UPCL Cricket: Playoffs First Round - Day 4

We're back with the first possible day for some eliminations. We begin with...

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors are on the verge of seeing their championship defense end abruptly. Princess slugged a big 791 for Tysini, establishing a massive lead while pushing the hosts closer to the edge. Twilight couldn't really do anything on her turn, scoring just 161 as Central is running out of hope. Leandra flubbed her turn with only 25 for the Hummingbirds, creating a bit of a vulnerability. Dustin couldn't capitalize for the Warriors, having trouble getting a good angle with his bat and crashing out at 80. Charli chopped her way to 560 for Tysini in a strong effort, likely killing any hope of a comeback. Noelle did well with 425 for Central in what's likely her last professional cricket appearance. Bright plucked just 78 for the Hummingbirds, making their final 1454. Gizmo found an early groove but quickly fell out of it, hitting 152 to put the Warriors in a loss with 818. Tysini sweeps the series 4-0, becoming the first team to go through to the Quarterfinals.

Verizon Field, Pacific: This series has played tight so far, but the Pilots have a chance to really establish themselves here. Golden's Valencia turned in a stinker, playing distracted from the start and managing just 37 for the visitors. Starlight answered with 460 for Pacific, giving them their first initial lead of the series. Dusty made a nice dent in the deficit with her 366 for the Pilots, but they still trail. Ms. Kitty answered with 487 for the Volcanoes, giving them a larger lead at the halfway mark. Strut got out of the worst of his slump with 199 for Golden, but they are still well behind. Jack left the door open, hitting a meager 92 for Pacific in a poor appearance from the outgoing veteran. A. Charlton only had 164 for the Pilots, putting them at a loss with 766. Leonette's 160 for the Volcanoes was enough to ice their win at 1199. Pacific has retied the series at 2 before they return to the southeastern town again.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: It's their season on the line as the Waves host this Game 4. Patches, somewhat surprisingly, was stuffed at 55 for Boston, her first bad game of the series. Oceanside's Snuggle did make a good save with a long reach, but the incoming ball hit a cluster on the pitch, ending his turn at 346 as his wicket fell. Puff II also tried and failed with an aggressive turn for the Swifts, scoring a measly 80. Bells turned 181 for the Waves, adding modestly to their noticeable but not quite safe lead. Gradley turned everything around for Boston, pummeling 836 to give them the lead just past the halfway point. Alyssa had only 225 for Oceanside, failing to cover the deficit before the final players came to bat. Sweetheart collected a weak 176 for the Swifts, giving them a total of 1147. Pounce inexplicably took a 50% penalty for a bad false start foul, although he would have failed without it as well, but he had only 76 for the Waves. They lost the game with 828 and the series in a 4-0 sweep by Boston. It will be the #3 ranked Swifts against the #6 Hummingbirds in the Quarterfinals, as both teams have done their parts quickly.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Eagles are on the verge of the sweep, but will have to close it out on the road against a solid home team. Goldy set Everton up for success with 663 on her opening turn, making things difficult for the hosts. Misty got 120 back for Westside, her best effort of the series, which is not saying much for her. Puff III tapped 202 for the Eagles, adding a small bit to their lead. Goatee gained some ground with 263 for the Rockers, but they need much more than sub-average efforts. Cleo batted a solid 336 for Everton, extending their lead again as the game continues to favor the visitors. Midnight double-tapped an early ball, earning a 50% penalty for false start, and this meant she scored only 32 as Westside prepares to exit the playoffs. Blizzard's 48 brought the Eagles to 1248, which should stand for the win. Chicky Phil came up short with 304 for the Rockers, giving them 719 in the loss. Everton advances to the Quarterfinals on a 4-0 series sweep.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers look to take a commanding lead if they can win another home game. Snowball led things off with 263 for Swordpoint, leaving a bit to be desired. Watermelon had a good turn going until a deflection stopped her at 247 for Pearl, making it a close start. Dreamy did about the same with 256 for the Blades, restoring their lead to its previous level. Neopolitan couldn't quite keep pace, hitting only 213 for the Surfers as they fall a bit farther behind. Shawn did well, supplying Swordpoint with 298 to add modestly to their lead. Wings broke out with 551 for Pearl, covering the deficit with a player each to go, giving the hosts the inside lane. Stealth countered with 679 for the Blades, putting their final at 1496 and forcing a response from the hosts. Cowzart produced 225 for the Surfers, and they'll take the loss at 1236. The series returns to Blades Fusion ProGlide Park tied at 2.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige are trying to close out their Southwestern Rivals in what would be a surprising sweep. Infinity's Smudge levied 416 to open the game, a stronger start from the struggling captain. Acorn couldn't make good contact for Lighton, slumping to 131 as they start from behind. Shelley picked up 336 for the Torpedoes, adding nicely to their lead. Spirit got 229 back for the Prestige, but they need a bit more out of their depth players. Gabe kept pacing Infinity's lead well, adding 316 to give them a small boost. Twinkie I got shut down with bad swings and a deflection with only 7 points to add to Lighton's score, dooming them to a loss more than likely. Whiskers tapped 227 to bring the Torpedoes to their final of 1295 in what should be a win. Lydia didn't make an impact, with her 161 sealing the Prestige loss at 528. Lighton still leads the series 3-1, but has seen their confidence shaken a bit.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates have already given the Tradewinds some trouble, and they look to do a bit more. Tigerette stayed consistent, starting the game with 407 for Commerce. Delila butchered her turn with only 51 for Atlantic. Ice Cream punished the mistake, smacking 550 for the Tradewinds as they have a strong grip in this game. Amber got stalled at 40 for the Pirates, making this very reminiscent of game 1 in this series. Lionel tapped 192 for Commerce, but their lead is still huge. Americus cut the deficit slightly with 320 for Atlantic, but they'll need a big closing effort to steal this game. Lorde made it all the more difficult, pounding 687 for the Tradewinds to give them a presumably victorious total of 1836. Dominic took a 67% penalty after a pair of false starts, and ended up with only 12 for the Pirates, giving them a soul-crushing loss with 423. Commerce leads the series 3-1 and can close it out with the next game at Nike Field.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The road team has won every game so far, and the Knights could tie the series if that trend continues. Terrace City's Kiwi was in a groove until an odd bounce caught her bat in a bad position, ending her turn at 256. Freedom's Jasmine got indecisive on a swing, allowing a ball to roll up her bat and disrupt her next swing, and she had just 231 because of the misplay. Jennifer collected 353 in a productive outing the Knights. Stinky pulled the Cascades ahead at the midway mark with his 456. Oreo fired back with 496 for Terrace City, settling a ball with her backhand and then rallying to a bigger finish from there. Roxy got much of it back with 335 for Freedom, but they trail slightly as the final players come to bat. Stripes picked up only 177 for the Knights, putting them at 1282 overall. Nikolai struggled, hitting a measly 48 to give the Cascades the loss on 1070. The series heads back to Terrace City tied at 2, with the Knights now needing to break the trend.

Three teams are out, making it a bit easier to shoe-horn the games in going forward. We should get the Game 5s in within the next two days.
