Elite Cricket 2018 - Week 1

The middle tier of cricket starts its season today. Playing on Wednesday and Thursday morning, we'll navigate the first week of the season. First up...

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: Ted sits for the Spiders due to a weak preseason, while Charli will begin the year on the bench with a competitive Hummingbirds squad. Shadow battled with a cluttered pitch at first to fight his way to 585 for Web City at the start of the game. Princess had a better pace but took a bad swing to end on 368 as Tysini will start the game in a trailing position. Sugar answered with an even better 623 for the Spiders, getting her second stint with the team off to a great start. Leandra drilled 457 for the Hummingbirds, showing excellent placement despite letting the deficit grow. Jack got beat on a deflection that just lifted the ball over his backhand swing, taking him out at a poor 96 for Web City. Brownie made a nice cut into the deficit with her 446, keeping Tysini's offense fairly balanced to this point. Shiny did well with 433 for the Spiders at the end, bringing them to 1737 overall in their season debut. Paps picked up 344 for the Hummingbirds, a solid outing but not enough to reverse the result, as they lost with 1615 in a competitive opener.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Waves had a tough choice to make in benching Dewey, while Max's poor preseason sees him sit out the Pirates home opener. Snuggle looked as good as ever with 575 for Oceanside in his familiar lead-off role for the visitors. Delila picked up 345 in response for Atlantic, working with good pace but exiting the game a tad early. Celestia had some early struggles with control, but she worked it out and ended the appearance strong with 510 for the Waves. Isabella saw a ball deflect behind her, out of reach of her backhand, as she took a meager 40 for the Pirates. Josie showed great strength and determination for Oceanside as she cranked out 679 in a productive first appearance for the rookie. Steven fired back with 568 for Atlantic, trying to keep them in range to strike should their visitors falter. Jason V. had a shaky 304 for the Waves on his debut, sealing their score at 2068. Klaus couldn't settle into the game for the Pirates, falling with 126 as they take a brutal loss at 1079. Oceanside earned every bit of the win to get to 1-0, while Atlantic has questions to answer at 0-1.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves make a trip home for their home opener, benching Jason V. against the Nighthawks, who rest their rookie Gal to start a four-game road trip. Peach had some trouble with her swing, unable to adjust to the rhythm of the game as she took 369 for North Modernistic. Snuggle got beat on a deflection relatively early on, falling at 256 for Oceanside. Cheddar replied with 529 for the Nighthawks, setting a stronger tone with the second attack. Celestia fired back with confidence for the Waves, ripping 685 at a fast pace to give her side a narrow lead. B. Chapman answered effectively with 545 for North Modernistic, keeping the game competitive and high-scoring at this stage. Josie didn't do so well this time, shouldering a ball out of play to take only 153 for Oceanside. Luigi provided nice padding with 454 for the Nighthawks, bringing their final score to 1897. Dewey put in as much as he could with 546 for the Waves, but they fell at 1640 anyway. North Modernistic looks good early on as they go to 1-0, while Oceanside slipped to 1-1 after a gritty back-to-back.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: Mr. Snowman sits out the Torpedoes' home opener, while the rookie Pauline begins on the bench for the Sharpshooters. Chris laid a good foundation for Capital City on the opening turn, smashing 679 with authority for the early lead. Smudge fired back for Infinity with 608, as the two captains engaged in a nice duel to open the scoring. Missy couldn't quite produce the same attack for the Sharpshooters, falling at 241 in a middling effort. Fluffina put a little more bite on her turn for the Torpedoes, slapping 710 in her debut with her new team. Sprinkles got Capital City back on track with 624, covering the deficit with her energetic performance. Solaris wasted his turn, taking a measly 48 after swinging too early. Lorde did all she could with 584 for the Sharpshooters, bringing their score to a total of 2128 for the game in an impressive start to the season. Shelley quickly found herself under siege for the Torpedoes, and she ended with 223, leaving them at a loss with 1589. Capital City starts 1-0, while Infinity has some worries about depth as they start at 0-1.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows get their home opener, with Sally on the bench surprisingly, while the Waves let the rookie Josie take this one off. Snuggle had a false start and a technical error before poking 314 on his third attempt for Oceanside. Ruby did a bit better for Archtown, batting 416 to give the hosts an early lead. Celestia continues to look like one of the best sophomores in the league, as she churned out 535 for the Waves to give them a stronger second chance at the lead. Sleepy B. didn't get it all back with 433 for the Arrows, but she did enough to tie the game at the halfway mark. Dewey got a little sloppy at the end of his turn, taking 328 for Oceanside in a close game. Dusky pulled Archtown ahead again with her 495, setting up a close finish between the two teams. Jason V. couldn't force a response, dragging a ball into his wicket to end at a paltry 51, leaving the Waves to lose with 1228. Wild Thing snagged another 328 at the end to give the Arrows a total of 1672 in the win. Archtown earned the win to get to 1-0, while Oceanside can't keep up with the busy schedule as they fall to 1-2.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes bench Solaris to end the two-game homestand, while Wild Thing takes a seat as the Arrows travel for the second game of a back-to-back. Sally looked comfortable despite some tough offerings, but she ended up a bit weak at 298 for Archtown. Smudge countered with a stronger 635 for Infinity, showing all of her poise in the attack. Ruby got handcuffed into a backhand, which she flipped too high and out of play to end at 124 for the Arrows. Fluffina accidentally spiked an early ball too high, taking a paltry 16 for the Torpedoes as the game gets sloppy at the midway mark. Sleepy B. put in a challenge with 216 for Archtown, still unable to cover the deficit with the poor performance. Shelley answered with 245, maintaining the lead for Infinity in a low-scoring battle between the two teams. Dusky provided the Arrows with their most forceful attack, swatting 543 to give them a final score of 1181 for the game. Mr. Snowman completed the game for the Torpedoes, his 456 giving them a win at 1352. Both teams are now 1-1 after this interesting battle.

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Surfers have Bright on the bench for their first game, while the Hummingbirds sit Paps for their second home game. Boots struggled at the start of this game, picking up only 144 as Pearl makes their season debut. Princess provided a good challenge for Tysini, swatting 548 to give the hosts a substantial lead. Watermelon pulled the Surfers back into the game with 609 on her turn, a strong performance from one of the co-captains. Leandra had a measly 9 for the Hummingbirds, putting them at a deficit halfway through the game. Neopolitan couldn't give Pearl control of the game, fumbling her way to 58 points for the visitors on a poor turn. Charli showed no resentment for being benched, firing off 759 for Tysini to give them a more confident lead with a player each to go. Beth did alright in her cricket debut, taking 271 for the Surfers, but they took a deep loss at 1082. Brownie had only 128 at the end for the Hummingbirds, but plenty to seal their winning total at 1444. Tysini is up to 1-1 as they head on the road, while Pearl is 0-1 with the early road loss.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows return home to complete the doubleheader with the Torpedoes, resting Sleepy B. while the visitors bench Fluffina for performance. Smudge hauled in a decent 312 for Infinity, not enough to be overwhelming but a solid start. Sally had only 186 for Archtown, giving them a small deficit after the first turn in a low-scoring start. Solaris is a bit cold to start the year, getting beat on a deflection to end at 279 as the Torpedoes maintain a small lead. Ruby had just 98 for the Arrows in response, allowing them to fall farther behind. Shelley stayed in her early rut for Infinity, chipping a mediocre 232 to pad the lead slightly more. Dusky tore things open with 537 for Archtown, making it a 2-point game as the final players prepare to take their turns. Mr. Snowman replied with a big 624 for the Torpedoes, challenging the hosts to make a big response as the visitors close at 1447. Wild Thing couldn't do it, ending on 84 points as a ball bounced off his bat handle and into the wicket to end their offense at 905. After the two-game sweep, Infinity is 2-1, and Archtown is 1-2 for the year.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds and Flames make their season debuts, with Hannah on the bench for the visitors while Rosemary sits out the Tradewinds' home opener. Crystal set the tone with 509 for Queens, a great start from the longtime captain. Tigerette kept an aggressive swing for Commerce, but she bowed out at 227 in a mild start for the hosts. Violetta had to adjust to her backhand after a deflection, and she couldn't complete the play, ending at 328 for the Flames. Taylor got beat on a deflection at 317 for the Tradewinds, her debut with her new team going only partially well. Briana took a hit off the wrist, but she blocked it well. It didn't help in the long run, as she took a poor 207 for Queens. Lionel fought off a cluttered pitch with ease, walloping 640 for Commerce to give them a late lead with the big performance. Kyle forced a small response by adding 224 for the Flames, but they are quite vulnerable at 1268 overall. Niki shut it down with 544 for the Tradewinds, another big effort late in the game to earn the win with 1728. Commerce is 1-0, while Queens heads home for awhile at 0-1.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames are without Briana for at least this game after a wrist issue popped up, while Puff I rests in Modernistic's first game this year. Ms. Puppy popped 432 for Modernistic to lead off the scoring in a stable manner. Crystal fired back with 529 for Queens at the start, giving them an early lead once again. Daisy tried a double hit and didn't get that far, crashing out at 266 as one of the balls deflected up and out of play to harm the Union's offense. Violetta belted a massive 1075 for the Flames, using great pace and a forceful swing to tip the scales definitively in favor of the hosts. Kodiak answered with a solid 405 for Modernistic, but they remain behind after the big effort went against them. Kyle got beat at 133 for Queens, weakening their lead a bit but not to a point of danger. Chimpy suffered a deflection that downed him at 117 for the Union, leaving their losing total at 1220. Hannah stumbled with 192 for the Flames, but she had plenty to cap their win at 1929. Queens is now 1-1 after winning their home opener, while Modernistic drops to 0-1.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames change jerseys to host the Hummingbirds. Leandra sits for the visitors for rest, while Briana swaps in for Kyle to close out the tripleheader for the Flames. Princess showed no fatigue for Tysini with 562 despite a busy opening week of the season. Crystal pummeled 702 in response for Queens, lifting them slightly ahead after the first turns. Charli tried to play a deflection and failed, her 32 leaving the Hummingbirds at a deficit. Violetta didn't match her last result, but she padded the Flames lead with a solid 439. Brownie had her best game so far with 620 for Tysini, covering the deficit just slightly with the effort. Briana swung the bat well but suffered a high deflection to end her turn at 207 for Queens, regaining a small lead with a player each to go. Paps chipped 288 for the Hummingbirds at the end, leaving their final score at a reachable 1502. Hannah surged forward with 383 for the Flames, giving them the win at 1731. Queens survives an unenviable stretch at 2-1, while Tysini sinks to 1-2.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers close out week 1 with their home opener against the visiting Pirates. Boots rests for the hosts while Isabella does the same for the visitors. Delila put together a highly disjointed effort, her first try wiped out on a technical error before she took 192 for Atlantic on the second try. Watermelon couldn't beat that, taking a weak 177 for Pearl in response. Steven pounded 595 at an incredible pace for the Pirates, giving them a much more stable second lead. Neopolitan tried to mount a counterattack, but a deflection cut her down at 367, giving the Surfers a noticeable deficit at the halfway mark. Klaus swept another 627 for Atlantic on his turn, a strong outing from the sophomore to extend the lead. Bright had only 121 for Pearl, allowing the game to get away from the hosts. Max had only 162 for the Pirates at the end, failing to secure the result as they finish with 1576. Beth got pushed around a bit late in the effort and ended with 144, giving the Surfers just 809 in another low-scoring loss.

That's all for Elite in Week 1 action. Tomorrow morning, Premier gets underway.
