UPCL Cricket: Week 30 Part 1

We're into the do-or-die weeks for the teams that haven't secured their fate yet. We begin with a fairly meaningful game in the Northeast...

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: These regional rivals meet with major implications. The Lumberjacks sweep boosts their bid, while the late-surging Arrows could keep hope alive with a split. Fluffina had 146 at the start for Maplewood, letting the team down a bit. Sally smashed 880 for Archtown in a huge opening attack. Bryant unleashed 1068 for the Lumberjacks to retake the lead. Sleepy B. covered it with 666 for the Arrows, creating a high-scoring affair. Diddley had a deflection cut him down with 168 as Maplewood is firmly behind now. Ruby blasted another 1007 for Archtown, cementing their lead. Cubby picked up 336 for the Lumberjacks, but they took the loss on 1718 in a tough battle. Dusky had a quick end with only 57 for the Arrows, putting them at 2610 in a thorough win. Archtown heads to 23-32, while Maplewood falls to 28-28, now in sixteenth place.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The first meeting of the year sees both teams seeking a win to jockey for playoff spots. Snowball flipped 405 to give Swordpoint a solid start. Delila answered with 424 for Atlantic, but had some complaints of a sticky pitch. Dreamy crushed an extra 1478 for the Blades, giving them a huge lead. Amber got a surprising 910 of it back for the Pirates in this electric game. Shawn stepped up with 481 for Swordpoint, supplementing their lead nicely as the game progresses to its latter stages. Americus proved solid with 368 for Atlantic, but the deficit is quite large with the final players coming to bat. Stealth tallied 470, putting the Blades at a final of 2834 in what should go as a win. Dominic fell with 267 and the Pirates finished their loss at 1969. Swordpoint dominated in this game, improving to 39-21 on an eight-game winning streak that has seen them regain first in the West Division, while Atlantic is now at 30-25.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Crowns once beat their Center Division rivals back home this season, and could prove a spoiler again with a win here. Frosty worked with 308 for Royal in a decent effort. Patches started well for Boston, but stalled quickly and had only 81 as they trail early on. Jake added another 328 for the Crowns on his turn, taking their lead a bit higher. Puff II had only 200 for the Swifts, and the home fans are in subdued shock at the status of this game. Marsell failed to gain separation with 124 for Royal. Gradley erased the deficit with 726 for Boston, giving them a noticeable lead with a player each to go. Nightfur got beat with a swing-and-miss at 327 for the Crowns, putting them at 1087, which forces a response from the hosts. Sweetheart did enough with 129 to give the Swifts 1136 in the win. Boston got lucky in this one, and will be thankful not to see this opponent in the playoffs. Boston is 41-20 now, while Royal drops to 18-41 on the year.

Capital City SuperCenter: The Sharpshooters look to sweep a disintegrating Gems side in their second, meaningless meeting of the year. Smokey showed agility in clearing a flurry of odd bounces, but ended with 124 just after things settled, and Diamond starts off poorly. Chris struggled as well, but took 192 to give Capital City the marginal lead. Citrus had a modest 162 for the Gems, but that covered the deficit. Missy broke free with 619 for the Sharpshooters as their lead grows quite a bit. Pedey proved cool under pressure with 512 for Diamond, but he didn't quite catch the team up. Sprinkles pounded 1004 for Capital City, likely securing the win with the well-played appearance. Cassandra hit 314 for the Gems, but they fell with 1112 in another tough late-season loss. Dani tapped a meager 39 for the Sharpshooters, capping their win at 1854. Capital City moves to 28-33, while Diamond is officially eliminated at 23-36 on a fifth straight loss.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Sharpshooters make a trip to end their road schedule against the defending champions. Chris knocked 927 to give Capital City a very strong opener. Twilight put a massive dent in that lead with 876 for Central on her turn. Missy countered with 326 for the Sharpshooters, which might make them vulnerable if the pace remains the same. Dustin batted 476 for the Warriors, putting them ahead at the midway mark. Capital City saw Sprinkles score a meager 28, putting them in some danger of a loss. Noelle didn't take advantage, hitting a weak 20 for Central on her turn. Dani had 162 for the Sharpshooters, forcing a response from the hosts as they close with 1443. Gizmo didn't get a lot with 113 for the Warriors, but they took the win with 1485. Central is at 36-25, while Capital City goes to 28-34, and will finish with a 14-18 road record for the year.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds look to complete the sweep after spoiling the Volcanoes home opener in this battle of very talented teams. Starlight had a paltry 144 for Pacific, not an ideal start given the opponent. Tigerette didn't pull away, grabbing 296 before knocking her own wicket out as Commerce will hold a small lead. Ms. Kitty looked to be on a good line until she misplayed a ball and ended up with 264 for the Volcanoes. Ice Cream slugged 1382 to solidify a Tradewinds lead halfway through the game. Jack had 336 for Pacific as it seems like they won't get this one. Lionel padded the Commerce lead with 416 to keep things steady. Leonette made a comeback effort with 645 for the Volcanoes, but they lost with 1389. Lorde clubbed 893 more for the Tradewinds, making a statement as they finish with 2987 in taking the sweep. Commerce is at 42-17, while Pacific is now down to 37-23.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Cascades have a critical sweep opportunity against a division rival, and the chance to separate from the Lumberjacks in the standings as well. Jasmine didn't have a good start, scoring a weak 48 for Freedom. Smokey had one of his better home efforts of late with 167 for Diamond, a sad statement on his recent outings. Stinky chipped 324 to give the Cascades a better second effort. Citrus faltered with 96 for the Gems in this sloppy match. Roxy did good work with 852 for Freedom, extending their lead to a safer level. Pedey tapped 243 as Diamond falls off the pace pretty badly. Nikolai raked in another 564 to give the Cascades a final score of 1788. Cassandra proved solid with 391, but the Gems took another loss on 897. Freedom moves up to 29-27, more comfortably in fifteenth now, while Diamond is 23-37 with their sixth straight loss as their season appears to be ending with a whimper.

HP Field, Eastside: Neither team has much to play for in their first meeting of the year, and they meet again next week in Victoria. Spice carved out 472 for Victoria as they will start off well. Graham could do nothing about the deflection that ended his turn at 283, putting Eastside behind from the start. B. Chapman mitigated that damage with a similar 274 for the Spurs, holding their lead steady. Chelsea managed 207 for the Sharks, but they lost a bit more ground with that. Yekaterina slapped 729 to firm up the Victoria lead significantly. Taylor slipped up when a ball got behind her, and she tried to spike it, but it went out to give her only 182 for Eastside. Kavan accepted 156 instead of going for a replay, giving the Spurs 1631 in a likely victory. Niki put up a fight with 674 for the Sharks, but they ultimately lost with 1346. Victoria is up to 21-39, ending a seven-game losing streak, while Eastside drops to 26-33 on a four-game losing streak of their own.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: While the Eagles know where they stand, getting revenge for last week's loss in Pearl to the Surfers would still please them and their fans. Watermelon doesn't seem to care too much, striking 472 for Pearl in a strong start. Goldy ripped 659, returning to form after a lapse last week, staking out a lead for Everton. Neopolitan skipped the optional replay she earned, taking 792 for the Surfers instead in a greater second attack. Puff III swung 457 for the Eagles, but failed to cover the deficit. Wings added another 361 for Pearl, giving their lead a little more help. Cleo belted 1081 to put Everton ahead late in the game, a savvy move from the veteran. Cowzart failed drastically with 64 for the Surfers, giving them 1689 in a shocking loss. Blizzard's 96 gave the Eagles 2293 in the win. Everton is up to 49-12, while Pearl falls to 32-26.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades have a good chance of shaving their magic number against the league's bottom dwellers. Panda had only 225 for Southern in a middling start. Jasmine swatted 566 for Freedom in response, giving the hosts a nice lead. Shannon hammered 944 for the Monarchs, giving them a lead with the big performance. Stinky couldn't answer, hitting a weak 96 as the Cascades get into trouble. Kirstin somewhat clumsily picked up another 523 for Southern, extending a significant lead. Roxy tried a three-piece play, but her forehand after the backhand went haywire and put her at only 209 as Freedom is bracing for a loss. Nicole fell with 24 for the Monarchs, but they have 1716 and hope that total will hold. Nikolai looked poised and patient, but watched his strike rate fall when he lost rhythm, and he caved at 639, putting the Cascades at 1510 in the loss. Southern is enjoying the spoiler role, going to 17-43, while Freedom drops to 29-28 after the loss.

Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots can sweep the bubble-residing Lumberjacks with a win here. Fluffina demolished 2138 on her turn for Maplewood, giving them the shot in the arm they've been needing. Valencia started well but had a quick end at 54 as Golden looks ready to surrender this one. Bryant tacked on 619 more for the Lumberjacks in a sterling performance. Dusty shot back with 987 for the Pilots, showing a bit of fight. Diddley chipped 223 but Maplewood has no danger right now. Strut collected 541 more for Golden as they inch closer despite the significant deficit. Cubby hit 319 for the Lumberjacks, giving them 3299 in a big victory. A. Charlton answered with 371, but the Pilots ran out of time and lost with 1953. Maplewood is up to 29-28, pulling even with the Cascades again, while Golden is down to 36-24.

More to come potentially later tonight, or early tomorrow morning.
