Today should be slightly shorter in terms of games played than yesterday, but we will keep on the expected pace for the round. We begin in...
Toyota Arena, Freedom: Jasmine v. Easter. The first series of the day is 10-ball with the silver cue. Freedom's Jasmine had to work from behind, as Todavía's Easter played very well at the start but couldn't carry that over to the finish when Jasmine's three-ball run-out put her ahead 1-0 in the series. The Cascades' Jasmine clinched the series with a game 2 win, mopping up a missed shot from the Stills' Easter on the 10 to the bottom right to pick up the win that made it a 2-0 series. Jasmine started well in game 3, but she couldn't hold off a four-ball run-out from Easter, which made it a 2-1 series win for Jasmine. Ranked #111 for 10-ball, Jasmine is into the bracket semifinals.
Gillette Center, Swordpoint: Dreamy v. Pounce. The blue cue is up for 9-ball in this series. Swordpoint's Dreamy recorded a shutout in game 1, as Oceanside's Pounce never got to the table when Dreamy ran six balls from the break, ending on a 5-9 combination to the bottom right as she took no chances in going up 1-0 in the series. The Waves' Pounce returned the favor in game 2, sinking all nine balls over four turns, with the help of two scratches from the Blades' Dreamy, to tie the series at 1. Dreamy's three-ball run in game 3 was not enough to take the win, as she missed a 3-9 combination to the top right, and Pounce caromed the cue off the 3 and 5 to take the 9 in the same pocket for a 2-1 series win. Pounce, ranked #114 in 9-ball, will play in the bracket semifinals.
Kraft Forum, Royal: Frosty v. Gabe. The game is still 9-ball, but the red cue is set to play. The players looked fairly stagnant in game 1, but Infinity's Gabe made a small adjustment late in the game and ended up running out four balls to go up 1-0 over Royal's Frosty after a savvy mechanical change. The Torpedoes' Gabe did nearly exactly the same thing in game 2, ending on a sharply shot four-ball run-out to stun the Crowns' Frosty after shooting poorly early on, taking a 2-0 series lead. Gabe still controlled play late in game 3, but not as effectively as before. Gabe got lucky to execute a bank of the 9 off the bottom rail to the top right to defeat Frosty again for a 3-0 series sweep. Gabe is ranked #123 in 9-ball and advances to the bracket semifinals.
HP Field Events Center, Eastside: Taylor Swift v. Patches. The red cue remains at the table for 12-ball. Eastside's Taylor ended up playing too cautiously in game 1, where Boston's Patches had a four-ball run that served her well in getting set to bring the game to a quick end, which she did two shots later for a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 ended with full drama, as the players battled to set up their shots. The Swifts' Patches executed her run first, but the four-ball run that would have ended the game ended in a scratch. The Sharks' Taylor made her final two balls starting from the kitchen, tying the series at 1. Patches did a good job late in game 3 of keeping a fast-shooting Taylor away from the proper angles for her last shots. Patches did give up a late wild-card ball, but her last ball went down easily after Taylor illegally potted her own last ball, and Patches took the series 2-1. Ranked #124 for 12-ball, Patches is set to travel to Tysini to play the Hummingbirds' Bright at Cisco Arena in the bracket semifinals.
Intel Center, Diamond: Cassandra v. Diddley. The blue cue is back for this Accuracy series. Maplewood's Diddley played excellently under pressure, having almost no room for error in game 1 against Diamond's Cassandra, who kept the score tied until a late miss gave Diddley all the space he needed for a 1-2 win to take a 1-0 series lead. The Gems' Cassandra played a more aggressive, defense-first style in game 2, and it worked, as she induced just enough misses out of the Lumberjacks' Diddley to tie the series at 1 with a 3-4 win. Cassandra ended up saving her best for last, dominating in game 3 as Diddley tried to hold on but slipped to an 0-3 loss at the end. Cassandra took the series 2-1, and her #82 ranked Accuracy bid is into the bracket semifinals.
HP Field Events Center, Eastside: Niki v. Wings. Returning to the deep southeast, we have a series of Rotation with the red cue. Eastside's Niki took game 1 by a score of 8-5, having to work a little bit against Pearl's Wings to take the game but eventually earning a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 saw a little stronger game out of the Sharks' Niki, as she cruised to an 8-3 victory over the Surfers' Wings to clinch the series at 2-0. Wings came out of nowhere to take game 3 on an 8-1 win, using an opening four-ball run and a four-ball run-out that featured a second-option sinking of the 11 to take the game. Niki still won the series 2-1, and her #114 ranked Rotation bid is set to play in the bracket semifinals against Stealth of the Blades at Swordpoint's Gillette Center.
Sprint Hall, Victoria: Kavan v. Delila. The silver cue returns to action for a series of Accuracy in the southwest. Game 1 went very well by all accounts, lasting just slightly into overtime, where Victoria's Kavan took care of business after shooting to save his game at the end of regulation, putting Atlantic's Delila down 1-2 for a 1-0 series lead. Kavan had a much easier win in game 2, as the Spurs' newcomer defended well, leaving the Pirates' Delila buried early in what became a 2-7 game that put Kavan 2-0 up in the series. Kavan controlled the pace again, waiting until late in game 3 to force Delila into trouble before winning 2-4 for a 3-0 series sweep. Kavan, ranked #110 in Accuracy, will host Sydney Sierota of the Harrison Specters at this venue in the bracket semifinals.
Nestle's Warriors Hall, Central: Noelle v. Cowzart. The first of two straight 7-ball series in the northeast uses the red cue. Also, documents are currently not being updated due to the league's official computer upgrading to Windows 10, officially. Central's Noelle played slightly better than Pearl's Cowzart in a tough game 1, with Noelle taking a 1-0 series lead after much work. The Warriors' Noelle had better possession in game 2, making a majority of the balls to top the Surfers' Cowzart to clinch the series at 2-0. Cowzart answered with an impressive game 3, dominating the final stanza to produce a 2-1 series win for Noelle. Ranked #110 for 7-ball, Noelle advances to the bracket semifinals.
Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Sleepy B. v. Fluffina. Across the highway, the blue cue is used in the other 7-ball series. Maplewood's Fluffina stepped up in game 1 to take advantage of a mistake from Archtown's Sleepy B., converting the final two shots from ball-in-hand after Sleepy B. missed contact on the 6, which helped put Fluffina ahead 1-0. The Arrows' Sleepy B. again failed to step up when it mattered most, losing game 2 as Fluffina of the Lumberjacks mopped up her miss on the 7 to clinch the series at 2-0. Fluffina kept it simple in game 3, working a three-ball run-out to take the series on a 3-0 sweep. Fluffina advances to the bracket semifinals on her #121 ranked 7-ball bid.
Capital City SuperCenter, Captial City: Missy v. Lionel. Two players representing urban core teams go at it in 9-ball with the silver cue. Capital City's Missy made mistakes early on that Commerce's Lionel capitalized on, but the tables turned with Lionel's illegal contact leading to Missy taking a 1-0 lead on a three-ball run-out to end game 1. The Tradewinds' Lionel got the best of the Sharpshooters' Missy in game 2, battling back and forth before pulling ahead at the end to tie the series at 1. Missy dominated the second half of game 3, winning the series 2-1 on the back of an amazing five-ball run that featured excellent positioning and execution. Ranked #109 for 9-ball, Missy plays on into the bracket semifinals.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: A. Charlton v. Marsell. The red cue is up for 10-ball in this southeastern series. Royal's Marsell took a confident approach to top Golden's Charlton in game 1, good enough for a game 1 win with a strong finish. In game 2, the Crowns' Marsell clinched the series at 2-0, having slightly better play in the middle of the game and doing just enough to top the Pilots' Charlton in the end. Marsell completed the 3-0 sweep with a three-ball run-out to bring game 3 to a close. Ranked #104 in 10-ball, Marsell will next host the Oceanside Waves captain Snuggle in the bracket semifinals at Royal's Kraft Forum.
Chevrolet Center, Everton: Blizzard v. Jasmine. Former teammates do battle with the silver cue in 12-ball to lead off the night session. Everton's Blizzard ended up having the slight edge in game 1, winning with her final two shots after Jasmine of Freedom missed completing a three-ball run that would have won her the game, with Blizzard going up 1-0. The Eagles' Blizzard used a three-ball run in the middle of game 2 to pace her attack, with the benefit of a wild card ball and a poor layout for the Cascades' Jasmine contributing to Blizzard's eventual win to make it 2-0 in the series. Blizzard dominated against an aimless Jasmine in game 3, easily gaining the win for the 3-0 sweep. Blizzard's #113 ranked 12-ball bid will participate in the bracket semifinals.
Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Dani v. Easter. The red cue makes its last appearance of the day in 8-ball. Todavía's Easter made an epic comeback in game 1, capitalizing on an ultra-conservative approach to the 8 by Capital City's Dani to score a five-ball run-out after being way behind, good to give Easter a 1-0 series lead. Dani of the Sharpshooters left no doubt in game 2, burying the Stills' Easter very early on and finishing the game on a five-ball run-out to tie the series at 1. Dani proved that the five-ball run-out was popular in this series, ending the final game in the same way as the first two with just that kind of run, topping Easter near the finish to win the series 2-1. Dani, ranked #104 in 8-ball, is through to the bracket semifinals.
Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Dusky v. Nightfur. The blue cue is on for 7-ball this time around. Archtown's Dusky made the best of a weak effort in game 1, getting the win to go up 1-0 in the series when Royal's Nightfur left the 7 short at the top right for Dusky to tap in for the win. The Arrows' Dusky brought game 2 to a quick finish, scoring a 5-7 combination to the bottom right to clinch the series at 2-0, leaving the Crowns' Nightfur dejected in an admirable but insufficient performance. Game 3 ended in comedy, as both players missed the 7 from short range before Nightfur knocked it in to put Dusky's series win at 2-1. Ranked #92 in 7-ball, Dusky will host Fluffina of the Maplewood Lumberjacks at this venue in the bracket semifinals.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: Shiny v. Ruby. The blue cue gets another appearance, this time for 8-ball. The players went back and forth all through game 1, but Archtown's Ruby showed her experience and pedigree to win the stanza, shooting from distance on her second attempt at the 8, which went to the bottom left to put Web City's Shiny down 1-0 in the series. In game 2, the Arrows' Ruby had to come from behind a little bit, but she stepped up to the challenge and rallied around the middle of the game to put the Spiders' Shiny on her back foot a bit, eventually pushing her around enough for Ruby to take the game and a 2-0 series lead. Shiny worked a seemingly magical four-ball run-out in game 3 to avoid the sweep, positioning herself well on all the shots to make it a 2-1 series win for Ruby. Ranked #117 for 8-ball, Ruby is into the bracket semifinals.
Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Acorn v. Misty. One of the matches with the highest hype concludes our day, with the blue cue again appearing for 15-ball. Lighton's Acorn seemed to have the upper hand throughout game 1, and that held true in the end, as he used a four-ball run-out to finish off Westside's Misty for a 1-0 series lead. The Rockers' Misty looked ready to lose again in game 2, getting pushed around by the Prestige's Acorn, but she flipped the script with a wicked double-kiss on the 15. Misty shot the 15 on a hard cut to the top side, but she didn't get enough on the shot. Instead, the cue came off the right rail and redirected the 15 along the top rail to the top left for the win that tied the series at 1. Acorn did well in game 3, weathering a five-ball run by Misty with a three-ball run-out to win the series 2-1. Ranked #105 for 15-ball, Acorn will travel to Gillette Center in Swordpoint to face Blades captain Snowball in the bracket semifinals.
Sorry about no SCL today, I am having trouble finding the desire to complete the playoffs for that league. I'll try again tomorrow, but no promises.
