UPCL Cricket - Week 10 Part 1

We're back with week 10 of cricket, with a scheduling pattern beginning to form. We'll start this week with a bang as...

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates host their sixth in a seven-game home stand, against Eastern Hills Division rivals, the Wolves, who are in their fourth of seven straight on the road. Juno didn't get her bat back into position in time for Stonebridge, failing early at 105 in a poor opener for the visitors. Atlantic also suffered a slow start, as Delila was unable to loop a ball on her backhand, and it ended her turn at 122. Frosty got things on track for scoring, unleashing 569 for the Wolves to give them a much better second attack. Isabella couldn't keep up for the Pirates, taking only 288 as they've fallen behind. Cobalt flipped 615 for Stonebridge on his turn, padding their lead very nicely. Americus chipped back with 439 for Atlantic, mitigating the damage slightly. Prism kept the Wolves going with 647, icing their total at 1936 in what's expected to be a win. Klaus didn't even challenge, taking 193 to leave the Pirates at a loss with 1042. Stonebridge is up to 10-11, while Atlantic has slumped down to 13-6 after challenging for the league lead for awhile.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves are back home to start a three-game home stand, while the Cascades end their four-game road trip here. Freedom's Jasmine turned a slow start into a massive performance, crushing 1340 to establish the visitors very firmly. Snuggle had to go to his backhand twice from the start, and the second time ended his turn at just 5 for Oceanside, making for a lopsided start. Stinky tapped 354 for the Cascades, adding a bit to their lead with the standard turn. Caitlin carved out 611 for the Waves, shrinking the deficit a bit at the halfway mark, although it remains significant. Roxy kept Freedom cruising on her turn, striking 384 in a solid outing for the veteran. Celestia made even more progress for Oceanside, making a game out of it as she blasted 1130 to get the hosts in range. Nikolai stumbled at 82 for the Cascades, giving them a final of 2160. Dewey picked up 426 to give the Waves a win with 2172 in a remarkable comeback effort. Oceanside's furious rally gets them to 12-11, passing the now 7-7 Freedom side.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems wrap up their short stay at home against the Monarchs. Panda was left wanting more for Southern after his turn, which ended a bit early at 225 after a bad swing went out of bounds. Smokey smacked 587 in response for Diamond, putting them in a definitive lead. Hoppy couldn't quite cover the deficit, taking a reasonable yet insufficient 324 for the Monarchs as they struggle to keep pace. Citrus went deep for the Gems, padding their lead significantly with 818 on her turn, giving them a very large lead at the midway point. Pounce made a bit of forward progress for Southern with 527 on his turn, but they still trail by a decent margin. Pedey bashed another 1060 for Diamond, extending their lead to a likely unreachable level as the final players step up to bat. Shannon had only 298 for the Monarchs, leaving them at a loss with 1374, but she did put in good effort to keep her turn going. Rosalina added a reasonable 328 for the Gems, finishing their offense at 2793. Diamond jumps to 8-13, passing the 6-11 Southern team they just defeated.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles end a three-game home stand with a glimpse of 1st place in sight, playing the Defenders, who are in their fifth of a six-game road trip. Bianca had a decent opener for Southridge, laying claim to 378 points to lead things off. Goldy didn't have her usual command over her swing, ending on 319 for Everton as they trail slightly early on. Debby couldn't settle a bouncing ball on her backhand, knocking it out to end her turn with a meager 44 for the Defenders. Puff III cashed in on the opportunity, posting 328 for the Eagles to take a small lead at the halfway point. Stephanie easily covered the deficit for Southridge, batting 472 in a solid performance. Kirstin had 185 for Everton on her turn, allowing them to slip slightly behind with a player each to go. Hughbert was solid with 391 to bring the Defenders' final score to 1285. Blizzard completed the comeback for the Eagles, posting 505 at the end to give them 1337 in the win. Everton is now at 15-4, while Southridge hits 11-11 with the close loss.

HP Field, Midland: The Predators stand in the way of the Rockers as they try to reclaim the throne atop the league. Westside got off to a decent start, as Misty contributed 402 at the start, a solid base for the talented visitors. Shawn couldn't produce an answer for Midland, getting juked by a quick offering that sat him down with 115. Goatee answered with 306 for the Rockers, an iffy performance that will pad their lead slightly. Rainmane made up a bit of ground for the Predators, gathering 418 to cut into the deficit at the halfway mark. Midnight did important work for Westside, providing a large extension to their lead with 696 on her turn, making them a bit more comfortable. Leonardo played a high-pace game but for too short a time, ending on 319 as Midland has slipped farther behind late in the game. Slinks tacked on another 577 for the Rockers, giving them a final of 1981 in what should be a convincing win. Fuchsia had only 63 for the Predators, leaving them short at 915. Westside will retake the league lead from the Eagles at 12-3, while Midland slumps to 11-10.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds open a four-game home stand whilst surging up the standings, meeting the bottom-dwelling Specters at this point. Harrison's Sydney started the game well with 490, offering an early challenge to the hosts. Tigerette slugged 981 in response for Commerce, setting them far ahead with the initial lead. Twinkie II couldn't play a deflection on her turn, ending at 288 for the Specters as they remain behind. Ice Cream stumbled with a mere 80 for the Tradewinds, weakening their lead at the halfway mark. Lexi cashed in for Harrison, smashing 992 to put them in front, at least temporarily. Lionel kept it close with 677 for Commerce, but they'll be just a bit behind with the final players coming to bat. Sugar tripped up at 130 for the Specters, leaving them vulnerable at an even 1900. Lorde did enough with 256 for the Tradewinds, giving them the win on 1994. Commerce is at an even record, 8-8, while Harrison drops to 3-15 in a close game.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium: The Waves play the second of three-straight at home, hosting a one-off road game for the Nighthawks in what should be a competitive battle. Peach displayed an immense poise and skill for North Modernistic, crushing 989 at a high pace to give the visitors a great lead. Snuggle showed a bit of caution on his turn, and he ended much lower at 506 for Oceanside, although they could still make the comeback. Luigi suffered a tough deflection at 201, destabilizing the Nighthawks lead with a mediocre outing. Caitlin was unable to make much of an impact, answering with 247 for the Waves after a deflection ended her turn. Cheddar replied with 648 for North Modernistic, boosting their lead again in a strong performance from the veteran. Celestia couldn't keep up for Oceanside, chipping in with 416 on her turn. Bright had some struggles, ending on 256 after poor swings, which gave the Nighthawks a final of 2094. Dewey put up 375 for the Waves, but they took the loss with 1544. North Modernistic is up to 11-8, while Oceanside sinks to 12-12.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts look to get something going at home, hosting the Surfers as they embark on a four-game road trip. Watermelon had some trouble getting into a groove after the week off, taking 324 for Pearl to open the scoring. Patches was even weaker, taking a middling 241 for Boston as they'll start slightly behind. Neopolitan slapped another 371 for the Surfers on her turn, adding a bit more to their lead. Puff II almost kept pace with 335 for the Swifts, ending when a ball got caught on her backhand and she couldn't hit it properly. Boots had a lucky deflection to the back 6s to keep her turn going for Pearl, eventually ending at 366 to keep the lead fairly steady. Gradley picked up 550 for Boston on his turn, carrying the hosts into a small lead with a player each to go in a tight game. Wings covered the deficit but not by much with 287 for the Surfers, putting them at 1348 overall. Sweetheart did enough with 280 for the Swifts, securing their winning score at 1406. Both teams are now 9-9 after the result of this game.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks and Volcanoes meet for what should be a close game between positive-points teams. Starlight did alright for Pacific on her turn, ending a bit early on a deflection, which gave the visitors 345 to start with. Fluffina looked to get Maplewood back to being a dominant home team, and her start with 567 was a good first step in that regard for the hosts. Ms. Kitty covered the deficit for the Volcanoes, producing a reasonable 361 on her turn. Diddley stumbled a bit for the Lumberjacks, taking a mediocre 230 as their lead weakens at the halfway point. Leonette couldn't take advantage for Pacific, scoring a measly 51 points in a poor turn from the sometimes inconsistent veteran. Bryant didn't offer as much protection as he should have, giving Maplewood 231 as their lead remains shaky with a player each to go. Chicky Phil applied some pressure for the Volcanoes, poking 539 to give them 1296 total, forcing a response from the hosts. Waluigi came up short at 84 for the Lumberjacks, leaving them in a loss with 1112. The surprise Pacific win gets them to 15-8, while Maplewood is 11-13, with their prior fortress in shambles.

HP Field, Midland: The Predators are just barely treading water in a recent slump, and get to face the Eagles, who would enter a tie for 1st with a win. Goldy stumbled with a pathetic 80 for Everton at the start. Shawn showed little mercy to the stumble, churning out 529 for Midland to stake out a large initial lead for the hosts. Puff III answered with another sterling road performance, slicing 636 for the Eagles to cover the deficit this time around. Rainmane rose to the challenge with 510 for the Predators, regaining a smaller lead at the halfway mark. Kirstin was rattled despite making a save on a long backhand reach, and she ended soon after with 164 for Everton, failing to meet the deficit. Leonardo didn't provide much help for Midland, chipping in with 259 to pad the lead a little bit with the final players coming to bat. Blizzard couldn't catch up, ending at 264 for the Eagles as they lost with 1144. Fuchsia added 401 for the Predators with no pressure to perform, giving them 1699 total. Midland is up to 12-10 on the year, while Everton slips down to 15-5, still firmly in second place.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns look to break a four-game skid at home against a very strong Blades team making the short trip east. Snowball scooped up 505 for Swordpoint to open the scoring in good form for the visitors. Royal's Nightfur started with incredible pace, but fell at 218 when she lifted a ball too high, and the hosts will start from behind. Dreamy did enough for the whole team in a massive turn, combining pace and longevity to blast 2212 for the Blades, essentially guaranteeing a win in this game. Jake had no answer for that performance, crashing out at 51 for the Crowns to deepen the damage. Bandit acknowledged little need to perform well, taking a meager 96 for Swordpoint as a small supplement to the lead. Kayla tried and failed to keep Royal proud, taking only 42 as all players after Dreamy seem nervous in attempting to compare to her outing. Stealth chipped 334 for the Blades, icing their win at 3147 pending a minor miracle. Hannah led the Crowns in scoring with 486, but they still lost with 797 total. Swordpoint's massive win carries them to 13-7, while Royal's fifth straight home loss puts them at 6-12.

Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots and Knights make for an intriguing match as this segment comes to a close. Kiwi had her first good road game in awhile, smacking 803 for Terrace City to establish a large lead early on. Golden's Valencia tried to keep pace, but a backhand caught her out of rhythm and she ended at 96, giving the hosts quite the hill to climb. Jennifer replied with 575 for the Knights, extending the lead quite well with her strong turn. Dusty couldn't quite keep up with the pace at the end of her turn, taking 401 for the Pilots as they try to hold on. Oreo padded the lead with 852 for Terrace City, who are showing off their high-octane playing abilities in this one. Strut tapped 202 for Golden, almost assuring they won't be making a comeback in this game. Stripes iced the Knights' presumptive victory with 454 individually for 2684 total. A. Charlton gathered 385 for the Pilots at the end, but they lost with 1084 in a severe defeat. Terrace City is up to 13-7, while Golden drops to 10-8 with the loss.
