UPCL Cricket: Week 4 Part 1

The league is back as teams start settling in, with the first eleven weeks of the fourth week in this post. We begin in...

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: Spice tried to get a little too fancy for Victoria, taking only 279 after spiking her final ball off another ball on the pitch. Sally countered with 329 for Archtown, making it relatively close early on. B. Chapman easily covered the gap for the Spurs, scoring 429 in a very solid outing. Sleepy B. allowed the Arrows to fall a bit behind, wrangling in 359. Yekaterina faltered with 162 for Victoria, leaving them vulnerable in the later stages of the game. Ruby hauled Archtown into the lead by lining 375, putting them in the driver's seat again. Kavan forced a response by drilling 595 for the Spurs, producing their final score of 1465. Dusky had a very necessary 852 for the Arrows, giving them the win with 1915 overall in the impressive finish. Archtown continues to be perfect at home, moving to 4-3 overall, while Victoria is still winless at 0-6.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: Twilight couldn't quite corral a deflected ball, but she left her mark on the game by tallying 631 for Central. Delila remained consistent, hitting 387 for Atlantic to cover a decent portion of the deficit. Dustin shrugged off a few wildly bowled balls en route to 823 for the Warriors, building the lead up well. Amber took most of it back for the Pirates, blasting 752 in her turn to bring the game to the halfway point. Noelle ripped another 848 for Central, protecting their lead efficiently. Americus let the game slip away, producing a reasonable but insufficient 320 for Atlantic. Gizmo tapped 171 to give the Warriors 2473 total. Dominic had 280 for the Pirates, and they fell with 1739 total. Central's big win puts them at 5-3, while Atlantic is down to 8-4 as the grueling schedule appears to have caught up with them a bit.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: Bear scooped a solid 368 to kick off a Center Division battle. Patches smacked 584 for Boston in response, giving the hosts a decent lead early on. Twinkie III pounded 416 for the Shores, giving them at least a temporary lead with the solid effort. Puff II poked 257 for the Swifts, covering the gap successfully. Cheddar put Whitewater in a bad position, misplaying a ball that resulted in her scoring a meager 25 points. Gradley hit 560 to give Boston some critical separation late in the game. Wild Thing's 200 gave the Shores only 1009 total in their loss. Sweetheart chipped 117 for the Swifts, giving them 1518 in the win. Boston, after finally getting some time off, stands at 5-4, while Whitewater's winless run on the road is now at four games, with their record at 3-4.

Capital City SuperCenter: The fringe teams of the Urban Core South meet in a critical Center Division game. Valencia opened with 488 for Golden, a decent showing to get going. Chris responded with a big 721 for Capital City, establishing the lead for them early on. Dusty took a bad read on a high bouncing ball, putting it out of bounds for 64 points for the Pilots. Missy launched 598 for the Sharpshooters, likely securing their lead. Strut managed 424 to get a few points back for Golden. Sprinkles cracked the door open a bit, hitting just 128 for Capital City. A. Charlton got shut down at 72 for the Pilots, and they lost with 1048 total. Dani slapped 345 for the Sharpshooters, icing their winning score at 1792. Capital City is up to 2-3, while Golden slips to 1-5 as their poor season gets worse.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The focus turns again to the Northeast as two recently hot teams do battle. Slinks grabbed a strong 407 for Harrison, giving them a good start. Twilight slammed 383 for Central, keeping things close. Twinkie II was a little too aggressive, and it backfired when she got cut down at 138 for the Specters. Dustin failed to take advantage of the opportunity for the Warriors, posting a weak 69 point effort. Sydney smacked 481 to add onto the Harrison lead, continuing a strong rookie season. Noelle could only corral 336 for Central, putting them farther behind. Brownie couldn't get a rhythm for the Specters, and her 145 put them at a total of 1171. Gizmo's 146 did not serve the Warriors well, as they took the loss with 934 total. Harrison goes to 6-3, winning four straight on the road with this divisional conquest, while Central is down to 5-4.

Nike Field, Commerce: Shadow didn't have a great appearance for Web City, taking only 114 in his turn. Tigerette did far worse, shanking her first two hits before overcompensating on the third, producing a measly 3 points. Rainmane hauled in 401 for the Spiders to strengthen their lead. Ice Cream provided a steady hand for the Tradewinds, blasting 848 to cover up her captain's failings. Sugar couldn't recover for Web City, giving them only 94 points as they fall behind by a decent margin. Lionel poked 239 for Commerce, building the lead up a bit more. Shiny struggled with a series of deflections, eventually falling with 58 points as the Spiders took a brutal loss with 667 total. Lorde went overboard to ice the victory, smacking 760, using a clever backhand move near the end but failing to settle from there. The Tradewinds closed at 1850. Commerce stands at 6-2, while Web City's struggles persist at 1-3.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: Snowball had a poor showing to open the game for Swordpoint, hitting only 36. Smokey pummeled 883 for Diamond, giving them a very strong lead to start with. Dreamy closed some of that gap by posting 584 for the Blades in a good recovery effort. Citrus countered very effectively, ripping 692 to boost the Gems lead at the halfway point of the game. Shawn didn't do much to help Swordpoint, managing just 117 as the game slips from their reach. Pedey tallied 433 for Diamond, extending their lead again. Stealth couldn't turn over the backhand attempt, ending his turn with 128 for the Blades, as they lose with 865. Cassandra brought it to a quick end, hitting 36 to ice the Gems victory at 2044. Diamond is now 3-4, while Swordpoint drops to 4-2 with the setback.

HP Field, Eastside: Last year's two glamour franchises look to ignite some progress for this season. Bear got a little overzealous, taking only 113 for Whitewater with his aggressive swings. Graham crushed 1355 for Eastside, staking out a huge lead in the beginning of the game. Twinkie III didn't do a whole lot in scoring 204 for the Shores, barely denting the deficit. Chelsea swatted another 456 for the Sharks to keep their lead at a large margin. Cheddar got most of that back with 432 for Whitewater. Taylor pounded another 1074 for Eastside, essentially guaranteeing victory at this point in the game. Wild Thing had 39 to bring the Shores to a merciful end at 788 in the brutal loss, their fifth straight on the road. Niki put up 314 to give the Sharks 3199 total in the win, quadrupling the Shores' final score. Eastside got a much needed win to go to 2-3, while Whitewater falls to 3-5.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Victoria's Spice did well early on, drilling 577 for the early lead. Goldy answered big time with 1044 for Everton, turning a deep deficit into a large lead with one big performance. B. Chapman couldn't respond for the Spurs, taking only 39 points in a jittery showing. Puff III kept her consistent home efforts going by ripping 661 in this game to boost the Eagles lead at the halfway point. Yekaterina bounced back from a slow start to end up with 472 for Victoria, shrinking the deficit slightly. Cleo answered with 405 for Everton, restoring most of the lead. Kavan failed miserably with 16 for the Spurs, putting them at a final of 1104 in their seventh straight loss of the season. Blizzard had 480 for the Eagles, putting them at 2590 in the big win. Everton continues to impress at 5-1 on the season, while Victoria is 0-7.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Spurs take a short trip to the hills for the second part of a doubleheader. Spice floundered in this game, hitting just 108 to get Victoria going a bit slowly. Jasmine stepped up and smacked 481 for Freedom, giving them a decent lead to work with. The Spurs got 192 out of B. Chapman this time, cutting into the deficit slightly. Stinky replied with 487 for the Cascades, adding onto the lead effectively. Yekaterina pulled in 339 for Victoria in a solid effort. Roxy slapped 495 for Freedom, as the hosts show impressive consistency from player to player. Kavan had 348 for the Spurs, but they still took the loss with only 987 points as they regress from their previous effort. Nikolai scored 305 for the Cascades, icing their win at 1768. Freedom is now at 6-4, while Victoria is a sickly 0-8.

Amazon Field, Golden: The final match of the segment features teams in positions they are not used to. Watermelon kept Pearl's high-flying tendencies going, driving 433 to give them a strong opening shot. Valencia kept it close with 407 for Golden, making this look like a competitive game. Neopolitan tried to pull a backhand chip play, but she was a bit short, clearing the wicket but missing the 4s as she ended with 177 for the Surfers. Dusty lifted 343 to pull the Pilots into the lead at the halfway mark. Wings struggled with only 176 for Pearl, barely covering the deficit. Strut didn't exactly make the most of his chance, taking 144 to give Golden a very narrow lead late in the game. Cowzart forced a response by hitting 145 for the Surfers, which put them at a total of 931. A. Charlton had a weak effort, hitting 93, but it worked as the Pilots ended with 987 and a win. Golden's sloppy performance still got them to 2-5, while Pearl stands at 4-2.

More games later in the week as I battle illness, so please have patience.
