We're ready to continue playing on a delayed schedule today. The green cue is not in action. First up...
Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Spirit v. Leonardo. The blue cue starts today in 9-ball. Lighton's Spirit took care of game 1 on an 8-9 combination to the bottom left after a fairly even battle with Diamond's Leonardo. Spirit leads the series 1-0. The Gems' Leonardo had some a questionable positioning choice in game 2, putting him out of line on the 2. He hit it hard, and it lined up a 2-9 combination that the Prestige's Spirit double-potted to the bottom left for the win and 2-0 series lead. Offense went out the window in a difficult game 3. Leonardo tried to pick up the pace late, but he missed on the 8 and allowed Spirit to win with a pair of shots. Spirit clinched the series at 3-0. The pace returned in game 4, when Spirit attacked well early on and Leonardo answered with a four-ball run-out to get on the board. Spirit remains ahead 3-1 in the series. Spirit bounced back with a kick to make the 2 at the top side and a deflection off the 3 that collected the 9 at the bottom left in game 5. Spirit beat Leonardo 4-1 in the series to earn the right to host in the bracket finals.
Google Hall, Modernistic: Puff I v. Shaggy. A North Division battle uses the purple cue in Accuracy. Modernistic's Puff I was solid early in game 1, but she fell apart at the end wasted her chance to force overtime with a scratch on her last shot. Whitewater's Shaggy locked in a 2-4 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Union's Puff I couldn't hang onto her lead in regulation in game 2, and then scratched on the break in overtime. The Shores' Shaggy gladly made the last shot for a 3-4 win to go ahead 2-0 in the series. Puff I faded a bit at the end of game 3 after another close battle at the start. Shaggy held her ground this time and won 1-3, securing the series at 3-0. Puff I finally enjoyed some control throughout game 4, giving her a 1-2 win to break up Shaggy's bid for a sweep. Shaggy remains ahead 3-1 after the close loss. Shaggy was able to lock down a 1-2 win in game 5, finishing off a 4-1 series win over Puff I. Shaggy will visit Viewpoint Sound Meteors captain Hoot in the bracket finals between North Division rivals. Shaggy has joined the league lead at three kills, while Puff I is the 103rd player eliminated.
Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Katharine v. Klaus. The blue cue is back for an 8-ball series. Whitewater's Katharine made a five-ball run off the break and followed up with a three-ball run-out for a game 1 shutout win over Central's Klaus. Katharine leads the series 1-0. The Shores' Katharine remained fast on offense in game 2, again winning in just two turns, although the Warriors' Klaus made a pair this time. Katharine is up 2-0 in the series. Katharine made a pair of stripes and one solid on the break in game 3, but that worked out well for Klaus, who enjoyed good positioning. Klaus overcame a pair of scratches to pick up the win, staying alive while trailing 2-1 in the series. Klaus continued the comeback surge with a fast win in game 4. Katharine couldn't get much going on offense, and Klaus won on a four-ball run-out to tie the series at 2. Klaus scratched on the break in game 5, and Katharine punished that mistake with a five-ball run. Klaus never caught up as Katharine won the series 3-2, earning the right to host North Division rival and Viewpoint Sound Meteors veteran Cobalt in the bracket finals. This counted as Katharine's second kill, making Klaus the 104th player out of the Tournament.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Strut v. Goldy. The silver cue enters the action in 10-ball. Golden's Strut had a brutal game 1 outing with misses and scratches all over the place. Everton's Goldy picked up much of the mess for a win and 1-0 series lead. The Eagles' Goldy tried to get by on guiding shots in game 2, but the Pilots' Strut picked up an early deflection off the 2 to sink the 10 at the bottom left. This tied the series at 1. Goldy tried to bounce back in game 3, but she had a few too many errors near the end to stay competitive. Strut made the final pair of shots for the win to pull ahead 2-1 in the series. Strut didn't have his best in game 4, and that made him slip up late. Goldy poured on a four-ball run and a three-ball run-out to earn the win, retying the series at 2. Strut held on in a pacey game 5 battle, making a four-ball run-out to fend off Goldy for the 3-2 series win. Strut will host Harrison Specters newcomer Snuggle in the bracket finals in a battle between club-mates.
Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Spirit v. Sarah. The host's second series today is a West Division showdown in 10-ball with the blue cue. There was no momentum on either side in a choppy game 1. At the end, Tysini's Sarah put the 10 down at the bottom left for the win and 1-0 series lead over Lighton's Spirit. The Hummingbirds' Sarah didn't improve in game 2, but the Prestige's Spirit bounced back with a four-ball run-out, ending on a deflection off the 6 to get the 10 at the top right. Spirit tied the series at 1. Sarah scratched to end a three-ball run late in game 3, and Spirit took the 10 to the top left from ball-in-hand on the next shot. Spirit's gotten a little lucky to lead 2-1 in the series. Sarah wasted her chance to strike late in a contested game 4, leaving the 10 wide of the top right. Spirit made it on her second attempt to get the win, sealing the series at 3-1. Spirit faded late in game 5, and Sarah was able to knock down the 10 at the bottom right for the win. Spirit took a 3-2 series win, and she'll visit her mother, Whitewater Shores captain Shaggy, in the bracket finals. Spirit has her first kill of the year, and Sarah is the 105th eliminated player.
Cisco Arena, Tysini: Charli v. Nibbles. The red cue's lone series today is in 7-ball. Tysini's Charli had power on offense but not much in the way of precision. Web City's Nibbles cleaned up the pieces later in game 1 and took the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Hummingbirds' Charli didn't fix her mistakes in game 2, falling apart on offense while the Spiders' Nibbles essentially had free reign to attack. Nibbles made the 7 at the top right for the win to go ahead 2-0 in the series. Nibbles took matters into his own hands in game 3, running the table to prevent Charli from having a chance to keep herself in the series. Nibbles' dominant win secured the series for himself at 3-0. Charli finally picked up a win in a lengthy and frustrating game 4 battle that saw Nibbles lose his patience. Charli trails 3-1 in the series. Charli had a better performance in game 5, opening with a three-ball run and adding the 7 at the top right at the end to get another win. Nibbles took the series 3-2 and will visit former teammate and Viewpoint Sound Meteors star Princess in the bracket finals.
Microsoft Center, Del Sur: Dominic v. Taylor M. The blue cue exits after this Rotation set. Southern's Dominic scratched on the break in game 1, but it didn't slow him down as Eastside's Taylor M. faltered on important early shots. Dominic won 8-2 and earned a 1-0 series lead. The Sharks' Taylor M. played a more defensive style in game 2, but it didn't change the result. The Monarchs' Dominic continued to press and he earned an 8-5 win to push his series lead to 2-0. In game 3, Dominic turned the tables on Taylor M. using defense to build his own offense in an 8-1 win that helped him clinch the series at 3-0. Dominic had just about nothing go right early in game 4, as Taylor M. established a sizable lead this time. Dominic got some back late, but Taylor M. won 8-3 to get on the board in a 3-1 series. Taylor M. snagged another result in game 5, building another lead and just hanging on for an 8-6 win over Dominic. In the end, Dominic took the series 3-2 and will host West Division rival and Victoria Spurs star Yekaterina in the bracket finals.
Nissan Hall, Infinity: Smudge v. Chimpy. Another Rotation series uses the purple cue. Infinity's Smudge made an instant impact in game 1 and just kept going for an 8-1 win over Westside's Chimpy. Smudge leads the series 1-0. The Torpedoes' Smudge had a solid start again in game 2, but the Rockers' Chimpy answered her this time. Smudge didn't let there be an answer to her second surge, winning the game 8-3 on a five-ball run-out to claim a 2-0 series lead. Smudge didn't build much of a lead early in game 3, and Chimpy instead worked a four-ball run early on. It was competitive from there, but Chimpy closed out an 8-4 win to cut Smudge's series lead down to 2-1. Chimpy again pulled out to a lead in game 4, only for Smudge to make things interesting with a late four-ball run. Smudge missed on the 13 and Chimpy converted it to take an 8-6 win that tied the series at 2 games apiece. Smudge didn't miss a beat in game 5, recovering quite well to take an 8-2 win that gave her a 3-2 series win over Chimpy. Smudge is set to host her bracket finals appearance. Chimpy is the 106th eliminated player and Smudge has her first kill of the year.
Toyota Arena, Freedom: Frosty v. Leonardo. Club-mates end the day in battle in 13-ball with the silver cue. Freedom's Frosty had a great break in game 1, but she couldn't finish it off, missing the 8 at the top side. Diamond's Leonardo cleaned up for a close win and 1-0 series lead. The Gems' Leonardo had struggles late in game 2, but he luckily was able to match with the Cascades' Frosty and then finish off the effort. Leonardo leads the series 2-0 after that sloppy win. An even and much faster game 3 saw Frosty trip up a couple of shots that could have led to longer runs. Leonardo then had time to use the 8 defensively at the top left before collecting the win to seal the series at 3-0. Leonardo wasn't able to recover from a scratch and another error in game 4, as Frosty was clever to win on a four-ball run and a clean pick of the 8 to the bottom left. Leonardo remains ahead 3-1 in the series. Frosty picked up another win in game 5 thanks to Leonardo missing late. Leonardo settled for a 3-2 series win to get him into a road appearance against the Pacific Volcanoes captain Ms. Kitty in the bracket finals.
That's all for today. The plan is to go with standard scheduling Monday, followed by midweek scheduling Tuesday before a two-day administrative break ahead of the Bracket Finals.
