Summer Development League: Division A Week 2

We're back for the second week of A-Division play in the SDL. First up...

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: Coastal is set to host a busy Urban side in this opening meeting. Quincy had a reasonable opening turn with 599 for Urban, setting the tone in a positive manner for the visitors. Bright did a bit more with 769 for Coastal, pulling them ahead after the initial turn. Marsell poked 517 for Urban on the second attack, a nice push to restore a lead for them. Vincent didn't recover all of the damage, but his 400 kept Coastal ahead halfway through the game. Bear couldn't stop a fast offering after getting stuck on his backhand, ending with 233 for Urban. Beth collapsed at 162 for Coastal, another attack causing the hosts to lost some of their lead. Chimpy provided 479 for Urban at the end, giving them a total of 1828. Jason V. fell short at 208 as Coastal took the loss with 1539. Urban is up to 1-2 on the year, while Coastal sinks back to the same record.

HP Field, Midland: Urban continues a bit of a road trip with the second game of the week, facing the Southeast this time. Quincy had another decent performance to begin a game, tallying 447 for Urban on this turn. Fuchsia kept it close initially, taking 431 for Southeast to nearly match her opponent. Marsell slipped a bit at 319 for Urban, unable to keep up with the early pace of the game. Cassie fell at 176 for Southeast, wasting a chance to take the lead for the hosts. Lionel had a miserable return to the lineup with only 42 for Urban, shrinking the lead yet again. Hannah showed some toughness for the Southeast, slapping 448 to pull them ahead with a player each to go. Chimpy showed fatigue with only 80 for Urban this time, leaving them in a loss with 888. Leonardo grabbed 312 to cap the Southeast win at 1367. Southeast is 2-0, while Urban drops to 1-3 with the setback.

Henry Ford Memorial Stadium, Pronger: The Eastern Hills play their first game this week, facing the Coastal squad. Bright failed to make a play on his backhand, ending early at 145 for Coastal in an ugly start. Lize shot back with a solid 362 for Eastern Hills, putting them in the lead to start the game. Dani looked much stronger with 724 on the second attack, giving Coastal something more tangible to work with. Citrus pushed 192 for Eastern Hills on her turn, far from enough to meet the deficit at the midway mark. Vincent made a complete mess of his turn, taking a pathetic 24 for Coastal as he was quickly overwhelmed. Vladimir didn't capitalize, taking only 176 for Eastern Hills in another sloppy game for both sides. Jason V. tacked on 225 for Coastal, giving them a final score of 1118. Cubby rallied with 467 for Eastern Hills, completing the comeback to win on a total of 1197. Eastern Hills rises to 2-2, while Coastal dips to 1-3 on the year.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: Northeast takes their first of two games this week against Urban. Quincy lashed 728 for Urban to get this game going positively for the visitors. Noelle picked up 337 for Northeast in her home park, approximately halving the deficit. Marsell clubbed 841 for Urban in response, boosting their lead greatly on the second attack. Blizzard couldn't do much to combat this, her 333 causing Northeast to slip further behind at the midway point. Bear had just 101 for Urban in a poor turn, but their lead is not considered to be in danger. Mitchell made up some ground with 415 for Northeast, but they'll still need a big finish. Lionel had his best game yet with 305 for Urban, sealing their final score at 1975. Sugar went deep with 639 for Northeast, but it wasn't enough for them, and they took the loss at 1724. Urban is up to 2-3 now, while Northeast dips to 1-1.

IBM Nighthawks Nest, North Modernistic: Urban completes their week with a rematch against the Southeast. Fuchsia had a sloppy start with 180 for Southeast, putting them in a precarious starting position. Quincy misplayed a bouncing ball for Urban, buckling at 89 in an even worse first turn. Hannah belted 1117 for Southeast on the second attack, a massive tone-setting performance. Marsell got a lot of it back on a counterattack of 742 for Urban, keeping them within striking distance. Leonardo had a mediocre 229 for Southeast, keeping them ahead for now. Lionel failed at 106 for Urban, ceding more points to the visitors late in the game. Kitty came up to make an A appearance, scoring 391 to ice the Southeast offense at 1917. Chimpy fought back for awhile, but fell with 225 to leave Urban in yet another loss at 1162. Southeast stays perfect at 3-0, while Urban drops back to 2-4.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: Northeast is back in action in Central, facing the Eastern Hills this time. Lize faltered right at the start and never got back into form, falling with 51 for Eastern Hills. Blizzard put up a solid 371 for Northeast in response, giving the hosts the early lead. Rosalina had a poor 161 for Eastern Hills on the second attack, unable to cover the deficit. Kirstin chipped 324 for Northeast this time, giving their lead a small extension halfway through the game. Cubby dished out 583 for Eastern Hills, a solid performance to make their offense more respectable. Mitchell barely covered the deficit with 147 for Northeast, setting up a close finish for the final players to decide. Cobalt's first SDL appearance ended with 263 for Eastern Hills, setting their final score at 1058. Sugar served up 458 for Northeast, capping their win at 1300. Northeast is 2-1, while Eastern Hills steps back to 2-3.

That's all for this week in the A Division. B Division play is scheduled for Monday morning, with the return of Tournament play expected to follow that.
