UPCL Cricket: Week 12 Part 2

Here's the middle segment for this week, beginning with...

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Torpedoes are seeking a split against an inconsistent Specters side. Smudge led off with 544 for Infinity, giving them a confident start. Slinks countered with 399 for Harrison, keeping them close. Shelley cancelled almost all of it out with 393 for the Torpedoes in response, doing well enough. Twinkie II only had 28 for the Specters, getting shut down with a series of backhand settles eventually backfiring. Gabe corralled 608 for Infinity, extending their lead significantly. Sydney took a measly 124 for Harrison, allowing the deficit to grow again. Whiskers tallied 490 to put the Torpedoes at a large final of 2035, which they expect to win with. Brownie made a disaster of her turn, with just 4 points leading the Specters to a loss with 555. Infinity salvages the season split, leaving the league basement to go to 6-15 on a modest three-game winning streak, while Harrison has lost six straight to plummet to 11-16.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes complete a back-to-back with a soft Flames side rolling into town. Crystal put up a respectable 337 for Queens to open the game. Smudge had a middling 266 for Infinity, keeping the team in range early on. Kayla hesitated too much on her turn, ending up with 256 for the Flames after spiking a ball into her own wicket on a late swing. Shelley rejected an optional replay, banking 960 for the Torpedoes to take a massive lead with. Max got some of it back through his 384-point effort for Queens, but they still face a deficit. Gabe shot back with 576, building the Infinity lead up a bit more late in the game. Paige forced a response by smashing 945 for the Flames, putting them at a final of 1922. Whiskers did enough, poking 213 to end the Torpedoes efforts at a victorious 2015. Infinity is finally clicking, going to 7-15 with a fourth straight win, while Queens continues to drop to 5-18.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: For the first time, these Southwestern rivals engage in a truly meaningful game. Princess lined 582 for Tysini to stake out an early share of points. Acorn pulled in 610 for Lighton, giving them a marginal lead. Leandra fired back with 1222, giving the Hummingbirds a more significant lead ahead of the halfway point. A bad deflection brought the Prestige's Spirit down at just 24 points, likely giving them too steep of a deficit to overcome. Charli tacked on another 447 for Tysini, solidifying their lead. Twinkie I fought back with 664 for Lighton, trying to stage a comeback for the hosts. Bright took in 241 for the Hummingbirds, giving them a final of 2492. Lydia made an impressive rally at the end, slicing 796, but the Prestige fell with 2094. Tysini held on for the win to go to 16-7, temporarily taking control of third in the league, while Lighton is 12-10 as the division gives them trouble.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Union are on the road looking for a sweep after defeating the Lumberjacks at home two weeks ago. Juno took a modest 263 for Modernistic, an average showing for the de facto captain. Fluffina rocked 890 for Maplewood, giving the hosts the big lead early in the game. Ms. Puppy shot back with 497 for the Union, closing most of the gap with a strong showing. Bryant's 42 left the Lumberjacks vulnerable, as his success on a backhand flip was washed out by a slow reaction to a rolling ball that took out his stumps. Chimpy wasted the opportunity for Modernistic, scoring only 224 on his turn. Diddley restored a Maplewood lead, ripping 793 to put them comfortably in front with a player each to go. Puff I couldn't save the day for the Union, with her 408 leaving them short at 1392. Cubby struck 569 to give the Lumberjacks a winning total of 2294. Maplewood is up to 10-9 on a fourth straight home win, while Modernistic's fourth straight road loss sends them to 8-14.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Rockers seek a sweep after an earlier home win over the Union. Misty got things going with 287 for Westside, a workable start for the captain. Juno gave Modernistic the initial advantage with 506, a good showing. Goatee fired back with 724 for the Rockers, testing the togetherness of the opposition with a well-hit turn. Ms. Puppy slipped up with 225 for the Union, letting them slip behind halfway through the game. Midnight pulled Westside away from the fight, ripping 697 to extend their lead well. Chimpy applied a ton of pressure, pummeling 1069 for Modernistic to give them the narrow edge heading into the final players. Chicky Phil posted 455 for the Rockers, giving them a final of 2163 and forcing a response from the hosts. Puff I had just 145 for the Union, and they lost with 1945. Westside gets the season sweep over their Center Division/Urban Core North regional rivals, going to 7-12 by snapping their four-game road losing streak, while Modernistic sees their losing streak hit five games at 8-15.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: Strawberry led off with 472 for Pronger, setting a strong tone for the visitors against a weak hosting team. Snuggle paddled 550 for Oceanside, giving them a slight lead early on. Hoot tallied 420 for the Tridents, restoring a slightly smaller lead this time around. Bells dropped 240 for the Waves, putting them at a deficit halfway through the game. Precious stepped up with 609 for Pronger, solidifying their lead. Alyssa fired back with 755 for Oceanside, giving them a marginal lead again in the back-and-forth thriller of a game. Paps took 192 for the Tridents, leaving them at 1693, a very vulnerable final score. Pounce continued to be a home liability for the Waves, with his 112 giving them 1657 in a small loss, his sixth effort of 200 or less in twelve home games leading to their seventh straight home loss. Pronger's win keeps their momentum up as they advance to 10-12, passing the now 9-12 Oceanside.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes are primed to sweep this season series after a huge win early in the season in Eastside. Graham clubbed 513 to get things started for Eastside. Starlight provided a relentless attack for Pacific, hauling in 752 to give the hosts a noticeable first lead. Chelsea answered with 288 for the Sharks, at least temporarily regaining the lead. Ms. Kitty had a measly 81 for the Volcanoes, flubbing her attack with a sticky pitch. Taylor corrected for her previous road mistake, slapping 576 for Eastside to take a bold lead. Jack's 551 for Pacific made the game exceptionally tight heading into the final players, with the hosts holding just a 7-point lead. Niki had a meager 99 for the Sharks, leaving them at a vulnerable 1476, in what's expected to become a loss. Leonette poked only 201 but it worked for the Volcanoes, giving them a win on 1585 points. A seventh straight win has Pacific at 17-8, while Eastside falls to a level 12-12 mark.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: West Division rivals on opposite ends of the table tangle for the first time this season. Mr. Snowman inexplicably took his hand off the bat to scratch at an itch, ending his turn at 639 for Viewpoint Sound. Watermelon couldn't adjust to the pitch well this game, taking only 24 for Pearl. Mams batted a solid 455 for the Meteors, making this look very much like a trap game for the highly-ranked hosts. Neopolitan got 539 back for Pearl on her turn, but they still face a steep deficit. Zach hit 370 for Viewpoint Sound as they begin to let up a bit nearing the later stages of the game. Wings carved out another 528 for Pearl as they attempt a slow-motion comeback. Kelly couldn't keep her backhand attempt down, scoring a meager 60 for the Meteors, who finish with 1524, far from a safe total. Cowzart did just enough to complete the comeback for the Surfers, with his 443 giving them 1534 in a strong character win. Pearl emerges from a huge scare to improve to 16-7, avoiding an unraveling, while Viewpoint Sound is 8-11, but 6-5 out of the division, with the 2-6 division record causing a large portion of their troubles.

Tridents Park sponsored by Ford, Pronger: The Meteors cross the map to the Eastern Hills from the Coastal region for the second game in their doubleheader. The travel took a toll on Mr. Snowman, who scored just 98 for Viewpoint Sound. Strawberry had a cold start as well, pulling in 162 for Pronger as things start slowly. Mams gave the Meteors a bit more stability with her 416 helping them to gain a temporary lead. Hoot took a bit more time with his turn, but it paid off when he posted 665 for the Tridents to retake the lead with. Zach chopped 328 for Viewpoint Sound, keeping them in the battle. Precious took on 231 for Pronger to gain a small lead back with a player each to go. Kelly forced a small response by taking 240 for the Meteors, leaving them at a final of 1082. Paps kept it simple against his girlfriend's team, tapping 144 to win give the Tridents a winning total of 1202. Pronger has won five straight at home and four straight overall to get to 11-12, while Viewpoint Sound slides again to 8-12.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames look to right the ship against their streaky Center Division rivals. Kiwi suffered through numerous bad bounces in scoring only 82 for Terrace City, a brutal and unfair effort in her eyes. Crystal's instinct backhand cut her turn down at 289 when it put too much pace on the ball, giving Queens a decent lead. Jennifer never fully cleared the pitch in front of her, but she wrangled 457 for the Knights to take a slight lead. Kayla crushed 810 for the Flames in response, solidifying their first lead. Oreo pounded 674 right back for Terrace City, keeping them in the fight. Max countered with a quick 387 to maintain a lead for Queens as the game reaches its late stages. Stripes went all-out in her attempt, but her 264 gave the Knights 1477 total, which likely isn't enough. Paige used 208 to ice the Flames win at 1694 overall. Queens snapped a four-game losing streak, with their attempted ascent out of the basement standing at 6-18 with their first division win, while Terrace City continues to baffle at 14-11, with one never knowing what to expect out of the squad.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The coldest team in the league meets the most tired team to wrap up this segment. Mr. Snowman slammed 536 this time for Viewpoint Sound, making it a crazy three-game run for him. Frosty stumbled with 33 for Royal, allowing them to fall into a familiar deficit. Mams remained solid for the Meteors, contributing 352 in this appearance. Jake fell with 64 for the Crowns, as they face another steep hill. Zach kept things positive with another 423 tacked onto the Viewpoint Sound lead. Marsell managed 176 for Royal, but the game is far out of their reach at this point. Kelly had 375 to cap the Meteors efforts 1686 in what they expect to go down as a win. Nightfur got stunned on a swing and miss at 281, giving the Crowns a final of 554 in their loss. Viewpoint Sound finally gets back on track to 9-12, while Royal is now 6-17, just a half game out of the basement as their losing streak reaches eleven games.

That's it for this segment. This week ran a bit behind, and it may infringe on next week as well. Preliminary rosters for the Club Cricket Challenge, which will run December 21st to January 4th, will be released after the completion of Week 12.
