Ten-Year Anniversary Tournament - Round 1 Day 9

This is it for the opening round of the TYAT. Today's games begin with...

Tigerette v. Shiny. The first series uses the purple cue in 15-ball. Commerce's Tigerette impressed late in game 1 with a six-ball run, but she faltered at the end and Lighton's Shiny poked in the 15 for the win. Shiny leads the series 1-0. The Tradewinds' Tigerette kept up her offense in game 2, finding a four-ball run-out this time with a double-deflection off the 11 and 13 to sink the 15 at the top left. The Prestige's Shiny had no chance to answer as the series became tied at 1. Shiny had a five-ball run in the middle of game 3, then got the right sequence of shots at the end to beat Tigerette for the win. Shiny won the series 2-1 and will face the Pacific Volcanoes' Ms. Kitty in the second round.

Twinkie II v. Rainmane. Next up, there's 7-ball with the green cue. Harrison's Twinkie II eventually found a three-ball run-out in game 1 after shaky play from her and Midland's Rainmane. Twinkie II leads the series 1-0. The Specters' Twinkie II left nothing to chance in game 2, making the 3 in the bottom left and the 7 in the top side on the break to secure a 2-0 series lead over the Predators' Rainmane. Rainmane had a chance to grab a sloppy win in game 3, but left the 7 short of the top right. Twinkie II tapped it down for the 3-0 series sweep to move into the second round versus the Boston Swifts' Gradley.

Solaris v. Lionel. The red cue comes aboard for 10-ball. Solaris, representing Infinity, had a lot of the early offense, but managed to miss the 10 twice before North Modernistic's Lionel knocked it down for the win. Lionel leads the series 1-0. The Torpedoes' Solaris improved with a six-ball run late in game 2, and then collected the 10 on his second try to beat the Nighthawks' Lionel. This tied the series at 1. Solaris tried a similar attack in game 3, but ended with a four-ball run. Lionel struck back with the final pair to get the win, giving him a 2-1 series win and a trip to the second round versus the Whitewater Shores' Marsell.

Leonette v. Leandra. In 8-ball, the blue cue gets a turn. Harrison's Leandra made a three-ball run on her first turn and followed up with a five-ball run-out to bury Pacific's Leonette in game 1. Leandra leads the series 1-0. The Specters' Leandra started slow and then found a run in game 2, but peaked too early. The Volcanoes' Leonette then pushed back on a five-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Leandra led for much of game 3, but Leonette caught up with a four-ball run before playing perfect defense. Leandra missed contact on her last ball, and Leonette took the 8 to the bottom side from ball-in-hand for the win. Leonette won the series 2-1 and advanced to the second round.

Dusky v. Citrus. Moving along to Accuracy, the silver cue activates. Archtown's Dusky made a pair on the break in game 1 and was nearly perfect while Diamond's Citrus faltered. Dusky won 1-4 and took a 1-0 series lead. The Arrows' Dusky nearly had the series locked up in game 2, but she missed to end regulation and on her first shot in overtime. The Gems' Citrus took the 2-3 win and tied the series at 1. Dusky trailed for most of game 3, only to recover just before the end of regulation. Citrus then missed in overtime, and Dusky answered for a 3-4 win to take the series 2-1. Dusky opposes the Maplewood Lumberjacks' Bryant in the second round.

Shiny v. Sprinkles. The designated host's second series today uses the purple cue for Accuracy. Web City's Shiny made a pair on the break and asserted herself throughout game 1 to claim a 1-3 win over Capital City's Sprinkles. Shiny has a 1-0 series lead. Both players were relentless early in game 2, but the Spiders' Shiny was able to turn that into perfection for a 0-2 win over the Sharpshooters' Sprinkles. Shiny sealed the series at 2-0 with this win. Sprinkles got away with the game 3 win, dragging Shiny down late in a 2-4 result. Shiny won the series 2-1 and will face the Tysini Hummingbirds' Charli in the second round.

Zach v. Debby. Next up is 12-ball, featuring the green cue. Pronger's Zach had a lot of early offense, but a scratch and a lack of positioning, combined with Diamond's Debby lining up a big run, changed game 1. Debby made all six balls in one turn, the surge good enough to give her a 1-0 series lead. The Gems' Debby made three solids and a stripe on the game 2 break, and that wild-card ball wasn't enough to help the Tridents' Zach. Debby later made another three-ball run-out for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Debby yielded a wild-card ball in game 3 as well, and Zach nearly took advantage of it, but he missed on his last shot. Debby, fueled by an earlier three-ball run, made the winning shot at the bottom right to sweep the series 3-0. She'll face the Royal Crowns' Nightfur in the second round.

Briana v. Sydnee. Another 12-ball series uses the red cue to bring us to today's halfway point. Queens' Briana played heavy defense at the bottom right, but couldn't stop Royal's Sydnee from collecting the win anyway for a 1-0 series lead. The Crowns' Sydnee gave away a wild-card ball in game 2, but almost got away with it after playing defense. The Flames' Briana then potted five balls over two turns to grab the win, tying the series at 1. Sydnee had plenty of offense in game 3, but Briana stepped up with late defense to earn the win and 2-1 series win. Briana will face the Pacific Volcanoes' Starlight in the second round.

Briana v. Pedey. The designated host goes again in 8-ball with the blue cue. Todavía's Pedey led for much of game 1 but couldn't bring it home before Queens' Briana won on a three-ball run-out. Briana holds a 1-0 series lead. The Flames' Briana made a five-ball run early in game 2 and never looked back, as the Stills' Pedey failed to pot a ball. Briana won three turns later and clinched the series at 2-0. Pedey again held a lead in game 3, but Briana got the win with a three-ball run-out. Briana swept the series 3-0 and will meet the Pearl Surfers' Victoria in the second round.

Nightfur v. Kayla. The two captains of the Royal Crowns meet in 9-ball with the silver cue. Royal's Nightfur stepped up in game 1 by making every ball while Kayla, representing Queens this time, was unable to strike. Nightfur's late pair gave her the win and 1-0 series lead. The Crowns' Nightfur had another strong start with a three-ball run, but the Flames' Kayla popped off with a six-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Offense slowed down a bit toward the end of game 3 until Nightfur deflected a shot off the 6 to tap the 9 into the bottom left. Nightfur won the series 2-1 and will face another Flame, the captain Crystal, in the second round.

Leandra v. Vincent. We've got 15-ball with the purple cue here. Everton's Vincent rounded into form fairly quickly in game 1, and he made no mistake with his three-ball run-out to finish off a strong win over Tysini's Leandra. Vincent leads the series 1-0. Both players used up their best runs early in game 2. The Eagles' Vincent struggled a bit more near the end, allowing the Hummingbirds' Leandra to land softly before picking up a pair for the win to tie the series at 1. Leandra carved out a strong four-ball run-out early in game 3, using the 3 in combination with the 14 and the 15 on the left corners to beat Vincent. Leandra took the series 2-1 and will face the Boston Swifts' Patches in the second round.

Shawn v. Jake. The green cue is done for the round in 13-ball. Midland's Shawn couldn't sort out his positioning in game 1, and Royal's Jake eventually breezed past him for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Crowns' Jake started well on solids in game 2, but the Predators' Shawn briefly pulled even with a four-ball run that ended with illegal contact. Jake then made a pair from ball-in-hand for the win, sealing the series at 2-0. Jake had an unpleasant break in game 3 which slowed down the pace of play on both sides. Shawn navigated it better and got the win to avoid the sweep, as Jake's 2-1 series win sends him to the second round versus the Tysini Hummingbirds' Sarah.

Misty v. Americus. The red cue wraps up its games in 10-ball. Westside's Misty didn't look very good in game 1, playing shaky and scratching the one time she had a chance to take over. Surrounding that, Midland's Americus made a four-ball run and a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Rockers' Misty improved with a three-ball run early in game 2. She also had a late surge, but missed the 10 at the top left. The Predators' Americus cut it to the top right for the win, securing the series at 2-0 in the process. Misty struggled again in a choppy game 3, which led to Americus deflecting off the 7 to take the 10 at the bottom left. Americus swept the series 3-0 and will face the Todavía Stills captain Easter in the second round.

Whiskers v. Puff II. Rotation is done after this series with the blue cue. Boston's Puff II took an early lead and then held on late over Infinity's Whiskers to grab an 8-5 win. Puff II leads the series 1-0. The Torpedoes' Whiskers put up more of a fight in game 2, but couldn't get over the line at the end. The Swifts' Puff II dropped the 15 in the top left for the win by an 8-7 score to seal the series at 2-0. Whiskers salvaged a result in game 3, pulling in an 8-3 win over Puff II as the latter struggled. Puff II won the series 2-1 and will meet Ms. Kitty of the Pacific Volcanoes in the second round.

Ruby v. Ice Cream. The silver cue closes up with 8-ball. Boston's Ice Cream had multiple fouls in game 1 and flubbed her finish, buying just enough time for Todavía's Ruby to step in for the win. Ruby leads the series 1-0. In game 2, it was a pair of early stick fouls that set the Stills' Ruby back just far enough for the Swifts' Ice Cream to conjure up a win. Ice Cream's close victory tied the series at 1. Ruby was a little quicker on offense than Ice Cream, who missed contact when she needed a big run. Ruby won the series 2-1 and will take on the Pacific Volcanoes' Leonette in the second round.

Valencia v. Shadow. A fantastic finale comes in 9-ball with the purple cue. Golden's Valencia looked fine early, but Web City's Shadow made the last five balls over two turns to earn the win and 1-0 series lead after game 1. The Spiders' Shadow didn't find a lot of early offense, but he was able to sink a three-ball run-out after the Pilots' Valencia got shaky near the end of game 2. Shadow's strong finish secured the series for him at 2-0. Shadow saved his best performance for last, beating Valencia on a six-ball run-out in game 3 to finish the 3-0 series sweep. Shadow will oppose the Royal Crowns' Oreo in the second round. 

That's all for the opening round. In Round Two, we transition to five-game series. This is expected to last eight or nine days, but the precise timing is yet to be determined due to circumstances outside of my control.

Ten-Year Anniversary Tournament - Round 1 Day 8

We're back for the penultimate day of the round, leading off with...

Patches v. Dusty. The silver cue opens the day with a massive 12-ball series. Boston's Patches looked good early on, but Golden's Dusty recovered from giving back her wild-card ball. Dusty pulled off a four-ball run-out for a comeback win in game 1 that put her ahead 1-0 in the series. The Pilots' Dusty kept it closer from the start in game 2, but at the end the Swifts' Patches was able to strike to the top side for the win. This tied the series at 1. Dusty cruised from the start of game 3, as Patches wasn't able to execute a late comeback run before Dusty's three-ball run-out. Dusty took the series 2-1 and will face the Westside Rockers' Goatee in the second round.

Sprinkles v. Dreamy. Club-mates with Solid Core play 7-ball with the purple cue. Capital City's Sprinkles put down a few shots early, but two scratches allowed Swordpoint's Dreamy to take game 1 on a three-ball run-out. Dreamy leads the series 1-0. The Blades' Dreamy looked better early in game 2, only to let that standard fade enough for the Sharpshooters' Sprinkles to win on a 5-7 combination at the top left. This tied the series at 1. Sprinkles found good offense in game 3, but her miss on the 4 allowed Dreamy to deflect the cue off the 4 into the 7, which bounced off the 5 into the top left for the win. Dreamy's tricky finish earned her a 2-1 series win and the right to play the Archtown Arrows' Ruby in the second round.

Marissa v. Spirit. The green cue draws in for this 12-ball series. Maplewood's Marissa ran the table on the game 1 break, allowing only a wild-card ball. Lighton's Spirit had the right to respond but only made one shot, and Marissa took a 1-0 series lead with the win. The Lumberjacks' Marissa struggled in game 2 even with a wild-card ball in her favor. The Prestige's Spirit eventually finished at the bottom side for the win, tying the series at 1. Marissa hesitated just a little too long in game 3, and Spirit pulled back to win on a three-ball run-out, taking the series 2-1. Spirit will go against the Eastside Sharks' Chelsea in the second round.

Nightfur v. Avril. Along to 15-ball, as the red cue activates for the day. Royal's Nightfur had a pair of four-ball runs late in game 1, pacing her to an easy win over Pronger's Avril. Nightfur holds a 1-0 series lead. The Crowns' Nightfur missed her first attempt to finish game 2 early, but baited the Tridents' Avril into a 6-15 combination she left short at the bottom left. Nightfur then converted the same play for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Avril looked a lot better in game 3, but she ended a three-ball run with a narrow miss on the 15. Nightfur put it away at the bottom left to sweep the series 3-0, and she'll next take on the Queens Flames' Paige in the second round.

Ms. Kitty v. Yekaterina. Another 15-ball series features the blue cue. Pacific's Ms. Kitty had the better of the early offense in game 1, but she scratched as she made the 13. Victoria's Yekaterina made the final pair for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Spurs' Yekaterina didn't double-down in game 2, as the Volcanoes' Ms. Kitty flexed her offense with a late six-ball run. Ms. Kitty also added the final pair for the win to tie the series at 1. Ms. Kitty continued to attack fearlessly in game 3, ripping a five-ball run in the middle and a three-ball run-out to beat Yekaterina 2-1 in the series. Ms. Kitty punched her ticket to the second round.

Quincy v. Sydney C. The silver cue cycles in for Rotation. Modernistic's Sydney C. looked vastly unprepared in game 1, while Terrace City's Quincy controlled play and won 8-1 for a 1-0 series lead. The Union's Sydney C. improved in game 2, but she wasn't able to close it out. The Knights' Quincy rallied back on a four-ball run-out to take the 8-6 win, securing the series in his favor at 2-0. Sydney C. couldn't get a consolation game 3, as Quincy roared to an 8-5 win at the end with another rally. Quincy swept the series 3-0 and will face the Southern Monarchs' Panda in the second round.

Sally v. Dani. The purple cue is on in 9-ball. Archtown's Sally opened game 1 on a three-ball run, but her miss on the 2 allowed Viewpoint Sound's Dani to win two shots later on a 4-9 combination to the bottom left. Dani owns a 1-0 series lead. The Meteors' Dani was no slouch in game 2, but a hard cut on the 7 to the bottom right turned into a game-winning double-pot for the Arrows' Sally as the carom collected the 9 to the top left. Sally's impressive finish tied the series at 1. Dani kept the offense high in game 3, but scratched after a late three-ball run. Sally picked up the 9 from ball-in-hand this time, taking the series 2-1 with the win. Sally is set to oppose the Pearl Surfers' Victoria in the second round.

Chelsea v. Ms. Puppy. Respected veterans tangle in 9-ball with the green cue. Eastside's Chelsea made three balls on the break in game 1 and added a five-ball run-out on her second turn, dominating Modernistic's Ms. Puppy to take a 1-0 series lead. The Sharks' Chelsea had an empty break in game 2, then followed it up with runs of five and four balls while the Union's Ms. Puppy flailed helplessly. Chelsea's blistering pace secured the series in her favor at 2-0. Chelsea let up a little early in game 3, then fired back on a four-ball run-out to complete the 3-0 sweep over Ms. Puppy. Chelsea will face the Everton Eagles' Blizzard in the second round.

Patches v. Gradley. Boston Swifts legends clash in Accuracy with the red cue. Gradley had a slight edge in game 1 until the end, when two late misses turned the game into a 3-4 win for Patches, who leads the series 1-0. Patches played a little better in game 2, staying perfect until late. Gradley didn't capitalize at the end, missing a pair of shots to give Patches a 1-3 win that sealed the series at 2-0. Patches and Gradley played evenly throughout game 3, but Gradley sportingly took the loss at the end as Patches won 2-3 and swept the series 3-0. Patches heads to the second round versus the Pronger Tridents' Zach.

Spice v. Fuchsia. Back in 7-ball, the blue cue returns to action. Victoria's Spice made a three-ball run to start, which Infinity's Fuchsia matched in game 1. Spice then poked the 7 to the bottom right for the win and 1-0 series lead. Offense was a little tougher to find in game 2, but the Spurs' Spice found a 2-5 combination as a decoy to deflect the 7 to the top left for the win. Spice beat the Torpedoes' Fuchsia on a stunning shot and clinched the series at 2-0. Spice made a pair on the break in game 3 and a three-ball run-out on her next turn to finish with a win and 3-0 series sweep over Fuchsia. Spice faces Cubby of the Eastside Sharks in the second round.

Sprinkles v. Andrew. The designated host plays her second series today in 13-ball with the silver cue. It took her some time to execute, but Capital City's Sprinkles eventually beat Freedom's Andrew in game 1 with a four-ball run-out she set up very carefully. Sprinkles leads the series 1-0. The Sharpshooters' Sprinkles struggled with contact plays in game 2, leading to the Cascades' Andrew getting easier shots from ball-in-hand. Andrew finished with a three-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Andrew and Sprinkles each had awkward moments in game 3, but Sprinkles' missed kick on the 8 was the worst. Andrew made the next pair for the win and took the series 2-1 in a comeback. Andrew will face Midland Predators sophomore Kitty in the second round.

Twinkie III v. Patches. The designated visitor gets a third series, using the purple cue in 8-ball. Boston's Patches looked quite good after a first-turn seven-ball run, but she missed the 8 twice. Whitewater's Twinkie III had a three-ball run and a five-ball run-out to get the win for a 1-0 series lead. The pace of game 2 was much slower, and that almost favored the Swifts' Patches as she pushed for a late surge. Instead, the Shores' Twinkie III made a three-ball run-out for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Twinkie III surged again at the start of game 3, and Patches' comeback run was too slow. Twinkie III sank the 8 to the top left for the 3-0 series sweep that sets her up to play the Pearl Surfers' Neopolitan in the second round.

Dusty v. Spirit. For the second time this round, these two legends meet, playing Accuracy with the green cue. Eastside's Dusty suffered a scratch on the break in game 1, and never recovered from it. Lighton's Spirit played hardball to earn a 1-3 win for the 1-0 series lead. The Prestige's Spirit wasn't as crisp in game 2, while the Sharks' Dusty stepped up her game to reverse the previous result. Dusty won 1-3 this time, tying the series at 1. Dusty stayed in form quite well in game 3, playing perfectly to claim a 0-2 win and 2-1 series win over Spirit. Dusty heads into the second round against Reality club-mate and Whitewater Shores veteran Bear.

Shadow v. Ruby. Strong veterans battle in 15-ball with the red cue. Web City's Shadow had the better offense in game 1, especially as he made five of the last six balls to beat Archtown's Ruby. Shadow leads the series 1-0. The Spiders' Shadow looked poised for a similar push in game 2, but he missed the 13 narrowly at the top left. This allowed the Arrows' Ruby to sink the final pair for the win, tying the series at 1. Ruby had a massive seven-ball run over the back half of game 3, but she just missed the 15 at the top left. Shadow made a tap-in, poaching the win and 2-1 series win as he will face the Westside Rockers' Chimpy in the second round.

Goldy v. Violetta. Another premier matchup features the blue cue in 9-ball. Everton's Goldy struggled to get her shot going, and Queens' Violetta wasn't great at first but recovered late to get the win with four of the last five balls. Violetta owns a 1-0 series lead. The Flames' Violetta started a little slow in game 2, but the Eagles' Goldy offered no challenge. Violetta then ripped a six-ball run-out for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Goldy got a little redemption in a slow game 3, popping in the 9 to the top left on her second try to leave Violetta with a 2-1 series win. Violetta will meet the Westside Rockers' Midnight in the second round.

Slinks v. Peach. The day ends with the silver cue administering Rotation. Harrison's Slinks popped a five-ball run to start game 1, but North Modernistic's Peach answered on a six-ball run. Peach made a pair on the next turn to win 8-5 for a 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Peach wasn't as explosive on offense in game 2. The Specters' Slinks also slowed down, but picked up a three-ball run-out in the end for an 8-2 win to tie the series at 1. Another close battle early on turned into a romp for Slinks as she made a huge run for the 9-2 win in the end this time. Slinks beat Peach 2-1 in the series and will next face the Todavía Stills' Easter in the second round.

Ten-Year Anniversary Tournament - Round 1 Day 7

We resume first-round action today, beginning with...

Leonardo v. Panda. The blue cue gets the first look today with Accuracy. Diamond's Leonardo couldn't settle down late in game 1, and Southern's Panda was sturdy to take a 1-3 win for the 1-0 series lead. The Monarchs' Panda had a tougher time in game 2, failing to hold onto his lead late. The Gems' Leonardo was steady to force overtime, where Panda missed on the break. Leonardo won 2-3 and tied the series at 1. Panda never had any control in game 3, and Leonardo won by a 1-6 margin to take the series 2-1. Leonardo will act as host to his mate, the Infinity Torpedoes captain Smudge, in the second round.

Cheddar v. Stinky. The silver cue is up for a 12-ball set. North Modernistic's Cheddar gave away a wild-card ball early in game 1, and it would hurt her in a close finish that saw Freedom's Stinky just get the edge at the bottom right. Stinky leads the series 1-0. The Cascades' Stinky had a strong start in game 2, and then again received a wild-card ball from the Nighthawks' Cheddar. Stinky had no trouble closing out this win, sealing the series at 2-0. Stinky yielded a pair of wild-card balls quickly in game 3, and Cheddar needed just two turns to clean up the rest of her stripes. Stinky settled for a 2-1 series win to pit him against the Viewpoint Sound Meteors' Frosty in the second round.

Valencia v. Shiny. In Rotation, the purple cue gets its first look of the day. Golden's Valencia enjoyed a hot start to game 1, but Lighton's Shiny made it incredibly close. Valencia didn't disappoint the home fans as she earned an 8-7 win to go ahead 1-0 in the series. The Prestige's Shiny notched a five-ball run in an otherwise ugly game 2, but that left her just short of the mark. The Pilots' Valencia replied on a three-ball run-out for the 8-7 win to clinch the series at 2-0. Shiny wasn't quite able to snag a win in game 3, as Valencia did just enough to grab the 8-6 win for a 3-0 series sweep. Valencia will face her mother, the Whitewater Shores' Shaggy, in the second round.

Nicole v. Goldy. Along to 15-ball as the green cue activates. Pearl's Nicole had some good moments in game 1, but couldn't settle down enough at the end. Everton's Goldy picked off a three-ball run-out for the 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Nicole went all-in on an 8-15 combination to the top right, then left it just outside the pocket. The Eagles' Goldy deflected off the 8 to push in the 9-15 combination for the win, securing the series at 2-0. Goldy had a seven-ball run and added a pair on the next turn, but Nicole made the final pair to get a win. Goldy took the series 2-1 and will play host to Cheddar in the second round.

Strut v. Hoot. Established veterans clash in 15-ball with the red cue. Golden's Strut looked good at times in game 1, but a three-ball run ended with a miss on the 10. Viewpoint Sound's Hoot took over and made a five-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Pilots' Strut had a four-ball run after the midpoint of game 2, but the Meteors' Hoot fired back on a four-ball run-out to get the win. Hoot sealed the series at 2-0. Strut had plenty of chances to finish off game 3 positively, but he missed on the 15 late, and Hoot made it to complete the 3-0 series sweep. Hoot will act as visitor to the Tysini Hummingbirds' Sarah in the second round.

Gabe v. Citrus. The blue cue is back for this 7-ball battle. Maplewood's Gabe didn't dominate in game 1, but he was good enough to make the final pair for a win and 1-0 series lead over Diamond's Citrus. The Lumberjacks' Gabe wasn't as good in game 2, and the Gems' Citrus took advantage of that by executing a five-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Gabe held his ground in a close battle in game 3, winning with a 6-7 combination to the top side to give him the 2-1 series win over Citrus. Gabe is set to face the Queens Flames' Mario in the second round.

Rosalina v. Bryant. The silver cue draws in for a 15-ball series. Diamond's Rosalina didn't do too much early in game 1, but Maplewood's Bryant was about the same. Rosalina stepped up late on a four-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Gems' Rosalina wasn't able to get the same grip on the offense in game 2, as the Lumberjacks' Bryant rattled off a seven-ball run-out instead for the win. The series is tied at 1. Rosalina brought game 3 to an early end, sniping a 3-15 combination to the top left to deny Bryant's comeback effort. Rosalina won the series 2-1 and is set to face the Commerce Tradewinds' Lionel in the second round.

Isabella v. Niki. We've got 12-ball with the purple cue to hit the halfway mark today. Atlantic's Isabella made five solids over the first two turns of game 1, and she also yielded a pair of wild-card balls. Commerce's Niki still couldn't catch up, and Isabella took the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Pirates' Isabella had a hot start in game 2, but she was a little slower than the Tradewinds' Niki, who pulled ahead and won with a late pair. Niki's comeback win tied the series at 1. A fast pace came over game 3, which saw Niki jump out to the early lead before Isabella came all the way back with a four-ball run-out. Isabella won the series 2-1 and will face another Tradewind in Taylor S. in the second round.

Chimpy v. Strawberry. The green cue is set to play in 9-ball. Modernistic's Chimpy had a seven-ball run to start game 1, but his miss on the 8 allowed Victoria's Strawberry to win with the final pair for a 1-0 series lead. The Spurs' Strawberry failed to establish much pace in game 2. The Union's Chimpy took over late with a four-ball run before he made the 9 on his next turn. The series is tied at 1. Strawberry searched for offense with a three-ball run late, but left the 9 at the bottom left, where Chimpy made it on a tap-in. Chimpy won the series 2-1 and is set to oppose the Web City Spiders' Waluigi in the second round.

Kitty v. Sierra. Energetic opponents meet in 7-ball with the red cue. Todavía's Sierra had a three-ball run in game 1, but couldn't kick in the 7 when the chance presented itself. Midland's Kitty followed up her three-ball run with a free shot on the 7 at the top left for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Stills' Sierra couldn't get anything with cut shots, but she ended up with a free win in game 2 when the Predators' Kitty scratched after she made the 7. The series is somehow tied at 1. Tempers flared in game 3 as shooting accuracy fell apart. Sierra ultimately poked the 7 to the top right to win the game and the 2-1 series over Kitty. Sierra will need to be better versus the Golden Pilots' Dusty in the second round.

Snowball v. Valencia. A second series for the designated visitor uses the blue cue in Accuracy. Golden's Valencia had a lead in game 1 until the last ball of regulation. She fell into a tie, and Swordpoint's Snowball finished off a 1-2 win in overtime for the 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Snowball tried a similar strategy in game 2, but scratched late. The Pilots' Valencia didn't let this lead slip away, grabbing a 1-2 win to tie the series at 1. Valencia didn't come close to putting up a fight in game 3, as Snowball easily won by a 1-6 score for the 2-1 series win. Snowball has hosting rights versus the Southridge Defenders' Bianca in the second round.

Greg v. Dominic. On to 13-ball, where the silver cue exits the day. Archtown's Greg held the lead for most of game 1 until his late scratch. Southern's Dominic took over and held Greg back before striking for the win, which put Dominic ahead 1-0 in the series. The Monarchs' Dominic took solids on the break and remained efficient after that. He blocked a lot of plays for the Arrows' Greg, allowing Dominic to cruise to the win and 2-0 series lead. Dominic made one of each on the break, but continued to use smothering defense to cut off Greg. Dominic went unchallenged for the win to sweep the series 3-0 and earn the right to face the Pearl Surfers' Watermelon in the second round.

Precious v. Rainmane. The top series of the day will use the purple cue in Accuracy. Pronger's Precious saw a great start to game 1 wiped out very quickly at the end as she hit a terrible skid. Web City's Rainmane stepped up for the 2-4 win and 1-0 series lead. The Tridents' Precious again fell apart late in game 2, and the Spiders' Rainmane was able to force overtime. Rainmane won 2-3 on the first turn of the extra rack, which helped her clinch the series at 2-0. Precious had the game tied late in game 3, but Rainmane was able to scrape out a 1-2 win in the end to sweep the series 3-0. Rainmane lines up with Chimpy in the second round.

Puff III v. Charli. More Accuracy follows, with the green cue in hand. Everton's Puff III couldn't quite maintain the lead in regulation of game 1, but she won two turns into overtime when Tysini's Charli missed a shot. Puff III won 2-3 for a 1-0 series lead. The Hummingbirds' Charli accelerated her attack in game 2, playing perfectly to nab a 0-2 win off of the Eagles' Puff III. The series is tied at 1. Puff III looked good initially in game 3, but slipped up when it was tied. Charli showed no mercy in her 1-3 win to take the series 2-1. Charli is through to the second round.

Patches v. Sunshine. A superstar and a rookie battle in 15-ball with the red cue. Royal's Sunshine looked good over multiple stretches in game 1, showing no difficulty in potting a four-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead over Boston's Patches. The Swifts' Patches held no punches in game 2, firing off crazy shots and ultimately getting the win on a 4-14-15 combination to the bottom left. The Crowns' Sunshine could only watch as Patches tied the series at 1. Nothing moved quickly in game 3, leading to Patches putting extra pace on her shots. This mostly backfired until the end, when she slammed the 15 to the top left to get the win and 2-1 series win over Sunshine. Patches heads to the second round.

Diddley v. Nightfur. Experienced captains clash in Rotation with the blue cue to end the day. Maplewood's Diddley found a little more success on offense in game 1, pacing him to an 8-3 win over Royal's Nightfur. Diddley leads the series 1-0. The Crowns' Nightfur rallied back with a vengeance in game 2, making eight straight shots on her second turn to claim an 8-0 win over the Lumberjacks' Diddley. This tied the series at 1. Game 3 started slow until Diddley beat Nightfur with a five-ball run-out for the 8-3 win. Diddley took the series 2-1 and will play in the second round against the Royal Crowns' Brownie.

Ten-Year Anniversary Tournament - Round 1 Day 6

Another batch of series is set to play today, beginning with...

Rainmane v. Sunshine. The red cue opens the day in Rotation. Midland's Rainmane battled closely in game 1, pulling ahead late and ultimately taking an 8-7 win after Royal's Sunshine couldn't convert the 15. Rainmane leads the series 1-0. The Crowns' Sunshine stepped up his offense in game 2, finding clever double-pots and a surge early on to pace himself to an 8-3 win, tying the series at 1 versus the Predators' Rainmane. In game 3, Rainmane had one early push, but couldn't fend off Sunshine's 8-4 win that came on a late surge. Sunshine won the series 2-1, upsetting the two-time event champion to push his way into the second round versus the Oceanside Waves' Snuggle.

Dustin v. Ms. Kitty. The blue cue also takes a spin in Rotation for the second series. Central's Dustin had a decent start, but dramatically slowed down in the middle. Pacific's Ms. Kitty was a little more productive, taking a choppy 8-6 win for the 1-0 series lead after game 1. The Warriors' Dustin needed a big comeback in game 2 and couldn't find it, as the Volcanoes' Ms. Kitty prevailed 8-5 with plenty of odd deflections going in her favor. Ms. Kitty clinched the series at 2-0 with this win. Dustin couldn't salvage anything from game 3, once again watching Ms. Kitty take an 8-5 win to complete her sweep at 3-0. Ms. Kitty will play in the second round.

Neopolitan v. Cheddar. In 15-ball, the silver cue activates for the day. Pearl's Neopolitan struggled to find her offense in game 1, and Whitewater's Cheddar capitalized by making a five-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Neopolitan made a modest improvement in game 2, but couldn't get herself back on track at the end. The Shores' Cheddar just clipped in the 15 at the top right for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Neopolitan had most of the offense in game 3, but her late three-ball run ended with a miss on the 15. Cheddar buried it to the top right to finish a 3-0 series sweep that gets her into the second round.

Stripes v. Smudge. Tough veterans clash in Accuracy with the purple cue. Freedom's Stripes was strong in game 1, but a couple of misses were enough for Infinity's Smudge to grab a 0-2 lead and hang on for the win. Smudge leads the series 1-0. The Torpedoes' Smudge scratched on the break in game 2 and missed again early, while the Cascades' Stripes had just one late miss in her 1-2 win to tie the series at 1. Stripes made a ball on the break in game 3, but faded quickly after that. Smudge was virtually unchallenged in taking a 2-4 win to earn the 2-1 series win and a place in the second round.

Lorde v. Missy. Current teammates face off in 9-ball with the green cue. Commerce's Lorde put up a five-ball run in the middle of game 1, but missed on the 8. Capital City's Missy then made the final pair for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Sharpshooters' Missy opened game 2 with a pair of three-ball runs, but she missed a bank on the 6 to the top side. The Tradewinds' Lorde took over and made a three-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Lorde wasn't bad to start game 3, but Missy dominated the finish on a six-ball run-out to take the series 2-1. Missy will face Reality club-mate and Harrison Specters captain Twinkie II in the second round.

Kyle v. Easter. The red cue cycles in for 7-ball. Queens' Kyle made a five-ball run on his second turn in game 1, but twice missed the 6 before Todavía's Easter made the final pair for the win. Easter leads the series 1-0. The Stills' Easter made a pair on the break in game 2, but couldn't strike again. The Flames' Kyle potted the last five balls over two turns for a win, tying the series at 1. Kyle made an early pair in game 3, but Easter closed him out with a five-ball run-out to give her the win and 2-1 series win. Easter will act as host versus Coastal rival and Pacific Volcanoes veteran Leonette in the second round.

Chelsea v. Precious. Longtime Eastern Hills rivals clash in 12-ball with the blue cue. Eastside's Chelsea had good positioning and defense, but Pronger's Precious ran right through it and beat Chelsea to the finish for the win. Precious' aggressive style earned her a 1-0 series lead in this 2016 championship rematch. The Tridents' Precious enjoyed plenty of early offense in game 2, but she was a step too slow in finishing. The Sharks' Chelsea was right there with her, and struck an impressive sequence on solids before making the winning shot at the bottom right to tie the series at 1. Chelsea had a scratch in the middle of game 3, but it didn't stop her from getting better positioning to beat Precious at the end. Chelsea's win gave her a 2-1 series win and a trip to the second round.

Sarah v. Shannon. Underrated opponents battle in 15-ball with the silver cue. Tysini's Sarah made some questionable shot selections in game 1, and that often led to turnovers of possession. Southern's Shannon played better and earned a win for a 1-0 series lead. The Hummingbirds' Sarah stabilized herself offensively in game 2, leading to a closer battle. The Monarchs' Shannon faded a bit late, and Sarah made the final pair for the win, tying the series at 1. Shannon had plenty of early offense in game 3, but again lost control later on. Sarah used a four-ball run to get momentum, then struck in the winning shot to the top side to take the series 2-1. Sarah is off to the second round.

Snowball v. Mams. Along to 10-ball, which is played with the purple cue. Southern's Mams clobbered a five-ball run early in game 1, but her offense was weak after that. Swordpoint's Snowball answered on a three-ball run-out, banking the 10 to the bottom right for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Snowball picked up a ball on the game 2 break, but the Monarchs' Mams handled the rest with a five-ball run and a three-ball run-out for the win. This tied the series at 1. Snowball had her best attack with a five-ball run in game 3, only to foul and allow Mams to make the final pair. Mams won the series 2-1 and lines up to play host to the Royal Crowns' Nightfur in the second round.

Paige v. Neopolitan. The designated visitor gets a second series today in 8-ball with the green cue. Queens' Paige had her fair share of offense in game 1, but couldn't settle down after a scratch. Pearl's Neopolitan was there to sink the final pair for the win and 1-0 lead in the series. The Surfers' Neopolitan had a fine start in game 2, but she wasn't able to finish it off. The Flames' Paige made six balls over her last two turns for the win, pulling even at 1 game apiece in the series. Paige dominated outright in game 3, but took too long on the 8 and scratched as she banked it into the bottom side. This gifted a win and the 2-1 series win to Neopolitan, who moves on to the second round.

Crystal v. Tigerette. The top series of the day uses the red cue for 10-ball. Commerce's Tigerette didn't get many chances for offense in game 1. Queens' Crystal locked in the win with a five-ball run-out, featuring an 8-9 kick combination to the top side for a clutch play. Crystal owns a 1-0 series lead. The Tradewinds' Tigerette missed the 8 after posting a three-ball run late in game 2. The Flames' Crystal looked ready to strike, but failed on the 10, and Tigerette kicked it in for the win to tie the series at 1. Tigerette capitalized again at the end of game 3, making a three-ball run-out after Crystal couldn't do anything on the 8. Tigerette won the series 2-1, and the three-time medalist will face the Oceanside Waves' Dewey in the second round.

Midnight v. Princess. The blue cue returns with this 9-ball battle. Neither player gained control of game 1 quickly, which led to Westside's Midnight winning on a pair at the end after Tysini's Princess missed on the 8. Midnight leads the series 1-0. The Hummingbirds' Princess got a chance on the 9 in game 2, but couldn't send it home, and the Rockers' Midnight pulled off a two-rail kick to put it away at the top left for the win. Midnight secured the series at 2-0 in the process. Princess had little motivation to play out game 3, and Midnight controlled the offense again, winning with the final pair for the 3-0 series sweep. Midnight is through to the second round.

Gradley v. Shiny. The silver cue completes its day in 8-ball. Boston's Gradley couldn't get anything going, as Web City's Shiny survived a scratch and recovered on a five-ball run-out for the game 1 win. Shiny leads the series 1-0. The Swifts' Gradley opened on a five-ball run in game 2, then scratched. The Spiders' Shiny fought back with a late four-ball run, but she came up short as Gradley took the win and tied the series at 1. Gradley kept his momentum up early in game 3, and finished with a three-ball run-out as Shiny's offense faltered. Gradley got the 2-1 series win and the right to play host to the Eastisde Sharks' Taylor S. in the second round.

Shaggy v. Fuchsia. The purple cue is done after a Rotation set. Whitewater's Shaggy used a pair of three-ball runs in game 1, one to establish a lead and the other to beat Infinity's Fuchsia by an 8-3 score. Shaggy holds a 1-0 series lead. The Shores' Shaggy used a five-ball run to build a quick lead in game 2, but struggled to support it. The Torpedoes' Fuchsia raced to the 8-7 win at the end with her five-ball run-out, tying the series at 1 as well. Shaggy looked a little lost early in game 3, but Fuchsia didn't secure the lead very well. Shaggy then surged on a seven-ball run-out for an 8-3 win and 2-1 series win. Shaggy punched her ticket to the second round.

Hoppy v. Sage. A burgeoning rivalry is renewed in 7-ball with the green cue. Archtown's Hoppy sank the 7 and scratched on the game 1 break, gifting the win and 1-0 series lead to Victoria's Sage. The Spurs' Sage didn't allow the Arrows' Hoppy a shot in game 2. Sage made a ball on the break, then used the 2 in combination with the 5 and 7 to cap off a four-ball run-out from the break. Sage sealed the series at 2-0. Sage fouled after a three-ball run in game 3, allowing Hoppy to make a three-ball run-out for the win. Sage still won the series 2-1, getting revenge and moving into the second round all at once.

Snowball v. Graham. Closing the day, the red cue plays 7-ball. Swordpoint's Snowball couldn't lock it in after a five-ball run, but she made her second try on the 7 at the bottom left after a bad bank attempt by Eastside's Graham. Snowball leads the series 1-0. Two pairs of shots were enough to lift the Blades' Snowball over a three-ball run from the Sharks' Graham in game 2. Snowball's strong finish secured the series for her at 2-0. Snowball hit a fantastic break in game 3, getting the 7 to carom to the top right as she swept Graham 3-0 in the series. Snowball will face Southwestern rival Sage in the second round.

Ten-Year Anniversary Tournament - Round 1 Day 5

We're back for the middle day of the opening round, leading off with...

Andrew v. Snuggle. The green cue gets the first look today, playing Rotation. Freedom's Andrew had a positive start to game 1, but Oceanside's Snuggle wrestled away control to take an 8-5 win for the 1-0 series lead. The Waves' Snuggle opened game 2 on a five-ball run before cooling off. The Cascades' Andrew pulled even late, but Snuggle made the next pair of shots for the 8-6 win to seal the series at 2-0. Andrew again jumped out to a lead in game 3, only for Snuggle to make eight balls over three turns for an 8-6 win again. Snuggle swept the series 3-0 to move into the second round.

Twinkie II v. Summer. Northeastern rivals meet in Accuracy with the red cue. Harrison's Twinkie II had a great start to game 1, but she fell apart completely at the end to allow Maplewood's Summer to grab a 2-4 win. Summer leads the series 1-0. The Specters' Twinkie II didn't do well early in game 2, but stayed close enough to force overtime. The Lumberjacks' Summer scratched on the overtime break, and Twinkie II won 3-4 to tie the series at 1. Game 3 had a similar start to the opener, with Summer missing twice in the middle. Twinkie II didn't fade this time, holding on for a 1-2 win and 2-1 series win. Twinkie II will act as host to the Southern Monarchs' Shannon in the second round.

Dreamy v. Wings. Back in Rotation, the blue cue gets the call. Swordpoint's Dreamy opened on a three-ball run and showed little mercy after that, beating Pearl's Wings by an 8-1 score for the 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Wings did better at the start of game 2, but a massive comeback allowed the Blades' Dreamy to clinch the series at 2-0 with an 8-5 win. Wings came out firing with a four-ball run in game 3. Dreamy got close, but Wings made his next four balls over two turns for an 8-3 win. Dreamy settled for a 2-1 series win to earn the visiting role versus the Boston Swifts' Sweetheart in the second round.

Juno v. Nightfur. Brute Force's toughest clash in 10-ball with the silver cue. Stonebridge's Juno made three balls on the break in game 1, then struggled afterwards as Royal's Nightfur established her offense and won with a pair. Nightfur holds a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 started with a back-and-forth tint to play before the Crowns' Nightfur smashed a four-ball run-out for the win to seal the series at 2-0 over the Wolves' Juno. Nightfur weathered an early four-ball run from Juno in game 3, then fired back with a three-ball run-out at the end to grab the 3-0 series sweep. Nightfur is off to the second round.

Easter v. Fluffina. The purple cue draws in for Rotation. Todavía's Easter began game 1 with a five-ball run, damage that Maplewood's Fluffina failed to cover. Easter wound up with an 8-4 win to earn the 1-0 series lead. The Lumberjacks' Fluffina struck first in game 2, but this lead didn't hold up later, as the Stills' Easter pulled even just after the midpoint. Easter than pulled away with an 8-5 win to secure the series at 2-0. Fluffina led for much of game 3, but couldn't quite hold on at the end, as Easter poked down the last ball for an 8-7 win to complete a 3-0 series sweep. Easter heads to the second round.

Twilight v. Fluffina. The visitor completes a doubleheader while using the green cue in 8-ball. Central's Twilight fired off some offense early in game 1, but Maplewood's Fluffina held just enough defense at the end to transition to a three-ball run-out for the win. Fluffina has a 1-0 series lead. The Warriors' Twilight nearly had game 2, but her three-ball run ended with a bad miss on the 8 at the top left. The Lumberjacks' Fluffina put it away for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Fluffina couldn't complete the sweep, as Twilight finished strong in game 3 to make it a 2-1 series. Fluffina will see the Terrace City Knights' Oreo in the second round.

Chimpy v. Gradley. The red cue cycles in here for 15-ball. Westside's Chimpy weathered a fiery start from Boston's Gradley in game 1. Chimpy then double-potted the 11 and 15 to the right corners to get the win, going ahead 1-0 in the series. The Swifts' Gradley took a step back in game 2, but it took time for the Rockers' Chimpy to attack. When he did, Chimpy made 11 balls over three turns for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Chimpy made a triple-pot when he sank the 4-6-14 combination to the bottom left, sending the 6 on a follow and the 4 to the top side on the deflection. Gradley then replied with a pair of three-ball runs for the win. Chimpy settled for a 2-1 series win to get into the second round.

Dani v. Nicole. Friends and veterans meet in 13-ball with the blue cue. Lighton's Nicole did well with solids, but couldn't line up her last ball before Viewpoint Sound's Dani made a final pair for the win. Dani has a 1-0 series lead. The Prestige's Nicole made her route very obvious in game 2, and still nearly completed the effort. The Meteors' Dani cut her off just in time with a three-ball run-out for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Nicole fought hard to keep things close in game 3, but she missed badly on the 8, and Dani sent it to the bottom right to finish her 3-0 series sweep. Dani will play in the second round.

Kodiak v. Sarah. The second half of the round starts with the silver cue in 13-ball. Modernistic's Kodiak needed more time for positioning in game 1, but Tysini's Sarah didn't oblige. A bank of the 10 to the bottom right opened her three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Hummingbirds' Sarah made two stripes and a solid on the game 2 break and elected to play stripes. The Union's Kodiak was again a little too slow, as Sarah's efficient style earned her another win to clinch the series at 2-0. Kodiak started well on solids but never found a second wind in game 3. Sarah pulled ahead in the middle and worked her way to a win to finish the 3-0 series sweep that sent her to the second round.

Acorn v. Misty. A longstanding friendship sees the purple cue activate for 12-ball. Lighton's Acorn found a way to survive after making two of each on the game 1 break. Westside's Misty fouled late in game 1 to give back one wild-card ball, and Acorn kicked in his last shot at the top right to get the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Prestige's Acorn carved up a four-ball run on the opening turn of game 2, then added the last pair on bank shots as the Rockers' Misty was left stunned. Acorn sealed the series at 2-0. Acorn seemed to have control early in game 3, but a faster than expected effort from Misty allowed her to snag a win. Acorn advanced to the second round on a 2-1 series win, and he'll face the Oceanside Waves' Celestia next.

Melissa v. Bianca. Back in 13-ball, the green cue gets another turn. Terrace City's Melissa made one of each on the game 1 break, allowing her to choose solids and play relentless defense. Southridge's Bianca got more offense given to her by Melissa than that she made herself, as Melissa cruised to the win and 1-0 series lead. The Knights' Melissa couldn't dominate the same way in game 2, as it was a close battle that came down to the top right. The Defenders' Bianca struck her last ball there and then made the 8 on her first try for the win, tying the series at 1. Bianca did everything she could to line herself up in game 3, but she was a turn too slow, as Melissa made her final pair of shots just in time for the win to take the series 2-1. Melissa will face the Viewpoint Sound Meteors' Dani in the second round.

Watermelon v. Hannah B. The red cue will play this 8-ball series. Queens' Hannah had just a bit more pace in game 1, while Pearl's Watermelon couldn't find a late run to help her attack. Hannah took the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Watermelon had an uptick in the pace of play in game 2, combined with a slight regression for the Flames' Hannah. Watermelon was able to get the edge late and earn the win, tying the series at 1. Watermelon had all the early offense in game 3, but suffered a late scratch. Hannah capitalized on that and took the win late, advancing to face Lionel in the second round after her 2-1 series win.

Precious v. Puff II. It's 10-ball time with the blue cue. In a fast-paced game 1, Pronger's Precious was able to bank the 10 to the top side for the win and 1-0 series lead over Boston's Puff II. The Tridents' Precious wasn't able to lock it down in game 2, missing the 9 badly at the top left. The Swifts' Puff II made the last two shots to get the win, tying the series at 1. A back-and-forth theme emerged in game 3, which saw both players make a late pair. In the end, Puff II cleaned up the 10 at the bottom left when Precious missed it. Puff II won the series 2-1 and will act as visitor to the Pearl Surfers' Neopolitan in the second round.

Megan v. Shiny. Another 13-ball series features the silver cue. Oceanside's Megan overfilled the top left on the break in game 1. Lighton's Shiny would quickly gain the lead, and a smooth play on the 8 at the bottom right gave Shiny the win and 1-0 lead in the series. The Waves' Megan started better in game 2, but couldn't sustain the offense late, and the Prestige's Shiny picked off a late pair to earn the win again. Shiny secured the series at 2-0. Shiny had a good start in game 3, but a scratch slowed her down. Megan blew by with a three-ball run-out for the win. Shiny won the series 2-1 and will face the Golden Pilots' Strut in the second round.

Wings v. Spice. The host's second series today comes with the purple cue in 15-ball. Pearl's Wings flashed an eight-ball run over the middle of game 1 and still needed luck and Victoria's Spice to scratch late. Wings then put the 15 in the top left for a 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Wings still moved the offense pretty heavily in game 2, but he slowed near the end. The Spurs' Spice ultimately made the last pair for the win, tying the series at 1. Wings faltered in the middle of game 3 after a decent start, as his scratch allowed Spice to make the 8-15 combination to the top right from ball-in-hand. Spice took the series 2-1 and will oppose Kiwi in the second round.

Crystal v. Midnight. Tough opponents close the day in 8-ball with the green cue. Queens' Crystal had an empty break, then made a five-ball run and a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead over Westside's Midnight. The Flames' Crystal employed a similar strategy in a close game 2, making a four-ball run and a three-ball run. The Rockers' Midnight couldn't sink her last ball before Crystal put the 8 in the top left to secure the series at 2-0. Both players made six balls through their first two turns, but Crystal had first dibs at the final pair, which she made. Crystal swept Midnight 3-0 and will next pay a visiting role to Smokey in the second round.

Ten-Year Anniversary Tournament - Round 1 Day 4

Today's action will bring us near halfway through the first round. We lead off with...

Anton v. Mario. The purple cue opens the day in 7-ball. A back-and-forth game 1 saw Queens' Mario get a good look at the 7, but he scratched as he made it to gift the win and 1-0 series lead to Todavía's Anton. The Stills' Anton pressed on a three-ball run late in game 2, but missed on the 7. The Flames' Mario was there to bury it cleanly this time, tying the series at 1 with his win. Mario stayed strong in a close game 3, beating Anton with a three-ball run-out. Mario's 2-1 series win puts him in the second round.

Brownie v. Mr. Snowman. Well-traveled players clash with the green cue in Rotation. Infinity's Mr. Snowman built his lead in the middle of game 1, then weathered a counterattack from Royal's Brownie. Mr. Snowman won 8-5 to earn a 1-0 series lead. The Crowns' Brownie established her game 2 lead quickly, although the Torpedoes' Mr. Snowman put up a good fight in the middle. Brownie closed off an 8-4 victory with her three-ball run-out, tying the series at 1. Brownie showed no mercy to Mr. Snowman in game 3, shutting him out 8-0 for a 2-1 series win. Brownie will head to the second round.

Delila v. Isabella. Teammates meet in 13-ball using the red cue. Isabella had a good look in game 1, but wasted positive positioning as her Atlantic teammate and captain Delila struck back for a pair at the end. Delila won the game for a 1-0 series lead. Isabella again made a strong push at the start of game 2, but Delila bounced back fine with a patient finish for the win. Delila sealed the series at 2-0. Delila had to fend off a strong attack from Isabella in a close game 3, but Delila was good enough to win at the top left for the 3-0 series sweep. Delila will play in the second round against the Tysini Hummingbirds' Sugar.

Ruby v. Shannon. The blue cue draws into action for Accuracy. Todavía's Ruby couldn't get a grip on the lead for much of game 1, and Southern's Shannon was able to sneak away on a 2-3 win for the 1-0 series lead. The Monarchs' Shannon hit a hard skid in game 2, and the Stills' Ruby punished it thoroughly in a 1-4 win to tie the series at 1. A back-and-forth battle in game 3 saw momentum swing to Shannon late as she took a 4-5 win over Ruby to advance to the second round on a 2-1 series win.

Bryant v. Lorde. Another Accuracy series features the silver cue. Capital City's Lorde walked a fine line at the end of game 1, forcing overtime. Maplewood's Bryant missed on the overtime break, and Lorde converted for a 2-3 win to go up 1-0 in the series. Roles reversed in game 2, as the Sharpshooters' Lorde fell off late to drop into a tie. The Lumberjacks' Bryant made the winning shot in overtime this time, taking a 4-5 result to tie the series at 1. Bryant managed to avoid overtime in game 3, holding a high standard to beat Lorde 1-2 in the end. Bryant won the series 2-1 to get into the second round.

Acorn v. Marsell. The purple cue gets in for 10-ball here. Lighton's Acorn impressed on a four-ball run in game 1, but Whitewater's Marsell made the final pair for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Shores' Marsell wanted to keep his offense strong, sinking a five-ball run in game 2. The Prestige's Acorn cut him off at the end with a three-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Marsell struck early in game 3, converting a 4-10 combination to the top left after Acorn aligned it by missing on the 2. Marsell won the series 2-1 and moved on to the second round.

Boots v. Avril. Another 10-ball series uses the green cue. Sloppiness on both sides slowed down game 1, but it was Pronger's Avril who made a 5-10 combination to the top left to get the win and 1-0 series lead over Southridge's Boots. The Defenders' Boots made a six-ball run over the middle of game 2, but that wasn't enough after her miss on the 9. The Tridents' Avril picked up the final pair for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Avril dominated again in game 3, making the last six balls over two turns for the win and 3-0 series sweep over Boots. Avril will play visitor to the Freedom Cascades' Roxy in the second round.

Noelle v. Hershey. Halfway through the day, we have 7-ball with the red cue. Central's Noelle paced the offense in game 1, while Stonebridge's Hershey was less-than-sharp with his shots. Noelle made a pair at the end for the 1-0 series lead. The Wolves' Hershey never got a shot in game 2, as the Warriors' Noelle rattled off a three-ball run-out capped by a 3-7 combination to the top left. Noelle secured the series at 2-0. Noelle eased off in game 3, allowing Hershey to pace the offense and eventually earn the win. Noelle's 2-1 series win sets her up to face the Royal Crowns' Jake in the second round.

Blizzard v. Cheddar. Along to 9-ball with the blue cue. Everton's Blizzard did okay at the start of game 1, but North Modernistic's Cheddar ripped an eight-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Cheddar nearly duplicated the effort, but a miss on the 7 derailed her. The Eagles' Blizzard got a three-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Cheddar found offense in the middle of game 3, only for Blizzard to shut it down with a three-ball run-out again to take the series 2-1. Blizzard is set to play in the second round.

Ms. Kitty v. Starlight. Volcanoes leaders clash with the silver cue in 12-ball. The veteran Ms. Kitty had the defense to hold off the captain Starlight in game 1. Ms. Kitty gambled on her own offense and fouled, leading to Starlight making a pair for the win and 1-0 series lead. Starlight yielded a wild-card ball on the game 2 break, but her positional play was strong. Ms. Kitty was slower and couldn't capitalize at the end, with Starlight making the final pair to seal the series at 2-0. Starlight took solids on the break in game 3, but looked to struggle most of the game. Ms. Kitty was no better, and Starlight found a three-ball run-out for the win and 3-0 sweep that put her in the second round.

Paige v. Mams. We've got 15-ball with the purple cue in this series. Queens' Paige did her share of offense early in game, then stepped up to beat Viewpoint Sound's Mams at the end on a four-ball run-out. Paige leads the series 1-0. The Meteors' Mams got a little lucky in game 2, as the Flames' Paige saw her momentum run out with a four-ball run. Mams scrambled to finish the game, getting a win with a tap-in at the top left to tie the series at 1. Neither player took control of the offense early in game 3. Paige prevailed late on a three-ball run-out for the 2-1 series win over Mams. Paige will play in the second round.

Kiwi v. Spirit. Former club-mates battle in 15-ball with the green cue. Game 1 saw almost nothing good happen in a slow and sloppy battle. Modernistic's Kiwi took a long time to get the 11-15 combination in the bottom left for the win and 1-0 series lead over Lighton's Spirit. Both players improved in game 2, but it was a late mistake from the Prestige's Spirit that allowed the Union's Kiwi to make the final pair of shots for the win. Kiwi secured the series at 2-0. Kiwi regressed on offense in game 3, and it looked like Spirit would also slip until she bumped the 15 into the top left partly by accident. Kiwi only had a 2-1 series win to get into the second round.

Hoot v. Noelle. The designated visitor is back to play 13-ball with the red cue. Viewpoint Sound's Hoot was cautious in game 1, and that resulted in a loss after three misses on the 8. Central's Noelle caught up late and tapped the 8 to the bottom right to go ahead 1-0 in the series. The Warriors' Noelle was good to start game 2, but the Meteors' Hoot upped his aggression. Hoot finished with a four-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Hoot started well in game 3, but couldn't get positioning on his last shot. Noelle was a little smoother at the end to pick up the win for a 2-1 series win. Noelle will play in the second round.

Oreo v. Stealth. Veterans meet with the blue cue to battle in 9-ball. Royal's Oreo made a pair on the break and then got Swordpoint's Stealth to commit an egregious foul. Oreo made the 1-9 combination to the top left to win game 1 for a 1-0 series lead. The Crowns' Oreo made a five-ball run to start game 2, then added a four-ball run-out when the Blades' Stealth missed on the 5. Oreo's dominant showing put her up 2-0 in the series. Stealth avoided total disaster in game 3, poking a kick shot on the 9 to the top left to grab away the win despite Oreo's strong offense. Oreo won the series 2-1 and will play in the second round.

Dustin v. Bianca. A 10-ball series sees the silver cue retire for the day. Southridge's Bianca had a couple of missed chances to end game 1 early, so Central's Dustin did it himself on a 3-10 combination to the top left. Dustin leads the series 1-0. The Warriors' Dustin started with pace in game 2, and punished a scratch from the Defenders' Bianca with his own six-ball run-out. Dustin's dominance clinched the series for him at 2-0. Bianca had a chance to make an impression in game 3, but faltered on the 10. Dustin tapped it to the bottom left to complete a 3-0 series sweep that carries him into the second round.

Cobalt v. Princess. Ending the day, there's 10-ball with the purple cue. Stonebridge's Cobalt found a way to a four-ball run-out at the end of game 1, giving him a 1-0 series lead over Tysini's Princess. The Wolves' Cobalt wasn't as proficient on offense in game 2, allowing the Hummingbirds' Princess to work a four-ball run-out for the win. The series is tied at 1. Cobalt couldn't find any momentum late in game 3, and his miss on the 10 made it easy for Princess to finish off with a win. Princess won the series 2-1 and will oppose Dustin in the second round.

Ten-Year Anniversary Tournament - Round 1 Day 3

The long-awaited third day of the TYAT is here, beginning with...

Ms. Kitty v. Cubby. The silver cue starts the day with a 7-ball series. Pacific's Ms. Kitty went empty on the break in game 1, and Eastside's Cubby fought back, drilling a kick on the 2 that led to the 7 deflecting into the bottom side. Cubby got the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Sharks' Cubby made a seven-ball run-out on his second turn in game 2, stunning the Volcanoes' Ms. Kitty again. Cubby sealed the series at 2-0. Cubby made the 7 to the bottom side on the break in game 3 to complete his dominant 3-0 series sweep that propelled him into the second round.

Acorn v. Blaze. A captain and a rookie duel in Rotation with the purple cue. Lighton's Acorn made a four-ball run to start, but Infinity's Blaze stayed close with a three-ball run. At the end, Acorn sealed off an 8-5 win for the 1-0 series lead. Both players left shots short in game 2, but the Prestige's Acorn suffered more from it. The Torpedoes' Blaze capitalized late to get an 8-7 win, tying the series at 1. Acorn dominated right from the start of game 3, and Blaze never got on the board. Acorn's 8-0 shutout win gave him the series 2-1 and sent him to the second round.

Twinkie I v. Jack. The next series is in 12-ball, using the green cue. Pacific's Twinkie I had one of each on the game 1 break, but failed to execute her attack on solids. Web City's Jack worked fast to win with the help of a wild-card ball, going up 1-0 in the series. The Spiders' Jack gave away a wild-card ball in game 2, but the Volcanoes' Twinkie I slipped and gave it back. Jack eventually made his shots at the side pockets for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Twinkie I received another wild-card ball in game 3 as Jack struggled to play for positioning. Twinkie I eventually made a late pair for the win, leaving Jack to advance to the second round on a 2-1 series win. Jack will be the visitor versus the Freedom Cascades' Roxy in his next series.

Lionel v. Blizzard. Along to 8-ball, as the red cue draws in for the first time. Modernistic's Lionel looked a little better in game 1 by keeping a higher pace, although Everton's Blizzard made a late push that fell short. Lionel holds a 1-0 series lead. Both players found four-ball runs early in game 2, but it was the Union's Lionel who kept pushing past that, while the Eagles' Blizzard stalled out. Lionel's stronger finish sealed the series in his favor at 2-0. Blizzard improved in game 3 to avoid the sweep, striking a run late that left Lionel to settle for his 2-1 series win. Lionel heads to the second round.

Dusty v. Sarah. Stars of different eras meet in 9-ball with the blue cue. Tysini's Sarah had an edge in possession, but Golden's Dusty was able to double-kiss the 9 into the top left for the win and 1-0 series lead at the end of game 1. The Hummingbirds' Sarah again seemed to chip in pairs at a time, only to flub her play on the 9 in game 2. The Pilots' Dusty made a tap-in at the end for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Sarah improved late in game 3, finding a run and adding the 9 on the next turn after Dusty missed a tough shot. Dusty still won the series 2-1 to earn the right to face Fuchsia in the second round.

Bianca v. Strut. Southeastern rivals clash in Accuracy with the silver cue. Southridge's Bianca had a ball on the break in game 1, but faded at the end as Golden's Strut laid claim to the win by a 2-3 margin. Strut leads the series 1-0. The Pilots' Strut scratched on the break in game 2, and then added a pair of scratches near the end to tip the win to the Defenders' Bianca. The score was 3-5 as Bianca tied the series at 1. Bianca made a ball on the break in game 3 and used positioning to stall Strut out at the end. Bianca won 1-5 and took the series 2-1 to get into the second round.

Violetta v. Princess. The best series of the day uses the purple cue in 8-ball. Queens' Violetta had a decent start, only for Tysini's Princess to unleash a seven-ball run. Princess took her time on the 8 but still won comfortably for a 1-0 series lead. Control of the offense alternated pretty evenly over the course of game 2, which saw the Flames' Violetta win with the final pair to pull even at 1 game apiece with the Hummingbirds' Princess. Violetta had an awful start to game 3, while Princess took no time at all to establish herself. Princess took an easy win again to clinch the series at 2-1, sending her to the second round.

Emily v. Goatee. A returning legend acts as host in this 12-ball series with the green cue. Swordpoint's Emily had some struggles in the middle of game 1, but bounced back in time to fend off Westside's Goatee late for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Emily yielded a wild-card ball in the middle of game 2, making it fairly easy for the Rockers' Goatee to pick up the win. Goatee had easy positioning and tied the series at 1. Emily took the lead quickly in game 3, but Goatee surrounded many pockets with defensive positioning. Goatee rallied back in a single turn, a four-ball run-out giving her the 2-1 series win to move on to the second round.

Jake v. Princess. The designated visitor gets a second series today, with the red cue in 7-ball. Royal's Jake found his way in game 1, making a four-ball run and following up with a three-ball run-out when Viewpoint Sound's Princess botched a play on the 5. Jake leads the series 1-0. The Meteors' Princess played better in game 2, but erratic combination attempts doomed her. The Crowns' Jake struck the 5-7 combination to the top right for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Jake dominated again in game 3, making a five-ball run before adding the final pair when Princess faltered again. Jake swept the series 3-0 and earned a place in the second round.

Cowzart v. Chicky Phil. Rotation is up next, with the blue cue on hand. Freedom's Cowzart jumped out to a nice lead in game 1, then found a second surge after Pacific's Chicky Phil applied pressure. Cowzart ended up winning 8-4 to earn the 1-0 series lead. The Volcanoes' Chicky Phil had a chance to taste the lead in game 2, but the Cascades' Cowzart was cruel to shut that down quickly. Cowzart then locked in late and won 8-4 again to seal the series at 2-0. Cowzart didn't find as much success in game 3, as Chicky Phil paced the offense sporadically to get an 8-4 win over his own. Cowzart claimed a 2-1 series win and will play in the second round against Lighton Prestige captain Acorn.

B. Chapman v. Victoria. Two retired veterans clash in 8-ball with the silver cue. Victoria's Chapman had a seven-ball run in game 1, putting her ahead of Pearl's Victoria. At the end, Chapman took her time before sinking the 8 for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Spurs' Chapman was a little slower on offense in game 2, allowing the Surfers' Victoria to do a larger share of the offense. Victoria obliged, earning the win to tie the series at 1. Chapman had a better start to game 3, but Victoria fought back and won with a four-ball run-out to claim a 2-1 series win. Victoria is headed to the second round.

Oreo v. Chicky Phil. The purple cue takes this series of 8-ball. A slow pace took hold in game 1, which saw Terrace City's Oreo eventually make a pair at the end to get the win and 1-0 series lead over Midland's Chicky Phil. Things improved in game 2, as the Knights' Oreo quickly took the lead. The Predators' Chicky Phil didn't let it stand, rallying on a five-ball run-out to grab the win and tie the series at 1. Chicky Phil did not repeat the performance, falling flat in game 3 as Oreo shut him out to win the series 2-1. Oreo is in the second round.

Dewey v. Steven. Next up is 10-ball with the green cue. Oceanside's Dewey found his way just fine in game 1, beating Atlantic's Steven with a 6-10 combination to the bottom left. Dewey leads the series 1-0. The Pirates' Steven put up a better resistance in game 2, but faltered in the end with multiple misses on the 10. The Waves' Dewey finished it off at the bottom right for the win to clinch the series 2-0. Dewey didn't find as much success in game 3, and Steven poked a 9-10 combination to the top left at the end for the win. Dewey moved on to the second round with a 2-1 series win.

A. Charlton v. Lionel. Another retired player draws in for 15-ball with the red cue. Archtown's Charlton had a strong opening to game 1 and buoyed it later, but a missed contact near the end allowed Commerce's Lionel to pick off the final pair. Lionel leads the series 1-0. The Arrows' Charlton again played a lot of offense in game 2, but couldn't keep up the pace in the end. The Tradewinds' Lionel fired off a short run for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Lionel's win in game 3 was the most impressive, as he rattled off a seven-ball run-out to sweep Charlton 3-0. Lionel is in the second round.

Ruby v. Goldy. Longtime stars meet in 7-ball with the blue cue. Archtown's Ruby had a lot of offense and luck early in game 1, only for a missed bank on the 7 to lead to Everton's Goldy picking up the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Eagles' Goldy had a solid game 2, but managed to split the offense with the Arrows' Ruby. In the end, Ruby got the 7 to fall in the bottom right for the win, which tied the series at 1. Goldy had one of the worst missed contact scratches in recent memory late in game 3, allowing Ruby to make the final pair from ball-in-hand. Ruby took the series 2-1, punching her ticket to the second round.

Shawn v. Frosty. Today's finale is in 12-ball with the silver cue. Southern's Shawn started well, played slow in the middle, then stepped up late over Viewpoint Sound's Frosty. Shawn's final pair gave him the win and 1-0 series lead. The Monarchs' Shawn found less success in game 2, yielding a wild-card ball to the Meteors' Frosty in the middle. Frosty took full advantage, making a quick pair of shots for the win to tie the series at 1. Frosty kept the momentum up in game 3, stunning Shawn with pace early on. Frosty cruised to victory and won the series 2-1 to earn a place in the second round.
