We're reaching the end of week 5, where teams have started to settle into an early-season rhythm. We begin with...
Microsoft Pitch at Del Sur: Two Coastal rivals are set to lead off the segment. Watermelon got off to a good start, producing 424 for Pearl. Panda hit 192 for Southern, putting them behind early on. Neopolitan scooped up another 615 for the Surfers, strengthening their lead significantly. Shannon clobbered 906 for the Monarchs, giving them a narrow lead halfway through the game. Wings faltered with only 112 for Pearl, leaving them vulnerable. Kirstin hauled in 343 for Southern, giving them a slightly bigger lead. Cowzart sliced 710 for the Surfers, giving them a final of 1861 and forcing a response from the hosts. Nicole took just 119, and the Monarchs lost with 1560. Pearl is sitting pretty at 9-2, while Southern slides to 4-10.
GE Stadium, Southridge: The focus shifts to teams at the opposite ends of the Center Division standings. Tigerette brought a close to her road slump with a massive 1043 for Commerce. Boots slipped with 117 for Southridge, as the hosts stand very far behind. Ice Cream tapped 211 for the Tradewinds, a minor addition to their lead. Debby got jammed and mistimed her swing, scoring a meager 25 for the Defenders. Lionel turned down an optional replay after an awkward bounce resulted in his turn ending with 135 for Commerce. J. Garcia made a massive dent in the deficit for Southridge, giving them 743 on a very good turn. Lorde slapped 439 for the Tradewinds, and they finish the game at 1828. Shaggy did well to score 320, but the Defenders took another defeat at 1205 overall. Commerce rights the ship when it comes to road games, going to 9-4, while Southridge is 0-5 at home and 3-9 overall in an uncharacteristically poor season.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: Back in the west, there's another divisional game. Acorn couldn't clear a ball quickly enough, ending up ricocheting it into the boundary and taking only 157 for Lighton in the process. Snowball countered with 292 for Swordpoint, creating a modest lead. Spirit stumbled with 112 for the Prestige, failing to cover the deficit. Dreamy replied with a solid 290, maintaining the lead effectively for the Blades. Twinkie I stepped up with 423 for Lighton, giving them at least a temporary lead. Shawn drilled 314 for Swordpoint, reestablishing a lead as the final players step up to bat. Lydia made a strong push, scoring 417 to give the Prestige a final score of 1109. Stealth showed poise under pressure for the Blades, rallying to 679 and a victorious team total of 1575. Swordpoint is 5-0 at home, 3-0 in division, 8-2 overall, and on a five-game winning streak, while Lighton falls to 4-5, still winless in the division as their losing skid extends to four games.
Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: With this game, every team will now have played in a division game. Frosty began with 246 for Royal, with a strong swing featuring a bit too much flair. Kiwi lifted 304 for Terrace City to give the hosts a narrow lead early on. Jake matched it, striking 304 for the Crowns to keep things steady. Jennifer slammed 542 to give the Knights a stronger lead at the halfway mark. Marsell managed only 120 for Royal, putting them at a disadvantage. Oreo swatted an easy 350 to keep Terrace City in charge of the game. Nightfur knocked 450 for the Crowns, but 1120 total points would not be enough for them to avoid the loss. Stripes launched 569 to give the Knights a final of 1765 in yet another win for the hottest team in the league. Terrace City stays perfect at 7-0, with six of the seven wins in the division, while Royal drops to 3-4 on a three-game losing streak.
Apple Park, Todavía: Crystal produced 393 for Queens in a very solid opening showing. Easter finally got on track for home games, smacking 592 to put Todavía in the lead. Kayla got shut down at 84 for the Flames, keeping them at a deficit. Sierra got cut down by a bad bounce, only able to score 152 for the Stills due to her poor timing. Max likewise suffered a deflection for Queens, as he ended with just 106. Leonardo tapped 208 for Todavía, padding the lead a little more. Paige gave the Flames a fighting chance, ripping 598 to give them 1181 total. Sparkles bashed her way to 341 for the Stills, securing their win at 1293. Todavía is now at 7-4, while Queens takes another dip in the standings to 3-6.
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: Tigerette had another fabulous start for Commerce, belting 909 to establish a large lead in this likely high-scoring game. Princess looked to be in good form, but one bad swing ended her turn at 224 for Tysini. Ice Cream lined an additional 405 to add onto the the Tradewinds lead. Leandra chipped back with 472 for the Hummingbirds, keeping things interesting halfway through the proceedings. Lionel fired back with 487 for Commerce, keeping the visitors in firm control as the game enters its later stages. Charli crushed 1038 for Tysini, with the rookie pulling the hosts back into the fray with a player each to go. Her lookalike, Tradewinds rookie Lorde, hit only 93, giving the visitors 1894 as their final, which puts them in an extremely vulnerable position. Bright did just enough to lift the Hummingbirds to victory, with his 187 producing their final of 1921. Tysini narrowly won to keep their home record perfect, moving up to 8-1 overall, while Commerce falls to 9-5, with their heavy schedule proving a bit taxing.
Sprint Pitch, Victoria: If you had to put a name on it, you could call this the Star Derby. Juno wasted little time for Modernistic, staking out 456 points for their initial showing. Spice managed only 179 for Victoria, putting them at an early deficit. Ms. Puppy accepted an optional replay after a technical error, but it cost the Union dearly when she only scored 69 points on the second attempt. B. Chapman brought the Spurs a little closer, taking 296 on her turn to shrink the deficit. Chimpy reestablished the Union lead by ripping 641 to put the visitors far ahead. Yekaterina got some of it back for Victoria, hitting a very solid 450 on her turn. Puff I couldn't get into a rhythm, taking only 90 for the Union to put them at 1256 total. Kavan blew it in the end for the Spurs, scoring 279 to put them at a loss with 1204. Modernistic jumps to 5-4, while Victoria takes a devastating loss to fall to 2-11.
Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: Kiwi did not show well, failing to stop a ball from just rolling under her bat, ending her turn at 32 for Terrace City. Mr. Snowman took only 173 for Viewpoint Sound, keeping the scoring low early in the game. Jennifer gave the Knights a modest lead by posting 447. Mams could only corral 176 for the Meteors, allowing them to fall behind at the halfway mark. Oreo had a measly 92 to add to the Terrace City lead, keeping them far from secure. Zach put up 216 for Viewpoint Sound, drastically shrinking the deficit to make put all the pressure on the final players. Stripes took a slow and steady approach, which backfired when she ended with 169, putting the Knights at a very reachable 740. Kelly's 159 put the Meteors just behind at 724, and once again everything goes in favor of the Knights. The narrow 16-point victory sees Terrace City to 8-0 overall, while Viewpoint Sound now stands at 3-6.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: The return match is in segment one for next week, so these two teams are getting things out of the way in short order. Valencia couldn't haul in a high bouncing ball, taking only 102 for Golden. Shadow answered with 264 for Web City, giving them a modest lead early on. Dusty pummeled 853 for the Pilots, giving them a much more stable lead. Rainmane pulled back a little too much on her last swing, ending her turn with 256 for the Spiders. Strut launched another 589 for Golden, solidifying their lead very effectively. Sugar chopped 728 for Web City, showing poise to shrink the deficit with an impressive turn. A. Charlton earned an optional replay for the Pilots, but embarrassed herself when she accepted it, scoring a pathetic 8 points to leave the Pilots at a vulnerable 1552. Shiny did not do enough, taking only 247 as the Spiders fell with 1495 total. Golden escaped with a narrow win, going to 6-6, while Web City falls to 2-6 with another brutal loss.
BMW RockDome, Westside: Princess churned out 369 for Tysini to get the game going. Misty put Westside in a comfortable lead, smacking 679 to stake out the margin. Leandra covered the deficit for the Hummingbirds, hauling in a respectable 352. Goatee cranked 504 for the Rockers, extending the lead at the halfway mark. Charli again pulled Tysini into the lead, rallying for a score of 594 to keep the game highly competitive. Midnight had 216 for Westside, just enough to hold off the most recent attack. Bright forced a response from the hosts, hitting a weak 147 to give the Hummingbirds a final of 1462. Chicky Phil left no doubt for the Rockers, slicing 433 to give them 1832 in the win. Westside scored a huge victory over a top team, improving to 3-4, while Tysini's run of good fortune came to a close this time, falling to 8-2.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: These two Urban Core North rivals meet for the first of two consecutive weeks, with the return game at Audi Knights Pitch next week. Kiwi erupted for 1945 for Terrace City, a massive performance that will likely decide the game before it even really gets started. Bear refused to roll over and play dead, striking a strong 600 to send his team a message for their offense. Jennifer erased all that damage, tallying 631 for the Knights as they maintain an unreachable lead. Twinkie III bombed away with 823 for the Shores, shrinking the deficit. Oreo batted a savvy 463 for Terrace City, keeping their leading margin very large. Cheddar kept the pressure up for Whitewater, absolutely demolishing 1228 to pull the hosts within range, given the context of this game. Stripes maintained the high-energy concept, drilling 637 for the Knights to give them 3676 total in one of the most comprehensive team efforts of all time. Wild Thing couldn't complete the improbable comeback, batting only 245 to give the Shores 2896 total in the end. Terrace City has shown all sorts of resilience to get to 9-0, with a 7-0 division record, while Whitewater's misfortune sees them to 4-7.
After that thrilling game, we're all done for Week 5. Standings update to follow, with new division listings and records for tiebreaking purposes.
