This segment will wrap up the week and leave just two league-weeks to sort everything out. We begin with...
Microsoft Pitch at Del Sur: These two poor teams will play out the string, with the Gems having a chance to sweep. Smokey had his best outing in many weeks with 434 for Diamond, staking out a nice lead. Panda answered with 538 to give Southern the lead early on. Citrus shot back with 394 for the Gems, keeping the scoring pace pretty strong. Shannon countered with 735 for the Monarchs, extending their lead at the halfway mark of the game. Pedey posted 247 for Diamond, failing to cover the deficit with the mediocre appearance. Kirstin fumbled with 102 for Southern, but their lead is still decent. Cassandra scooped up 608 for the Gems, giving them 1683 overall and forcing a response from the hosts. Nicole batted 417 to give the Monarchs the win with 1792. Southern is up to 18-43 on a fourth straight win, while Diamond falls to 23-38 on their seventh straight loss.
GE Stadium, Southridge: The Pilots seek the sweep in this Center Division match. Valencia came up weak with only 33 for Golden in her poor opening appearance. Boots tapped 160 for Southridge in response, giving them a small lead. Dusty launched 688 in response for the Pilots, producing a much better second attack. Debby took a stab at a ball, but ended up sending it out of bounds, ending her turn with 140 for the Defenders, who are now far behind. Strut crushed 1130 for Golden, boosting their lead to untouchable heights. J. Garcia swung 431 for Southridge, but the deficit is still very large late in the game. A. Charlton added 264 for the Pilots, giving them a final of 2115 in a probably victory. Shaggy had another bad turn with 49 for the Defenders, giving them a loss on 780. Golden takes the sweep to go to 37-24 on the year, while Southridge is 25-34, sitting on the verge of elimination.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades try to keep their streak going, with a chance to sweep the Specters in this game. Slinks didn't have a great turn with only 138 for Harrison. Snowball made a glorious return to form, slicing a crisp 800 for Swordpoint to create a huge lead. Twinkie II rallied back with 584 for the Specters, keeping them in range. Dreamy blasted 1189 for the Blades, extending their lead very nicely. Sydney had a measly 30 for Harrison, and they have virtually no hope for this game. Shawn did little to help the Swordpoint cause, adding 120 as they try to remain steady late in the game. Brownie picked up 304, putting the Specters at 1056 in their loss. Stealth hammered 854 for the Blades, showing his former team no mercy at all as the hosts win with 2963. Swordpoint has won nine straight to get to 40-21, furthering their chances of winning the West Division, while Harrison is 22-37 after the loss.
Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights end their divisional games against the Flames, who want their road finale to result in an upsetting sweep. Crystal didn't impress anyone with 217 for Queens. Terrace City saw Kiwi answer with 519 in a very solid performance from the veteran. Kayla chipped 305 for the Flames, covering the deficit in the smallest way possible. Jennifer hauled in another 552 for the Knights in a solid performance. Max fell with 194 as Queens is struggling to put up a fight for this game. Oreo stumbled with 81 for Terrace City, but their lead remains strong as the final players come to bat. Paige suffered an odd bounce and ended at 152 for the Flames, with their road record frozen at 12-20. Stripes had only 176, but the Knights made it thirteen straight home wins with a final of 1328. Terrace City is 38-21 overall, with a 12-8 division record, while Queens drops to 24-38 and finish their division slate at a paltry 6-14.
Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills need to stave off a sweep attempt without their captain against a West Division rival. Acorn drilled 578 for Lighton against the inexperienced emergency replacement, setting a sharp tone. Celestia held her own with 320 for Todavía, but they'll start from behind anyway. Her aunt Spirit had a mediocre 223 for the Prestige, allowing the lead to slip a bit. Her other aunt, Sierra, grabbed a meager 81 for the Stills as they fall farther behind. Twinkie I spiked 487 to put Lighton farther ahead in the latter stages of the game. Leonardo had 343, but Todavía just can't catch up in this game. Lydia had a measly 57 for the Prestige, putting them at 1345 and potentially leaving the door open for a comeback. Sparkles did just that with 665 for the Stills, carrying them to a win with 1409 overall. Todavía makes a statement in the face of adversity to get to 30-31, while Lighton is down to 34-26 with the loss.
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds look to sweep the Lumberjacks, with a win by the latter shifting the elimination threshold by a game. Fluffina swung 414 for Maplewood in a strong opening attack. Princess belted 1245 for Tysini to give them a large lead early on. Bryant got 460 back for the Lumberjacks, but the deficit remains significant. Leandra batted 424 to keep things steady for the Hummingbirds at the halfway mark. Diddley missed his mark with 176 for Maplewood, and they fall farther behind because of it. Charli answered with 572 for Tysini, and it appears they'll take this game easily. Cubby had no fight, taking only 63 as the Lumberjacks lost with 1113. Bright's 137 sealed a fifth straight home win for the Hummingbirds at 2378. Tysini remains dominant offensively with a record of 39-22, while Maplewood dips below even at 29-30, muddying the playoff waters a bit.
Sprint Pitch, Victoria: These two teams have nothing to play for, but the Specters wouldn't mind completing a sweep. Slinks starting with 96 likely doesn't help Harrison's aspirations. Spice dribbled 256 for Victoria to give them an unsteady lead early in the game. Twinkie II collected 336 for the Specters to cover the deficit, at least for now. B. Chapman struggled with pace on her turn, ending at 341 for the Spurs to regain the lead, but she could have had more. Sydney had the opposite problem, using good pace but a wild swing to pick up 180 for Harrison. Yekaterina had to deal with a very high arcing ball that came down rapidly, and her backhand was too fast, giving Victoria only 187 as they retake the lead in the low-scoring game. Brownie's 131 left the Specters short with 743 in a fourth straight road loss. Kavan did something unheard of on his turn in the website era of the UPCL, hitting 0 as a ball got caught on his backhand early, but the Spurs had the game secured at 784. Victoria improves to 22-39, just a half-game back of the now 22-38 Harrison side.
Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors have a chance to be spoilers against a hungry Cascades team. Jasmine had 281 for Freedom in a reasonable start to the game. Mr. Snowman couldn't get anything going with a measly 12 for Viewpoint Sound. Stinky answered with 465 to solidify the Cascades lead a bit more. Mams got 264 back for the Meteors, but they face a steep deficit at this point. Roxy clobbered 980 for Freedom, likely cementing their lead with the strong performance. Zach managed only 135 as Viewpoint Sound continues to make spectacular messes out of their games. Nikolai iced things with 617 individually to put the Cascades at a final of 2343 in what should be an easy win. Kelly had just 98 for the Meteors, putting them at a sad 509 in the loss. Freedom has a strong grip on fifteenth in the league, standing at 30-28, while Viewpoint Sound has lost six in a row to fall to 22-37.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Cascades cross the map for an East Division battle as they seek to keep their momentum going in the right direction. Jasmine knocked 492 for Freedom this time around, setting a larger lead out early. Shadow kept Web City in range, hitting 382 in a good turn for the beleaguered captain. Stinky slashed another 460 for the Cascades, boosting their lead a bit. Rainmane botched her turn, accidentally taking out her own stumps and ending with 135 as the Spiders fall significantly behind. Roxy had only 122 for Freedom in a somewhat sloppy appearance. Sugar opted to accept her replay, but scored lower with 208 for Web City as things get dire for the hosts late in the game. Nikolai hauled in 373 more for the Cascades, putting their final at 1447 in what should go for another win. Shiny came up well short with 112 for the Spiders, giving them a loss with 837. Freedom is taking care of business, entering a tie for fourteenth at 31-28, while Web City drops again to 26-33.
BMW RockDome, Westside: The Arrows have the chance to sweep, but the Rockers have been dominant at home recently. Sally had trouble establishing a rhythm, scoring 232 for Archtown after taking two false start replays. Misty replied with 320 as Westside will take a narrow lead early on. Sleepy B. covered the deficit with 345 for the Arrows. Goatee bounced back with 384 for the Rockers, restoring their lead halfway through the game. Ruby kept Archtown in the fight, carving out 328 to give them another crack at the lead. Midnight deftly earned a false start replay that yielded 445 to extend the Westside lead again with a player each to go. Dusky's 242 put the Arrows at 1147, which won't be enough for them to avoid a loss. Chicky Phil iced it with 336 to give the Rockers a total of 1485 in their tenth straight home win. Westside is up to 30-31, staying even with the Stills on the playoff bubble. Archtown drops to 23-33, and five teams have collected within a game of elimination.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The week ends with an inconsequential game that sees the Tridents try to sweep the Shores. Strawberry got beat on a deflection and had only 103 for Pronger. Bear answered with a massive 939 for Whitewater to give the hosts a great lead. Hoot flicked 216 for the Tridents, who are clearly struggling to muster energy for this game. Twinkie III countered with 441 as the Shores remain dominant at the halfway mark. Precious got jammed at 144 for Pronger, doing little to help their offense. Cheddar had a weak 20 for Whitewater, but their lead is in no immediate danger. Paps couldn't cover the deficit with 122 for the Tridents, leaving them at a loss with 585. Wild Thing picked up 135, icing the Shores win at 1535. Whitewater improves to 24-37 while dumping Pronger to 20-38.
That's it for this week. I plan on getting more games out in the first half of the coming calendar week. Standings will be updated shortly.
