Another day of Tournament play is here, beginning with...
T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Spice v. Puff III. The purple cue opens the day in 15-ball. Everton's Puff III looked strong with a four-ball run over the middle of game 1, but Victoria's Spice fired back on a six-ball run-out to quickly earn the win. Spice leads the series 1-0. Game 2 saw the Spurs' Spice struggle a bit with the break. The Eagles' Puff III would push the 15 near the top left, but she couldn't sink it. Spice eventually deflected the 5-15 combination off the 7 and into the pocket for the win to go ahead 2-0 in the series. Spice struggled more at the start of game 3 after a scratched on the break. Puff III did well to collect the early offense, but Spice took over and won again with a six-ball run-out to secure the series at 3-0. Puff III finally got on the scoreboard with her win in game 4, a choppy battle that saw Spice ease up from the earlier established pace. Spice remains ahead 3-1 in the series. Puff III had some momentum late in game 5, only for disaster to strike as her shot on the 9 kicked the 15 to the bottom side while the cut fell in the top left. Spice picked up the free win for a 4-1 series win, and she'll host a Southwestern rival in the Infinity Torpedoes' Fuchsia in the bracket semifinals.
Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Klaus v. Starlight. The silver cue is next up, playing 8-ball. Archtown's Klaus looked to have control to start game 1, but a five-ball run set Pacific's Starlight ahead even with missed contact on the 8. Klaus pulled back, but Starlight finished in time for the win to get a 1-0 series lead. The Arrows' Klaus held the lead for most of game 2, and just managed to hold off the Volcanoes' Starlight as she tried another rally. Klaus picked up the win this time, tying the series at 1. Klaus had a big lead early in game 3, but Starlight staged another comeback with a six-ball run to pull even. The battle was tough at the end until Starlight made the 8 to the bottom right for the win and 2-1 series lead. Starlight couldn't get her offense off the floor in game 4, struggling significantly. Klaus took advantage of that with a steady hand, ending on a four-ball run-out for the win to retie the series at 2. Game 5 could have gone either way, with Klaus pressing on a late four-ball run, only for Starlight to sink a four-ball run-out instead. Starlight won the tough series 3-2 and will play in the bracket semifinals. Starlight earned her first kill of the year to make Klaus the 26th eliminated player.
Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Citrus v. Ms. Kitty. Veterans clash in 10-ball with the red cue. A choppy pattern of play emerged in game 1, which ultimately allowed Lighton's Citrus to win with a late pair. Citrus leads Pacific's Ms. Kitty 1-0 in the series. The Prestige's Citrus had a stronger break in game 2, but the course of play wasn't much sharper. The Volcanoes' Ms. Kitty made a better impact this time, winning with a three-ball run-out capped by a long shot on the 10 to the bottom right. The series is tied at 1. Citrus struggled to gain any control on her shots late in game 3, causing her to flounder a bit. Ms. Kitty didn't have a ton of success either, but she made the final pair on tap-ins for the win and 2-1 series lead. Ms. Kitty opened with a four-ball run in game 4. Citrus would make a three-ball run later in the game, but Ms. Kitty was there for a quick finish on the final pair, helping her seal the series at 3-1. Ms. Kitty still had a good chunk of offense in game 5, but a lack of desperation let her ease up late, and Citrus picked up the win instead. Ms. Kitty won the series 3-2 and is set to visit Queens Flames captain Crystal in the bracket semifinals.
Intel Center, Diamond: Leonardo v. Greg. Back in 8-ball, the blue cue gets a turn in action. This series was delayed and ultimately played in the dark due to a power outage. In game 1, Diamond's Leonardo struggled with scratches early on, allowing Archtown's Greg to make a five-ball run. Leonardo recovered with a tap-in on the 8 to get the 1-0 series lead. The Gems' Leonardo found offense early in game 2, while the Arrows' Greg failed to find any traction on offense. Leonardo makes four balls over his last two turns for the win and 2-0 series lead. Greg struck first in game 3, but Leonardo took the lead in the middle. Greg then found a seven-ball run-out to earn the win and cut Leonardo's series lead 2-1. Both players put in solid efforts in game 4, making for a close battle right to the end. Greg broke the deadlock with a three-ball run-out to tie the series at 2. Leonardo salvaged the series win in game 5 with a five-ball run to take a big lead over Greg, and then a three-ball run-out for the win and 3-2 result. Leonardo will visit Pronger Tridents star Spot in the bracket semifinals.
HP Field Events Center, Midland: Chicky Phil v. Marsell. The green cue's lone series today also comes in 8-ball. Midland's Chicky Phil went empty on the break in game 1, and Whitewater's Marsell made a pair in response. Chicky Phil then unleashed an eight-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. A close and choppy game 2 saw the Shores' Marsell butcher a late chance from ball-in-hand after the Predators' Chicky Phil missed contact. Chicky Phil then won on a three-ball run-out for the 2-0 lead in the series. Both players were fast to start game 3, but slowed down a bit in the middle. Marsell couldn't catch up as he trailed early on, and Chicky Phil slammed the door with a three-ball run-out to secure the series at 3-0. Chicky Phil backed off on offense in game 4, allowing Marsell to dominate for his first win that cut Chicky Phil's advantage to 3-1. Marsell stay strong in game 5, picking up a five-ball run and a three-ball run-out in quick succession for another win. Chicky Phil won the series 3-2 and will play in the bracket semifinals.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Strut v. Bandit. The silver cue cycles out with a 9-ball series. Swordpoint's Bandit showed strength late in game 1 by making five balls over his last two turns to beat Golden's Strut. Bandit holds a 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Bandit couldn't sustain his offense as well in game 2, faltering early on. The Pilots' Strut took his time before striking a five-ball run-out at the end for the win, tying the series at 1. Strut looked like the better player in game 3, including a four-ball run that served to bait Bandit into a scratch. After the error, Strut narrowly missed the 9 at the bottom left, and Bandit sank it for the win and 2-1 series lead. Strut had a four-ball run early in game 4, which Bandit answered with a three-ball run before his miss on the 8. Strut then made the final pair for the win, retying the series at 2. Strut had quite a battle with Bandit throughout game 5, but it was the host Strut who made the final pair for the win and 3-2 series win. Strut will be the visitor in his bracket semifinals appearance.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Max v. Frosty. The purple cue's done for the day after closing the venue doubleheader with Accuracy. Viewpoint Sound's Frosty faltered a bit early in game 1, but recovered as Golden's Max hit the skids late. Frosty held on for a 2-3 win and picked up the 1-0 series lead. The Meteors' Frosty produced an awful break to start game 2. The Pilots' Max managed to take the last-shot advantage, and he used it well when he forced overtime. Frosty competed for a bit, but Max earned the 2-3 win to tie the series at 1. Max had an early miss in game 3, but managed to stabilize his play quickly after that. Frosty lost complete control in the middle and a late scratch confirmed her loss, as Max won 1-5 to go ahead 2-1 in the series. Both players missed chances to assert themselves in game 4, but it was Max who had the worst mistakes late in the game. Frosty was able to hang on in the end for a 3-4 win, retying the series at 2. Max refused to lose in game 5, setting the tone early and carrying the lead the whole way as Frosty slipped up late. Max won 1-3 and took the series 3-2 to get into the bracket semifinals. Frosty is the 27th player out of the Tournament, and Max has joined the kills lead with two.
Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Kirstin v. Angelica. The red cue checks in for 15-ball. Both players showed smooth touches on offense during the early stages of game 1. Lighton's Angelica suffered a scratch near the end, and Stonebridge's Kirstin ignited a four-ball run-out from ball-in-hand. Kirstin leads the series 1-0. The Wolves' Kirstin had a little more luck in her success in game 2, but that ran out by the end. The Prestige's Angelica had a five-ball run, then stuck the 15 in the bottom left when Kirstin missed it. Angelica's win tied the series at 1. Angelica had nothing on the game 3 break, and the rest of the play was fairly even. Kirstin would grab a four-ball run, but her late play allowed Angelica to win with the final pair. Angelica leads the series 2-1. Both players found success early in game 4, with the fast pace playing into both of their styles. At the end, Angelica left the 14 short at the bottom left, but Kirstin went on to miss the 15 at the bottom right, and Angelica got the tap-in for the win to secure the series at 3-1. Game 5 kept the pace up high, with Kirstin making a few pushes early on. At the end, Angelica smacked a four-ball run-out for the win and 4-1 series win. Angelica will play in the bracket semifinals.
AT&T Hall, Oceanside: Snuggle v. Cheddar. The red cue remains in action for a 13-ball series. North Modernistic's Cheddar looked to have the lead for quite a bit of game 1, but Oceanside's Snuggle surged on a four-ball run near the end. Cheddar couldn't counter it, and Snuggle put the 8 in the bottom side to go ahead 1-0 in the series. The Nighthawks' Cheddar worked a five-ball run very quickly in game 2, putting the Waves' Snuggle under pressure. Snuggle came close to stealing the win, but Cheddar struck the 8 to the bottom left from range to tie the series at 1. Cheddar made three stripes on the break in game 3, but her positioning wasn't good enough, and Snuggle answered on a quick three-ball run. Snuggle was better after that, earning the win and retaking the series lead at 2-1. Snuggle had a massive lead in game 4, but couldn't commit to playing for an advantage late, missing a kitchen shot backward on the 4 toward the bottom right. Cheddar pushed back on a four-ball run and then made a three-ball run-out later for the win to retie the series at 2. Cheddar overfilled a pick while making two legally on the game 5 break. Snuggle would proceed to give away two more for Cheddar, but it was part of his all-out offense plan, which worked when he won on a pair at the end. Snuggle took the series 3-2 and will visit the Central Warriors' Noelle in the bracket semifinals.
GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Wario v. Ice Cream. The blue cue ends the day with 15-ball. Pace was no problem in game 1, as both players worked around the table freely. They each had a three-ball run late, but Southridge's Wario tried a bank on the 15 and failed. Boston's Ice Cream buried it at the top right for the win and 1-0 series lead. Game 2 saw a slight slowdown on offense, but the Swifts' Ice Cream was back up to speed with a late three-ball run. The Defenders' Wario bobbled around for a bit and then fell as Ice Cream put the 14-15 combination in the top left to go ahead 2-0 in the series. Ice Cream went for a gamble on the 3-15 combination at the top left, but she clipped the 13 on the approach and the conversion would mean an instant win for Wario. Ice Cream remains ahead 2-1 in the series. Ice Cream had a decent few looks in game 4, including an early four-ball run, but Wario slammed the door with a four-ball run-out, with a double-pot of the 14 to the bottom left and the 15 to the bottom side. Wario has tied the series at 2 to set up a big finale. Wario completed the reverse sweep in game 5, showing some real menace from the start. Ice Cream had a chance to win at the bottom side, but she chunked her shot, and Wario deposited it to take the series 3-2. Wario will visit Everton Eagles newcomer Vincent in the bracket semifinals.
That's all we've got for today. Tomorrow's action is likely to have a delayed start.
