UPCL Cricket: Preseason Part 1

It's about time for the Cricket season to get underway. We've changed the preseason format a little bit, to the benefit of the teams. Teams that have returned all players or have just one new player will play one game, teams that have two new players will play two games, and teams with three or more new players will play in three games. No team totals will be posted, so the wins and losses will be estimated. The preseason breaks down to 21 total preseason games this season, the first of which is...

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: Mr. Snowman had only 72 for Viewpoint Sound in a rough first appearance. Acorn answered with 144 for Lighton, giving them a slight edge. Mams only turned in 89 for the Meteors, keeping them in a dangerous position. Spirit took 260 for the Prestige, giving them a stronger lead. Zach pulled Viewpoint Sound back with 239, mixing things up a little bit. Twinkie I could only handle 87 for Lighton, shrinking the lead slightly with a poor showing. Kelly lost it for the Meteors, taking only 32 points. Lydia, a former Meteor who found herself unceremoniously cut this offseason, shot back with 353 for the Prestige to seal the win comfortably.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: Royal's Frosty struck big early on, hitting 359 to lead off the game. Kiwi answered with 207 in her first cricket appearance for Terrace City, as the former Union captain hopes to lead her new team to early success. Jake lined 272 for the Crowns, keeping them in charge of the game. Jennifer pulled in only 190 for the Knights, as they seem to be a step behind in the game. Marsell slugged 619 for Royal, clearly an attempt to endear himself to his new home fans after a questionable cut from the Tysini Hummingbirds. Oreo, two years removed from her time with the Crowns, turned in 543 for Terrace City in an appearance against her former team. Nightfur ripped 441 for the Crowns, giving them a final boost to their lead. Stripes knocked 463 for the Knights, but it looks like the Crowns emerge victorious in their one tune-up game for the year.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: Archtown's Sally, nicknamed Express Bus because she gets where she's going pretty quickly, lived up to the moniker with a quick 580 in the lead-off role. Goldy didn't play as quickly, but she put together 627 for Everton, as the hosts look to shed a long-standing reputation as low-scorers. Sleepy B. belted an extra 431 for the high-octane Arrows offense that already appears to be in form. Puff III couldn't keep pace, hitting 112 for the Eagles as they fall behind halfway through the game. Ruby stumbled with 24 for Archtown, leaving them a bit vulnerable. Cleo couldn't capitalize, falling into the low-scoring Everton trap with just 72 points. Dusky clubbed 311 for the Arrows, solidifying the lead. Blizzard had a respectable 280 for the Eagles, but they fell short to their Northeastern regional rivals.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: Two teams from the biggest cities in the league debuting new looks meet in the preseason first. Boots wrangled only 80 points for Southridge, a troubling start for the long-time captain. Modernistic rookie Juno hit 217 to begin, a modest start for a very determined newcomer. Debby drilled 336 for the Defenders, getting them back on track. Ms. Puppy countered with 456 to keep the Union in front at the halfway mark. J. Garcia kept Southridge in the hunt with a 433-point effort. Chimpy held off the attack with 375 for Modernistic. Shaggy had only 192 for the Defenders, which doesn't appear to be enough. Puff I struggled in her new role as the anchor in the back, hitting 33 in a Union victory during each team's only preseason game.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: This marks the first of a three-game competition between the Cascades, Knights, and Spurs for a preseason title. Kiwi pulled in 105 for Terrace City, a bit of a weak start. Jasmine answered with 225 for Freedom. Jennifer only hit 128 for the Knights, as their road abilities look marginal at best. Stinky took just 112 for the Cascades, keeping things close in the game. Oreo crushed 739 for Terrace City, giving them a large lead out of nowhere. Roxy could only take 192 for Freedom, leaving them far behind. Stripes chipped another 260 for the Knights, keeping them in a comfortable lead at the end of the game. Cascades rookie Nikolai tried to pull his team back in with a big 554 points, but it wouldn't quite be enough, with Terrace City taking the first game of the set.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The first game at the Spurs' new cricket home is the second in the three-game package, in which they try to prevent the Knights from taking the preseason title. Kiwi hit 36 for Terrace City in a weak start. Spice answered with 343 for Victoria, leaving a distinct mark on the game. Jennifer bounced back with 504 for the Knights in a stronger showing. The Spurs fell behind as B. Chapman took only 106. Oreo kept the pace for Terrace City by hitting 153. Yekaterina belted 432 for Victoria, giving them the lead again. Stripes turned in only 117 for the Knights, as they take a loss. Kavan chipped 308 for the Spurs to secure the victory, giving them a chance for the preseason title in the final stanza of the competition, coming later today.

Apple Center, Todavía: Two Coastal region teams do battle in preseason action. Snuggle popped up with 96 for Oceanside at the start. Easter churned out 311 for Todavía to take the early lead. Bells got jammed and took 12 points for the Waves, as their veteran players are struggling already. Sierra snagged 213 for the Stills, but lost it on a failed backhand attempt. Alyssa made a mark with 506 for Oceanside, a good way to gain favor among the new fans for the former Rocker. Leonardo shot straight back with 471 for Todavía. Pounce took another 330 for the Waves, although it likely won't be enough. Sparkles kept it simple, scoring 104 for the Stills to take the game by a slim margin.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: Misty couldn't get settled into her rhythm, ending with 60 points to begin for Westside. Twilight of Central ended up even more unlucky, hitting 39 after a bad bounce cut short her training session. Goatee got the game on track with 392 for the Rockers, a solid preseason appearance for the veteran. The Warriors fan-favorite Dustin produced only 150 for the defending champions, as it looks like they will need to adjust in the upcoming season. Midnight put too much lift in her game, eventually scoring 124 for Westside. Noelle kept things close with 376 for Central, putting the game nearly tied with a player each to go. Chicky Phil batted 253 for the Rockers, giving them a chance. Gizmo swatted 456 for the Warriors, giving them the win in the end.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The finale of the preseason three-team competition is here, with the Spurs holding the chance to take it all. Jasmine opened with 249 for Freedom in their attempt to make it an even competition. Spice launched 359 for Victoria for the early lead. Stinky grabbed just 99 for the Cascades, leaving them in trouble. B. Chapman took 144 for the Spurs in an acceptable effort. Roxy knocked 292 for Freedom, pulling them back into the competition. Yekaterina slammed 630 for Victoria, building up a sizable lead for the hosts. Nikolai poked 204 for the Cascades, but it wouldn't be enough to avoid the loss. Kavan iced the game with 96 for the Spurs, as they claim the preseason competition for themselves.

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: Smokey of Diamond couldn't corral a fast-flying ball, ending his turn at only 20 points for the visitors. Tysini's breakout star from last season and their new captain, Princess, smacked 744 for the hosts to build a huge lead early. Citrus shot back with 439 for the Gems, as she looks to replace the points lost from Olivia's departure on top of her own production. Leandra, a newcomer to the Hummingbirds, hit only 139 for her new team, allowing the lead to slip a bit. Diamond's Pedey hit 112, did little to shrink the deficit his team faces. Charli stalled out with 152 for Tysini, maintaining the lead. Cassandra pulled only 216 for the Gems, as they take the fall in their only preseason appearance. Bright hit a reasonable 295 for the Hummingbirds to seal the win, a very strong total for the seasoned veteran.

Ebay Center, Queens: Two teams that faced no changes in the offseason will meet up for a quick preseason event. Strawberry slapped 497 for Pronger, leading off their new-look batting order for the upcoming season. Crystal hit 401 for Queens, keeping them within striking distance. Hoot poked 162 for the Tridents, maintaining their lead. The Flames faltered as Kayla only took 20 points, leaving them at a deficit. Precious batted 432 for Pronger, continuing to show strength for the only team to never change personnel. Max wiped out every bit of that effort from his club teammate, posting 439 for Queens. Paps got stuck with 44 for the Tridents, making the ending interesting. Paige had 192 for the Flames, making it close but ultimately short.

That's all for Part 1, but Part 2 should get finished in the next two days or so.
