We're inching closer to the end of the round, with today's action starting in...
Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Lorde v. Dreamy. The blue cue leads off today in Accuracy. A close game 1 ended in a scratch by Swordpoint's Dreamy that allowed Capital City's Lorde to take the 1-2 win. Lorde leads the series 1-0 after the strong performance. Both players slipped up a bit more in a tricky start to game 2, but the Blades' Dreamy was inconsistent throughout. The Sharpshooters' Lorde missed once early and once late for the 2-4 win to secure the series at 2-0. Lorde and Dreamy struggled in game 3, although Lorde did triple-pot the 3 to the bottom side, 15 to the bottom right and 5 to the top right to force overtime. Here, Dreamy got her lone win by a 4-5 score to make it a 2-1 series win for Lorde, who will host Kodiak of the Modernistic Union in the second round. Lorde advanced three bids while Dreamy moves four to the next round.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Max v. Leandra. A pair of veterans battles in Rotation with the silver cue. Golden's Max had no trouble finding offense in game 1, while Tysini's Leandra made just one ball which was washed out by a scratch. Max won 8-0 to take an early 1-0 series lead. The Pilots' Max made a three-ball run at the start of game 2, but the Hummingbirds' Leandra slowly tracked him down to tie the game in the middle. Leandra kept going late, winning 8-5 in a comeback to tie the series at 1. Leandra kept up her offense with a three-ball run to start game 3. Max had some chances to get back in the game but his shot was shaky. Leandra won 8-2, taking the series 2-1 in the process. Leandra will visit Dreamy of the Swordpoint Blades in a Southwestern Derby in the second round. Leandra has six advancing bids while Max moves on with four.
Google Hall, Modernistic: Ms. Puppy v. Gizmo. The red cue draws in for 10-ball after the break. Modernistic's Ms. Puppy posted a five-ball run to start game 1, and then added a four-ball run-out on the next turn after Eastside's Gizmo failed to produce much offense. Ms. Puppy's dominant win gave her a 1-0 series lead. The Sharks' Gizmo did better in a slower-paced game 2. The Union's Ms. Puppy struggled to produce big offense like before, and Gizmo made the last four balls over two turns to get his win, tying the series at 1. Ms. Puppy had a better performance in game 3, snagging a four-ball run in the middle and a three-ball run-out at the end for the win to take the series 2-1. Ms. Puppy will host Katelynn of the Diamond Gems in the second round. Ms. Puppy will take five bids to the next round while Gizmo runs with four.
Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Starlight v. Lexi. The silver cue is back for this 15-ball set. Pacific's Starlight struggled in game 1, limited to just short bursts of offense despite many good shots. Harrison's Lexi kept even with her own bursts of offense, and she made a pair at the end for the win. Lexi leads the series 1-0. The Specters' Lexi opened with a wild seven-ball run and added a four-ball run on the next turn with great movement on her shots. It wasn't enough, as the Volcanoes' Starlight potted a pair on each of her turns for the win to tie the series at 1. Game 3 was a close battle, but the bounces all favored Lexi, who won on a shot from ball-in-hand after Starlight's late scratch. Lexi took the series 2-1 and will visit Northeastern rival Whiskers of the Maplewood Lumberjacks in round two. Starlight will take five bids into the next round.
Microsoft Center, Del Sur: Salmo v. Smudge. A journeyman meets a captain in the blue cue's last Accuracy series of the round. Southern's Salmo kept ahead for most of game 1, as Infinity's Smudge just couldn't quite keep up with the pace. Salmo ended up winning 3-4 after a late fade for both players, which gives the host a 1-0 series lead. The Torpedoes' Smudge fell back into a tie late in game 2 after leading for much of the rack. The Monarchs' Salmo had a chance to force overtime, but he missed, and Smudge won 2-3 to tie the series at 1. Game 3 went in favor of Smudge, who missed an early shot but held off Salmo in the midgame long enough to win 2-4. Smudge won the series 2-1 as well, and she'll face a fellow Southwestern captain in the Victoria Spurs' Spice in the second round. Smudge has seven advancing bids, while Salmo will roll five bids forward.
BMW RockDome, Westside: Midnight v. Hughbert. The blue cue stays in action with this series of 15-ball. Westside's Midnight enjoyed a fair amount of the offense in game 1, including potting the last five balls over two turns to defeat Infinity's Hughbert. Midnight's strong finish gave her a 1-0 series lead. The Torpedoes' Hughbert did a little better with offense in game 2, coming close to a win as he missed the 10-15 combination at the top left. Unfortunately for him, he left it lined up for the Rockers' Midnight to tap-in for the win, sealing her series win at 2-0. Midnight cranked out a six-ball run at one point in game 3, but it wouldn't be enough as she didn't support it. Hughbert answered at the end on a four-ball run-out for the win to avoid the sweep. Midnight took the series 2-1 and will host an Urban rival in the Modernistic Union's Puff I in the second round.
Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Katharine v. Brownie. The silver cue checks in for 15-ball now. Whitewater's Katharine made runs of six and four balls but still got lucky Royal's Brownie didn't snag the win late. Katharine tapped in the 15 at the bottom right on her second try to grab the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Shores' Katharine had a less prolific start to game 2, allowing the Crowns' Brownie to make more of an impact on offense this time. The end-game remained choppy after the 10 until Katharine corralled a four-ball run-out for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Katharine didn't have as much attack in game 3, as Brownie bossed the play with a late five-ball run. Brownie's bank on the 15 just missed at the top side, and Katharine put it in for the 3-0 series sweep. Katharine will host Ms. Kitty of the Pacific Volcanoes in the second round. Both players advanced six bids.
Nissan Hall, Infinity: Shelley v. Avril. The blue cue cycles back in for Rotation this time. Infinity's Shelley started well in game 1, and while Web City's Avril briefly made it close, Shelley escaped with the 8-3 win after a three-ball run-out. Shelley leads the series 1-0. The Torpedoes' Shelley had another good start in game 2, but this time the Spiders' Avril roared ahead in the mid-game. Shelley stayed calm, working a five-ball run-out at the end to get the 8-6 win that secured the series in her favor at 2-0. Shelley held the lead from the start of game 3 and never looked back, holding off Avril one more time by an 8-4 score. Shelley swept the series 3-0 and will host Sleepy B. of the Archtown Arrows in round two. Shelley took five bids forward while Avril advanced four.
Ford Forum, Pronger: Lize v. Jennifer. More Rotation is on the way in this series with the silver cue. Pronger's Lize saw a steady offense early in game 1, but after Terrace City's Jennifer pulled ahead on a four-ball run, Lize's offense disappeared. Jennifer would soon make another pair to win 8-5 for the 1-0 series lead. Game 2 was more of a back-and-forth battle initially as both players saw scratches slow them down. The Knights' Jennifer emerged at the end with an 8-4 win after the Tridents' Lize saw her offense go cold again. Jennifer's win sealed the series at 2-0. Jennifer made quick work of game 3, taking a three-ball run early and suppressing Lize's counterattacks well. Jennifer won 8-2 and swept the series 3-0, setting her up to visit Juno of the Stonebridge Wolves in the second round. Lize will have five bids going forward.
Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Tigerette v. Sage. The blue cue wraps up its 15-ball for the round in this big series. Victoria's Sage made a couple of errors in game 1, the latter of the two leading Commerce's Tigerette to convert the 4-12 combination at the top right before glancing a shot off the 4 to pot the 15 at the bottom right. Tigerette owns a 1-0 series lead. The Tradewinds' Tigerette lost her touch in game 2, which was an even battle for much of its length. The Spurs' Sage struck late with a pair of shots to get the win, tying the series at 1 game apiece. Tigerette had a late three-ball run in another balanced effort, but she missed the cut on the 14. Sage didn't waste the chance, converting the last pair of shots to get the win and 2-1 series win. Sage will visit the Boston Swifts' Gradley in the second round. Sage has seven advancing bids while Tigerette holds five.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Neopolitan v. Violetta. The red cue will come on now to close out its 13-ball for the round. Queens' Violetta made three balls over her first two turns before an error early in game 1. Pearl's Neopolitan fired back with a seven-ball run-out, capitalizing on great positioning for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Flames' Violetta made a strong push to get back into game 2, but it didn't pay off, as she missed the 8 on two attempts. The Surfers' Neopolitan survived the challenge and made the 8 at the bottom left to go up 2-0 in the series. Violetta had a good start to game 3 until a scratch slowed her down. Neopolitan wasn't particularly crisp either, but her three-ball run-out earned a win for a 3-0 series sweep. Neopolitan will host her Surfers teammate Bright in the second round. Neopolitan is advancing with six bids while Violetta carries seven.
BMW RockDome, Westside: Goatee v. Hughbert. The silver cue gets a turn to close out its Rotation bracket. Westside's Goatee had a fairly easy time in game 1, working a four-ball run early on and keeping Infinity's Hughbert on the edges. Goatee closed out the win at 8-1 for the 1-0 series lead. The Rockers' Goatee again started well before going a bit cold in the middle of game 2. The Torpedoes' Hughbert did better to keep it close at first, but Goatee still got away for the 8-4 win, clinching the series at 2-0. Hughbert rallied in game 3, making a seven-ball run after Goatee scratched on the break. Hughbert then capitalized with the 7-12 combination to the top side after another Goatee scratch to give himself an 8-0 win. Goatee won the series 2-1, and she'll face Prism of the TodavĂa Stills in round two. Hughbert has only two bids going forward.
Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Frosty v. Cubby. The silver cue stays for a series of 15-ball. Game 1 didn't see either player at their best performance. Viewpoint Sound's Frosty struggled to string shots together, and Eastside's Cubby did as well until he made a four-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Sharks' Cubby put it all together in game 2, working a seven-ball run that shook the Meteors' Frosty. Cubby finished it off a turn later with a cut off the 10 to deflect the 15 into the bottom left for the win. This sealed the series at 2-0 in Cubby's favor. Frosty avoided the sweep with a rather abrupt finish in game 1, converting the 7-13 combination to the top side with the deflection sweeping the 15 into the bottom right for the win. Cubby settled for a 2-1 series win that sees him visit the Web City Spiders' Jack in the second round, one of his two advancing bids compared to six for Frosty.
UPS Hall, Maplewood: Gabe v. Sarah. The blue cue ends the day with a series of 12-ball. Tysini's Sarah notched a three-ball run early in game 1 to gain control, but Maplewood's Gabe challenged her throughout the game until he missed his last ball at the top left. His botched shot bought Sarah the time to make her last ball at the top right for the win and 1-0 lead in the series. The Hummingbirds' Sarah posted one of each and a scratch on the game 2 break, giving the Lumberjacks' Gabe a significant advantage. He used it well, as Sarah never really got close to winning as Gabe tied the series at 1. Gabe then did the same thing in game 3, giving Sarah a wild-card ball, but she wasn't able to catch him. Gabe took this win, earning the 2-1 series win that pits him against Northeastern rival Rudolph of the Harrison Specters in the second round. Both players advanced five bids.
That's all for today. We'll get one step closer to finishing the round tomorrow.
