We'll be wrapping up Week 11 of the cricket season in this post, beginning with...
Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters hope to continue their ascent, while the Eagles look for another boost in the battle for first place. Goldy cobbled together 495 for Everton on her turn, giving them a solid opening effort. Chris bounced back from his last rough outing for Capital City, taking 666 to put them ahead initially in this game. Puff III picked up 535 in response for the Eagles, easily covering the deficit with her strong effort. Missy fought off some tough challenges, but still went down at 487 for the Sharpshooters, weakening their lead slightly. Kirstin applied significant pressure in a great outing for Everton, walloping her way to 845. Sprinkles kept Capital City in front for now with her 758, but it will be a tight finish for the two teams. Blizzard didn't get much for the Eagles, as her 240 left them with 2115 overall. Nicole provided a confident ending with 423 for the Sharpshooters, giving them 2334 in the win. Capital City makes the jump to 16-9, while Everton is just a hair ahead in first place at 16-6 after the loss.
FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks are still trying for their first home win, going against the Surfers in their third of a four-game road trip. Watermelon had a slow start with 118 for Pearl, putting them in a dangerous spot immediately. Chelsea probably should have gotten a bit more than 224 for Eastside, as they hold a small lead initially. Neopolitan saw a ball get caught behind her bat as she went to her wind-up, and she took herself out at 496 for the Surfers, a much better second effort. Taylor had only 128 for the Sharks, putting them at a deficit as the midway mark rolls around. Boots smashed a massive 1010 for Pearl on her turn, extending their lead far above their hosts. Niki got caught watching one of her swings, which led to her being taken down at 80 for Eastside when the next offering came in quickly. Wings had only 200 for the Surfers, leaving them at 1824 in what should be a win. Paps had 279 for the Sharks, who hit a new low as a team with only 711 points total in the thorough loss. Pearl is up to 10-10, while Eastside falls to 6-15 in the loss.
GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders return home to kick off a four-game home stand, while the Volcanoes have a doubleheader on the road beginning in this game. Starlight had her eyes on a potential record-setting effort, but couldn't keep her form, ending with an unbelievable 2741 that saw her pulled out a backhand to keep the turn going for Pacific. Bianca melted under pressure trying to follow that up, ending on 192 for Southridge, a side very familiar with being on the wrong end of big performances. Ms. Kitty added 1170, a great effort in its own right, to the Volcanoes score, putting them on the brink of a lofty mark. Debby had a respectable 378 for the Defenders, who will have to play out the game with no hope of a comeback. Leonette tallied 690 for Pacific on this turn, putting them in conceivable range for the all-time team record. Stephanie fell on 160 for Southridge, with few neutral fans paying any attention to the home team's turn. Chicky Phil stepped up and swatted 728 for the Volcanoes, making them the new single-game team record holders as they end with 5329, besting the old record by 17 points. Hughbert had only 224 for the Defenders, giving them a final of 954. Pacific's massive win gives them a record of 17-8, while Southridge is down to 12-12.
Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Volcanoes are back at it again after setting a record, which must put fear in the hearts of the Union. Starlight cranked out another 724 for Pacific, establishing the visitors well in this game too. Ms. Puppy was undeterred for Modernistic, lining 707 herself to keep the game close in the early going. Her longtime companion, Ms. Kitty, answered with 941 for the Volcanoes, reasserting their lead even more forcefully this time. The Union fell off the pace when the rookie Daisy had only 217 on her turn, putting them far behind at the midway mark. Leonette maintained the Pacific lead with 281 on her turn, hoping it will be enough to hold off the next attack. Puff I made up a lot of ground with 719 for Modernistic, giving them a chance with a player each to go. Chicky Phil left the Volcanoes exposed after hitting a meager 80, giving them 2026 overall. Strawberry was no better for the Union, ending on 80 herself as they lost with 1723. Pacific is making it known they have intentions for first place, going to 18-8, while Modernistic drops to 8-12.
Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds face a tough test against a rested Flames team as both battle for league position. Crystal opened with 281 for Queens, not the best result from their captain in what's expected to be a tight contest. Tigerette was much worse for Commerce, taking a measly 12 after tipping a ball lightly over her wicket, putting the hosts behind. Paige answered with 320 for the Flames, pushing their lead to a slightly stronger mark. Ice Cream got 288 for the Tradewinds, a bit disappointing after it looked like she could go deep, as they remain behind at the halfway point. Violetta had only 66 for Queens, weakening their lead with the poor performance. Lionel had the best effort of the game for either team so far, smacking 617 to give Commerce the late lead. Max answered with 480 for the Flames, forcing a response from the hosts as the visitors close at 1147. Lorde fumbled the game away for the Tradewinds, as her 216 at a low pace gave them just 1133 in the loss. Queens' sixth straight road win lifts them to 15-11, while Commerce is 8-10 after the disappointing loss.
Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Monarchs play in their third of a five-game road trip, facing the fourth-place Knights. Panda had two false starts for Southern before settling into a nice groove, earning 592 to start things off well. Kiwi had trouble getting much turn on her swings, ending up at 169 as her pace collapsed below her, putting Terrace City in an unfamiliar position. Hoppy flicked only 220 for the Monarchs on her turn, not doing much to help the lead. Jennifer got a little bit back with 336 for the Knights, but they'll need a big performance later on. Pounce had a bad swing, ending his turn at only 117 as Southern is starting to fade quickly. Oreo stepped up big for Terrace City, pummeling 686 to put them in the lead with a player each to go. Shannon poked 569 for the Monarchs, putting them at 1498 overall, which will force a response from the hosts. Stripes had only 283 for the Knights, giving them a narrow loss on 1474. Southern's upset gets them up to 7-14, while Terrace City drops a bit to 14-8.
Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds end a four-game home stand, while the Pirates begin a four-game road trip with their eyes on a season sweep of their hosts. Delila churned out 791 for Atlantic in her opening turn, establishing the visitors with a significant mark. Tigerette couldn't keep up, producing only 289 for a slumping Commerce side. Isabella chose to accept 377 for the Pirates rather than risk an optional replay on such a low-scoring day. Ice Cream made things worse for the Tradewinds, as she took just 179, further deepening the deficit. Americus faltered at a paltry 40 for Atlantic, leaving them with less control than they previously had. Lionel pulled back with 416 for Commerce, getting them in range to make a late challenge as the final players step up to bat. Klaus provided 324 for the Pirates, acting as a bit of a buffer for their lead, which closed at 1532. Lorde had only 24 for the Tradewinds, setting them at another loss with 907. Atlantic improves to 14-7, while Atlantic drops to 8-11 after a third straight home loss.
HP Field, Midland: The Predators end a three-game home stand, facing off with the Monarchs in their fourth of five straight on the road. Panda picked off 343 for Southern, a reasonable scoring effort given the environment today. Shawn countered with a massive 702 for Midland, putting his current team well ahead of his former team. Hoppy got 256 back for the Monarchs, but that wasn't enough to cover the deficit. Rainmane fell at only 115 for the Predators, putting a bit of weakness in their lead at the halfway mark of the game. Pounce covered the deficit with 431 for Southern, putting pressure on the hosts to figure out how to score consistently. Leonardo rallied back with 710 for Midland, reasserting their lead late in the game as things are looking up for the hosts. Shannon couldn't catch up for the Monarchs, ending on 359 as they close with 1389 in the loss. Fuchsia tacked on 209 for the Predators, icing their win at 1736. Midland is up to 16-11, while Southern goes to 7-15.
Toyota Pitch, Freedom: Two teams playing their first game of the week meet, as the Cascades try to challenge a high-flying Torpedoes side set to play a road doubleheader. Infinity led off with 599 from Smudge on a good turn, staking out a nice lead. Jasmine replied with 311 for Freedom, cutting partially into the deficit on a passable outing. Solaris broke out with 983 for the Torpedoes, a massive performance from the rookie to put his team far ahead. Stinky got a large amount back with 536 for the Cascades, but they remain behind at the halfway mark against a strong team. Whiskers pounded out another 750 for Infinity, keeping them surging forward with a third big effort. Roxy managed 280 in response, but it looks like Freedom will have to fall in this outing. Mr. Snowman had a measly 66 to ice the Torpedoes' efforts at 2398, which should be enough to win. Nikolai had only 144 for the Cascades, unable to rally them forward in a loss with 1271. Infinity's big win takes them to 13-7, while Freedom falls to 7-8.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: More third jerseys on display as the Torpedoes finish their road doubleheader while the Shores end a four-game home stand. Smudge continued to be consistent for Infinity, churning out 784 to give them a nice opening lead in this game as well. Bear was unable to answer effectively, ending on 99 for Whitewater as they start from behind. Solaris scooped up another 780 for the Torpedoes, practically doubling their lead in the performance. Their recent bye week doesn't seem to have helped the Shores, as Twinkie III replied with 263 on her turn, a poor mark that has them far behind at the halfway mark. Whiskers managed only 169 for Infinity, allowing their lead to slip a little bit. Marsell chipped back with 312 for Whitewater, making a little bit of progress but likely too late. Mr. Snowman tapped 447 for the Torpedoes, icing their scoring at 2180 in another good game for the visitors. Shaggy got tangled up on a swing, ending at 147 to give the Shores a losing mark of 821. Infinity is cruising at 14-7, while Whitewater drops to 7-7.
GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders continue a four-game home stand, while the Wolves get a road tune-up in this one-off. Stonebridge picked up 328 on the opening turn from their captain Juno, a reasonable effort to get things going. Bianca replied well for Southridge with 480 on her turn, giving the hosts a lead initially. Frosty continued her strong run of road play for the Wolves, pulling them ahead with 551. Debby continued the scoring escalation in favor of the Defenders, ripping 646 on her turn to give them a stronger lead halfway through the game. Cobalt swung well to cover the deficit for Stonebridge, tallying 591 on his turn when it was all over. Stephanie barely managed to cover the deficit the other way, taking 351 for Southridge and leaving the game up to the final players for a result. Prism set a high bar for the Wolves, collecting 546 to give them 2016 overall. Hughbert couldn't rally back enough, ending on 434 with good pace the Defenders as they lost with 1911. Stonebridge jumps to 11-15 in the win, while Southridge slips to 12-13.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades host their second of a four-game home stand, welcoming the Union in this week's finale. Ms. Puppy led things off with 543 for Modernistic, continuing to play a hot game this week. Snowball was knocked back at 28 for Swordpoint, putting them in an unenviable position of playing from behind early on. Daisy replied with 296 for the Union, not really as much as she would have liked to add to their lead. Dreamy made a little progress for the Blades with 384 on this turn, but they need a lot more with the deficit they face at the halfway point. Puff I had a decent outing with 360 for Modernistic, complaining about pitch conditions late in her turn. Bandit roared back for Swordpoint, crushing 802 to give the hosts a narrow lead with a player each to go. Strawberry played with pace for the Union, paddling 522 to give them a final score of 1721. Stealth carried the day with 557 for the Blades, giving them 1771 in the tight victory. Swordpoint goes to 15-8 on the year, while Modernistic tumbles somewhat unfairly to 8-13 after a rough loss.
A standings update is soon to follow, and Players of the Week will be announced on Twitter @UnitedPCL within a half-hour. Pool is on later today as well.
