her down. The Knights' Quincy found a four-ball run and later struck the 15 to the bottom side for the win to tie the series at 1. Crystal had a four-ball run at one point, but her offense evaporated near the end. Quincy sealed the win with a four-ball run-out, and that gave him the 2-1 series win to send him to the second round.

Google Hall, Modernistic: Kodiak v. Stinky. The silver cue makes its first round debut in Accuracy. Modernistic's Kodiak held steady despite some tough mid-game shots in game 1. Freedom's Stinky unraveled near the end, allowing Kodiak to claim the 2-5 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Union's Kodiak had three balls on the break and a later double-pot in game 2, but his misses would define the performance. The Cascades' Stinky got the win with near-perfection in a 1-3 game that tied the series at 1. Kodiak had an iffy start to game 3, but he held his ground as Stinky again fell apart completely. Kodiak's 3-7 win earned him a 2-1 series to win get him into round two.

AT&T Hall, Oceanside: Rocky v. Steven. The silver cue remains in action for 8-ball. A balanced game 1 could have gone either way, but Atlantic's Steven rattled off a three-ball run-out for the win to take a 1-0 series lead over Oceanside's Rocky. Choppy offense remained a factor in game 2, with the Pirates' Steven getting the first strike but not a lot else. The Waves' Rocky did a little better and pulled away to the win, tying the series at 1. Rocky had game 3 on the ropes, the 8 lingering at the top left, but his miss allowed Steven to rally with a four-ball run-out. Steven claimed the win, the 2-1 series win, and the trip to the second round.

Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Twinkie I v. Pauline. We're back in 15-ball, using the green cue this time. Pacific's Twinkie I seemed to have a larger portion of the slow-moving offense early in game 1, but she didn't sustain it. Queens' Pauline used a three-ball run-out to take the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Flames' Pauline had a nice break in game 2, but the Volcanoes' Twinkie I needed just two shots to convert a 2-15 combination to the bottom left for the win. The sudden strike tied the series at 1 game apiece. Pauline struck right back in game 3 after Twinkie I missed contact on the 2. Pauline made the 3-15 combination to the top side for the 2-1 series win, which sends her into the second round.

Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Sally v. Molly. The first top-seeded player is hosting this Rotation series with the red cue. Archtown's Sally had a good run in the middle of game 1, but Southern's Molly battled back and found a way to win 8-5 for the 1-0 series lead. The Monarchs' Molly started well in game 2, but her offense stagnated with a mid-game scratch. That moment sparked a four-ball run-out to all corners for the Arrows' Sally, who took the 8-4 win to tie the series at 1. Molly pulled ahead early in game 3, but she stalled out again in the mid-game. Sally composed herself and attacked to win 8-6, taking the series 2-1 as she advances to the second round.

Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Juno v. Wings. Also in Rotation is this bitter series with the silver cue. Pearl's Wings was far better in game 1, while Stonebridge's Juno floundered between poor mistakes and worse errors. Wings picked up the win by an 8-3 score, going ahead 1-0 in the series. Tempers flared in game 2, although the Wolves' Juno channeled her anger into an 8-5 win over the Surfers' Wings, who seemed completely lost by the end of the game. The series is tied at 1. Game 3 went down to the wire, as neither player really had much control of their play. Wings took the final pair of shots for an 8-6 win to move onto round two with a 2-1 series win.

Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Twinkie III v. Sydney S. A top-seed series is up in 7-ball with the blue cue. Whitewater's Twinkie III kept it simple in game 1, cranking a hard break to send the 7 to the bottom left for the win and 1-0 series lead over Harrison's Sydney S. The Shores' Twinkie III had to use a little more effort in game 2, but the Specters' Sydney S. committed illegal contact late. Twinkie III made the final pair of shots from ball-in-hand for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Twinkie III had a majority of the offense again in game 3, completing a thorough sweep of Sydney S. Twinkie III will have a spot in the second round.

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Lily v. Taylor M. More top-seeded action with an all-Eastside Sharks twist is on in 7-ball with the purple cue. Game 1 saw Lily work a three-ball run from the break and later added three more balls over her last two turns, a dominant showing for a win over Taylor M. Lily leads the series 1-0. Game 2 saw Lily continue to make a solid attack, but it wasn't enough this time. Taylor M. provided a pair of soft touches at the end to get the win, tying the series at 1. It wasn't particularly pretty in game 3, but Taylor M.'s late miss on the 6 set up Lily for the final pair of shots. Lily converted and won the series 2-1 to get into the second round.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Luigi v. Wario. The ultra-rare battle of players who are both teammates and club-mates commences in 9-ball with the green cue. Both players had similar efforts in game 1, but it was Luigi leaving the 9 short of the top right that allowed Wario to tap it in for the win and 1-0 series lead. Game 2 followed a similar cadence, with Luigi's late miss on the 9 coming at the bottom left this time. Wario's held his own on offense, but the easy tap-ins late have assured him of a 2-0 series lead. Luigi couldn't kick the 9 to the bottom right at the end of a slow-moving game 3, and Wario cleaned it up again to sweep the series 3-0 as he heads to the second round.

IBM Cathedral, North Modernistic: Peach v. Rainmane. Tough opponents clash in Accuracy with the silver cue. Midland's Rainmane had some baffling misses, and North Modernistic's Peach made sure to take advantage of them in a 2-5 win for the 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Peach had an awful showing in game 2 and still nearly got away with it, as the Predators' Rainmane only had a thin 4-5 win to tie the series. Peach was plagued by scratches throughout game 3, ruining her chance to salvage a result. Rainmane was merciless, winning 1-4 and taking the series 2-1 as she advanced to the second round.

Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Leonette v. Snuggle. The day ends in Rotation with the green cue. Pacific's Leonette had a three-ball run from the break in game 1, but that was all she'd get. Oceanside's Snuggle answered with a four-ball run and won 8-3 on a three-ball run-out to take the 1-0 series lead. The Volcanoes' Leonette skated on thin ice in game 2, as the Waves' Snuggle got on the brink of victory with a four-ball run. Leonette fired back a four-ball run-out for the 8-7 win, tying the series at 1. There would be no heroics for Leonette in game 3, as Snuggle closed out with an 8-3 win to move to the second round on a 2-1 series win.
