Tournament 2018 - Round 2 Day 13

We've got Tournament play resuming today after yesterday's unplanned off day. We'll begin with...

HP Field Events Center, Midland: Leonardo v. Lionel. Two strong players square off in 10-ball with the red cue to start the day. Midland's Leonardo displayed quality in his attack in game 1, but his four-ball run came to an end when Commerce's Lionel deferred possession after an illegally potted ball. Leonardo missed on the 9, and Lionel converted two shots at the end for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Predators' Leonardo bounced back in game 2, making a six-ball run to answer a three-ball run at the start by the Tradewinds' Lionel. Leonardo then took the 10 a turn later to grab the win, tying the series at 1. Game 3 drew a middle line between the extremes of the first two, going back-and-forth until Leonardo could pot the last two balls for the win and a 2-1 series lead. Leonardo will have a visitor role in the third round.

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Gizmo v. Spice. Reality club-mates meet in the second series today, playing 12-ball with the silver cue. Eastside's Gizmo potted one of each suit on the game 1 break, giving Victoria's Spice her first wild-card ball. Gizmo yielded another later, but Spice also gave one away, and this set Gizmo up to make his last two shots after a previous scratch. Gizmo converted, winning the game for a 1-0 lead in the series. The Sharks' Gizmo had a pair of balls drop on the break in game 2, and he even received a wild-card ball from the Spurs' Spice as she cleared defense late in the game. Gizmo failed to hit his last shot at a tough angle, giving Spice a clear look at her final two shots. Spice came through with the win, tying the series at 1. Spice had a four-ball run from the break to take all the corners early in game 3. Gizmo stayed sharp and nearly caught up, but he couldn't position the 9 at the top side with Spice playing defense, and Spice eventually made her last two shots for the win. Spice won the series 2-1, and will be the visitor in her third round series.

Microsoft Center, Del Sur: Dominic v. Twinkie I. Newcomers to the Coastal Derby will meet in a series of 9-ball with the silver cue. Southern's Dominic had a decent break and saw Pacific's Twinkie I scratch on her first turn after making the 1-7 combination. Dominic would have a later scratch end his three-ball run, but Twinkie I missed on the 9 at the end, and Dominic tapped it in for the win. Dominic holds a 1-0 series lead. The Monarchs' Dominic continued to play well in game 2, with a four-ball run early in the game, but he faltered in the end. The Volcanoes' Twinkie I emerged with the win when she made a pair of shots at the end, tying the series at 1. Twinkie I came out on a surge in game 3, making a three-ball run from the break. The middle of the game was poor until Dominic took over, and he made the 9 on his second try to topple Twinkie I. Dominic won the series 2-1, and will host his third round appearance.

Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Juno v. Puff III. A long-awaited round debut comes in this 8-ball series with the red cue. Stonebridge's Juno had a four-ball run from the break in game 1, but Everton's Puff III was even better, running the table in eight straight shots to secure a one-turn win for a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 went much slower, especially after the Eagles' Puff III bumped the 8 toward the top right. The Wolves' Juno kept things close for most of the game, and received a gift at the end when Puff III accidentally tapped the 8 in on an errant bank attempt. This helped Juno to tie the series at 1. Puff III had a slightly more efficient offense in game 2, and she managed to hold off a late comeback attempt by Juno before tapping in the 8 legally this time for the win. Puff III took the series 2-1, and will host the Commerce Tradewinds captain Tigerette in the third round.

Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Patches v. Ms. Puppy. Long-tenured captains meet in 15-ball with the red cue. Boston's Patches started out pretty well, but couldn't sustain her offense. Modernistic's Ms. Puppy took over in the middle of the game, making an eight-ball run-out look easy as she claimed a 1-0 series lead on a strong win. Game 2 also saw a mixed start to the action, which ended with the Union's Ms. Puppy scratching. The Swifts' Patches proceeded to piece together a seven-ball run with a lot of luck, until she missed on the 15 at the bottom right. Ms. Puppy converted this shot, earning the win and clinching the series at 2-0. Patches struggled with motivation for game 3, and it showed in her miss on the 4. This led Ms. Puppy to pot the 4 and then use the 5 to glance the cue into the 15, potting it at the bottom right for the win and 3-0 series sweep. Ms. Puppy advances to the third round.

Toyota Arena, Freedom: Stripes v. Ruby. The silver cue gets its turn at 15-ball in this series between veterans. Game 1 had a mostly unremarkable start, with plenty of changes in possession for most of the early going. Freedom's Stripes took longer to get her offense going, and this allowed Archtown's Ruby to capitalize on a 6-15 combination to the top right for the win and the 1-0 series lead. The Cascades' Stripes took game 2 on her first turn after the Arrows' Ruby had an empty break. Stripes double-potted the 1 to the bottom side and the 13 to the bottom right, and then sent the 2-15 combination to the top side, tying the series at 1 with the win. Game 3 saw no early finish, as both players battled right up to the end. Stripes had the inside track to get onto the 15, but she muffed her shot at the bottom left, and Ruby sent it to the bottom right to claim the win for a 2-1 series win. Ruby will play on into the third round.

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: Bear v. Shelley. The silver cue remains in action for an 8-ball series now. Whitewater's Bear had a decent start after some struggles early on, potting the last four balls over two turns while Infinity's Shelley scuffled with a lack of clear shots. Bear easily took the win and a 1-0 series lead. Neither player seemed intent on finishing up game 2, with the Shores' Bear rallying as the Torpedoes' Shelley gave him about four too many turns. Bear still couldn't get the 8, leaving it on the edge of the top right, where Shelley tapped it in for the win to tie the series at 1 game apiece. Bear had all of the early offense in game 3, until a five-ball run by Shelley occurred. That run ended in a scratch, but Shelley would not be denied, using all the space on the table to pick up a three-ball run-out a couple of turns later. Shelley took the series 2-1, and will host her series in the third round.

Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Twinkie I v. Stripes. Both players have their second series of the day in 10-ball with the silver cue. Pacific's Twinkie I put the 4 close to the 10 in game 1, causing a panic for both players. Freedom's Stripes turned ultra-defensive, which would fail when she missed on the 3 at tap-in range, allowing Twinkie I to win with the 4-10 combination two shots later. Twinkie I gained a 1-0 series lead. The Volcanoes' Twinkie I didn't have the cleanest performance in game 2, missing a lot of shots after an early burst. The Cascades' Stripes took her time in picking up the slack until she found a four-ball run-out for the win, tying the series at 1. Stripes had some of the early offense in game 3, carrying the pace to the middle of the game. Twinkie I wouldn't be defeated so easily, making a four-ball run-out with a 6-10 combination to the bottom right as the clincher. Twinkie I will host the Golden Pilots' Strut in the third round.

AT&T Hall, Oceanside: Dewey v. Katelynn. After a break, the red cue will play this series of Accuracy. Oceanside's Dewey started a bit slow in game 1, but managed to force Lighton's Katelynn into a couple of misses to tie the game. Both players missed their first shot in overtime, and then Dewey won when Katelynn scratched later on, by a 3-4 score for the 1-0 series lead. The Prestige's Katelynn had a double-pot early in game 2 that led to some misfortune soon after. The Waves' Dewey couldn't hold the lead, dropping pairs of shots near the middle of the game to fall behind. Katelynn wouldn't miss again after her early troubles, winning 2-4 to tie the series at 1. Dewey and Katelynn tangled pretty closely early in game 3, the two players battling for position on every shot. Katelynn slipped up later on, and couldn't find her way back into the game as Dewey won 2-5 for a 2-1 series win. Dewey will host the Infinity Torpedoes' Shelley in the third round.

Microsoft Center, Del Sur: Dominic v. Gradley. The host is on his second series today when he plays 10-ball with the red cue. Southern's Dominic began with a clinical six-ball run, aided partially by Boston's Gradley choosing to defer possession. Game 1 ended less smoothly, with Dominic potting the 10 after Gradley couldn't find his shot. Dominic took the series lead 1-0 with this win. The Monarchs' Dominic showed much less quality in game 2, and he haphazardly shot at the 8-10 combination late in the game. The Swifts' Gradley had little trouble cutting the same combination to the top left to get the win, tying the series at 1. Dominic had no trouble striking early for the win in game 3, slipping a 4-10 combination to the top right after Gradley had exhausted his opening run. Dominic took the series 2-1, and will host Victoria Spurs rookie Sage in the third round.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Caitlin Woode v. Solaris. The silver cue steps in for a turn in Accuracy. Southridge's Caitlin suffered a scratch on the break, beginning a sequence that would see multiple lead changes until Infinity's Solaris finally nailed down the win at 5-6 in regulation after Caitlin had another scratch late. Solaris leads the series 1-0. The Torpedoes' Solaris lost his cool after a sloppy break led to trouble in the middle of game 2. Every time the Defenders' Caitlin missed, Solaris squandered a chance to make it a closer game, allowing Caitlin to get by on a 5-7 win to tie the series at 1. Solaris kept things competitive for a bit longer in game 3 before another late collapse doomed him. Solaris' final shot with the game decided was a scratch, as Caitlin took the 2-5 win to win the series 2-1. Caitlin will host a series in the third round.

Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Gradley v. Peach. The final series today is in 7-ball with the blue cue. Boston's Gradley had a five-ball run on his second turn in game 1, and then made the 7 that the North Modernistic captain Peach missed on her second turn. Gradley's strong performance gives him a 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Peach had a productive counterattack in game 2, allowing the Swifts' Gradley some early possession before shutting him down on her own four-ball run-out. Peach's late surge tied the series at 1 game apiece. Gradley and Peach went back and forth for much of the early part of game 3. Gradley had a chance to develop a late run, but scratched as he made a deflected shot on the 6. Peach made the last two shots to get the win for a 2-1 series win. Peach will be the visitor in her third round series.

That'll be all for today's games. We'll have more Tournament early tomorrow, and game 5s in the first round of the Hutton Cup will follow that.

Hutton Cup - First Round, Game 4

We're back with more Hutton Cup first round action in this one, beginning with...

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates send Max back to the bench after his bad game, while Marsell remains out of action for rest for the Shores in an important game 4. Bear couldn't handle a low deflection for Whitewater, crashing out at 177 on a weak opener. Delila had a fantastic attack with 1421 for Atlantic, likely deciding the game on the first turn with such a turn. Twinkie III took a chunk out of the deficit with 570 for the Shores, but they have a long way to go. Isabella scattered another 918 for the Pirates, bringing the home crowd to euphoria at the midway point. Katharine had a mild 304 for Whitewater, unable to cut into the deficit. Steven faltered at 96 for Atlantic, slightly weakening their massive lead. Shaggy had a decent look with 426 for the Shores, putting their losing total at 1477. Klaus handled 450 for the Pirates at the end, icing a big win at 2885. Atlantic now has a 3-1 series lead as they leave home, growing stronger every game.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades have been surprisingly good, and will rest their captain Jasmine for game 4, while the visiting Pilots sit Valencia after two straight bad games from the captain. Dusty smacked 848 for Golden in a productive start to the game for the visitors. Stinky dropped at 180 for Freedom after a deflection brought his turn to an early end. Strut showed off some flexibility with the bat, grabbing 434 for the Pilots on the second attack. Roxy couldn't piece anything together for the Cascades with 309, causing them to lose a little more ground. Sparkles had an awful 28 for Golden on her turn, faltering at the wrong time for the visitors. Nikolai didn't do any better with 60 for Freedom, a wasted opportunity for him to make his imprint on the game. A. Charlton supplied 552 for the Pilots at the end of the game, giving them a total of 1862. Stripes failed to catch up with 298 for the Cascades, leaving them in a loss at 847. Golden confidently attacked their way back into a tied series at 2 games apiece.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige see their season on the line and will sit their struggling captain Acorn, while the Swifts give Gradley the game off in this one. Patches showed no mercy in carving out 820 on the first turn for Boston, giving her side a significant lead immediately. Spirit managed 319 for Lighton, unable to do much else for the hosts. Puff II answered with 371 for the Swifts, a slightly weaker attack than the visitors are used to. Katelynn made a push with 799 for the Prestige, cutting deeply into the deficit to create a close game at the halfway mark. Sweetheart picked up 351 after an offering ducked under her bat to take the Boston star's wicket. Nicole lost ground with 329 for Lighton, unable to sustain a hot pace from early in the turn. Ice Cream had only 176 for the Swifts at the end, giving them a total of 1718 in their worst game yet. Waluigi couldn't complete the Prestige comeback, a stereotypical bad swing ending his turn at 144 for their losing total to sit at 1591. Boston survives a nervy finish to the series, advancing on a 4-0 sweep into the quarterfinals.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes keep Solaris on the bench for some learning experience, while the visiting Warriors, rotate Noelle out of the lineup. Twilight couldn't get past a mild attack for Central, falling at 353 with the just acceptable turn. Smudge cranked 1258 for Infinity on their opening turn, a great performance to stake out a large lead for the hosts. Dustin managed only 318 for the Warriors, who have spent a game and a half struggling to score now. Fluffina replied with 529 for the Torpedoes, a good supporting attack to help the hosts maintain their lead. Mario fell at 207 for Central, the pressure of being responsible for their comeback clearly affecting him. Shelley popped 518 for Infinity with good pace, extending their lead once again. Wings stayed in step with the rest of the Warriors at 288, their flat offense getting run over at a total of 1166. Mr. Snowman slashed 624 more for the Torpedoes at the end, capping a massive win at 2929. Infinity will look to take their home success on the road in game 5, having erased a 2-0 series deficit by tying the series at 2.

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds have Leandra on the bench in a pre-planned move, while the Predators sit their captain Shawn due to road form concerns. Rainmane made a mess of the start with only 44 for Midland, getting beat by a hittable deflection. Princess played a mostly safe turn with 537 for Tysini, giving them a sizable lead right away. Leonardo tried to go to his backhand for the Predators, but he flicked a ball too high and fell at 173 to stall the comeback effort. Charli couldn't get much going with 304 for the Hummingbirds, but that was enough to grow their lead. Americus failed for Midland at just 9 points, the visitors resigning themselves to a loss. Brownie picked up 427 for Tysini at this point, boosting their lead again with the solid outing. Fuchsia rallied with 629 for the Predators, giving them some respectability despite the loss at a final score of 855. Paps quickly iced the Hummingbirds win with his 144, giving them a total of 1412. Tysini got work done at home, tying the series at 2 after trailing early on.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters cycle Lorde out of the lineup in game 4 as they go for the sweep, while the Rockers postpone Midnight's rest again to sit Goatee instead. Misty pummeled 855 for Westside on the opening turn, giving them a great start in the game. Chris had only 192 for Capital City this time, putting them in a deep deficit to start the game. Slinks faltered at a mediocre 248 for the Rockers, potentially weakening their lead. Missy floated a ball a bit too slowly, causing a deflection that stopped her at 208 for the Sharpshooters. Midnight stayed hot with 762 for Westside, padding their lead once again as it looks positive for the visitors. Sprinkles replied with 463 for Capital City, but that won't get them any closer to covering the large deficit. Cowzart got beat at 145 for the Rockers, weakening them to a total of 2010 at the end of the game. Pauline struck 520 for the Sharpshooters, getting about half of the deficit back as they fell with 1383. Westside has their first win of the series as they head back home down 3-1 to Capital City.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders go without Caitlin in this game, while the Blades sit their struggling star Stealth in hopes of turning things around. Snowball had a deflection that stopped her at 184 for Swordpoint in another disappointing start from the captain. Bianca answered with 520 for Southridge to get them going in a positive direction. Dreamy did worse for the Blades with 176 on her turn, putting a halt to a quick comeback attempt. Debby had her weakest game yet for the Defenders with 361, but they maintain a decent lead. Bandit made a dent in the deficit with 458 for Swordpoint, not quite enough to get them ahead just yet. Stephanie shot back with 490 for Southridge, keeping them in control of the game heading into the final players' turns. Jason N. made an effort with 576 for the Blades, giving them a final score of 1394 to force the hosts into a small response. Hughbert would not be denied, belting 907 to give the Defenders a strong win at 2278. Southridge leaves home ahead 3-1 in the series.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns are leading the series and sitting Jake out of game 4, while the Eagles look to get back on track with Blizzard on the bench for rest. Goldy went with 256 for Everton at the start, losing her pace before a ball skipped over her bat to end the turn. Kayla answered with 294 for Royal, giving the hosts only a small lead to begin the game. Puff III stumbled at 128 for the Eagles, unable to push them further ahead on the second attack. Jeremias did even worse with only 16 for the Crowns, the sloppy game tilting to the visitors at the midway mark. Cleo got some favorable bounces in recording 531 for Everton to pad their newfound lead. Nightfur answered with 616 for Royal, keeping things close as the final players step up to bat. Kirstin failed for the Eagles at 25 points, leaving them at a pathetic 940 overall. Cassie took 147 to secure the win for the Crowns at a total of 1073. Royal has gotten the better of Everton a third time, leading the series 3-1 as they head back on the road.

That's all for cricket today. We'll be back with the seven remaining series playing their game 5s tomorrow.

Hutton Cup - First Round, Game 3

We've switched to venues for the Elite and Select teams in the Hutton Cup, as this post will contain the game 3s to be played. We begin with...

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige are without Katelynn again in game 3 as they try to dig out of a deep deficit against the Swifts, who will rest their captain Patches. Puff II shrugged off a sluggish start for Boston, slapping 831 once she got comfortable to set the tone immediately. Acorn got beat on a deflection at 58 for Lighton, hardly making any impact against the deficit. Gradley fired off 706 for the Swifts, finding a comfortable and successful groove on his turn. Spirit answered with 671 for the Prestige, doing enough to nearly offset the most recent damage. Sweetheart slugged 1049 for Boston on her turn, keeping them firmly ahead as the game progresses. Nicole continued to give Lighton a respectable attack with her 610, but the deficit also continues to grow against them. Ice Cream tallied 420 for the Swifts at the end, icing their offense at 3006 in a likely win. Waluigi did well with 487 for the Prestige, but that wasn't enough when they lost at 1826. Boston has a commanding 3-0 series lead and shows no signs of slowing down with a sweep opportunity available.

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds return home and will rest Brownie after her pool appearances, while the Predators sit a slumping Rainmane as they look to extend their series lead. Shawn had a mediocre start with 224 for Midland, leaving them exposed early on. Princess did better with 463 for Tysini on her turn, putting them ahead initially. Leonardo pulled in 550 for the Predators on the second attack, covering the deficit pretty well with his performance. Leandra rallied with 624 for the Hummingbirds, restoring the lead for the hosts halfway through the game. Americus gathered 368 for Midland, putting them narrowly ahead at this point. Charli fired back with 441 for Tysini, making another gain for the hosts on a good turn. Fuchsia lined 657 for the Predators at the end, capping their offense at 1799 to force a response from the hosts. Paps went with 324 for the Hummingbirds, leaving them at a total of 1852 in a narrow win. Midland still has a 2-1 series lead and will look to regroup in the next game.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: Hutton Cup action hits the far east when the Cascades sit Nikolai against the Pilots, who will go without Sparkles in a critical game 3 for both sides. Valencia's recent struggles persisted as she had only 24 for Golden to begin this game. Jasmine didn't get as big of an attack as she would have liked, ending on 352 to put Freedom ahead decently. Dusty had two false starts before submitting a pathetic 66 that has the Pilots in panic mode already. Stinky pummeled 629 for the Cascades, keeping his pace lower to have a chance at sustaining his offense for longer time. Strut countered with 546 for Golden, but the game seems to be getting away from the visitors. Roxy faltered a bit at 256 for Freedom, but they still hold a noticeable lead heading into the final players' turns. A. Charlton put in a good effort with 557 for the Pilots, their final resting at 1193 in the loss. Stripes had a modest 233 for the Cascades, icing their win at 1470. Freedom has a surprising 2-1 series lead with this win.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns have their most consistent attacker, Jeremias, on the bench, but the Eagles are resting Cleo at the same time as one team will gain an advantage. Goldy looked alright for Everton, a couple of close calls going her way as she recorded 463 to start the game. Kayla answered with 665 for Royal on their first turn, pulling the hosts ahead initially. Puff III fumbled her way to 129 for the Eagles, showing no confidence on her swings. Jake looked just as bad with only 105 for the Crowns on their second attack, weakening their lead a little bit. Kirstin couldn't help the cause for Everton, sending a ball high out of play at 115 to stall their comeback. Nightfur made a small gain with 288 for Royal, padding their lead slightly with a player each to go. Blizzard shelved 431 for the Eagles, forcing a response from the hosts to the visitors' finale score of 1138. Cassie did enough with 162 for the Crowns, capping their narrow win at 1220. Royal wins ugly to pull ahead 2-1 in the series.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: Both teams keep their lineups from game 2 for game 3, with the hosts sitting Solaris and the visitors benching Wings, rest factoring in for both players. Twilight stayed on pace from the last game with 467 for Central, a solid opener from the captain. Smudge answered with 519 for Infinity, playing at a low pace but doing enough to gain the lead. Dustin went to his backhand for the Warriors when a ball skipped up, and this caused his exit at just 93 points. Fluffina kept the Torpedoes aggressive with 735 on their second attack to create a large lead. Mario regained 423 for Central on his turn, but they remain significantly behind at this point. Shelley had a huge pace and tallied 572 for Infinity this time, extending their lead again. Noelle collapsed at 64 points for the Warriors, leaving them in a loss with 1047. Mr. Snowman lifted 616 for the Torpedoes at the end, capping their win at 2442. Infinity has cut Central's series lead to 2-1.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates have Klaus on the bench again for more rest, while the Shores will sit Marsell out of both games 3 and 4. Bear got off to a strong start with 428 for Whitewater, giving them something to build on later in the game. Delila lined 737 for Atlantic, clearly enjoying the comforts of home as the hosts hold a decent lead. Twinkie III fired back with 482 for the Shores, doing her part to cover the deficit lightly on the second attack. Isabella fought that off with 776 for the Pirates, giving them a stronger lead midway through the game. Katharine fell at 159 for Whitewater, damaging their chances of a comeback with the weak turn. Steven struck another 584 for Atlantic on his turn, keeping their lead commanding late in the game. Shaggy couldn't mount a comeback for the Shores, leaving them with a loss with 297 individually for 1366 total. Max had a sloppy 87 for the Pirates, but it was plenty to take the win at a total of 2184. Atlantic's great offense takes them to a 2-1 series lead.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders see their lead-off hitter Bianca take the bench, while the visiting Blades are once again without their captain Snowball. Dreamy had a deflection in mid-air, ending her turn at 271 as the deflected offering clipped the boundary to stall the Swordpoint star. Debby answered with 535 for Southridge, a strong start to give the hosts a nice lead at first. Bandit hit 307 for the Blades, barely covering the deficit facing them with the alright appearance. Stephanie answered with 312 for the Defenders, keeping their lead steady at the halfway point. Stealth got caught watching the offering, which set him behind on his swings during a short turn that ultimately crashed out at 30 points for Swordpoint. Caitlin calmly added 259 to the Southridge offense, giving them small bursts to maintain the lead. Jason N. fell with 216 for the Blades, not even putting up a fight as they suffer the loss at 824. Hughbert chipped 311 at the end to seal the Defenders win at 1417. Southridge has their first lead of the series at 2-1.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters look to continue their success at home even without their captain Chris playing, while the visiting Rockers rest Slinks for this game. Misty knocked 599 for Westside right away, a strong output for the visiting captain. Missy answered with 497 for Capital City, keeping things close right from the start of the game. Goatee finished at 329 for the Rockers after an unfortunate bounce sent a ball behind her wicket. Sprinkles pulled the Sharpshooters ahead with her 650, sending the hosts to a lead at the midway mark. Midnight shot back with 687 for Westside, covering the deficit with the aggressive attack. Lorde collapsed at 272 for Capital City, unable to keep up with the pace of the game. Cowzart got stuck at 264 for the Rockers in the end, giving them a final score of 1879. Pauline fired back with 579 for the Sharpshooters, carrying them to the win at 1998. Capital City is on the verge of a sweep with a 3-0 series lead.

Game 3s are now complete. We'll have some game 4s on Twitter @UnitedPCL later, and likely tomorrow as well before Tournament play resumes after an unscheduled day off.

Tournament 2018 - Round 2 Day 12

We're set to go on another Tournament game day, beginning with...

BMW RockDome, Westside: Slinks v. Anton. The blue cue gets the first series today, playing Rotation between a veteran and a rookie. Westside's Slinks had a decent start to game 1, and then pulled away from Todavía's Anton later on. Anton rallied his way back into the game before Slinks shut the door on an 8-5 win to give herself a 1-0 series lead. The Rockers' Slinks again started well in game 2 before a lull, which saw the Stills' Anton catch up to her. Slinks pulled away with good defensive positioning, making four balls off of two missed contact plays by Anton. Slinks took the win 8-3, clinching the series at 2-0. Slinks made a three-ball run at the start and the end of the game, cancelling out one three-ball run by Anton in the middle that ended with illegal contact. Slinks' finishing move for the 8-5 win was an 11-15-14 combination, then an 11-15 combination, and finally the 11 alone along the right rail to the top right. Slinks swept the series 3-0 and will host a third round series.

Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Twinkie II v. Spot. Two good players clash in 15-ball with the red cue. Harrison's Twinkie II left the 15 in some dangerous places in the middle of game 1, but Pronger's Spot couldn't capitalize, and Twinkie II ended up winning on a six-ball run-out by the end. Twinkie II holds a 1-0 series lead. The Specters' Twinkie II started well in game 2, but she lost her touch later on. The Tridents' Spot had a three-ball run to take a grasp on the game, and made the final pair of shots at the end to get the win, tying the series at 1. Game 3 went horribly on both sides, with most shots being partially or fully obstructed. No runs developed in the game, and Spot lost his temper a bit. Twinkie II held her cool long enough to pot the 15 for the win and a 2-1 series win. Twinkie II will visit a Northeastern rival, the Central Warriors superstar Dustin, in the third round.

Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Leonette v. Tigerette. Two big-name players clash in 10-ball with the blue cue. Commerce's Tigerette found a couple moments of good offense in game 1, but when it came down to a long chase on the 10, Pacific's Leonette eventually emerged with the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Volcanoes' Leonette saw a six-ball run early in game 2, allowed to reach that length when the Tradewinds' Tigerette deferred possession after Leonette's illegal potting of the 5. Tigerette missed on her only turn, and Leonette capped the win on a four-ball run-out to seal the series at 2-0. Tigerette struggled in game 3, her only turn coming after Leonette's nine-ball run that scooped up the 10 illegally on the break. Tigerette scratched on her second shot, and Leonette won from ball-in-hand to take the series in a 3-0 sweep. Leonette will visit the Southridge Defenders' Stephanie in the third round.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Goatee v. Leandra. Current club-mates square off in another 10-ball series, this one with the silver cue. Both players had a lot of chances to take control of game 1, but neither did so. Tysini's Leandra came closest, making the 10 on a cut but also scratching, which left Westside's Goatee to convert from ball-in-hand for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Hummingbirds' Leandra held a much more dominant share of game 2's offense, pummeling three-ball runs multiple times. The Rockers' Goatee under-hit the 8 at the top right on one of her few clear shots, and Leandra swooped in with a three-ball run-out after that to take the win, tying the series at 1. Goatee made improvements in game 3, taking a majority of the offense, but her late fade cost her, as Leandra made the final pair of shots to earn the win and a 2-1 series win. Leandra will host the Whitewater Shores' Marsell in the third round after this comeback effort.

Gillette Center, Swordpoint: Stealth v. Katelynn. The blue cue returns to action for a series of 15-ball in a Southwestern Derby. Swordpoint's Stealth got a few shots in early in game 1, but the end of the game was all Katelynn, as Lighton's returnee made five of the last six shots over two turns to grab the win and a 1-0 lead in the series. The Prestige's Katelynn kept her offense strong in game 2, with two pairs of shots late in the game to sandwich a three-ball run by the Blades' Stealth. Katelynn's attempt on the 15 went all wrong with a scratch, and Stealth mopped it up from ball-in-hand to tie the series at 1 with his hard-fought win. Stealth and Katelynn battled closely again, with each making a three-ball run late in the game. For Katelynn's benefit, her run came at the end to get the win, giving her a 2-1 series win and a hosting position in the third round.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Blizzard v. Solaris. The reigning MVP finds herself on thin ice when she faces a sophomore sensation in 7-ball with the silver cue. Everton's Blizzard held her own early on, then made a lucky two-rail bank on the 6 to the bottom side before cutting the 7 to the top side at a narrow angle to beat Infinity's Solaris in game 1. Blizzard has a 1-0 series lead. The Eagles' Blizzard had a decent finish in game 2 after both she and the Torpedoes' Solaris started slowly. Blizzard took ball-in-hand after a bad miss from Solaris, making a four-ball run-out to clinch the series at 2-0. Blizzard didn't develop any runs in game 3, and briefly went under attack from Solaris toward the end. Blizzard capped the 3-0 series sweep with a two-rail bank of the 7 to the top side, her second such shot in the series. Blizzard will host another Torpedo, Mr. Snowman, in the third round.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Chris v. Graham. Two captains take to the table in Accuracy with the blue cue. Capital City's Chris made a ball on the break in game 1, and then held on during the toughest part while Eastside's Graham crumbled. Chris stayed near-perfect the whole game, winning 1-4 to take a 1-0 series lead. The Sharpshooters' Chris fell behind early in game 2 after an empty break, but the Sharks' Graham only held the lead briefly. Most of the game was spent tied until Graham missed again, and Chris stayed strong to the finish, banking the 1 to the top right for the 1-2 win at the end. Chris secured the series at 2-0 with the gutsy effort. Chris had an absolute stunner triple-pot in regulation of game 3, making the 15 deflected off the 8 to the top side, with the 8 deflecting off the 2 and falling in the top right while the 2 ran to the bottom right. Graham stayed strong, making a bank on the 7 to keep the game perfect. Chris faltered on the overtime break, and Graham took the 0-1 win, but Chris advances on a 2-1 series win to host a third round series.

Intel Center, Diamond: Citrus v. Cassie. A veteran takes on a rookie as the silver cue is back for more 7-ball. Diamond's Citrus had a decent first turn, but when Royal's Cassie missed contact on the 2, Citrus took over with a three-ball run-out from ball-in-hand to earn the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Gems' Citrus made three balls on the game 2 break, then failed to strike again at any point in the game. Her missed contact on the 3 led the Crowns' Cassie to a strong four-ball run-out, as the visitor demonstrated good positioning to pick up the win, tying the series at 1. Cassie started on a five-ball run in game 3, and then backed it up by making the 7 right after Citrus missed her one chance at it. Cassie's comeback gave her a 2-1 series win, and she'll visit the Stonebridge Wolves' Cobalt in the third round.

IBM Cathedral, North Modernistic: B. Chapman v. Jasmine. Two veterans with a bit of history clash in Accuracy with the red cue. North Modernistic's Chapman produced a rough break in game 1, leading to some struggles for both players early on. Freedom's Jasmine was behind for awhile until Chapman faltered in the middle. Jasmine made it work, winning 2-4 and finishing with a double-pot to take a 1-0 series lead. The Cascades' Jasmine would not be denied in game 2, keeping a perfect form for the entire game, while the Nighthawks' Chapman missed once early and twice late in a 0-3 loss. Jasmine clinched the series at 2-0 in the effort. Neither player had much left in the tank for game 3, but Jasmine still came out on top with a 4-6 win to sweep Chapman 3-0. Jasmine will be a visitor again in her third round series.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Bianca v. Marsell. A sophomore and a rising star are set to face off in 7-ball with the blue cue after a break. Southridge's Bianca made a ball on the game 1 break, but struggled after that. Whitewater's Marsell was far from dominant himself, getting lucky with a triple-kiss on the 7 to bump it to the top right for the win and a 1-0 series lead to the visitor. The Shores' Marsell had a disappointing break in game 1, leaving a 1-7 combination for the Defenders' Bianca to convert. Bianca came through on the shot, but also scratched at the bottom right to give the series away to Marsell at 2-0. Bianca played better in game 3, answering a three-ball run from Marsell with her own three-ball run-out. This made it a 2-1 series win for Marsell, who will visit the Capital City Sharpshooters' Missy in the third round.

Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Chicky Phil v. Sleepy B. The silver cue closes its day in 15-ball between veterans. Archtown's Sleepy B. had a lot to be upset about in game 1, as she missed a few simple shots in a tough game 1, but she did pick up the win when Pacific's Chicky Phil lost his grip on his shot late in the game. Sleepy B. owns a 1-0 series lead. The Arrows' Sleepy B. plastered the rack on her game 2 break, making a pair of shots, which accounted for the highlight of her offense. The Volcanoes' Chicky Phil took some time to warm up to the game, but he managed a six-ball run-out in the end for the win, tying the series at 1. Chicky Phil had nothing on his break, but converted a glancing shot off the 2 to pot the 15 in the bottom right, while sending the 9 to the bottom left for a double-pot. Chicky Phil won the series 2-1 with this trick shot, and he will visit the Web City Spiders' Jack in the third round.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Misty v. Wings. Today's final series is in Rotation with the red cue. Westside's Misty took the win 8-7 over Central's Wings in game 1, winning the back-and-forth battle after Wings had controlled the first half pretty confidently. Misty's second-half surge put her ahead 1-0 in the series. The Warriors' Wings again took the lead in game 2, and again the Rockers' Misty kept things close for most of the game. The two tangled until Wings could make a three-ball run-out at the end for the 8-6 win, tying the series at 1 as the finale should be close and will be decisive. Game 3 had a lot of the same early back-and-forth play, but Wings found a miracle four-ball run-out in the end to defeat Misty 8-4, taking the series 2-1 in the process. Wings advances to the third round.

That's it for today's activities. We'll have cricket and pool tomorrow.

Tournament 2018 - Round 2 Day 11

Tournament action is back on Memorial Day in the USA, with a standard set of games to be expected. We begin with...

Cisco Arena, Tysini: Brownie v. Snowball. A daughter hosts her own mother in 7-ball with the silver cue between Southwestern rivals. Tysini's Brownie needed a few turns to find her form, and Swordpoint's Snowball made no attack to stop her daughter. Brownie eventually picked up the win on a four-ball run-out, giving her a 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Snowball turned the tables in game 2, watching the Hummingbirds' Brownie have a decent start before shuttering that positivity with her own four-ball run-out. Snowball's late rally for the win tied the series at 1. Brownie had a chance at the win in game 3, but she missed the 5-7 combination, and Snowball converted it on the next shot to the bottom right. Snowball's timely pick-up gave her the 2-1 series win, sending her to Modernistic in the third round to face the Union captain Ms. Puppy.

McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Klaus v. Whiskers. Two talented players face off in Accuracy with the red cue. Atlantic's Klaus faltered early in game 1, allowing Maplewood's Whiskers to enjoy the lead for awhile. Whiskers couldn't hold on, and while she tried to force Klaus to miss at the end, the host held on for a 3-4 win to take a 1-0 series lead. The Pirates' Klaus made a ball on the break in game 2, and had some good shooting before falling apart in the middle of the game. The Lumberjacks' Whiskers briefly fell into a tie after missing the last ball, but Klaus had an inexplicably bad miss, and Whiskers finished ahead 4-5, tying the series at 1. Klaus kept himself in game 3 for awhile despite two early misses, but he fell apart at the end, and Whiskers never let up, winning 1-5 thanks to some fortunate deflections and bounces. Whiskers took the series 2-1 and will host the Diamond Gems' Citrus in the third round.

Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Mitchell v. Cleo. A rookie and a returnee play the blue cue's first series today in 12-ball. Harrison's Mitchell needed only three turns to win in game 1, a four-ball run on the middle turn doing plenty to stall Everton's Cleo. Mitchell picked up a 1-0 series lead after the good performance. The Eagles' Cleo was just as good, if not better in game 2, after the Specters' Mitchell gave away a wild-card ball on the break. Cleo made a three-ball run on her first turn, and then double-potted the 10-14 combination to the bottom right, with the 10 deflecting to the top side to secure the win. Cleo's miracle shot tied the series at 1. Mitchell and Cleo tangled early in game 3, with both trying to push themselves into position. Mitchell got a breakthrough with a three-ball run and his last ball on the edge of the required pocket. Cleo tried to pull off two banks in a row, but the first failed, and Mitchell made his tap-in to win, taking the series 2-1. Mitchell will host Swordpoint Blades sophomore Bandit in the third round.

Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Patches v. Marsell. The silver cue returns to the table for a 10-ball series. Boston's Patches left the 10 too close to the top right on an otherwise empty break in game 1, and Whitewater's Marsell deflected the cue off the 1, which went in the bottom right, to tap the 10 in for the win. Marsell's one-shot victory puts him ahead 1-0 in the series. The Shores' Marsell accidentally potted the 10 and scratched on the break, leading to a big run on the first turn for the Swifts' Patches in game 2. Patches' last two shots of the run were illegally potted balls before Marsell claimed possession, but his second turn didn't last long. Patches returned after Marsell missed on his second shot, making a three-ball run-out to tie the offensively-powered series at 1. Game 3 went much slower as the players turned to a defensive stance. Patches had the makings of a run going before she missed on the 6, and Marsell turned up the heat with a four-ball run-out to get the win. Marsell's hard push earned him a 2-1 series win and a visiting spot in the third round.

Toyota Arena, Freedom: Nikolai v. Chicky Phil. The red cue will be done for the day after playing this 10-ball series. Game 1 went rather quickly after Freedom's Nikolai produced a good break. Both players made short runs, with a pair of shots by Pacific's Chicky Phil yielding to Nikolai making a three-ball run-out for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Volcanoes' Chicky Phil had plenty of offense in game 2, getting a four-ball run to highlight the middle of the game before tapping in the 10 after the Cascades' Nikolai rattled it out of the bottom right. Chicky Phil's strong win tied the series at 1. Chicky Phil absolutely dominated in game 3, making a six-ball run from the break and a three-ball run from ball-in-hand after leaving Nikolai snookered for his first turn. Chicky Phil's only mistake was scratching as he made the 9, gifting Nikolai ball-in-hand for the 10, which Nikolai converted to take the series 2-1. Nikolai moves on, quite fortunately, to the third round.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Midnight v. Josie. A tough veteran takes on an equally tough rookie in Rotation with the silver cue. Westside's Midnight struck first on the break, but couldn't get free of Oceanside's Josie in the early going. Josie pulled ahead later on, and finished the game with a pair of shots to win 8-5, earning a 1-0 lead in the series. The Rockers' Midnight had to start from behind in game 2, and nearly pulled it off, but when she took a late lead, the Waves' Josie was there to answer. Josie did well on her final turn, a four-ball run-out to pull ahead for an 8-6 win that sealed the series at 2-0 in her favor. Josie and Midnight went back and forth in an exciting game 3 performance. Josie had a late surge to gain the lead briefly, but Midnight pulled back on a three-ball run, and then tapped in the 14 to the bottom right for the 8-6 win. Josie still took the series 2-1 on the strength of game 1, putting her into the third round.

Kraft Forum, Royal: Jeremias v. Cobalt. The silver cue stays in action for another 7-ball series. Royal's Jeremias had a pair of shots on his first turn and a three-ball run on his second in game 1, but he missed contact on the 6, and Stonebridge's Cobalt capitalized with a pair of shots of his own to grab the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Wolves' Cobalt didn't have a strong start in game 2, and when the Crowns' Jeremias started gaining steam, Cobalt could not stop him. Jeremias ultimately won on a three-ball run-out, tying the series at 1 with the impressive effort. Jeremias had some offense in game 3, but the play early on was spotty on both sides. Toward the end of the game, Jeremias missed a chance to build a run, and Cobalt struck on a three-ball run-out to take the win for a 2-1 series win. Cobalt will play on into the third round.

Ebay Center, Queens: Kyle v. Rudolph. Staying in the Southeast, the silver cue gets a look in 9-ball this time. Queens' Kyle made a ball on the break but also scratched to lead off game 1. Harrison's Rudolph attacked with a five-ball run, but Kyle struck back on a three-ball run-out for the win, giving the host a 1-0 series lead. Both players took a large step back in shot quality for game 2, with the worst instance of this being when the Specters' Rudolph missed a short-range shot on the 9. The Flames' Kyle, who arguably had the better performance, tapped it in, clinching the series at 2-0. Kyle had a four-ball run from the break, and then made the 9 on a deflection off the 7 on his second turn to claim the win and a 3-0 series sweep. Kyle will be the visitor at the Victoria Spurs' Strawberry in the third round.

Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Lexi Woode v. Melissa Benoist. The blue cue wraps up its day in 8-ball. Terrace City's Melissa worked up a lead for most of game 1, but it all crashed down when Harrison's Lexi found her shot late. Lexi pummeled a four-ball run-out, taking the win and a 1-0 series lead in the process. The Specters' Lexi had a better start with a ball on the break of game 2, but she couldn't supplement the attack, as the Knights' Melissa tore through a seven-ball run-out on her second turn to earn the win. Melissa's surge tied the series at 1. Melissa had a positive four-ball run in game 3, and got onto the 8 before a narrow miss at the bottom right. Her offense, however, did not match up well with the five-ball run by Lexi, who finished the game on a three-ball run-out with a tap-in on the 8. Lexi claimed the series 2-1, and will host a third round series.

Gillette Center, Swordpoint: Snowball v. Jake. The host takes a second series today against a club-mate, meeting in 10-ball with the silver cue. Swordpoint's Snowball did a lot of early offense in game 1, but she failed to pot the 10 off a deflection from the 3. Royal's Jake would take the 4 on a later turn, and then ripped a 5-10 combination to the top right to win, earning a 1-0 lead in the series. The Crowns' Jake had poorer attacking instincts on the 10 in game 2, scratching once and missing contact altogether on a later try. The Blades' Snowball had a bad shot right after Jake missed his trick play on the 10, but Snowball would grab the win on a tap-in after Jake's second error. Snowball's win tied the series at 1. Jake had some promising shots early in game 3, pacing the attack at first, but Snowball charged back late, making four of the last five balls with confidence to get the win and a 2-1 series win. Snowball will be the host in her third round series.

Ford Forum, Pronger: Precious v. Spice. Tenured captains clash in a series of Rotation, also using the silver cue. Pronger's Precious broke out on a six-ball run a few turns into game 1, establishing her offense quickly. Victoria's Spice fought back for awhile, nearly tying the game before Precious could close her 8-6 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Tridents' Precious had two balls on the break in game 2, and added two more double-pots on a four-ball run-out to shut out the Spurs' Spice 8-0. Precious threw the cue into the mixer on the first double, draining the 6 to the bottom right and the 8 to the top right, and then converted a 4-15 combination to the bottom left with the carom sinking the 14 at the bottom right. Precious looked fantastic in clinching the series at 2-0. Spice went off early in game 3 with a double-pot of the 1 to the top side and the 13-2 combination on a carom to the top right. Spice then ended with a double-pot, sending the 4 and 12 to the bottom right to earn an 8-2 win. Precious still won the series 2-1, and will visit the Everton Eagles' Kirstin in the third round.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Kiwi v. Sally. The final series of the day is in Accuracy with the silver cue. Terrace City's Kiwi made a ball on a rather weak break in game 1, but also was the first to miss a shot. Archtown's Sally looked close to dropping into a tie, but actually got her Hail Mary shot to be a double-pot, and she stayed perfect in the 0-2 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Arrows' Sally had some luck show up again in game 2, but it faded away at the end, causing overtime. The Knights' Kiwi had pinned Sally with the overtime break, and Sally went empty. Kiwi made a shot as needed to win 3-4, tying the series at 1 to set up the decisive finale. Sally had the early lead in game 3 again, but tried to use luck a few too many times. Sally fell apart with the game tied, and Kiwi eventually took the 3-5 win to secure the series at 2-1. It will be Kiwi visiting the Freedom Cascades' Nikolai in the third round.

That'll be all we've got today. We'll see more Tournament play tomorrow, with some game 3s to follow in Hutton Cup action in the afternoon.

Hutton Cup - First Round, Game 2

We're back on Sunday to wrap up the first home stints for each Premier team in the Hutton Cup. First up...

HP Field, Midland: The last series to play game 1 is the first to see game 2, with the Hummingbirds sitting their captain Princess and the Predators benching Leonardo after his bad game. Leandra had a decent start with 297 for Tysini, but she could have had more if not for a bad swing. Shawn ripped 939 for Midland to begin the game in positive form for the hosts. Charli managed 392 for the Hummingbirds, not enough to pull them ahead on the second attack. Rainmane faltered at 63 for the Predators, weakening their lead drastically at the midway mark. Brownie scraped Tysini ahead on a mild 280, which the hosts hope to cover on their next turn. Americus stayed strong with 681 for Midland, restoring their lead to a stronger position late in the game. Paps showed why he was benched for game 1, falling at a pathetic 63 as the Hummingbirds lost with 1032 here. Fuchsia showed off some slick hands in recording 510 for the Predators, capping their win at 2193. Midland leaves home ahead 2-0 in the series.

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades sit their captain Snowball in game 2 due to her home struggles, while the Defenders bench a slumping Stephanie. Bianca again came out with pace but slipped up at 239 as Southridge gets a poor start to the game. Dreamy came out with even more pace, helping her to poke Swordpoint ahead when a bad swing downed her at 276. Debby did better on the second attack with 534 for the Defenders, swatting them into a lead. Bandit answered with 544 for the Blades, edging them ahead again in a competitive first half of the game. Caitlin scooped 560 for Southridge, keeping the pressure on the hosts as the visitors see another good attack. Stealth couldn't keep up with 259 for Swordpoint, giving them a bit of work to do on the final players' turns. Hughbert got a bit unlucky on the final turn, ending at 234 when he accidentally knocked out his own wicket, for a Defenders final score of 1567. Jason N. couldn't make a rally, collapsing at 102 for the Blades to stick them with a loss at 1181. The series heads east tied at 1.

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores look to dig themselves out of a deficit with their captain Bear sitting out this game, while the Pirates bench Klaus for performance. Delila struck 238 for Atlantic at the start, a good pace going to waste with bad swings later in the turn. Twinkie III answered with a much more impressive 841 for Whitewater, giving them the initial lead. Isabella tried to play two balls at once and fell at 208 when one clipped the boundary. Marsell showed some quality in lining 756 for the Shores on the second attack, greatly extending their lead. Steven couldn't quite keep his turn going, ending at 184 as Atlantic comes up flat in today's game. Katharine gathered 427 for Whitewater this time, keeping their lead strong later in the game. Max went with 304 for the Pirates, far from enough to matter as they lose with 934 overall. Shaggy had an ugly finish with 133, but the Shores easily won with a total of 2157. The series heads to the east tied at 1.

Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots are showing a lot of confidence to rest Dusty in game 2, while the Cascades take a more aggressive approach by sitting Stinky for this match. Jasmine clubbed 546 to get Freedom off to a much better start than in game 1. Valencia got taken out on a deflection at 84 for Golden, putting them far behind early in the game. Roxy supplemented the Cascades offense on the second attack, hauling in another 536 to essentially double their offense. Strut accepted 693 for the Pilots after being offered an optional replay, a decision the visitors thought shouldn't have been allowed. They claim Strut should have been hit with a mandatory replay, but the referee disagreed. Nikolai made his response on the field, canceling out the last turn with 691 for Freedom. Sparkles collapsed at 69 for Golden, nearly assuring them of a loss. Stripes swung 645 for the Cascades at the end, capping their offense at 2418 in a nearly-guaranteed win. A. Charlton answered with 375 for the Pilots, sticking them at a loss with 1221. Freedom's big win gets them back in the series, which is tied at 1.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors go without Wings in this game due to rest, while the Torpedoes are sitting Solaris after a lackluster team effort in game 1. Smudge looked a lot better with 536 for Infinity to open the scoring in this game in good form. Twilight kept things close with 481 for Central, although they will have to make a push at some point. Fluffina maintained a pacey attack long enough to record 713 for the Torpedoes in a large extension of their lead. Dustin countered with 821 for the Warriors, enough to edge them ahead at the midway point of an exciting game. Shelley slipped at 39 for Infinity in her playoff debut, causing them to become very vulnerable. Mario took advantage of the weakness with 539 for Central, staying in good form again. Mr. Snowman went with 487 for the Torpedoes, giving them a total of 1775, which is better than before but still a loss. Noelle tapped 177 to ice the Warriors win at 2018. Central leads the series 2-0, having taken care of business at home.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers sit Goatee after a poor effort in game 1, while the Sharpshooters do the same for their rookie Pauline as they try to take a commanding series lead. Chris ripped 720 for Capital City to lead off the scoring, setting the tone immediately. Misty answered with 551 for Westside, both captains doing well at the start of the game. Missy tried to play well on a cluttered pitch, but dropped at 175 as the Sharpshooters become vulnerable. Slinks couldn't capitalize for the Rockers, making things worse with her paltry 64 at the midway mark. Sprinkles fired back with 692 for Capital City, restoring strength in their lead with the firm attack. Midnight had a good turn with 608 for Westside, but they continue to lose ground. Lorde faltered a bit at 231 for the Sharpshooters, giving them a total of 1818. Cowzart had an impressive rally with 543 for the Rockers, but this left them just short at 1766. Capital City heads home with a 2-0 series lead in their pocket.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts are looking to double their lead in game 2, sitting Ice Cream for rest, while the Prestige have Katelynn on the bench for performance reasons. Acorn couldn't corral a deflection, ending at a meager 99 for Lighton to start the game. Patches made a savvy backhand touch and triple-clear before falling on the next ball at 759 to stake out a huge lead for Boston. Spirit fired back with 346 for the Prestige, just about halving the deficit on the second attack. Puff II countered with 578 for the Swifts, adding nicely to their lead at the halfway mark. Nicole picked up 320 for Lighton this time, with the visitors lagging behind dramatically again. Gradley maintained a fantastic pace and blasted 780 for Boston on the turn, likely securing the victory. Waluigi managed 322 for the Prestige, leaving them at 1087 in another brutal loss. Sweetheart didn't do much with 245 for the Swifts, icing their win at 2362. Boston has cruised to a 2-0 series lead, ready to leave home for the next one.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles had a rude awakening in losing game 1, and they'll sit Blizzard while the Crowns go with their first-choice lineup as Cassie sits out game 2. Kayla went at a good pace at first, but two challenges on her backhand downed her at 313 for Royal. Goldy made up for a poor first game with 514 to put Everton noticeably ahead at the start in this one. Jake floated a ball too high for the Crowns, dropping at 177 as they can't cover the deficit here. Puff III added on with 441 for the Eagles, extending their lead halfway through the game. Jeremias made a good attempt for Royal, but he crashed at 351, unable to make progress against the deficit. Cleo didn't start so well for Everton, but still finished her turn at 544 to make another addition to their lead. Nightfur tried to make a rally alone, ending at 429 as the Crowns lose with a total of 1270. Kirstin matched that with 429 for the Eagles, finishing their win at 1928. Everton has tied the series at one before a trip south for the next two games.

That's all for the first two games in each series. We'll return tomorrow with at least some of the Game 3s, which will be covered live on Twitter @UnitedPCL.

Hutton Cup - First Round, Game 1

A spot of time has opened up, so we'll put in Hutton Cup games likely twice over the weekend. We begin with...

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts lead off the Hutton Cup with Sweetheart on the bench, while the visiting Prestige will have Waluigi on the bench in game 1. Acorn led off at a solid pace, but his turn didn't last all that long with 346 for Lighton to get things going.
