We're back for the rest of the games of the week, beginning with...
Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: Valencia wrangled 231 points to begin the game for Golden. Slinks answered with 188 for Harrison in a mediocre effort. Dusty slapped 545 for the Pilots, solidifying their lead a little more. Twinkie II also struggled for the Specters, managing only 161 in her turn as they fall farther behind. Strut unleashed a huge performance for Golden, completely locking into the zone to tally 2199 and essentially confirm their pending victory. Harrison's rookie Sydney had a completely reasonable 790 to at least give the hosts some respectability. A. Charlton tapped 80 to give the Pilots 3055 total in a likely win. Brownie only got 45 back for the Specters, giving them 1184 as their losing final. Golden's first road win of the season puts them at 3-5 while Harrison falls to 6-4.
Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: Commerce's captain Tigerette had to cut her turn short at 584 after a technical error which she did not want to be forced into a replay for. Smudge pulled back with 455 for Infinity in a strong response. Ice Cream did not secure the Tradewinds lead, adding only 201 for the visitors. Shelley capitalized on the opportunity, striking 419 for the Torpedoes to give them a lead at the halfway point. Lionel kept Commerce in the mix by posting 432. Gabe rallied back with 666 for Infinity, boosting their lead some more late in the game. Lorde sliced 647 for the Tradewinds, forcing a response as she produced her team's final score of 1864. Whiskers couldn't do enough, giving the Torpedoes only 184 as they lost with 1724. Commerce got a bit lucky to escape the southwest with a win this time, moving up to 7-2, while Infinity is 1-6 after a devastating setback.
Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: They're not done with their trip yet though, as the Tradewinds travel the short distance to visit Lighton. Tigerette played a little too chippy in her turn, producing just 82 for Commerce this time. Acorn countered with 376, and only a mistimed swing prevented it from being much more dangerous for the Lighton captain. Ice Cream made a big impact, knocking 801 for the Tradewinds to take over the lead. Spirit covered the gap by smacking 614 for the Prestige, but the lead is significantly smaller than before. Lionel faltered with 180 for Commerce, leaving them extremely vulnerable. Twinkie I got victimized by a sharp bounce, ending her efforts at 375 for Lighton but restoring a stronger lead. Lorde again forced a response, lining 527 to give the Tradewinds a final of 1590. Lydia answered with 463 for the Prestige, leading them to a victory with 1828 total. Lighton is up to 4-2, while Commerce slides to 7-3.
UPS Ground, Maplewood: Two northeastern rivals do battle, both badly needing the critical divisional win early in the season. Shadow finally showed a flash of his former self, slugging 1264 to open the game in a big way for Web City. Fluffina got a fair portion back as she ripped 769 for Maplewood. Rainmande absolutely crushed 1823 for the Spiders, hardly even blinking as she extended the lead by a significant margin. Bryant kept the arms race going, slapping a crisp 960 for the Lumberjacks to keep them in range at least in the context of this game. Sugar tacked on 416 for Web City, maintaining the lead. Diddley managed just 279 for Maplewood, leaving them far behind. Shiny's 424 gave the Spiders a big total of 3927, likely securing a win in the crazy game. Cubby dug up 243 for the Lumberjacks, but they took a loss with 2251, an unlucky result. Web City got a much needed win to go to 2-3, passing the now 2-4 Maplewood.
Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: Playing in their blacks again, the Union host a highly successful Specters team. Slinks pounded 456 for Harrison to lead off very effectively. Juno stepped up, blasting 1124 for Modernistic to take a strong lead from the start. Twinkie II got too bold too early, ending up with 195 for the Specters as the game starts to slip away from them. Ms. Puppy batted a calm 695 for the Union, extending their lead well. Sydney managed only 92 for Harrison, another poor showing in this match. Chimpy tapped 167 for Modernistic, putting them on cruise control. Brownie had a strong 407 for the Specters, but they lost with 1150 total. Puff I spiked 690 to give the Union a final of 2676 in their win. Modernistic got an important win to go to 3-3, while Harrison drops to 6-5 as they have lost a bit of their mojo this week.
AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: Crystal lacked control in her appearance, putting up just 72 points for Queens. Snuggle shrugged off 256 for Oceanside to give them a modest lead early in the game. Kayla very methodically churned out 1444 for the Flames, burying their hosts with one big game. Bells couldn't get a backhand on an arcing ball, taking only 264 for the Waves. Max didn't secure the Queens lead by any means, scoring a meager 25 after his crafty attempt went awry. Alyssa cut the deficit by posting 312 for Oceanside, but they still face a tall task. Paige tacked on 492 for the Flames, giving them a strong final of 2033. Pounce got absolutely duped, swinging and missing early to produce only 25 points for the Waves as they took a loss with 857. Queens got a big win to go to 2-3, while Oceanside drops down to 3-3 after a promising start turned dark.
Verizon Field, Pacific: Spice batted 492 to lead off for Victoria, giving them their typical good start. Starlight managed only 179 after she couldn't get to backhand quickly enough. B. Chapman took a modest 274 for the Spurs, keeping the lead fairly steady. Ms. Kitty also got victimized by the backhand, as well as a bad bounce, that put her at only 171 for the Volcanoes. Yekaterina pummeled 832 to secure the Victoria lead as they appear set to take their first win of the season at this point. Jack chipped back with 552 in a strong showing for Pacific, keeping them theoretically in range. Kavan flicked 313 for the Spurs, giving them a final of 1911 as they await the final reply of the game. Leonette only had 112 for the Volcanoes, and they lost with 1014. Victoria's early season nightmare is closer to being over with their first win putting them at 1-8, while Pacific's swoon puts them at 5-4 in a classic example of a trap game.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Boots popped a quickly 627 for Southridge to get the game going. Watermelon accepted 361 for Pearl after a technical error ended her turn, keeping them within range. Debby drilled an extra 495 for the Defenders, adding onto their early lead. Neopolitan hauled in 550 for the Surfers, trimming a little of the deficit away. J. Garcia left Southridge vulnerable as she took only 176, shrinking the lead further. Wings showed good recovery skills early in his turn, and turned those into a 564-point outburst that put Pearl in the lead late in the game. Shaggy couldn't cover the deficit, taking just 144 as the Defenders lost with 1442. The Surfers got 627 from Cowzart to ice the game at 2102 in another dominant home effort. Pearl is still perfect at home and 5-2 overall, while Southridge drops to 2-6, despite a seemingly solid offense.
Tridents Park sponsored by Ford, Pronger: Acorn dropped 985 out of nowhere, making a huge impact to begin the Lighton side of the game. Strawberry faltered with 169 for Pronger in a mediocre showing. Spirit had a meager 64 for the Prestige, potentially leaving the door open a little bit. Hoot squeezed his way through the open door, unleashing 1016 for the Tridents to tighten the game up. Twinkie I had strong bat skills in her appearance, but still ended at 162 as she did get a bit overwhelmed, barely covering the deficit for Lighton. Precious poked 152 for Pronger, maintaining the lead as the game stumbles toward the finish line. Lydia couldn't cover the gap, taking just 115 for the Prestige as they took the loss with 1326. Paps chipped a weak 33 to bring the game to a close, with the Tridents winning on 1370 total. Pronger gets a big win to go to 3-4, while Lighton drops to 4-3 in a heartbreaking squandering of a good start.
Ebay Center, Queens: Twilight crushed 824 for Central in a huge opening effort for this match. Crystal shot back with 243 in a weak response for Queens. Dustin answered with 357 for the Warriors, keeping them in control with a strong showing. Kayla covered a lot of the deficit in drilling 668 for the Flames, making it a close game halfway through. Noelle fired back with 504 for Central, keeping the visitors in control with a tone-setting effort. Max got Queens even closer late in the game, hauling in 631 to shrink the deficit again. Gizmo tacked on another 530 for the Warriors, putting them at a final of 2215 that may still not be enough given the high-octane nature of this game. Paige's 33 cost the Flames big time, as her overzealous effort gave the hosts a loss with 1575. Central has won four straight on the road, moving to 6-4 overall, while Queens is down to 2-4 on the season.
Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: Princess cranked out 564 for Tysini, a reasonably good start for the superstar. Frosty's poor home play reared its head again, as she managed only 112 for Royal after an odd bounce caught her mid-swing. Leandra slammed 546 for the Hummingbirds, as she continues to be the second half of a formidable opening duo for the visitors. Jake grabbed 272 for the Crowns, putting a small dent in the deficit. Charli tallied another 457 for the white-hot Tysini offense. The first of two former Tysini players, Marsell, had a pathetic 57 in his first official appearance against his former team for Royal, likely confirming a loss for the hosts. Bright poked 242 to give the Hummingbirds 1809 as their final in what will likely be a win. Nightfur, another former Hummingbird, disappoint with just 49 for the Crowns, giving them a loss with an embarrassing 490 total points. Tysini's dominance was on full display as they moved to 6-1, while Royal is now 3-2.
The final section will come over the weekend as usual. We'll try to pick up the pace as much as we can in the next two months.
