UPCL Cricket - Week 11 Part 1

We're into a new week of cricket now, leading off with...

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters take on the Lumberjacks, and these teams meet again in two league games to complete their season series. Fluffina led things off with 704 for Maplewood, staking out a significant lead already. Chris had only 176 for Capital City in response, setting them behind at the start. Diddley chipped another 371 for the Lumberjacks, adding a little more substance to their lead. Missy answered with 560 for the Sharpshooters, putting them a little closer at the halfway mark. Bryant had no reaction for Maplewood when a ball bounced high over his bat, leaving him at 96 as the visitors are now vulnerable. Sprinkles had a measly 24 in response for Capital City, wasting the chance to cut the deficit down a bit late in the game. Waluigi had only 69 for the Lumberjacks, putting their final at 1240. Nicole supplied 375 for the Sharpshooters, but they ended up with 1135 in the narrow loss. Maplewood has caught a break on the road, going to 12-14, while Capital City drops to 14-9.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: In between the home-and-home series, the Spiders host the Nighthawks as part of a six-game home stand for the former. Peach wasn't crazy good this time, but her 415 provides a solid opener for North Modernistic. Shadow had only 311 for Web City, putting them slightly behind initially. Luigi went big for the Nighthawks, pounding 873 to put them much farther ahead as the game approaches half-completion. Ted had only 256 for the Spiders, unable to recover much of the deficit in a middling turn. Cheddar struck another 666 for North Modernistic, hoping not to have bedeviled the team at all. Shiny played well for Web City with 554, but she couldn't shrink the deficit either, making it quite difficult for the hosts to have any hope left. Bright had a weak turn with 72 for the Nighthawks, leaving them at 2026 in what should still be a win. Dani fell at 208 for the Spiders, giving them 1329, which was far short of the mark in the loss. North Modernistic continues to cruise, going to 14-9, while Web City slips back to 10-13.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks look to get on track at home at the start of a four-game home stand, hosting their recent opponents, the Sharpshooters. Chris imposed a heavy burden upon the hosts, crushing 1013 for Capital City to begin the scoring. Fluffina got far too much behind the ball, ending on a paltry 39 for Maplewood. Missy was very crisp on her turn, supplying another 476 for the Sharpshooters to pad their lead. Diddley answered with 361 for the Lumberjacks, attempting to mitigate the damage done halfway through the game. Sprinkles couldn't control a slow-rolling ball on her turn, but she accrued 958 for Capital City to likely secure the lead for the visitors. Bryant had a lucky deflection to keep his turn going for Maplewood, but a slow pace kept the score down with 307, not enough to make much of a difference. Nicole tapped 185 for the Sharpshooters, giving them a final score of 2632. Waluigi collapsed at 207 for the Lumberjacks, putting them at 914 in the loss. Capital City is 15-9 on the year, while Maplewood is down to 12-15.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders now play their fifth of a six-game home stand, against the Prestige, who traveled to the Northeast for a one-off. Acorn had a strong start for Lighton, knocking 640 in his turn to establish the early lead. Shadow answered well for Web City, propelling them ahead with 810 to open the scoring positively for the hosts. His daughter was even better, as Spirit slugged 1283 for the Prestige, giving them a massive lead the second time around. The Spiders countered with 368 from Ted, but they remain far back at the halfway mark. Twinkie I had a small 272 for Lighton, maintaining the led fairly well but not much more. Shiny countered with 351 for Web City, a small dent in the deficit when her team needs much more. Salmo had 246 for the Prestige, giving them 2441 overall in a high-scoring effort. Dani had a meager 16 as the Spiders took the loss with 1545. Lighton gets the much-needed win to go to 9-10, while dumping Web City down to 10-14.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers begin a four-game home stand against the Waves, who begin a four-game road trip of their own. Oceanside got off to a weak start with 225 from Snuggle, putting them in a vulnerable position early on. Westside's Misty had a mental lapse as she played through a technical error, which pinned her with a mandatory replay. She had only 200 on the replay, putting the hosts behind. Caitlin had a successful turn for the Waves, ripping 957 and only ending on a late backhand flip play. Goatee replied with 482 for the Rockers, keeping them somewhat in range at the halfway mark. Celestia tallied another 726 for Oceanside on her turn, extending their lead significantly. Midnight played well in earning 400 for Westside, but it appears the deficit may be too much for the hosts to handle. Dewey tapped 304 for the Waves, icing their total at 2212. Slinks gathered 354 for the Rockers, but they couldn't overcome the deficit, ending at 1436 in the loss. Oceanside's surprise win carries them to 13-13, while Westside is 12-4 after the loss.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Waves finish their doubleheader nearby against the Union, who are ending a four-game home stand. Snuggle pummeled 788 for Oceanside at the start this time, setting them at a much better opening level. Ms. Puppy answered with a reasonable 424 for Modernistic, keeping them in the game early on. Caitlin couldn't quite a balance a ball on the end of her bat, ending at 99 for the Waves in a sub-par performance. Daisy stumbled up at 105 for the Union, making very little progress against the deficit. Celestia had a solid 256 for Oceanside, adding a little more to their lead. Puff I made a large impact, shrinking the deficit with her 543 to make it a close ending between the teams. Dewey blasted 1103 for the Waves on his turn, propelling them far ahead as they close the game with 2246 overall in what is now looking quite like a win. Strawberry couldn't make a response for the Union, hitting 263 to give them 1335 in the loss. Oceanside is back above .500 at 14-13, while Modernistic's recent surge halts at 7-10.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds are in the second of a four-game home stand, while the Predators return home immediately after this game as part of a doubleheader. Shawn showed good pace for Midland on his turn, poking 608 to stake out a nice lead. Tigerette got cut down by a deflection for Commerce, ending on a mediocre 148. Rainmane had a lesser turn for the Predators, collecting only 224 to destabilize their lead. Ice Cream fired back with 810 for the Tradewinds, rallying them into the lead at the halfway mark with her brilliant performance. Leonardo shot back well for Midland, hammering 692 to restore a smaller lead for the visitors. Lionel put Commerce very narrowly ahead again with 590 on his turn, creating a drag race type of finish for these two teams. Fuchsia struck 535 for the Predators, putting them at a final score of 2059. Lorde came up short with 367 for the Tradewinds, costing them the game as they ended with 1915. Midland improves to 13-11 with the win, while Commerce slides to 8-9.

HP Field, Midland: The Predators return home to begin a three-game home stand against the Gems, who play in their second of three straight road games. Smokey led off with 289 for Diamond, a slightly weak outing for the captain. Shawn answered with 480 for Midland, giving the hosts the early lead. Citrus had a ball bounce off the knob of her bat, which she then sent well out of bounds to give the Gems only 115, not enough to cover the deficit. Rainmane countered with a big 504 for the Predators, padding their lead quite nicely at the halfway mark. Diamond continued to struggle as Pedey contributed a middling 248 to their scoring efforts. Leonardo slipped up at 108 for Midland, leaving them a bit vulnerable with a player each to go. Rosalina tried a comeback for the Gems, but her pace was too slow to help, and she ended on 345 to give the Gems a final of 997 in the loss. Fuchsia racked up another 538 for the Predators, giving them a final of 1630 in the win. Midland ascends again to 14-11, while Diamond is down to 9-14 with the loss.

IBM Nighthawks Nest, North Modernistic: The Nighthawks host their bitterest rivals for the first time in regular season action as the Union come to town. Ms. Puppy got going for Modernistic in their throwback greens with 519 at the start, a good mark from the captain. Peach answered with 681 for North Modernistic, putting them ahead initially with the strong turn. Daisy answered with 385 for the Union, covering the deficit against her best friend's team. Luigi essentially cancelled out that effort, corralling 384 for the Nighthawks to retain a similar lead at the halfway mark. Puff I kept Modernistic competitive with 566 on her turn, forcing the hosts to make a response again. Cheddar faltered with 280 for North Modernistic, putting them at a deficit with a player each to go. Strawberry had a meager 195 for the Union, leaving their final at 1665, a vulnerable score. Bright cashed in with 505 for the Nighthawks, carrying them to the win at 1850. North Modernistic takes the first of many meetings between these teams, going to 15-9, while Modernistic falls to 7-11 on the year.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows try desperately to save their season in this Northlands Derby match with the Wolves, who finish a seven-game road trip here. Juno had a measly 78 for Stonebridge at the beginning, a weak mark from their captain. Sally somehow managed to wrangle 400 despite a low pace for Archtown, giving the hosts a noticeable lead early on. Frosty kept the Wolves respectable, swatting 531 to cover the deficit this time around. Sleepy B. drilled 784 for the Arrows on her turn, extending their lead by quite a bit as the game reaches its halfway point. Cobalt had a ball skip over his bat quickly, ending his turn at 138 as Stonebridge is in quite a bit of trouble now. Ruby ignited another big rally for Archtown, slashing 904 to all but clinch the game in favor of the hosts. Prism tried a tricky backhand play, but ended up allowing another ball to take out his stumps, giving himself 359 and the Wolves 1106 in the loss that saw their travels catch up to them. Dusky kept it simple with 192 for the Arrows, icing their win at 2280. Archtown is now 10-17 on the year, while Stonebridge is 10-14 after the loss.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles look to reclaim sole possession of first place against the Monarchs, who play their second in a five-game road trip. Panda saw one of his worst games of the season with only 28 points for Southern to open the game. Goldy slugged her way to 1007 for Everton, putting them very far ahead early in the game. Hoppy did well for the Monarchs, approximately halving the deficit with her 465. Puff III shot back very readily with 550 for the Eagles, keeping their lead strong at the halfway mark. Pounce made some progress against the deficit for Southern, pounding 682 in a remarkable turn. Kirstin opted to decline the replay offering after a technical error, satisfied to post 531 against her former team, which helped to keep Everton in control with a player each to go. Shannon rallied more with 610 for the Monarchs, but they came up short at the end with 1785. Blizzard tacked on 545 for the Eagles at the end, bringing their total to 2633 in the win. Everton is in first again at 16-5, while Southern falls to 6-14 with the loss.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights look to take a share of third place when the Gems come to town in the last of their three-game road trip. Smokey misplayed the angle too early in his game, ending at just 37 for Diamond in a poor outing. Kiwi broke a mini-slump for Terrace City at home by knocking 568 at the start, staking out a nice lead for her team. Citrus countered with 611 for the Gems, covering the deficit in an impressive turn from the veteran. Jennifer got most of it back for the Knights, scooping up 599 to keep the hosts in control at the halfway mark. Pedey couldn't cover the deficit for Diamond, with his turn ending at 352. Oreo kept Terrace City on the right track, gaining a marginal bonus with 384 for Terrace City to stay far ahead. Rosalina had only 33 for the Gems in a difficult turn, ending at 1033 overall for the team in a deep loss to a much better team. Stripes took only 128 for the Knights, more than enough as they won with 1679. Terrace City is now 14-7, taking their share of third place, while Diamond is at 9-15.
