We're back with more games. The first in this segment is...
Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: This is the first meeting of the year for these East Division teams. Delila had 167 at the start for Atlantic, leaving much to be desired. Slinks countered with 351 for Harrison, giving them the initial lead in this game. Amber slipped with 113 for the Pirates, and they are struggling to find their swing in this road appearance. Twinkie II knocked another 472 for the Specters, boosting their lead nicely. Americus cut into the deficit with 360 for Atlantic, but things remain grim for the visitors. Sydney ripped 538 in response, adding a bit more to the Harrison lead late in the game. Dominic fell with 51 and the Pirates took the loss on 691 total. Brownie stayed simple with 96 for the Specters, and they won with 1457. Harrison is up to 22-34, while Atlantic gets spoiled down to 29-24, holding onto thirteenth place.
Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes look to keep their long winning streak active if they can sweep the Union. Juno led off with a solid 367 for Modernistic, giving them a decent start. Smudge shot back with 432 for Infinity to give them a minor lead early on. Ms. Puppy swung too early at a ball that caused a dead ball on the pitch to take out her stumps, giving her just 180 to add to the Union offense. Shelley posted 637 to extend the Torpedoes lead quite significantly. Chimpy had a measly 24 for Modernistic, as a ball deflected off the bat handle and out of bounds. Gabe tapped 152 for Infinity, keeping their lead fairly steady. Puff I managed 256, ending on a strange deflection, and the Union suffered defeat with 827. Whiskers struggled with 75 for the Torpedoes, but they won with 1296. Infinity retains the longest active winning streak in the league, stretching it to fourteen games as they reach 34-23, while Modernistic slides to 21-34.
Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige look to lower their magic number and sweep the lowly Flames with this game. Crystal opened with 320 for Queens, a solid outing for the captain. Acorn drilled 832 for Lighton, only stopping after an unfavorable deflection. Kayla hit 426 for the Flames, but she was unable to cover the deficit. Spirit was called for two false starts and a mandatory replay, and then had a weak 108 for the Prestige. Max put Queens ahead with a solid 448, capitalizing on an advantage to make such a move. Twinkie I replied with 423 to keep Lighton ahead with a player each to go in a tight game. Paige, a one-time Prestige player, capped the Flames total with 776, putting them at 1970 with the massive finishing effort. Lydia staved off two waves of danger with acrobatic swings, but the third wave knocked her down with 130, and the Prestige lost with 1493. Queens salvages a series split to go to 24-35 on a four-game winning streak, while Lighton drops to 32-25.
UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks took care of business on the road and want a sweep in a game between East Division rivals that could both use the win. Delila clubbed a big 600 for Atlantic to give them a firm lead. Fluffina hauled in 513 for Maplewood, keeping things close between the teams. Amber added 279 as the Pirates lead becomes less stable. Bryant ended up taking himself out when he couldn't corral a bouncing ball, but his 404 put the Lumberjacks ahead at the halfway mark. Americus replied with 361 for Atlantic as the game gets tense. Diddley couldn't cover the deficit with 200, and Maplewood will have to chase at the end. Dominic had only 84 for the Pirates, leaving them vulnerable at 1324. Cubby fell to a deflection with 160, and the Lumberjacks lost with 1277. Atlantic salvaged a series split, stepping closer to the playoffs at 30-24, while Maplewood is 28-27. Both teams have a lot of games to go, and fatigue is a big concern.
Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: These teams meet with nothing but pride on the line for the first time this season. Sally slapped 484 for Archtown in a strong start to the filler game. Juno crushed 1163 for Modernistic to give them the initial lead by a wide margin. Sleepy B. fired back with 767 for the Arrows, covering the deficit with her appearance. Ms. Puppy allowed things to become very close, hitting a paltry 112 as the Union stumble again. Ruby poked 242, failing to run away with the game for Archtown. Chimpy couldn't give Modernistic the lead, and his 200 left them slightly behind with a player each to go. Dusky scooped up 402 for the Arrows, putting them at a final of 1895. Puff I managed 311 for the Union, and they fell with 1786. Archtown's gutsy win takes them to 21-32, while Modernistic drops to 21-35 after another disappointing loss.
AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Torpedoes beat the Waves early in their long winning streak, and sweeping them would earn a playoff berth. Smudge served up 488 for Infinity to start the game well against a division rival. Snuggle flicked a respectable 376 for Oceanside, but they begin behind. Shelley answered with 445 for the Torpedoes, keeping their lead strong. Bells shot back with 487 for the Waves, cutting into the deficit slightly. Gabe slipped with 128 for Infinity, leaving the door open for the hosts to make their move. Alyssa had 232 for Oceanside, giving them the lead but by a slim margin with a player each to go. Whiskers blasted 834 to give the Torpedoes a final score of 1895, a huge performance that will force a large response from the hosts. Pounce batted only 96 for the Waves, and they fell short with 1191. Infinity makes it fifteen straight wins, clinching their playoff spot at 35-23, while Oceanside misses a big opportunity and falls to 31-25. Ten playoff spots have been clinched, with the other six at least a week out by my best estimate.
Verizon Field, Pacific: It's a critical West Division match with implications for all but the top 10 teams. If the Stills sweep the Volcanoes, the teams in danger of being eliminated get pushed closer to the edge. If the Volcanoes earn the split, six teams get a game closer to safety. Easter went big with her swings but fell early at 227 in a bad start for Todavía. Starlight punished the error with 583 to give Pacific a nice lead. Sierra picked up a mediocre 256 for the Stills, not helping them out much. Ms. Kitty faltered with 209 for the Volcanoes, but their lead remains solid. Leonardo still couldn't pull Todavía ahead, striking 256 as they remain slightly behind. Jack came up big with 439 for Pacific, boosting their lead at a critical time. Sparkles rallied with 432 for the Stills, but they leave shaking their heads in a loss with 1171. Leonette pounded 595 for the Volcanoes at the end, giving them a final of 1826 in their sixth straight home win. Pacific leads the West Division with a 37-21 record, while Todavía slips to 28-31.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: These teams meet again next week in Everton, but the Eagles would like to secure first overall right here and now. Goldy struggled with only 66 for Everton at the start of the game. Watermelon spiked 448 for Pearl as an upset is brewing early in this game. Puff III got stymied with 21 for the Eagles, and the home crowd is in a frenzy for their team's chances. Neopolitan had some issues on her turn, but 231 keeps the Surfers moving upwards. Everton remained mired in misery for this one as Cleo hit a measly 115. Wings added 295 for Pearl in the exciting game for the home fans. Blizzard made an effort with 592 for the Eagles, but they lost with 794, squandering another chance to secure first overall. Cowzart slugged 1208, emphatically capping the Surfers win at 2182 to make the victory seem even more brutal. Pearl improves to 31-25, while Everton is 47-12 and in the closest thing they've had to a slump all year.
Tridents Park sponsored by Ford, Pronger: The Eagles are right back at it, crossing the northern stretch of the map to face the worst team in their own division, as the Tridents would be eliminated with a loss. Goldy suffered a bad deflection and had only 139 for Everton. Strawberry churned out 257 for Pronger as they hold an early lead. Puff III took 296 for the Eagles, but could have had more had she not mistimed her final swing so poorly. Hoot hit only 176 for the Tridents, putting them two points back at the midway point. Cleo stayed calm and pulled in 458 for Everton to create a stronger lead, and she would have had more but a deflection doomed her. Precious had a ball on her backhand, but it slipped off and ended her turn at 215, putting Pronger behind late in the game. Blizzard failed to secure the game with only 144 for the Eagles, putting them at a vulnerable 1037. Paps couldn't do it, taking only 128 as the Tridents lose with 776. Everton will be the #1 seed in the playoffs, and are now 48-12 on the year. Pronger is eliminated at 19-37 with the division loss.
Ebay Center, Queens: The Pilots look to sweep the Flames in this Center Division battle. Valencia laced 532 for Golden, setting the tone pretty handily at the start of the game. Crystal hooked her last swing, but fired back with 389 for Queens in a sharply-played effort. Dusty added 314 for the Pilots, who remain in control. Kayla had only 160 in response for the Flames, allowing them to fall farther behind. Strut left no doubt with 685 for Golden, extending their lead significantly in such a way to pave their way to victory. Max saved a turn by deflecting a ball to the back 4s, but quickly fell at 177 as Queens is overwhelmed in this game. A. Charlton didn't finish well with 25 for the Pilots, but their total of 1556 should be sufficient to win. Paige picked up 320 for the Flames, but they still lost on a final of 1046. Golden is up to 36-23 with the season sweep, while Queens drops to 24-36 as their four-game winning streak is snapped.
Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: These Center Division rivals are playing out the string with their first meeting of the year. Juno went with 227 for Modernistic in a disappointing opener to the game. Frosty nearly saved her turn when she got split, but the bottom ball hit the stumps and she scored 688 for Royal to own a solid lead. Ms. Puppy had plenty of complaints about the pitch in hitting 336 for the Union, which failed to cover the deficit. Jake left the Crowns vulnerable as a bad swing caused him to end his turn at 130. Chimpy covered the deficit with a reliable 369 for Modernistic. Marsell shot back with 376 for Royal to keep the in the lead as the final players come to bat. Puff I raked in 590 to put the Union at 1522, forcing a response from the hosts. Nightfur met the challenge with 361 for the Crowns, putting them at 1555 in the narrow win. Royal is up to 18-39, while Modernistic has lost five straight to fall to 21-36, on the verge of elimination.
If all goes to plan, the last part of the week will be up tonight.
