More pool action is on the way today, beginning with...
Toyota Arena, Freedom: Nikolai v. Chris. The green cue opens the day with some 15-ball. Capital City's Chris had a close battle with Freedom's Nikolai early in game 1. After some struggles on the 11, Nikolai scratched, and Chris was able to execute a three-ball run-out for the win. Chris leads the series 1-0. The Cascades' Nikolai had good offense in the middle of game 2, but the Sharpshooters' Chris began with a three-ball run and finished with a pair to take the win. Chris sealed the series at 2-0. Chris maintained a strong offense in game 3, doing his best to compete. A late miss on the 15 would spoil the result, as Nikolai converted it to the bottom side to avoid the sweep. Chris still moves on to the second round with a 2-1 series win.
Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Marsell v. Ms. Kitty. Stronger veterans collide in 10-ball with the red cue. Whitewater's Marsell couldn't get much offense going in game 1, while Pacific's Ms. Kitty had a three-ball run at one point. A choppy finish eventually favored Ms. Kitty after Marsell put the 10 in an uncalled pocket. Ms. Kitty is up 1-0 in the series. Game 2 followed a similar cadence for both players until the end. The Volcanoes' Ms. Kitty illegally pocketed the 9, and the Shores' Marsell took over for a three-ball run-out, earning the win and tying the series at 1. Marsell made it close at the end of game 3 with a three-ball run before he rattled the 10 out of the bottom left. Ms. Kitty cleaned it up at the bottom side for the win and 2-1 series win. Ms. Kitty will host Southern Monarchs rookie Molly in the second round.
Ford Forum, Pronger: Spot v. Chimpy. Back in 15-ball, the green cue goes again. Pronger's Spot got more of the early offense after a somewhat slow start to game 1. Westside's Chimpy got a contact play on the 4, but Spot used the position to deflect the 15 into the bottom left for a quick win and 1-0 series lead. The Tridents' Spot showed a little more strength with a five-ball run in the middle of game 2. The Rockers' Chimpy fired back with a three-ball run, but mistakes allowed Spot to get the last pair of shots for the win. Spot clinched the series at 2-0. Chimpy found a three-ball run as the game got congested near the top left, but Spot responded with a well-played four-ball run-out to take another win for the 3-0 sweep. Spot is headed to the second round.
Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Greg v. Kitty. Less experienced players meet in 12-ball with the silver cue. Archtown's Greg had a positional advantage in game 1, but he illegally potted his final ball. This set up a three-ball run-out by Midland's Kitty, who instead took the 1-0 series lead with a win. The Predators' Kitty made one of each on the break and proceeded to put up a four-ball run on solids with defense. The Arrows' Greg never stood a chance even with the wild-card ball as Kitty won a turn later to secure the series at 2-0. Kitty again made a good start in game 3, and she had no trouble backing it up at the end after Greg scratched. Kitty looked dominant in a 3-0 series sweep that sends her to the second round.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Valencia v. Stealth. The blue cue steps in for 9-ball. Golden's Valencia had good offense at first in game 1, but it went to waste as Swordpoint's Stealth ripped a six-ball run-out for the win. Stealth leads the series 1-0. The Blades' Stealth continued his surge into game 2 with a four-ball run. The Pilots' Valencia answered on a three-ball run that ended in a scratch, leaving an easy two-ball finish for Stealth, which gave the visitor the series at 2-0. Stealth struggled to keep up with his previous pace in game 3. Valencia picked up the slack at the end on a three-ball run-out for her lone win in Stealth's 2-1 series win. Stealth will visit Infinity Torpedoes veteran Shelley in the second round. This was Stealth's 100th unique opponent.
Chevrolet Center, Everton: Cleo v. Sally. The green cue cycles in for some 10-ball between Northeastern rivals. Everton's Cleo was on a three-ball run in game 1 when she missed the 8. Archtown's Sally had already put in a good effort and finished it off with a three-ball run-out to pull ahead 1-0 in the series. The Arrows' Sally had a decent game 2, but her missed contact on the 8 proved costly. The Eagles' Cleo struck back with a three-ball run-out for the win, tying the series at 1 game apiece. Sally resumed her strong play in game 3, picking up a six-ball run-out after Cleo erred while shooting at the 5. Sally's late push gave her the series at 2-1, and she's set to appear in the second round.
T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Spice v. Smokey. Another 15-ball series uses the purple cue. Whitewater's Smokey put in a great six-ball run to get into the late game, but he didn't follow up well. Victoria's Spice walked away with the win by making the final pair, giving her a 1-0 series lead. The Spurs' Spice didn't exactly dominate game 2, but the Shores' Smokey also lacked a big run this time. Smokey had his chances near the end, the last ending as he missed the 14. Spice made a pair for the win again, sealing the series at 2-0. Spice left things a little too loose early in game 3, and Smokey was there to convert a 4-15 combination to the bottom side. Spice settled on a 2-1 series win to get into the second round.
Audi Hall, Terrace City: Jennifer v. Hershey. The silver cue's last appearance today is in Rotation. Terrace City's Jennifer made a three-ball run early on and a five-ball run-out on the following turn for a stunning 8-0 win over Stonebridge's Hershey. Jennifer owns a 1-0 series lead. The Knights' Jennifer wasn't quite as efficient in attack, and the Wolves' Hershey did get on the board in game 2, but Jennifer still easily won 8-2. This clinched the series in her favor at 2-0. Jennifer didn't back down in game 3, taking the early lead against Hershey. Jennifer then won 8-2 on a three-ball run-out that featured an 8-13 combination to the top left. Jennifer's massive 3-0 series sweep sends her to the second round.
Audi Hall, Terrace City: Kiwi v. Hoot. The venue doubleheader ends with a captains' battle in 7-ball with the purple cue. Terrace City's Kiwi didn't manage much offense in game 1, as Viewpoint Sound's Hoot handled most of the successful shooting. Hoot easily earned the win and went ahead 1-0 in the series. The Meteors' Hoot continued to have most of the offense in game 2, but this time he missed his play on the 7. The Knights' Kiwi cashed in when she had the chance, getting the win to tie the series at 1. Hoot and Kiwi battled very evenly in game 3, neither really getting an edge at any given time. Hoot missed the 7 late, and Kiwi put in the top left for the win, taking the series 2-1. Kiwi will host TodavĂa Stills captain Easter in the second round.
Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Leonette v. Omari. The blue cue checks in with 9-ball. Pacific's Leonette made the 6 on the game 1 break, but a contact play on the 1 left Web City's Omari open for a 1-9 combination to the top left. Omari converted for the win and 1-0 lead in the series. The Spiders' Omari put in a good effort in game 2, but it wouldn't be enough. The Volcanoes' Leonette took over late, her four-ball run-out giving her a win to tie the series at 1. Leonette continued her success in game 3 with a four-ball run. Omari tried to counter but missed on the 6 and left it in position for Leonette to deflect a shot off of it that potted the 9 to the top left. Leonette won the game and the 2-1 series to earn her place in the second round.
HP Field Events Center, Midland: Americus v. Sydney S. Moving along with 10-ball, which sees the purple cue play. Midland's Americus found a four-ball run early in game 1, including a shot after she had illegally potted the 3. Harrison's Sydney S. took over with a three-ball run, but Americus struck a three-ball run-out at the end for the 1-0 series lead. The Predators' Americus was a little slower on offense in game 2, but it didn't make much difference. The Specters' Sydney S. fell flat late, allowing Americus to convert a pair of three-ball runs en route to the win. Americus clinched the series at 2-0. Americus eased up in game 3, and Sydney S. took advantage of that with a three-ball run-out for her lone win. Americus won the series 2-1 and will play in the second round.
Ford Forum, Pronger: Precious v. Nightfur. Eastern Hills captains battle in 10-ball with the green cue. A tight start saw Pronger's Precious develop a slight edge over Eastside's Nightfur. Precious then ended game 1 on a five-ball run-out, putting her confidently ahead 1-0 in the series. The Tridents' Precious remained firm on offense with a five-ball run in game 2. She missed the 6, but the Sharks' Nightfur couldn't calibrate very well at the end. Precious cleaned up the 10 to the top left to seal the series at 2-0. Precious didn't unleash a big run in game 3, but Nightfur was unable to stay steady at the end. Precious picked up a pair of shots for the win this time, sweeping the series 3-0, which means she'll get a trip to Westside to take on the Rockers' Slinks in round two.
Gillette Center, Swordpoint: Snowball v. Lize. The blue cue exits today with 12-ball. Swordpoint's Snowball gave away a wild-card ball on the game 1 break. Southridge's Lize nearly made it valuable, but after she beat Snowball's defense, she missed contact on her last ball. Snowball then put away a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Snowball had good offense in game 2, but she was a little slow to position her last ball. In that time, the Defenders' Lize managed to make her final pair of shots for the win, tying the series at 1. Lize wasn't able to get much for positioning late in game 3, while Snowball's early work left her with good looks for a three-ball run-out. Snowball's final surge gave her the series at 2-1, and she'll take a trip to Southridge to face Lize's Defenders teammate Wario in the second round.
HP Field Events Center, Midland: Chicky Phil v. Missy. In 8-ball, the green cue is used. Midland's Chicky Phil took stripes on the break in game 1. Capital City's Missy found more success in the mid-game, but Chicky Phil won on a three-ball run-out. Chicky Phil holds a 1-0 series lead. The Predators' Chicky Phil again fell behind in game 2, but the Sharpshooters' Missy completely stalled out on her last ball. Lucky for Missy, Chicky Phil scratched as he potted the 8 to gift the game away, which tied the series at 1. Missy completely lost control of her shot early in game 3, waiting until Chicky Phil was on the 8 to pot any of her stripes. Chicky Phil had enough cushion to play patiently as he earned the win and 2-1 series win that will take him to the second round.
Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Tigerette v. Hoot. The visitor's second series today is another captains' battle, playing 13-ball with the purple cue. Commerce's Tigerette made four balls on the game 1 break, but she overfilled the bottom right and gave solids to Viewpoint Sound's Hoot. Better positioning and patience allowed Hoot to take the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Tradewinds' Tigerette still struggled to execute shots in tight spaces in game 2. The Meteors' Hoot was much slower this time, but good enough to get the win as he secured the series at 2-0. Tigerette got down to her last ball in game 3, only to be denied once more. Hoot roared back with a four-ball run-out for the win, earning a 3-0 series sweep. Hoot returns home in the second round, set to host Freedom Cascades sophomore Andrew.
Google Hall, Modernistic: Daisy v. Bianca. Two energetic players use the red cue in 10-ball to close the day. Modernistic's Daisy held an edge in possession against Southridge's Bianca. This was just enough for Daisy to get the win at the end as she made the final pair of shots to take a 1-0 series lead. The Union's Daisy struggled a bit more in game 2, as her offense faltered with more frequency. Daisy missed her one look at the 10, and the Defenders' Bianca buried it instead for the win. The series is tied at 1. Bianca didn't have much going for her early on in game 3, but she closed out with a three-ball run-out when Daisy couldn't corral the 7. Bianca won the series 2-1 and will visit Queens Flames captain Crystal in a big Southeastern Derby in the second round.
Today's action went fast, and we can expect a similar speed tomorrow.
