Select Cricket 2018 - Week 2

We're back for the second week of the cricket season. We begin with...

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors make their debut at home, with Vincent on the bench, while Cobalt gets rest for the Wolves in this game. Juno had her most commanding lead-off performance of the year, with 623 to get Stonebridge up early in the game. Mams answered with 328 for Viewpoint Sound, shaking off the rust a bit as she halves the deficit early on. Frosty did alright with 304 for the Wolves on the second attack, keeping things steady for now. Hoot carved out 585 for the Meteors on his turn, putting a big dent in the deficit with the effort to keep things close. Hershey looked strong in gathering 527 for Stonebridge this time, restoring their lead to a stronger position. Nibbles rallied with 674 for Viewpoint Sound, the sophomore starting the year hot by covering the deficit. Vladimir had only 256 for the Wolves, leaving them vulnerable despite covering the deficit to end at 1710. Dani played dangerously at times, but her 197 sealed the Meteors' win at 1784. Viewpoint Sound is 1-0 for the year, while Stonebridge sinks to 1-3 with the loss.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks are back at home, while the Sharks play the second of a five-game road trip. Gabe and Gizmo rest in this game due to participation in pool yesterday. Graham had to deal with a cluttered pitch, which tanked his pace and set him down at 264 after a deflection. Whiskers certainly likes her new home, as she smashed 837 for Maplewood to give them a confident lead. Chelsea replied with 457 for the Sharks, cutting into the deficit but not quite covering it. Diddley got some of it back with 286 for the Lumberjacks, giving them a weaker lead at the midway mark. Cubby chipped closer for Eastside with a solid performance of 408 on his turn, keeping their offense steady. Bryant had a poor 115 for Maplewood on his turn, retaining the lead but by a much smaller margin as the final players step up to bat. Salmo had only 207 for the Sharks at the end, his weak debut for the team leaving them at 1336. Summer did her part at the end, sealing the Lumberjacks win with 537 to produce a final score of 1775. Maplewood stays perfect at home, now 2-2 overall, while Eastside is 1-1.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs are back at home and resting Dominic for performance, while the Gems begin a pair of road games with their captain Smokey on the bench. Rosalina had a measly 30 points after a high deflection cut her down early for Diamond. Avril had her first really bad game for Southern, unable to get a pace going before bowing out at 191 for a small lead. Citrus couldn't lift on her backhand when forced to go to it, ending at 157 as the Gems remain behind. Hoppy gained a little more for the lead with 279 for the Monarchs, but the game remains low-scoring halfway through. Pedey picked up the pace for Diamond, lining 476 as he accepted the score rather than take an optional replay for a technical error. Panda got caught in a similar situation with a technical error, but he chose to accept a much larger 824 for Southern, putting them far ahead late in the game. Cassandra gained 561 for the Gems, but it was too late, as they ended at 1224 in the loss. Pounce iced the Monarchs win with 96, not earning himself any goodwill despite the team's winning score of 1390. Southern is up to 2-2 now, while Diamond drops to 1-2.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: Northeastern rivals tangle in this game, with Bryant getting his first game off for the Lumberjacks while Rudolph sits for the Specters for performance. Whiskers ripped 582 with some serious intent for Maplewood, showing strength from the start for the visitors. Sydney still hasn't rounded into form for Harrison, hitting 341 to cut the deficit a little bit early on. Diddley looked better for the Lumberjacks until he accidentally took out his own wicket on a wind-up, ending with 441 this time. Twinkie II had a similar ending at a similar point in her game, picking up 436 to keep the deficit steady for the Specters. Gabe held on with 320 for Maplewood, showing some shaky swings but ultimately keeping a good enough effort. Lexi cut into the deficit very slightly with 414 for Harrison, making things a bit more interesting for the final players' turns. Summer set a high bar for the hosts to meet, slicing 600 to pad the Lumberjacks' score to a final of 1943. Mitchell failed the Specters with a meager 49 points, giving them the loss at 1240. Maplewood rises to 3-2, while Harrison is down to 1-2.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades get their first South Mountains Derby at home, facing a struggling Gems team. Roxy sits for the Cascades, while Rosalina is on the bench for the Gems. Citrus took an optional replay for a technical error, but barely improved with 215 for Diamond at the start. Jasmine couldn't get anything going with 119 for Freedom, lacking pace and hitting the ball poorly. Pedey dragged a ball back on his back-swing, ending his turn at 248 for the Gems, wasting a promising effort. Stinky couldn't capitalize for the Cascades, taking only 144 on his turn in a sloppy first half of the game. Smokey finally gave Diamond something to feel good about with 491, as the captain responds well to an earlier benching. Nikolai continues to be Freedom's offensive heartbeart, crushing 848 this time to pull them ahead late in the game. Cassandra had only 168 for the Gems this time, giving them 1122 and forcing only a tiny response from the hosts. Stripes settled the game with 417 for the Cascades, sealing their win at 1528. Freedom rises to 5-1, surging through the early season, while Diamond is 1-3, still searching for a road win.

GE Stadium, Victoria: The Defenders' home opener sees Caitlin on the bench, while the Spurs will rest every player, starting with Yekaterina, as they play the first of five in a row. Spice had a rough outing this time, a deflection cutting her down at just 60 points for Victoria. Bianca wasn't much better with 212 for Southridge, but she did have enough to give her team the early lead. Sage barely covered the deficit with 164 for the Spurs, getting beat with a deflection as the game remains painfully low-scoring. Debby had just 80 points in a pitiful response that keeps the Defenders narrowly ahead for now. Wario had to go to his backhand early and failed to get anything from it, ending at just 72 points for Victoria, a frustration settling in for both teams. Stephanie had the first thing resembling a good effort for Southridge, picking up 434 to give them a sizable lead late in the game. Strawberry had only 239 for the Spurs at the end, leaving them in a painful loss at 535. Hughbert had only 71 for the Defenders, capping the pitiful win at 797. Southridge is 1-0, while Victoria drops to 1-2 with growing concerns about tomorrow's big slate of games.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters are next to host the Spurs to start a Tuesday night session. Spice rests for the Spurs, while Mitchell sits for the Specters. Yekaterina looked comfortable leading off for Victoria, striking 434 to give them a sturdy first turn. Sydney got a lot of it back with 336 for Harrison, but they trail slightly with that performance. Sage practically matched her teammate in batting 432 to pad the Spurs lead with the solid effort from the aged rookie. Twinkie II answered on 480 for the Specters, the captain making her mid-game push to shrink the deficit. Wario countered excellently for Victoria, churning out 508 to restore the lead for the visitors. Lexi didn't let things get out of hand, snagging 487 in a firm effort herself that keeps Harrison very much in the game as the final players step up to bat. Strawberry faltered at 149 for the Spurs, leaving the door open as they end at 1523. Rudolph barely met the challenge for the Specters, his 269 just poking them ahead at 1572. Harrison sneaks away with the comeback win to get to 2-2, while Victoria is 1-3 and sliding fast.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs are back home for the next two games, resting Strawberry against the Monarchs, who have Avril on the bench for rest. Hoppy had a decent beginning to her first lead-off deployment, but she crashed out at a weak 188 for Southern by the end. Spice picked up 368 for Victoria on her turn, almost doubling the opposition to create a small early lead. Panda played at a good rhythm for the Monarchs in this appearance, pulling them well ahead with his 688. Yekaterina shot back nicely with 624 for the Spurs, mitigating the damage against them at the halfway mark. Pounce crumbled on a deflection for Southern, flicking the ball up and out of play to end at 148. Sage played down to his level, losing a bit more ground as she slipped at 138 for Victoria, who are hanging onto the lead. Dominic surged with 649 for the Monarchs at the end, raising their final score 1673 with the confident outing. Wario sailed a ball a little too high to end at 176, once again giving the Spurs a late loss at 1306 after controlling most of the game. Southern rises to 3-2, while Victoria has a spiraling problem down at 1-4 with the string of consecutive games already a waste.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs switch jerseys, and sub Wario to the bench in favor of Strawberry against the Sharks, who sit Salmo for their first of three in the next four league games. Graham didn't have the best of form for Eastside, but it worked out as he scored a solid 393 to begin the game. Spice seemed to have a good pace going for Victoria, but she slipped late and exited with 431 for a small lead. Chelsea had to accept 384 for the Sharks on her turn after a technical error, uninterested in trying her hand in a replay. Yekaterina got beat by a fast offering, which downed her at 64 for the Spurs as it hopped over her bat, leaving them trailing. Gizmo took advantage of a dangerous backhand that worked for Eastside, rallying to 536 to pad their lead with his strong outing. Sage put in a massive burst for Victoria, clobbering 885 to cover the deficit late in the game. Cubby had 314 for the Sharks to force a response, leaving the visitors at a final of 1627 in the close game. Strawberry fought off the danger with 426 for the Spurs, sealing their win at 1806. Victoria bounces back to 2-4, while Eastside is 1-2 with more to come tonight.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Spurs return to where this stretch of games started, resting Sage this time, while the Defenders sit Bianca for rest from pool. Spice had a decent 263 for Victoria this time, a turn more defined by what those around her are able to do. Debby made her opposing captain look bad, smashing 687 for Southridge in an unfamiliar lead-off role to set a positive tone for the hosts. Yekaterina's 311 for the Spurs was another middling effort from the top-two for the team, keeping them behind. Stephanie looked even sharped for the Defenders, slugging 1063 on her turn to give their lead a massive boost at the midway mark. Wario got a bit jittery on one of his swings, and he ended up lifting a ball back out of play to end at 69 for Victoria in his return from rest. Caitlin's Southridge debut could have been better, but 249 is icing for the lead at this point for the hosts. Strawberry got washed out with a measly 24 for the Spurs, a defeated team taking one more loss at 667 as they struggle to solve Southridge's bowling. Hughbert struck 535 for the Defenders at the end, icing their win at 2534 in a massive victory. Southridge rises to 2-0, while Victoria slips back to 2-5.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Sharks do a doubleheader to end their five-game road trip, benching Cubby for rest this time while the Gems put Cassandra on the bench for rest from pool. Graham got twisted by a dead ball, unable to get in position to counter the next offering and ending at 72 for Eastside. Rosalina pummeled 879 for Diamond in response against their regional rivals, giving her side a big lead. Chelsea also had only 72 for the Sharks, making next game's roster decision quite difficult as the visitors struggle here. Citrus provided a decent amount of padding for the Gems lead, tacking on 444 to their score on her turn. Gizmo picked up an even-worse 52 for Eastside, who seem to be saving their energy for the next game after getting walloped here so far. Pedey continued to keep the Diamond offense steady, posting another 487 on his turn. Salmo's 392 for the Sharks accounts for most of their offense as they take the loss with 588. Smokey knocked another 431 for the Gems at the end, their balanced support giving them a final score of 2241 in the thorough win. Diamond is 2-3 and clearly better at home, while Eastside drops to 1-3.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: Both teams are without their captains, as Mams rests for the Meteors while Graham is on the bench for performance as the Sharks end a five-game road trip. Chelsea should have been called back for a technical error, but the referee missed it, and she launched 652 for Eastside in a much better showing this game. Hoot answered with 545 for Viewpoint Sound, keeping things close initially. Gizmo got beat on a deflection at 144 for the Sharks, leaving them a bit vulnerable after the second attack. Nibbles also suffered a technical error, and he curiously chose to accept 238 on the play, making it a very close game at the halfway mark. Cubby tried to take advantage of the situation, but he poked a ball too high and ended with 169 as Eastside's lead thins again. Vincent didn't dazzle in his first appearance with Viewpoint Sound, but his 273 put them ahead with a player each to go in the week finale. Salmo had a paltry 87 at the end for the Sharks, leaving them at 1052 in the loss. Dani had only 128 for the Meteors, but it iced their win at 1184 in a sloppy finish to the week. Viewpoint Sound is 2-0, while Eastside sinks to 1-4 ahead of their home opener.

That's all for now. A special edition of UPCL Elite cricket will be played entirely on Thursday for their week 2 action. Premier is set to go Friday-Sunday, playing on two of the three days.
