UPCL Cricket Semifinal: 1) Whitewater Shores VS. 12) Maplewood Lumberjacks

Welcome to the semifinal series post for the Whitewater Shores against the Maplewood Lumberjacks. During the regular season, the Shores swept the season series against the Lumberjacks, averaging over 1500 a game, better than their overall average. The question in this series is "Has the clock struck midnight for the Lumberjacks' Cinderella story?"
Games 1, 2, 5 ,7 (5 and 7 if necessary)
Games 3, 4, 6 (6 if necessary)

Game 1: Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater. Fluffina began by hitting 345 for Maplewood, a reasonably good total given the venue. Bear faltered with 112 for Whitewater, surrendering an early lead to the visitors. Bryant left the door open a bit, misreading a ball to hit 54 for the Lumberjacks in his turn. Twinkie III got some back by hitting 242 for the Shores, making the game a bit closer at the midway point. Diddley tacked on 391 for Maplewood, extending their lead. Cheddar failed to convert on a trick shot attempt, ending at 235 for Whitewater to increase their deficit. Cubby's 216 put the Lumberjacks at 1006, a noticeable decline in offense from the last round no matter the result of this opening game. Jennifer slapped 428 for the Shores, putting them at 1017 and giving them the win by just 11 points. The Legend of Livilotti finally made it's second appearance, giving Whitewater a 1-0 series lead to work with.

Game 2: Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater. Fluffina took a 50% penalty to lead off this game, and after the false start, she scored 113 for Maplewood. Bear crushed 927 for Whitewater, submitting a very MVP-like performance. Bryant took 161 for the Lumberjacks, after being assessed a 50% penalty for a poor swing at the start of his turn that resulted in a false start. Twinkie III drilled another 714 for the Shores, adding onto an already substantial lead for the hosts. Maplewood's Diddley continued their trend of false starts, suffering a 50% penalty of his own and ending up posting 156. Cheddar blasted 956 for Whitewater, turning this game into one of the hosts' classic, stifling efforts. Cubby completed the team-wide false start game by taking one of his own for the Lumberjacks, scoring a meager 49 points to give them a final of 479 in a severe beatdown of a loss. Jennifer chipped 108 for the Shores, giving them 2705 in the big win. Whitewater moves up to 2-0 in the series, taking that lead on the road for the next two games.

Game 3: UPS Ground in Maplewood, Maplewood. Bear led off for Whitewater by slapping a mild 177. Fluffina answered by hitting 351 for Maplewood, giving the hosts the early lead. Twinkie III blasted 551 to give the Shores the lead. Bryant blasted 928 to keep the Lumberjacks in control of the game. Cheddar got 314 back for Whitewater, shrinking the deficit a little bit. Diddley countered with 272 for Maplewood, who firmly lead with a player each to go. Jennifer's 161 was not enough for the Shores to keep their hopes alive for this game, falling with a final score of 1203. Cubby tapped 150 to give the Lumberjacks a total of 1701. With the win, Maplewood pulled themselves back into the series, but Whitewater still controls the series with a 2-1 lead.

Game 4: UPS Ground in Maplewood, Maplewood. Bear returned to MVP form for Whitewater, crushing 920 to open the scoring. Fluffina took 256 back for Maplewood, shrinking the deficit a little bit. Twinkie III added on for the Shores by popping 319 points in her turn. Bryant shot back with 780 for the Lumberjacks, making the game significantly closer at the halfway point. Cheddar answered for Whitewater with 615 points, extending the lead. Diddley faltered with only 96 points for Maplewood, likely ruining the hosts' chances of making a comeback. Jennifer had only 42 for the Shores, but they ended with a strong final score of 1896. Cubby was cut down at 46 after he failed to curl the ball into safety, leaving the Lumberjacks at a loss with 1178. Whitewater has regained their stranglehold on the series, leading 3-1 with a return home in store.

Game 5: Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater. Fluffina got Maplewood off to a poor start in their do-or-die game, hitting only 46 points. Bear didn't fare much better for Whitewater, providing his team just 104 points in what's started as a low scoring game. Bryant continued a recent run of good form for the Lumberjacks, using impressive bat skill to give his team 441. Included in the effort was an impressive backhand deflection to the back 4s that extended his turn. Twinkie III knocked 416 in response for the Shores, making this critical game very close. Diddley ripped 737 for Maplewood, giving them a bit of control in the game. Cheddar batted only 177 for Whitewater, creating a large deficit for the hosts. Cubby tacked on 679 for the Lumberjacks, showing a relentless side to put them at 1903 total. Jennifer dug in with 481 for the Shores, but they still fell with 1178. Whitewater still leads 3-2, and they travel with that lead, which has tended to be better for them than playing at home.

Game 6: UPS Ground in Maplewood, Maplewood. Bear again had a poor showing for Whitewater, hitting only 93 points to begin. Fluffina served up 438 for Maplewood, giving the hosts the early lead. Twinkie III answered by ripping 498 points for the Shores, keeping them competitive. Bryant again showed impressive control of his bat, this time knocking down a high ball to keep his turn alive before submitting 329 points for the Lumberjacks. Cheddar managed 199 points for Whitewater, leaving them in a bit of trouble. Diddley all but clinched the game by slapping 551 for Maplewood, solidifying their lead. Jennifer failed to cover the deficit for the Shores, but her 361 made it look closer as they finished with a final of 1151. Cubby's 69 confirmed the Lumberjacks victory with 1387. Maplewood has done something that did not happen all season: give Whitewater consecutive losses. This latest game means it will all be left on the line in Game 7, with the series tied at 3 heading to Whitewater.

Game 7: Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater. Fluffina picked a terrible time to incur a 50% penalty, taking just 94 points for Maplewood after being caught for a false start. Bear continued his Jekyll and Hyde routine (mostly Hyde, to be honest) with 231 points for Whitewater, establishing a modest lead. Bryant made good contact for the Lumberjacks, but his accuracy was off in scoring only 144. Twinkie III failed to gain any separation for the Shores, scoring only 130. Diddley sliced 320 for Maplewood, giving them a noticeable lead temporarily. Cheddar choked for Whitewater, hitting just 45 points, making that temporary lead more solid. Cubby's 241 put the Lumberjacks at a final of 799, leaving them in reach for the hosts. Jennifer ends up being the goat for the Shores after so many times being the hero. She hit 232, but with a 50% penalty, leaving her team at 638. Without the penalty, Whitewater would have won, but with it, they took the loss and blew a 3-1 series lead to allow Maplewood to advance on a 4-3 series win to play for the Hutton Cup.
