UPCL Cricket: Week 31 Part 2

We're back for the middle segment of a week that has lagged behind a bit. We begin with...

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: In this East Division match, the Gems are playing their last road game of the year, while the Specters will try to sweep. Smokey got beat with a bad deflection to put up 155 for Diamond. Slinks couldn't make good contact on her turn, ending at 16 for Harrison. Citrus shot back with 729 for the Gems, giving them a sizable lead. Twinkie II pulled back on 475 for the Specters, but the deficit has grown at the halfway mark. Pedey countered with 460 for Diamond, preserving their lead pretty well. Sydney had a middling 264 for Harrison, and it doesn't look good for the hosts here. Cassandra grabbed 192 for the Gems, giving them a final of 1536. Brownie hauled in 472 for the Specters, but they were short with 1227. Diamond's road schedule is complete at 12-20, giving them an overall record of 25-38, while Harrison is on a 22-39 record and five straight losses.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes try to keep their massive winning streak alive against the desperate Stills, who are playing their road finale as their captain returns to action. Easter showed a bit of rust with 240 for Todavía. Smudge had a serviceable 328 for Infinity, giving them a slight lead early on. Sierra shot back with 429 for the Stills against her sister's team, setting up a tight game. Shelley slipped up with 263 for the Torpedoes, putting them behind at this stage. Leonardo added 313 for Todavía, extending their lead slightly. Gabe managed only 168 as he stretched too far for one ball and another one got by him for the takeout. Sparkles went with 173, giving the Stills 1155 as their total, which certainly isn't safe yet. Whiskers did it again, back at it with 503 to steal a Torpedoes win on 1262. Infinity has won 18 straight to get to 38-23, and finish their division schedule at 14-6, while Todavía drops to 30-32. This shaves one more off the magic number for teams still looking to clinch, and secured a playoff bid for the Pearl Surfers.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige again face a team with a suspended player, and they hope for a better result this time. Boots started with 407 for Southridge in a strong opener. Acorn just barely put Lighton ahead with his 410. Rookie-to-be Peach filled in nicely with 401 for the Defenders in her lone emergency appearance, covering for Debby, who was suspended for the rest of the regular season for a DUI arrest. Spirit had good pace but bad aim, ending on 211 for the Prestige as they fall behind. J. Garcia lifted 608 for Southridge in response, extending their lead quite well. Twinkie I turned the game around, slugging 1314 for Lighton to give them a big lead late in the game. Shaggy had only 88 for the Defenders, giving them a loss on 1504. Lydia tacked on 467 to ice the Prestige win at 2402. Lighton is up to 35-26 now, while Southridge is 25-35, becoming officially eliminated on a fifth straight loss.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: A win by the Lumberjacks would eliminate the Sharks, and put three other teams in even more danger of elimination. Graham had only 146 for Eastside to begin this East Division battle. Fluffina grabbed 289 for Maplewood in an average effort that gives the hosts a small lead. Chelsea swatted 582 for the Sharks, giving them a much stronger second effort and a lead. Bryant covered the deficit with 635 for the Lumberjacks, adding a little more to their lead. Taylor never had a chance on her turn, producing a measly 66 for Eastside as their situation grows dire. Diddley didn't really impress with only 105 for Maplewood, but they are still in control with a player each to go. Niki had only 215, and the Sharks lost with 1009, securing their elimination. Cubby posted 394 for the Lumberjacks, giving them a win with 1423. Maplewood is now 31-30, one step closer to the playoffs, while Eastside bows out at 27-35, and they end their division games at 8-12. Now, the power likely rests in Atlantic's hands when it comes to the hangers-on.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Pirates get their first of eight tries to mass-eliminate teams as they search for a sweep of the Union. Delila calmly struck 523 to lead things for Atlantic as they set a strong tone. Juno had a shaky 160 for Modernistic, not offering much resistance. Amber left the door open with only 64 for the Pirates, destabilizing their lead. Ms. Puppy gathered 195 for the Union, cutting the deficit a bit at the halfway mark. Americus countered with 335 for Atlantic, solidifying their lead again. Chimpy couldn't pull back with 144 for Modernistic, and it looks like there will be three more eliminations. Dominic had amazing pace to get 370 for the Pirates, giving them 1292 overall. Puff I got jammed quickly with 57 for the Union, giving them a loss on 556. Atlantic's win brings them to 31-26 on the year, while Modernistic drops to 23-40 in the loss. The Sharpshooters, Spiders, and Arrows are all officially eliminated with Atlantic's win.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves look to edge closer to playoff safety if they can sweep the now eliminated Arrows. Sally churned out 627 for Archtown, failing to let them go quietly as they focus on being spoilers. Snuggle shot back with 728 for Oceanside to put them ahead. Sleepy B. barely covered the deficit with 128 for the Arrows. Bells buried the mistake with 575 for the Waves, making their lead much more secure in less-than-ideal pitch conditions. Ruby couldn't do much either, as her 217 made Archtown fall farther behind. Alyssa knocked another 586 for Oceanside as they run away with this game. Dusky produced 283, but the Arrows fell hard with 1255 in the loss. Pounce capped the balanced Waves attack with 537 to give them a win on 2426 overall. Oceanside is now a win away from the playoffs, with a 32-28 record, while Archtown drops to 23-35.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Swifts have a chance to make third more probable if they can sweep the Volcanoes in the Generations Derby. Boston had only 66 from Patches after a mandatory replay and poor bat work sank her turn. Starlight had only 164 against her older sister, but Pacific will take a small lead. Puff II crushed 1115 for the Swifts, flipping the entire game around with a big performance from the inconsistent veteran. Ms. Kitty couldn't pull the Volcanoes up with 243, and they trail quite significantly. Gradley went out early again with a meager 98 for Boston, a late stain on an otherwise glorious season. Jack launched 767 for Pacific, cutting deeply into the deficit before the final players come to bat. Sweetheart got unlucky with a deflection to give her 82 for the Swifts, and they'll close at 1361. Leonette failed to cover it with 96 for the Volcanoes, and they lose with 1270. Boston finishes the road schedule with a record of 25-7, one of the highest marks in the league, while also going to 43-20, while Pacific drops to 38-24 with the loss.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The West Division gets a spotlight, with the Surfers eyeing a sweep while a Waves win puts them in the playoffs. Snuggle had a dreadful start with a pathetic 33 for Oceanside. Watermelon countered with only 135 for Pearl, making it a low-scoring start. Bells spiked 378 for the Waves to give them a more respectable effort. Neopolitan outpaced that with 487 for the Surfers to keep the hosts on top. Alyssa flicked 326 for Oceanside, covering the deficit but not by a lot. Wings cancelled that out with 330 for Pearl, and they'll carry a lead with a player each to go. Pounce had only 72 for the Waves, and they've lost five straight road games after dropping this one with 809. Cowzart brought a quick end with his 96 putting the Surfers at 1048 in a messy win. Pearl gets the win over their division rival to go to 34-28, while Oceanside is now 32-29, still one win from a playoff berth.

Tridents Park sponsored by Ford, Pronger: This East Division game has nothing but pride on the line. Archtown's Sally made very sure her team would have a good chance with her 1009 to begin the scoring. Strawberry made a number of saves but couldn't calm down, ending at 138 for Pronger. Sleepy B. picked up 359 for the Arrows, adding sufficiently to their lead. Hoot shot back with 447 for the Tridents, getting a bit of the deficit back. Ruby added 395 for Archtown, and they remain firmly in control in this game. Precious couldn't cover that damage, hitting 308 for Pronger as the deficit grows late in the game. Dusky had 214 to give the Arrows a likely victorious final score of 1977. Paps went out easy on 42 for the Tridents, giving them a loss with 935. Archtown's win takes them to 24-35 for the year, while Pronger slides to 21-40, and just a 5-14 division record as well.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Torpedoes will look to keep a magical streak going with this battle against a hapless Flames team ready to be swept. Smudge couldn't get anything going after earning a false start replay, ending at 115 for Infinity. Crystal couldn't cover that deficit, accidentally poking a ball backwards to score a weak 111 for Queens. Shelley shot back with a much more solid 626 to give the Torpedoes a strong lead. Kayla couldn't keep up with 296 for the Flames, and they've fallen behind at the halfway mark. Gabe tapped 240 for Infinity, potentially cracking their lead a bit. Max answered with 320 for Queens, cutting into the deficit slightly. Whiskers had 239 for the Torpedoes, putting them at a final of 1220, which isn't certain to be safe in the end. Paige came up short at 115 for the Flames, and they lost with 842. Infinity has won 19 straight now, and are at 39-23, while Queens drops to 24-39 with the loss, their fourth straight.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns get to play host as the Pilots play their last road game of the year in this Center Division battle. Golden's Valencia had only 80 to start the last game of the segment in a poor way. Frosty put up 240 for Royal in a mediocre performance. Dusty ripped 919 for the Pilots, carrying them pretty far ahead with the strong appearance. Jake had a paltry 81 for the Crowns, allowing them to fall far behind. Strut smacked 557 more for Golden, strengthening their lead again. Marsell fought back with 687 for Royal, shrinking the deficit a little bit late in the game. A. Charlton grabbed 215 for the Pilots, and that gives them a total of 1771 in what should be a win. Nightfur had a tough choice to make on a deflection, and it ended up stopping her at 376, giving the Crowns 1384 in the loss. Golden's division win takes ices their road record at 19-13, and they move to 39-24 on the year, ending their division play at 13-7. Royal is now at 19-42 overall with the loss.

That's it for this segment. There will be an honest effort to get the last segment out tonight, but I make no promises with timing.
