Two series went the distance, and conveniently enough, the winners of the next two games will go on to play each other in the quarterfinal match at the bottom of the bracket. Leading off the decisive games, we head to...
HP Field, as the Eastside Sharks host the Pronger Tridents. Strawberry picked a bad time to have her lowest score of the round, posting 226 for Pronger to begin the festivities. Graham capitalized with a strong 367-point effort for Eastside, giving them a modest lead after a player each. Hoot took a costly mistimed swing and ended up with only 192 points for the Tridents, digging them a bit of a hole. Chelsea chipped 401 for the Sharks, adding onto their early lead. Paps showed off strong batting skills in hitting 503 for Pronger, giving them a slight advantage. Taylor Swift again slipped, putting up only 204 for Eastside and making the game extremely close by league standards. It wasn't close enough for the Tridents, as Precious likely just signed her own release form by stumbling to 45 points, leaving her team at 966 in the season-ending loss. Robyn finished off the Sharks win with 244 for a total of 1216. Eastside somehow found their way to the quarterfinals, winning the series 4-3. The #2 ranked Sharks await the winner of the next game as their new opponent.
The other decisive game comes far to the north, as the Central Warriors host the Web City Spiders at Nestle's Warriors Park. Shadow's road curse continued in the most untimely of fashions for Web City, as their captain had just 6 points to lead the game off. Central's de facto captain fared far better, as Twilight posted a massive 869 in a clutch performance. Rainmane swung 240 for the Spiders, which put a small dent into the deficit. Gizmo belted another 431 for the Warriors, who finally appear to have it all figured out. Sugar made that look even more certain, as she hit a meager 21 for Web City, who are resigned to being eliminated at this point. Central showed no mercy as Noelle ripped 657 to extend the lead to an absurd level. As if a comeback wasn't already unlikely enough, Dominic incurred a 50% penalty for a false start, and ended with 68, putting the Spiders at 335. Just as a side note, Web City scored a total of 1228 over their last three games, all losses to squander a 3-1 series lead and enter the depths of elimination. The Warriors' fan favorite Dustin hit 160 to put them at 2117, making it official that they had advanced. Central came from two games down to win 4-3 in the series, and they will face a disorganized Sharks team in the quarterfinal round.
Just as a primer for the next round, here are the matchups: #1 Whitewater Shores VS #8 Southridge Defenders; #12 Maplewood Lumberjacks VS #13 Royal Crowns (the Cinderella series); #3 Golden Pilots VS #6 Pacific Volcanoes (the Generational Battle); #2 Eastside Sharks VS #7 Central Warriors. The first game of each series will be in the next post, likely to hit your screens before the clock strikes midnight for me.
