UPCL Cricket: Week 29 Part 1

We're back as we try to wrap up the season quickly. The first game of the week is...

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: This Northeastern Derby sees two non-competitive teams battle, with the Specters having the chance to sweep. Slinks began with 290 for Harrison in a reasonable opener. Sally answered with 378 for Archtown, giving them the initial lead. Twinkie II shot back with 454 to give the Specters a stronger attack. Sleepy B. pounded out 569 for the Arrows, restoring a lead for them at the halfway mark. Sydney barely covered the deficit with 216 for Harrison, but they are in a vulnerable position. Ruby extended the Archtown lead significantly with her 629, setting them up nicely. Brownie had a solid 335, but the Specters lost with 1295 in this one. Her sister, Dusky, sliced another 536 to give the Arrows 2112 in their easy win. Archtown moves up to 20-31, passing the now 21-34 Harrison side, as well as a couple other teams.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Knights put their lengthy streak on the line early this week. Kiwi had 208 for Terrace City in a bit of a weak start to the game. Delila gave Atlantic a minor lead with her 296 at the start. Jennifer got penalized with a mandatory replay, which scored just 128 as the Knights are straggling here. Amber charged with 719 for the Pirates, giving them a supple lead. Oreo got a lot of it back with 570 for Terrace City, but they're still behind late in the game. Americus slipped with 144 for Atlantic, making it a bit closer even as the hosts hold a noticeable lead with a player each to go. Stripes tapped a weak 130 and the Knights saw their streak end with a loss on 1036 total. Dominic had 21 to end the Pirates win at 1180. Atlantic improves to 29-23, while Terrace City falls to 35-21 as their 15-game winning streak is snapped.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Arrows head onto the road against a Swifts team looking for a sweep. Sally drilled 609 for Archtown to lead things off in solid form. Patches hit 495 to keep Boston close early in the high-scoring game. Sleepy B. saw a deflection go against her, bringing her down with 216 for the Arrows, destabilizing their lead. Puff II batted 490, pulling the Swifts ahead halfway through the game. Ruby couldn't make a significant impact, and her 78 sees Archtown fading fast. Gradley had a poor turn, scoring 181 but keeping Boston in front. Dusky carved up 361 for the Arrows, putting them at 1264 overall and forcing a response from the hosts. Sweetheart calmly did her part with 267 to put the Swifts at 1433 in the win. Boston improves to 39-19, while Archtown drops to 20-32.

Capital City SuperCenter: The Sharpshooters look to keep slim hopes alive if they can sweep the sixteenth-place Lumberjacks with a win here. Fluffina twice turned to her backhand, but the second time allowed the next offering to take her wicket, producing a strong 615 for Maplewood. Chris never had a chance to gain momentum, ending at 9 for Capital City. Bryant scooped up another 426 for the Lumberjacks as their lead is large. Missy picked up 304 for the Sharpshooters in a trying game. Diddley hammered 645 for Maplewood on his turn, securing their lead. Sprinkles had a measly 30 for Capital City as the game has gotten away from them. Cubby had only 57 for the Lumberjacks, but 1743 should be enough to win with. Dani made a rally with 610 for the Sharpshooters, but they took the loss with 953. Maplewood is tied with the Cascades at 28-26 in fifteenth, while Capital City is 26-33, and the gap between in and out has grown to two games.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors clinch with a win, but the Meteors seek a sweep to be a spoiler. Mr. Snowman set the tone with 551 for Viewpoint Sound, providing a stern challenge. Twilight's officially in a home slump, hitting 112 for Central in her third straight sub-200 effort. Mams stumbled with 96 for the Meteors, keeping the hosts in the fight a bit. Dustin had a pathetic 33 for the Warriors, who just don't seem ready for this game. Zach had only 152 for Viewpoint Sound as the game remains quite low-scoring. Noelle cut deeply into the deficit with 450 on her turn, giving Central a chance late in the game. Kelly had a weak 87 as the Meteors finish at 886, far from safety just yet. Gizmo ground out 320 for the Warriors, putting them at 915 in an ugly but workable win. Central clinches a playoff berth at 35-25, while Viewpoint Sound's nuclear meltdown takes them to 22-35 on a fourth straight loss.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Pilots clinch if they can complete a sweep on the Tradewinds, a team who's first place hopes are in a must-win scenario now. Valencia had an unenviable 240 for Golden at the start. Tigerette had her worst home start in months, hitting a measly 32 as Commerce finds themselves in an unusual position. Dusty launched 713 to give the Pilots a stronger lead. Ice Cream shot back with 645 for the Tradewinds, making things more interesting in the second half of the game. Strut tapped 208 for Golden, failing to get much separation against a dangerous opponent. Lionel couldn't answer, hitting 171 as Commerce will need a grand finale in this one. A. Charlton virtually guaranteed the Pilots win, slugging 1046 to put them at 2207 overall in a virtuoso performance. Lorde was solid with 295 for the Tradewinds, but they took the loss with 1143. Golden clinches at 35-22, while Commerce is down to 41-17 after suffering the series sweep against their division rival. If the Eagles win in three games from now, they will secure the first overall playoff position.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Spiders could sweep the Gems in this East Division battle, but recent history doesn't look favorable for them. Shadow crashed with 48 for Web City, another poor start for the beleaguered captain. Smokey also fits that descriptor, as he scored a meager 33 for Diamond. Rainmane covered her captain with 608 for the Spiders to give them a nice lead. Citrus countered with 351 for the Gems, who now trail by a larger margin. Sugar grabbed only 99 for Web City in a poor effort that leaves them vulnerable. Pedey took a measly 66 for Diamond, proving to be no threat in a sloppy game. Shiny managed 209 to give the Spiders a final of 964, which may just work here. Cassandra hauled in 336, but the Gems lost with 786 in one of the least compelling games of the season. Web City snaps an eight-game road losing streak to get to 26-31, while Diamond is 23-35 after suffering the series sweep.

HP Field, Eastside: The Sharks want to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Blades, as the hosts look to hold on to what little hope they have left. Snowball didn't start well with 171 for Swordpoint. Graham hit only 66 for Eastside as this game looks destined for sloppiness too. Dreamy blasted 854 to root the Blades in the lead after the remarkable outing. Chelsea got 388 back for the Sharks, starting off well but fading quickly to her fall. Shawn got confused by the bounces during his turn, ending up with 159 for Swordpoint in a poor showing. Taylor demolished 880 for Eastside, setting up an interesting finish as the hosts have caught up. Stealth replied with 807 for the Blades, icing their score at 1991 and forcing a large response from the hosts. Niki had 296 for the Sharks, and they came up short at 1630. Swordpoint takes the sweep to move up to 36-21 in a three-way tie for fourth place and the West Division lead, while Eastside is knocked back to 26-32.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The British Derby sees the Eagles needing just a win to secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs, but the Prestige look for a sweep after beating the Eagles back at home. Acorn wasted no time in firing off 657 for Lighton against their bitter rivals. Goldy let one get behind her, ending her effort with just 74 for Everton. Spirit never looked comfortable, creating two false starts before swinging and missing to add 192 to the Prestige score. Puff III embarrassed the home fans with a measly 7 for the Eagles. Twinkie I chopped another 472 for Lighton as they pull away with this game. Cleo clawed back with 652 for Everton, but they look doomed to lose. Lydia swatted 579 more to give the Prestige 1900 total in what should be a win. Blizzard leaned back on her last hit, taking 353 as the Eagles fall with 1086. Lighton has kept the Tradewinds' hopes for first alive, improving to 32-24 while snapping Everton's 15-game winning streak at home and 12-game winning streak overall. Everton stands at 47-11 after being swept by Lighton.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Swifts look to sweep a Cascades team in desperate need of a win to avoid slipping toward the red line. Patches had a bad start, taking only 112 for Boston. Jasmine answered with a pathetic 64 for Freedom. Puff II shot back with 166 as the Swifts haven't got much of an offense in this one. Stinky paddled 321 for the Cascades, giving them the lead at the halfway mark. Gradley brought silence to the crowd, belting 2512 to give Boston a massive lead out of nowhere. Roxy, the one-time Swift, hit 248 for Freedom, doing little to mitigate Gradley's damage. Sweetheart tacked on 335 as the Swifts close with 3125 in a stunning win. Nikolai rallied with 659, but the Cascades closed the loss at 1292. Boston keeps their pursuit of second place alive, improving to 40-19, while Freedom drops into sixteenth at 28-27.

Amazon Field, Golden: It's the Sharpshooters' final division game, with a chance to sweep the Pilots. Chris ripped 420 for Capital City to begin the game in solid form. Valencia answered with 504 to put Golden slightly ahead in the early stages. Missy slapped 1007 for the Sharpshooters as the league's offense has opened up recently. Dusty took 312 for the Pilots, but they trail at the halfway mark. Sprinkles added an extra 481 for Capital City, doing well in extending their lead. Strut pummeled 755 for Golden, cutting into the deficit a bit as the final players come to bat. Dani poked a weak 108 to give the Sharpshooters 2016 as their final. A. Charlton got overwhelmed early on her turn, and her 36 left the Pilots short at 1607. Capital City advances to 27-33, and will end at 8-12 for their division slate, while Golden is 35-23 after suffering the sweep.

That's it for this segment, which saw quite a few unexpected results and two clinching moments. More excitement is planned in the next segment.
