A new day of pool is ready to go, beginning with...
Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Hoot v. Caitlin. The blue cue starts today with 10-ball. Viewpoint Sound's Hoot couldn't quite figure out his attack in game 1, allowing Southridge's Caitlin to control the pace of play. Caitlin would win on a late pair for the 1-0 series lead. The Defenders' Caitlin outright dominated in game 2. She had a five-ball run end with a scratch, but the Meteors' Hoot missed his ball-in-hand play on the 7. Caitlin then worked a four-ball run-out to clinch the series at 2-0. Hoot finally found his offense in game 3, but it turned shaky at the end. His poor finishing allowed Caitlin to snag the win anyway, and she swept the series 3-0 to earn another trip to this venue to take on Hoot's Meteors teammate Dani in the bracket quarterfinals.
Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Gradley v. Chicky Phil. The red cue gets the second series, playing Accuracy. Boston's Gradley went empty on the break in game 1 but turned in a perfect game, while Web City's Chicky Phil never really challenged. Gradley's 0-3 win gave him a 1-0 series lead. The Swifts' Gradley scratched to start game 2, but it didn't negatively affect his play, as the Spiders' Chicky Phil fell apart at the end. Gradley held on to win 2-5 this time, securing the series at 2-0 in the process. Gradley didn't push as hard in game 3, keeping things clean early but letting it go at the end as Chicky Phil got the 1-2 win. Gradley won the series 2-1 and will visit Capital City Sharpshooters captain Chris in the bracket quarterfinals. Gradley got his first kill of the year, and Chicky Phil is the 30th player out of the Tournament.
Cisco Arena, Tysini: Paps v. Hughbert. Southwestern rivals clash in 7-ball with the blue cue. Tysini's Paps had an unusually successful win in game 1, taking the 7 on the break that seemed to rattle the ball to the bottom right. Regardless of method, Paps leads Infinity's Hughbert 1-0 in the series. The Hummingbirds' Paps had a three-ball run from the break in game 2. The Torpedoes' Hughbert answered with a pair but missed contact on the 5 near the top side. Paps answered with the final pair of shots for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Paps made quick work of game 3 as well, sending the 2 to the top right, the 5 to the bottom right, and the 7 to the top side on the break for the win. Paps swept the series 3-0 and will host Vladimir of the Stonebridge Wolves in the bracket quarterfinals. Paps won the do-or-die scenario for his first kill, which made Hughbert the 31st eliminated player this year.
HP Field Events Center, Midland: Shawn v. Rainmane. Midland Predators teammates are set to meet in 13-ball with the red cue. Shawn started and ended game 1 with a three-ball run, helping to cover up the cagey battle between him and Rainmane in between. Shawn leads the series 1-0. Shawn had good positioning in game 2, but he let it go to waste by the end, missing at the top right multiple times. Rainmane roared back to take the win on a five-ball run-out, which tied the series at 1. Rainmane made one of each on the break in game 3 and elected to play solids. She scratched later, and Shawn wove a three-ball run-out soon after that to get the win and 2-1 series win. Shawn will host Shadow of the Diamond Gems in the bracket quarterfinals. The moment of friendly fire gave Shawn his first kill while Rainmane became the 32nd ousted player this year.
IBM Cathedral, North Modernistic: Gal v. Shelley. The blue cue takes its turn in Accuracy. North Modernistic's Gal had a hideous break in game 1, and it would come back to bite her with late misses from the cluster. Infinity's Shelley stayed on course to pick up a 2-4 win for the 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Gal again fell behind quickly in game 2, but the Torpedoes' Shelley failed to hold the lead this time. A scratch and two misses ruined Shelley's performance as Gal forced her way to a 2-3 win to tie the series at 1. Gal did well again in game 3, battling evenly with Shelley for most of it until Shelley unraveled late. Gal won 2-4 and took the series 2-1, meaning she'll host Sugar of the Swordpoint Blades in the bracket quarterfinals.
Nissan Hall, Infinity: Mr. Snowman v. Mitchell. Another Southwestern derby takes place in 9-ball with the silver cue. Infinity's Mr. Snowman had an inspired start to game 1, but he couldn't support it later. Victoria's Mitchell took care of business on a five-ball run-out for the win to earn a 1-0 series lead. The Spurs' Mitchell picked off a pair from the break in game 2. The Torpedoes' Mr. Snowman missed a kick attempt on the 2, and Mitchell made another pair, ending with the 3-9 combination to the bottom right for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Mr. Snowman finally got his win in game 3, a back-and-forth battle that saw Mitchell just miss a bank on the 7 near the end. Mitchell settled for a 2-1 series win to put him in the bracket quarterfinals.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Valencia v. Citrus. Sparky players collide in 12-ball with the red cue. Golden's Valencia made a pair on the break and was down to her last ball on her second turn of game 1. She scratched twice, and Lighton's Citrus gave away a wild-card ball, but Citrus rallied with an impressive three-ball run-out for the win to earn the 1-0 series lead. The Prestige's Citrus did not slow down a bit in game 3, shutting out the Pilots' Valencia in only three turns to seal the series at 2-0. Citrus gave away a wild-card ball on the break in game 3, and Valencia used the advantage well. She scrapped for positioning at first, but frustrated Citrus long enough to swipe the win to avoid the sweep. Citrus moves on with a 2-1 series win, and she'll be on the road at the Oceanside Waves' Jason V. in the bracket quarterfinals.
Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Puff II v. Mams. The blue cue is back for Rotation. The two players locked horns for a bit at the start of game 1, but Southern's Mams then overpowered Boston's Puff II. At the end, Mams took her 1-0 series lead with an 8-1 win that featured a late double-pot and some determination on her final attack. The Swifts' Puff II pulled ahead in the middle of game 2, but she had quite a battle with the Monarchs' Mams this time. Puff II got the win in the end by an 8-6 score, tying the series at 1. Puff II provided a drastic change of pace by opening game 3 on a four-ball run. Mams answered with a three-ball run, but Puff II slammed the door at 8-3 on a four-ball run-out on her second turn. Puff II won the series 2-1 and will play in the bracket quarterfinals.
Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Marsell v. Dani. The blue cue stays in action for some 7-ball. Whitewater's Marsell got the better of Viewpoint Sound's Dani at the end of a tough game 1. Marsell converted a three-ball run-out for the win that put him ahead 1-0 in the series. The Shores' Marsell scuffed a couple of shots in game 2, and his frustration with that led to him rattling the 7 out of the bottom left. The Meteors' Dani responded well by tapping it in for the win to tie the series at 1. Marsell settled down for game 3, but Dani had the better of offense with a four-ball run. She couldn't convert the 6, however, and Marsell made the final pair for the win and 2-1 series win. Marsell will host again in the bracket quarterfinals.
Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Sydney S. v. Blizzard. Another 7-ball series features Harrison Specters teammates with the red cue. Sydney S. executed a six-ball run from the break, but left the 7 short of the top right. Blizzard knocked it right in, poaching a 1-0 series lead with that win. Game 2 did not go as smoothly for either player. Blizzard couldn't get control of her shots, leaving the 7 for Sydney S. to tap in for the win that tied the series at 1. Blizzard again failed to get much offense in game 3, not that Sydney S. was a lot better. Sydney S. did convert at the end, banking the 7 to the bottom right to take the series 2-1. She's set to host the Pacific Volcanoes' Leonette in the bracket quarterfinals.
Chevrolet Center, Everton: Puff III v. Hannah. The silver cue cycles in for 15-ball. Both players had some struggles on offense to start game 1. By the end, it was still choppy, but Queens' Hannah earned the win with a pair after Everton's Puff III couldn't extend a three-ball run. Hannah leads the series 1-0. The Eagles' Puff III again struggled with consistent shooting quality. She missed contact on a kick attempt at the 7. This led to the Flames' Hannah making that ball at the top side and poking an 8-15 combination through traffic to the top right for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Hannah and Puff III both made three-ball runs early in game 3. Puff III had the better of play from there, taking the win to avoid the sweep. Hannah's 2-1 series win sees her travel to Diamond to face the Gems' Shadow in the bracket quarterfinals.
Kraft Forum, Royal: Kayla v. Sparkles. The silver cue goes again in 8-ball. Golden's Sparkles had an impressive four-ball run early in game 1, but Royal's Kayla chipped away with smaller attacks. Kayla would get the win on a three-ball run-out at the end to pull ahead 1-0 in the series. The Crowns' Kayla continued to attack in short bursts in game 2. The Pilots' Sparkles tried a deep comeback run but only made Kayla's last ball for her, and Kayla banked the 8 to the bottom side for the win. Kayla's win secured the series for her at 2-0. Sparkles avoided the sweep with a fiery attack in game 3, winning in just three turns as Kayla struggled to find any offense at all. Kayla took the series 2-1 and will visit the Stonebridge Wolves' Vladimir in the bracket quarterfinals.
Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Taylor S. v. Sleepy B. The silver cue continues in 7-ball. Commerce's Taylor S. had an engaging start to game 1, but she couldn't replicate it at the end. Archtown's Sleepy B. picked up the 7 after Taylor S. scratched, giving the visitor a 1-0 series lead. The Arrows' Sleepy B. started with a four-ball run in game 2, but she couldn't get the 4 to drop. The Tradewinds' Taylor S. picked up a pair, missing her shot on the 5 but accidentally banking the 7 to the top side for the win to tie the series at 1. Game 3 was about as balanced as it gets, with Sleepy B. narrowly missing the 7 at the top left and Taylor S. tapping it in to win the series 2-1. Taylor S. will host again in the bracket quarterfinals after this tough series. Taylor S. took her second kill of the year to make Sleepy B. the 33rd player out of the Tournament.
IBM Cathedral, North Modernistic: Cheddar v. Shawn. The visitor's second series today is in 10-ball with the red cue. Midland's Shawn didn't get much going for himself in game 1, but North Modernistic's Cheddar clamped down with a 4-5 combination and a 4-10 combination to the bottom right for the win. Cheddar leads the series 1-0. The Nighthawks' Cheddar needed only two shots in game 2, making the 7 on the break and the 1-10 combination to the top right immediately after. Cheddar's quick win silenced the Predators' Shawn and gave the host a 2-0 series lead. Cheddar didn't take game 3 too seriously, trying and failing multiple trick attempts. Shawn tapped the 10 to the bottom left after Cheddar's bank rattled out of the same spot. Cheddar won the series 2-1 and will host again in the bracket quarterfinals.
Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Lexi v. Avril. The silver cue administers 7-ball in a Halloween Derby match. Harrison's Lexi opened on a four-ball run before a scratch. She was bailed out by Web City's Avril scratching on her lone shot. Lexi made the final pair for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Spiders' Avril posted a four-ball run in game 2, making quite the impact after a slow start. Avril missed the 5-7 combination to the top left, and the Specters' Lexi took over for a pair of shots for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Lexi did a strong job of closing the series, taking her time as Avril tried to attack in game 3. Lexi then ripped a five-ball run-out for the 3-0 series sweep that puts her into the bracket quarterfinals.
Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Princess v. Valencia. The day ends with star players meeting in 13-ball with the blue cue. Viewpoint Sound's Princess did a lot of good work early, but she missed contact at tap-in range on the 10 to the top side. Golden's Valencia used the ensuing ball-in-hand to make a four-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 lead in the series. The Pilots' Valencia used a similar strategy in game 2, waiting to force the Meteors' Princess into an error. Princess made illegal contact and Valencia again made a four-ball run-out for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Princess had a good time in game 3, outpacing Valencia to get a win. Valencia settled for a 2-1 series win to put herself into the bracket quarterfinals.
We'll be back tomorrow for a similar schedule of action.
