2018 Qualifiers - Day 7

We're set for a new day of qualifying action, the last day before a day off. We begin today with...

The Terrace City Knights stalwart Jennifer Livilotti playing 8-ball with the blue cue. Jennifer didn't make a ball on the break, but she kept good command on her shots, finishing with 21 and just one error for illegal contact. Her misses were productive, helping ease the game along. The Maplewood Lumberjacks' Gabe gets the next game, shooting 8-ball with the silver cue. Gabe had a white-hot start to his game, but he struggled at shooting stripes. He had a few productive misses on intended shots, combined with two balls on the break, but a late error pushed his score to 20 shots in the end. Cobalt of the Stonebridge Wolves keeps the silver cue at the table for more 8-ball. Cobalt didn't make a ball on the break, and he took one error in the middle of his performance before closing it down on 22 shots. The Central Warriors sophomore Mario keeps the 8-ball rolling, playing his with the blue cue. Mario had a rough start with a scratch on the break and not a great distribution for his shots. He ended the appearance with 25 shots and the one error, a middling effort. Finishing the group, Sally of the Archtown Arrows brings the red cue to the 8-ball party. Sally saw a similar effort, with an empty break to start and no clear shooting pattern developing early on. She took one error for illegal contact, and she ended with 23 shots in the appearance.

Boston Swifts superstar captain Patches shoots 8-ball with the silver cue to lead off the second group. Patches left her appearance infuriated, needing 30 shots with three errors included to get through the game after taking an empty break and struggling with shooting stripes. Bianca will try to redeem the silver cue in 8-ball, as the Southridge Defenders sophomore is the seventh player to shoot today. Bianca made a couple of balls on the break, but a tough position early gave her one error, the only one she would take. She finished the game in 23 shots, wasting a strong performance as she chased the 8 at the end. Jack makes it eight-straight for 8-ball, using the blue cue in his second appearance with the Web City Spiders. Jack figured things out, taking no errors despite his empty break not leading to all that much offense. He would get the game done in a clean 21 shots, one of the better performances so far. The Southridge Defenders' Caitlin Woode is next to shoot, making her debut with the team in 7-ball with the red cue. Caitlin had a rough outing, taking 13 shots with one error after an empty break to get through the difficult game. The group ends with Hershey making his career debut for the Stonebridge Wolves in 7-ball with the silver cue. Hershey impressed many with his big shot but soft touch, making the game complete in 8 shots with no errors after working well from making a ball on the break.

The third batch starts with Twinkie III of the Whitewater Shores playing 10-ball with the red cue. Twinkie III had a tough outing, unable to clear and direct shots on the target ball. She took only one error for the game, but she needed 23 shots to clear the table. The Victoria Spurs' Yekaterina Vasilyeva tries her hand at 10-ball with the silver cue in the next game. Yekaterina showed impeccable control in her game, completing the appearance with 12 shots and no errors despite an empty break, which was really her only blemish. Lorde keeps 10-ball going in the 13th game of the day, as the Capital City Sharpshooters newcomer gives the red cue another go in the event. Lorde left the game frustrated by her sloppy play, as she would accrue five errors for various reasons in completing the game in 19 shots. The Boston Swifts star Puff II is set to make her season debut with the red cue in 7-ball. Puff II did everything she could to avoid an error in her game, only to take one right at the end out of frustration of needing what became 14 shots to get through the appearance. She's right back at it to close the group, as Puff II shoots her 8-ball game with the silver cue. Puff II didn't get to quell her anger, needing two errors and 30 shots in this game to compensate for an empty break and otherwise poor shooting pervading through the day's games.

Group four opens with B. Chapman making her North Modernistic Nighthawks debut in 7-ball with the blue cue. Chapman was the first of 25 to go on Sunday after play was halted for poor quality. She made the league look good with 10 shots and no errors after making a ball on the break in the return to play. The Boston Swifts' Puff II comes back into action for her 9-ball game, using the blue cue after being a primary reason for yesterday's halt of play. Puff II simply doesn't have it this year, turning in a third straight dud with 21 shots and no errors after an empty break. Her star status is in question in qualifying. The Everton Eagles star captain Goldy goes next, shooting 9-ball with the blue cue as well. Goldy also continued her struggles in qualifying, but to a lesser extent. She did make a ball on the break, but was unlucky with positioning and ended with 18 shots and no errors. The Swordpoint Blades' sophomore Bandit jumps in for the 19th game of the session, shooting 8-ball with the silver cue. Bandit did get a ball on the break, and despite some early troubles while shooting solids, he got through the appearance in 22 shots with no errors. Ted of the Web City Spiders closes the group with 8-ball and the silver cue. Ted needed only 19 shots with no errors after making one ball on the break and getting a double-pot near the middle of the game.

The fifth bunch sees the Royal Crowns star Kayla debut for the year in 7-ball with the blue cue. Kayla didn't make a ball on the break, but that ended up not mattering much when she completed the game in 7 shots without an error for an excellent season debut. The Pronger Tridents sophomore Spot makes his second appearance of the year in 8-ball with the silver cue. Spot had a rough go of things, shooting well at first but faltering late. His empty break and two errors hindered his ability to generate strings of shots, and he closed at 27 shots. Wings brought the red cue back into the fold, as the Central Warriors newcomer uses it in the 23rd game of the season to shoot 10-ball. Wings pulled off an improbable rally late in the game, pushing his pace harder after taking two early errors. He ended at 16 shots, a good mark, despite the slow start. The Queens Flames' Kyle continues his comeback campaign with the red cue in 8-ball. Kyle couldn't get anything off the break, but he played well during the rest of the game. He had only one error, for illegal contact, among his crisp 21 shots to complete the effort. Rounding out the group, Gizmo makes his Eastside Sharks debut with the silver cue in 7-ball. Gizmo showed off a bit, navigating a touch distribution from his empty break without an error in 10 shots. The impressive effort is sure to please his new fans.

The sixth group gets going as Roxy of the Freedom Cascades shoots 8-ball with the blue cue. Roxy did just about everything right in this appearance, getting two balls off the break, an early run, and taking no errors as she completed the performance in a mere 17 shots. Her close friend Sweetheart, the Boston Swifts mainstay, is next, shooting 7-ball with the red cue in her season debut. Sweetheart had a terrible outing, taking her only error very early but nearly accruing more of them. She had an empty break and chased the 1 around for a number of shots. She would finish with 17 shots, another Boston disaster in qualifying. Up next, Modernistic Union captain Ms. Puppy shoots 9-ball with the silver cue. Ms. Puppy avoided disaster in her game, but the empty break was an early annoyance. She calmed down easily, and shot the rack away in 15 shots without an error, a professional effort from the veteran. Going 29th for the session is the Maplewood Lumberjacks' Gabe, who shoots 9-ball with the blue cue. Gabe also completed his outing in 15 shots, but in a much more adventurous way, with an illegal contact/scratch play and then another scratch to tack on three errors to a good performance. At the back of the group, the North Modernistic Nighthawks' rising star Cheddar plays 9-ball with the red cue. Cheddar struggled early in the game, and after taking one error, it didn't get better. She had a late surge to end at 21 shots, but it was a poor performance regardless.

Group seven is headed by TodavĂa Stills star Sierra, who shoots 8-ball with the blue cue. Sierra couldn't quite make a ball on the break, but she rallied after that, and ended up with no errors and 19 shots in a solid second performance of her year. Whitewater Shores rookie Katharine McPhee gets the 32nd game of the league-day, playing 9-ball with the silver cue. Katharine had her best performance yet, getting a ball on the break and taking just one error over a strong 13 shots to get through a relatively easy rack. Southridge Defenders sophomore Bianca is next, using the silver cue for her 9-ball as well. Bianca tried to finish the game on her first shot with a combination attempt, but that failed. Instead, she settled for 12 shots with two errors before completing the game. Tigerette, the Commerce Tradewinds captain, gets the next game, using the red cue in 8-ball. Tigerette had all the makings of a good appearance early on, but she suffered a lot of misses in the middle, and one error, ending with 25 shots and an empty break to her name for the game. Wrapping up the group, Melissa Benoist of the Terrace City Knights shoots 8-ball with the blue cue in her second career appearance. Melissa put in a wonderful performance, making a couple of balls on the break and then avoiding errors with smart shooting. She ended the game with 21 shots for a good score.

The final group begins with Hannah of the Queens Flames shooting her 8-ball game with the red cue. Hannah struggled despite a good start, taking four errors among her 28 shots to get through the challenging and miss-riddled performance. The Archtown Arrows' Ruby gets the 37th game in the session, playing 8-ball with the red cue as well. Ruby needed only 21 shots in the game, despite her empty break, to get through the appearance, and she considered that disappointing after a late fade that tacked a few more shots onto the score. Following that, Potter of the Pronger Tridents makes his second appearance of the year, continuing the red cue's work in 8-ball. Potter made two balls on the break before promptly taking his first of two errors on his first shot from the run of play. The second error, around mid-game, was a scratch, but he still finished in 21 shots, keeping with a recent theme. The Midland Predators sophomore Fuchsia makes her season debut in 7-ball with the blue cue. Fuchsia made three balls on the break, the 2, 3, and 5, and then needed only 6 error-free shots to get through the rest of a spectacular debut. Cleo will close the day with 8-ball and the blue cue in her second appearance for the Everton Eagles in her return campaign. Cleo had a terrible finale for the day, needing two errors among 29 shots after an empty break to complete the effort.

That's all for the split-day of games. We'll be back tomorrow with a more standard procedure if all goes well.
