We're back to close out the penultimate week. The first game will be a bit lackluster though, with...
Microsoft Pitch at Del Sur: The bottom two teams have a battle here, where they could end up tied in the end. Frosty began by lifting 641 for Royal in a strong appearance to give the visitors a noticeable advantage early on. Panda slipped up at 240 for Southern, and they'll begin from behind, a familiar position. Jake answered with a big 665 for the Crowns, adding quite nicely to their lead with the effort. Shannon took an early stab at an offering, and it went straight up and out-of-bounds to give her a weak 40 for the Monarchs. Marsell kept the team consistency strong in this one, scoring 632 for Royal as they have this game under control. Kirstin pummeled 883 for Southern in response, making their efforts look a little better. Nightfur swatted 529 for the Crowns, icing their total at 2467 in a pretty thorough performance. Nicole picked up 330, but the Monarchs lost with 1493. Royal retains 32nd place at 20-42, while Southern is likely destined for last now with an 18-44 record.
GE Stadium, Southridge: In another meaningless game, the Meteors will look to sweep against the undermanned Defenders side. Mr. Snowman led off with 458 for Viewpoint Sound in an above-average showing. Boots tapped only 144 for Southridge as things start poorly for the team. Mams added 262 for the Meteors to boost their lead a tiny bit. Solaris couldn't match it, taking only 217 for the Defenders in his emergency relief appearance. Zach came up with 241 for Viewpoint Sound, keeping their lead steady just past halfway through the game. J. Garcia failed to move the needle with 250 for Southridge. Kelly shot off with 279 for the Meteors, giving them a final of 1240. Shaggy served up a rally of 614 points, but it was just shy of a win, and the Defenders lost with 1225. Viewpoint Sound escapes with the win to go to 23-38, ending a seven-game losing streak, while Southridge has lost six straight to get to 25-36.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades may be hitting a wall in their pursuit of the West Division title, as they are hosting the Eagles' last road game of the regular season. Goldy opened with 351 for Everton, not her best effort of the year but solid nonetheless. Snowball couldn't match it, taking only 223 for Swordpoint on her turn. Puff III was thrown off by a slow moving set of bowls, and only had 104 for the Eagles. Dreamy chopped 564 for the Blades, giving them the lead at the halfway point. Cleo only went for 272 for Everton, and they are struggling with the pitch here. Shawn countered with 357 for Swordpoint, giving them a bigger lead with a player each to go. Blizzard rallied with 456 to give the Eagles 1183 overall, forcing a response from the hosts. Stealth did what he needed to with 202 for the Blades, giving them a win on 1346 total. Swordpoint gets the season split to go to 41-21 on the year with a tenth straight win, while Everton drops to 50-13, and closes the road portion of their season at 21-11.
Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights look to keep themselves near the top if they can get even with the Arrows. Archtown's Sally went with 551 at the start, giving them a very good opening attack. Kiwi crushed 1278 for Terrace City in response, giving them a massive lead. Sleepy B. couldn't make contact, ending on a panicked backhand that scored her just 94 for the Arrows. Jennifer shot back with 488 for the Knights, padding their lead quite easily at the halfway mark. Ruby slapped 557 for Archtown to keep them looking competitive. Oreo had a modest 160 for Terrace City on her turn, potentially opening the door late in the game. Dusky couldn't make the push, getting jammed with 208 for the Arrows, which gives them a loss on 1410. Stripes had a weak 112, giving them Knights 2038 in a big win. Terrace City is up to 39-21 on a fourteenth straight home win, while Archtown slides to 24-36.
Apple Park, Todavía: Out west, the Stills are fighting for their lives, facing off with a Hummingbirds side that still could take the West Division. Princess stumbled with 176 for Tysini, a bit of a messy turn for the MVP candidate. Easter answered with 248 for Todavía, still lacking the sharpness she had prior to her suspension. Leandra lined 554 for the Hummingbirds, giving them a nicer lead. Sierra flicked only 162 for the Stills, and they trail at the halfway point. Charli didn't have much more, taking 245 for Tysini as scoring is fairly stagnant in this divisional game. Leonardo didn't gain any ground with a poor 196 for Todavía, as they watch their season dwindle right before their eyes. Bright tapped 256 to give the Hummingbirds their final of 1231. Sparkles came up short with 295 for the Stills, giving them only 901 in a loss that all but assures their season will be over with their next game. Tysini keeps the division title hopes alive by going to 40-22, while their road schedule ends with a record of 18-14. Todavía is down to 30-33, and will need a lot of things to go right to have a chance at a playoff spot, with their division schedule ending at 9-11.
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds have a chance to sweep their bitter Southwest Derby rivals after a high-scoring affair months ago in Lighton. Acorn lost control late and had only 181 to begin the game for Lighton. Princess ripped 792 in response for Tysini, giving them much control early on. Spirit played with a strong pace, but ended with 425 as a ball just got behind her bat, and the Prestige remain behind. Leandra let the Hummingbirds lead falter with only 150 on her turn, making things more interesting. Twinkie I cut deeply into the deficit with 304 for Lighton, getting them very close to catching up. Charli accepted a score of 331 despite earning an optional replay, and Tysini will carry a fairly standard lead into the final players' turns. Lydia picked up 455 for the Prestige, forcing a response from the hosts as they close at 1365. Bright dug in for 208 for the Hummingbirds, putting them at 1481 in a sixth straight home win. Tysini closes their division record at 13-7, while going to 41-22 overall, a half-game back of the division lead. Lighton drops to 35-27 with the loss.
Sprint Pitch, Victoria: These teams square off in a meaningless game here, with the Spurs trying to spoil the Sharks' final road game. Graham cobbled together 344 for Eastside to open the scoring in decent form. Spice gave Victoria the lead on a 352-point effort from the captain. Chelsea split the difference with 348 for the Sharks, giving them an approximately equal lead. B. Chapman faltered with only 64 for the Spurs, putting them behind halfway through the game. Taylor poked 227 more for Eastside to add a bit to their lead. Yekaterina answered with 610 for Victoria, covering the deficit to make it a close game late. Niki posted 391 for the Sharks, giving them a final of 1310, forcing a response from the hosts. Kavan rallied back with 360 for the Spurs, and they took the win with 1386 overall. Eastside's road schedule ends on a record of 12-20, while they go to 27-36 overall, and Victoria is up to 23-40 on the year.
Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Pirates have a chance to shave one more off their magic number if they can avenge an early-season loss to the Meteors. Delila blasted 1134 for Atlantic at the start, likely producing a result right off the bat. Mr. Snowman got only 164 back for a quickly endangered Viewpoint Sound side. Amber added 330 for the Pirates, a team firmly in control of the game. A deflection ended Mams' turn at 192 for the Meteors, a poor performance for the hosts thus far. Americus took 346 for Atlantic, pacing their attack steadily at this point. Zach picked up 281 for Viewpoint Sound in another hopeless effort. Dominic sliced 394 for the Pirates, bringing their total to 2204 in a likely win. Kelly had a reasonable 287, but the Meteors lost with 924 overall. Atlantic is at 32-26 now, while Viewpoint Sound is down to 23-39.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: Heading east, the Pirates get a division game and their first chance to clinch a playoff spot all at once. Delila slashed another 823 for Atlantic in this game, setting another strong tone early in a game. Shadow provided a much tougher opposition with 554 for Web City. Amber pummeled 964 for the Pirates in response, boosting their lead again. Rainmane provided no answer, with a measly 49 for the Spiders putting them far behind. Americus let up a bit with 436 for Atlantic, but they are in no real danger. Sugar rallied a bit with 541 for Web City, but the deficit is still quite large with a player each to go. Dominic put a big cap on the game with 550 for the Pirates, giving them a final of 2773 in what should be the clinching victory. Shiny's 440 left the Spiders short at 1584 in the loss. Atlantic clinches at 33-26 on the division win, while Web City drops to 26-35 overall.
BMW RockDome, Westside: The Volcanoes have never been colder on the road than they are now, potentially giving the Rockers just enough of a chance to get even and keep their playoff hopes healthy. Starlight had a simple 320 to lead things off for Pacific in this game. Misty tried a backhand settle, but a deflection or two stalled her at only 72 for Westside. Ms. Kitty bailed early with 227 for the Volcanoes, but they still lead pretty well. Goatee charged up with 896 for the Rockers, giving them the lead at the halfway point. Jack never looked comfortable in hitting a paltry 187 for Pacific. Midnight served up 327 for Westside, and they look to be in good position to get the win here. Leonette inexplicably froze up on a follow-through, scoring 486 for the Volcanoes as they close with 1220 in the loss. Chicky Phil hit a soft 112, icing the win at 1407 for the Rockers. Westside has won eleven straight at home, which is good news for their final game, and they go to 31-32, getting the advantage over the Stills. Pacific's road schedule ends at 17-15, and they are 38-25.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores have a chance to sweep the Arrows to bring this week to a close. Sally didn't do all that well at the start, grabbing only 180 for Archtown. Bear didn't help his cause with only 75 for Whitewater to create a low-scoring start to the game. Sleepy B. put up just 192 for the Arrows, leaving the door open again for the hosts. Twinkie III couldn't answer, taking a meager 120 for the Shores. Ruby took advantage of an optional replay opportunity, but it proved to be costly, as she got only 128 on the valid turn, and Archtown has failed three times to establish themselves here. Cheddar finally capitalized on the small deficit, blowing it apart with her 495 to give Whitewater the late lead. Dusky had only 160, failing to cover the deficit as the Arrows lose with 660. Wild Thing put up 192 for the Shores, giving them 882 in the win. Whitewater is up to 25-37, passing the 24-37 Archtown side.
That's it for this week, and the standings will be updated shortly. Next week, expect 15 division games and the last three playoff spots to be claimed in the regular season's final week. After that, I would expect the playoffs to commence in May, although there's a small chance they'd start sooner. I do expect Week 32 to begin tomorrow.
