Tournament X - First Round Day 24

We've got a fairly standard day ahead, beginning with...

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Puff III v. Watermelon. Enterprise club-mates meet in 13-ball with the red cue to start the day. Everton's Puff III had a four-ball run to start game 1, but Pearl's Watermelon kept it close with a three-ball run in response. Watermelon later made a four-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Watermelon built up a good lead on stripes quickly in game 2, and the Eagles' Puff III wasn't able to strike back at all. Watermelon patiently waited for a chance to get the win, and that was enough for her to clinch the series at 2-0. Watermelon and Puff III played evenly in game 3, battling to a stalemate at the top right. Puff III broke through it and eventually got the win, while Watermelon's 2-1 series win sets her up to visit North Modernistic Nighthawks star Cheddar in the second round.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Wings. Hughbert. The green cue draws in for 9-ball. Tysini's Hughbert rattled off a four-ball run in the middle of game 1, but his miss on the 8 left a pair of shots for Pearl's Wings to convert for the win. Wings obliged, and took a 1-0 series lead in the process. The Surfers' Wings made a pair on the break in game 2. The Hummingbirds' Hughbert fired back with a three-ball run, but Wings would respond with a four-ball run-out that included a kick on the 6 and a bank on the 9 for the win. Wings clinched the series at 2-0. Wings did well early in game 3, but a flubbed shot on the 4 allowed Hughbert to execute a six-ball run-out. Wings settled for a 2-1 series win to take him into the second round.

Toyota Arena, Freedom: Nikolai v. Princess. The purple cue's first appearance today is in Accuracy. Freedom's Nikolai failed to punish Viewpoint Sound's Princess for her mistakes. This would hurt Nikolai, whose late miss set up Princess for the 3-4 win and 1-0 series lead. The Meteors' Princess would use a double-pot early in game 2 to gain the last-shot advantage. It was a perk she didn't need, as the Cascades' Nikolai slipped behind early. Princess held a perfect performance for the 0-2 win that sealed the series at 2-0. Princess had a couple of scratches in game 3, which set back her performance a bit too much. Nikolai was strong at the end for a 2-3 win to cut Princess' series win to 2-1. Princess is set to appear in the second round.

Nissan Hall, Infinity: Shelley v. Roxy. The blue cue draws in for a 9-ball series. Infinity's Shelley wasn't bad at the start of game 1, but she had no control at the end. Freedom's Roxy locked in and converted a five-ball run-out for the win, giving her a 1-0 lead in the series. The roles reversed in game 2, as it was the Torpedoes' Shelley who posted a five-ball run. She missed the 9, but the Cascades' Roxy also cut it thin toward the top left for a miss. Shelley then converted for the win to tie the series at 1. Shelley was all offense in game 3, a four-ball run early on supplemented by a five-ball run-out as she shut out Roxy for the 2-1 series win. Shelley advances to the second round.

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Cobalt v. Charli. The purple cue returns for 13-ball. Tysini's Charli helped Viewpoint Sound's Cobalt out of a tough position early in game 1 by spotting him a ball. Cobalt took it slow at the end, but just beat out Charli for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Hummingbirds' Charli had a strong offense at the start of game 2, but a scratch slowed her down and she couldn't line up her last ball at the top side. The Meteors' Cobalt patiently assembled his final run, a four-ball blast to snag the win that secured the series at 2-0. Cobalt made two solids to the same pocket on the game 3 break, as well as a stripe. Cobalt chose to stick with solids, but Charli made good work of stripes for the win. Cobalt won the series 2-1 and will welcome Coastal rival and Southern Monarchs rookie Molly in the second round.

Apple Center, Todavía: Pedey v. Kitty. Down the shore, the silver cue is up for 15-ball. Todavía's Pedey tried to make an impact early, but it was all Midland's Kitty down the stretch in game 1. Kitty had a six-ball run and a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Stills' Pedey turned things around with a six-ball run early in game 2. The Predators' Kitty tried to fight back but faltered late as Pedey buried a three-ball run-out for the win. This tied the series at 1. Pedey continued to show a lot of offense early in game 3, but he wasn't able to complete the effort. Kitty took the 15 to the bottom left for the win and 2-1 series win. She'll visit Reality club-mate and Tysini Hummingbirds newcomer Sugar in the second round.

Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Sydney S. v. Kiwi. The blue cue gets a turn in 13-ball. Harrison's Sydney S. made a good start in game 1, but a five-ball run from Terrace City's Kiwi gave the visitor momentum. Kiwi later made a pair for the win to go ahead 1-0 in the series. The Knights' Kiwi made one of each in game 2 and rode with stripes. The Specters' Sydney S. got caught out of position fairly quickly and could only attempt to slow Kiwi down for a bit. Kiwi still got the win and secured the series at 2-0 with patient play. Kiwi showed no mercy in game 3, keeping her offense well ahead of Sydney S. Kiwi had no trouble in earning the win for a 3-0 series sweep to put herself in the second round.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Puff III v. Puff I. In 15-ball, the host gets a second look today using the purple cue. Everton's Puff III had a four-ball run early on and made a pair to win the game after Modernistic's Puff I scratched on her lone shot. Puff III put the 6-15 combination in the bottom left to pull ahead 1-0 in the series. The Union's Puff I found a groove with a five-ball run in the middle of game 2. The Eagles' Puff III got closer with a four-ball run near the end, but the 15 evaded her at the top side. Puff I knocked it in for the win to tie the series at 1. Puff III had a lot of momentum early on, then faded near the end as Puff I picked up her pace. A close finish in game 3 saw Puff III tap the 15 to the top right for the win and 2-1 series win. Puff III advances to the second round.

Nissan Hall, Infinity: Fluffina v. Pedey. The silver cue's last appearance today is in 7-ball. Todavía's Pedey had a four-ball run early in game 1, but he missed on the 5. Infinity's Fluffina took over from here for a three-ball run-out, giving her a 1-0 series lead. The Torpedoes' Fluffina had a much choppier effort in game 2, failing to put together a run. The Stills' Pedey filled the gaps this time, including the final pair of shots for the win to tie the series at 1 game apiece. Pedey had a lot of the early offense, but he faltered when he got down to the 6, missing it on a kick. Fluffina took advantage of that to make a pair at the end for the win and 2-1 series win. Fluffina will continue into the second round.

Gillette Center, Swordpoint: Dreamy v. Maison. A veteran and a rookie battle in 7-ball with the green cue. Eastside's Maison didn't make much of an impact in game 1. Swordpoint's Dreamy was unchallenged with her four-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. Game 2 was a bit of a slow battle between the two players. The Sharks' Maison again failed to impress, rarely connecting well on his shots. The Blades' Dreamy buried a pair for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Maison made improvements in game 3, but it didn't help him when he missed on the 7. Dreamy knocked it down to complete her 3-0 series sweep that pushes her into the second round.

Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Dusty v. Leandra. The green cue gets another 7-ball series. Golden's Dusty opened game 1 on a three-ball run, but it was a four-ball run-out, including a lucky second option on the 5, that propelled Tysini's Leandra into a 1-0 series lead. After the Hummingbirds' Leandra started game 2 with a three-ball run, things were a bit choppy. The Pilots' Dusty didn't mind that, as she scooped up the 7 to the top right at the end for the win to tie the series at 1. Leandra couldn't get back on track in game 3 either, eventually falling as Dusty made a three-ball run-out for the win and 2-1 series win. Dusty heads off to the second round.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Wario v. Kirstin. The red cue exits the day in Rotation. Southridge's Wario mostly took things one shot at a time in game 1, slowly building his way forward. Stonebridge's Kirstin made just a double-pot, while Wario finished off an 8-2 win for the 1-0 series lead soon after. The Defenders' Wario was a little sharper on offense in game 2, but the Wolves' Kirstin provided a much stronger challenge as well. Wario had to battle for the 8-6 win, which sealed the series in his favor at 2-0. Wario started and ended game 3 with three-ball runs, which was more than Kirstin had in total. Wario won this one 8-2 to sweep the series 3-0. He'll host Infinity Torpedoes rookie Blaze in the second round.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Lorde v. Daisy. It's time for 8-ball with the blue cue. Capital City's Lorde had a couple of shorter runs to build momentum in game 1. Modernistic's Daisy couldn't answer the latter one, and Lorde took the 8 to the bottom left to finish off her win for a 1-0 lead in the series. The Sharpshooters' Lorde was much worse in game 2, scratching before she potted a ball. The Union's Daisy used that to spark a five-ball run, and she made the 8 on the next turn for the win to tie the series at 1. Lorde returned to form quite well in game 3, needing only three turns to find her way to the win and 2-1 series win over Daisy, who had a chance to counterattack before a miss. Lorde moves on to the second round.

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Dani v. Tigerette. The blue cue stays on for Rotation. Viewpoint Sound's Dani got some lucky bounces early on, but she was good on her own terms later on. Commerce's Tigerette fell far short as Dani got the 8-2 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Tradewinds' Tigerette wasn't so much bad as unlucky in game 2, as a seven-ball run from the Meteors' Dani set the tone. Tigerette later scratched, and Dani used the ball-in-hand to complete an 8-3 win to clinch the series at 2-0. Dani had a four-ball run to pull away from Tigerette after a close start in game 3. Dani then closed this win at 8-5, sweeping the series 3-0 to set up her trip to Archtown to face the Arrows' Sleepy B. in the second round.

Apple Center, Todavía: Easter v. Kitty. The visitor's second series today is in Rotation with the green cue. Todavía's Easter had the slight edge in game 1, but it was a tight battle with Midland's Kitty, who kept things close until a late error. Easter made a pair at the end for an 8-5 win, giving the host a 1-0 series lead. The Predators' Kitty again kept it close with her offense in game 2, but she ran out of steam at the end. The Stills' Easter had a little more endurance for the 8-5 win, sealing the series at 2-0. Game 3 was as back-and-forth as it got in this series. Kitty held the lead early, but it faded late and Easter surged at the end for the 8-6 win. Easter swept the series 3-0 and is headed to the second round.

McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Isabella v. Rainmane. Aggressive stars end the day with the purple cue in 15-ball. Midland's Rainmane showed strength late in game 1, making four of the last five balls as Atlantic's Isabella struggled to stay consistent. Rainmane's win here put her up 1-0 in the series. Neither player really managed a breakout moment in game 2. The Predators' Rainmane seemed to have a little late momentum, but she missed badly on the 15, and the Pirates' Isabella buried it at the bottom left for the win. This tied the series at 1. Isabella ripped a seven-ball run early in game 3, but a battle toward the end left her stalled out. Rainmane collected the final pair of shots for the win to take the series 2-1. Rainmane will visit Infinity Torpedoes newcomer Fuchsia in the second round.

That's all for today. We'll do some more tomorrow.
