Tournament 2019 - Round 3 Day 9

We're set for an odd day that should see three sessions played. First up is...

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Graham v. Caitlin. The red cue opens the day in 8-ball this time. Eastside's Graham made three stripes on the break and added another three-ball run later, but Southridge's Caitlin struck back with a five-ball run and a three-ball run-out for the win. Caitlin leads the series 1-0. The Defenders' Caitlin had a ball on the break in game 2, but the Sharks' Graham played steady after that. Caitlin attempted another comeback with a seven-ball run that ended as she scratched on the 8 to gift the win away. Graham's good fortune was enough to tie the series at 1. Graham had a five-ball run to get onto the 8 after a sloppy start to game 3, but he couldn't convert. Both before and after that attack, Caitlin posted four-ball runs, the latter giving her the win and 2-1 series win. Caitlin will visit the Pearl Surfers' Watermelon in the bracket quarterfinals. Caitlin recorded her first kill of the year to make Graham the 23rd player out of the Tournament.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Debby v. Jake. A venue doubleheader opens up with the Castle Derby in 8-ball with the blue cue. Royal's Jake began with a five-ball run in game 1, but he turned cold after that. Southridge's Debby played herself into position to win with a four-ball run-out for the 1-0 series lead. Game 2 saw a slower pace for both players. The Defenders' Debby made a mess of her late positioning, allowing the Crowns' Jake to eventually assemble a four-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Jake went empty on the game 3 break, but it was a successful bait play. Debby took a three-ball run in solids, and Jake answered with an eight-ball run-out in stripes on his second turn. Jake won the series 2-1 and he'll visit Chimpy of the Westside Rockers in the bracket quarterfinals. Jake got his first kill of the season, as Debby is the 24th player to finish competing.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Stephanie v. Sage. The venue doubleheader ends in Accuracy with the blue cue. Southridge's Stephanie scratched on the break, but it was her poor late play that led to Victoria's Sage earning the 2-4 win in game 1. Sage holds a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 saw a dramatic increase in quality and intensity on both sides. The Defenders' Stephanie prevailed with brilliant defensive positioning with three balls left, inducing the Spurs' Sage to scratch. Stephanie would win 0-2 to tie the series at 1. Stephanie remained perfect in game 3, refusing to miss as Sage furiously tried to stay in the battle. Stephanie won this one 0-3 to take the series 2-1, and she'll be the host again in her bracket quarterfinals appearance.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: Chicky Phil v. Acorn. The silver cue gets its first turn today in 9-ball. Game 1 was over in a blink, as Web City's Chicky Phil opened on a four-ball run but missed the 5. Lighton's Acorn then worked a five-ball run-out for the win to grab a quick 1-0 series lead. The Spiders' Chicky Phil had a four-ball run with multiple edge cuts in game 2, but he missed a similar shot on the 9. He then missed a kick attempt on it at the top side, and the Prestige's Acorn took it on his second try for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Chicky Phil had a five-ball run on his first turn in game 3, but he later fumbled possession away, and Acorn picked up a crafty three-ball run-out for the win to sweep the series 3-0. Acorn will host Cheddar of the North Modernistic Nighthawks in the bracket quarterfinals.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Quincy v. Mr. Snowman. Quiet players meet in 12-ball with the silver cue. Terrace City's Quincy paced the attack early in game 1, but Infinity's Mr. Snowman defended the top side well. Mr. Snowman would pick off a three-ball run-out to make a comeback win for the 1-0 series lead. Both players gave up wild-card balls at the bottom left in game 2, but when the Torpedoes' Mr. Snowman did, it was on illegal contact. The Knights' Quincy took over with a four-ball run-out from ball-in-hand to take the win that tied the series at 1. Quincy made a solid on the break and added a three-ball run, but Mr. Snowman's opening five-ball run and strong positioning for the final ball was too much. Mr. Snowman got the win for a 2-1 series win that sends him to Pearl to meet the Surfers' Watermelon in the bracket quarterfinals. The reigning MVP Quincy is out at 25th, giving Mr. Snowman his first kill.

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Princess v. Spirit. Big names meet in 9-ball with the blue cue. Viewpoint Sound's Princess knocked in a pair and a four-ball run in game 1, but her miss on the 9 allowed Lighton's Spirit to bank it to the top right for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Prestige's Spirit was plagued by near-misses in game 2, including one on the 9 at the top left at the end. The Meteors' Princess made a 2-3-6 kick combination, a 2-3 combination and cleaned up the 9 at the top left to get the win, which evened the series at 1. Princess refused to go quietly in game 3, attacking recklessly at first. Spirit couldn't quite lock on at the end, missing the 9 on a rattle again at the top right. Princess cut it in to win the series 2-1, setting her up to visit her former teammate, the Tysini Hummingbirds' Leandra, in the bracket quarterfinals. Spirit is the 26th player out of action, giving Princess her first kill of the year.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: Avril v. Sydney S. Celebrity club-mates meet in 12-ball with the blue cue. Web City's Avril gave away a wild-card ball on the break in game 1, but Harrison's Sydney S. also gave one away on missed contact later in the game. On level terms, Avril had an easier route to the win, which put her ahead 1-0 in the series. In game 2, both players had one ball on their first turns and a four-ball run on the second turns. The Specters' Sydney S. just missed her mark on a bank of the 14 toward the bottom left, and the Spiders' Avril tapped in her last ball for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Avril didn't get anything on the game 3 break, leading to a four-ball run from Sydney S., which ended in a scratch. Sydney S. bounced back two turns later with a three-ball run-out for her lone win. Avril took the series 2-1 and will host Midnight of the Westside Rockers in the bracket quarterfinals.

Ford Forum, Pronger: Precious v. Katharine. More 12-ball follows with the silver cue in hand. Pronger's Precious took solids on the break in game 1, but Whitewater's Katharine made a four-ball run on her first turn. Katharine finished off a patient effort later, picking up the easy win for a 1-0 series lead. The Shores' Katharine was in great position near the end of game 2, but the Tridents' Precious locked up enough of the table defensively to work the counterattack for a win. Precious tied the series at 1. Precious gave up a wild-card ball on the game 3 break, but worked a three-ball run for herself. Katharine came close to catching up, but a missed contact ruined her game, and Precious grabbed the win to take the series 2-1. Precious will host Pacific Volcanoes captain Starlight in the bracket quarterfinals. This was Precious' 100th unique opponent.

T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Yekaterina v. Jack. The silver cue goes again in 10-ball. Victoria's Yekaterina made a couple of early pairs of shots, but Web City's Jack turned things around with a six-ball run-out for the win. Jack staked out a 1-0 series lead with the effort. The Spiders' Jack showed less shot consistency in game 2, causing his offense to drop off a bit. The Spurs' Yekaterina didn't fully fill that void, but she did enough to pick up the win to tie the series at 1. Jack seemed prepared for a deep run in game 3, but he missed on the 6. This gave Yekaterina a free look at a four-ball run-out, and she converted for the win to seal the series at 2-1. Yekaterina will host Queens Flames captain Crystal in the bracket quarterfinals.

Cisco Arena, Tysini: Leandra v. Gizmo. The red cue cycles in for 12-ball here. Eastside's Gizmo had a chance to win a tight game 1 battle, but he missed contact on his final ball. Tysini's Leandra worked a three-ball run-out from ball-in-hand to earn the win, going up 1-0 in the series. The Hummingbirds' Leandra turned a pair on the break into a four-ball run at the start of game 2. The Sharks' Gizmo never saw good positioning this time, and Leandra was able to play patiently until she made a pair for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. In game 3, Gizmo appeared to have the jump on offense. He lacked positioning even after Leandra's scratch, which she turned into a three-ball run-out with a pair of late banks on the next turn. Leandra swept the series 3-0 and will host her bracket quarterfinals series.

HP Field Events Center, Midland: Americus v. Jake. Southeastern rivals clash in Accuracy with the red cue. Royal's Jake didn't start so well in game 1, but he finished much better than Midland's Americus, who plummeted badly. Jake was able to hang on for the 5-7 win to take a 1-0 series lead after the ugly opener. The Crowns' Jake was still pretty good in game 2, but a couple of misses was all the leeway the Predators' Americus needed to snag a 1-3 win. This tied the series at 1. Americus had chances to put game 3 away in regulation but couldn't do it. Jake struck on the overtime break and held control throughout, and Americus missed on her fourth shot. Jake's 3-4 win gave him the series at 2-1, and he'll host Niki of the Commerce Tradewinds in the bracket quarterfinals.

Nissan Hall, Infinity: Smudge v. Potter. The red cue stays in action in 10-ball. Pronger's Potter posted a four-ball run early in game 1, and then added a pair at the end after Infinity's Smudge missed a bank on the 8. Potter's strong play was enough to put him ahead 1-0 in the series initially. The Torpedoes' Smudge appeared to be in danger when the Tridents' Potter opened game 2 with a four-ball run. Potter would pick up one more ball, but Smudge answered with a four-ball run-out for the win, tying the series at 1. Smudge was on fire with a five-ball run to open game 3, but her best play was letter Potter keep possession after he illegally potted the 6. He made the 7 but missed the 9, and Smudge converted a bank on the 9 to the top right that left her lined up on the 10 for the win. Smudge won the series 2-1 and will take on a fellow Southwestern captain and club-mate in the Swordpoint Blades' Snowball in the bracket quarterfinals. Smudge earned her first kill to make Potter the 27th player eliminated this year.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Melissa v. Patches. The silver cue is back for this 7-ball set. Terrace City's Melissa had a four-ball run from the break in game 1. Boston's Patches picked off a pair after that, but missed the 7, which Melissa downed at the bottom left for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Knights' Melissa worked well off the break again in game 2, but it was both players missing on the 6 that defined the game. The Swifts' Patches took it on her second try and tapped the 7 to the bottom side for the win to tie the series at 1. Game 3 turned into more of a back-and-forth battle, with Melissa coming up with a three-ball run-out at the end for the win. Melissa's 2-1 series win sets her up to host a series in the bracket quarterfinals. Melissa picked up her second kill of the year while Patches is the 28th player to exit competitive play.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Goatee v. Violetta. The red cue's last series today is in Accuracy. Queens' Violetta set the tone in game 1 when her desperate early shot turned into a double-pot, and Westside's Goatee missed on the next shot. Violetta went on to win 1-3 for the 1-0 series lead. The Flames' Violetta wasn't able to sustain that pace in game 2, falling apart at first. She stabilized, but fell behind the Rockers' Goatee once again near the end as Goatee held on for a 4-5 win to tie the series at 1. In game 3, Violetta had a lead for awhile but took a miss. Goatee stole last-shot advantage with a double-pot and got Violetta to scratch late in the game. Violetta then missed on the overtime break, and Goatee converted to win the game 2-3 and the series 2-1. Goatee will host the Pacific Volcanoes' Leonette in the bracket quarterfinals.

Nestle's Warriors Hall, Central: Dustin v. Lexi. Northeastern rivals prepare for a bitter 15-ball battle with the silver cue. Both players had a certain reckless nature to game 1, but Central's Dustin paid for his when he scratched on the 14. Harrison's Lexi made the 15 from ball-in-hand for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Specters' Lexi lacked offense early in game 2, but she also took an error to flip possession to the Warriors' Dustin. A dramatic late fall by the 4 kept Dustin in possession for a 5-15 combination to the top right for the win, which tied the series at 1 on his three-ball run-out. Dustin had a large majority of the offense in game 3, but it didn't count for anything when he left the 6 and 15 a little too close. Lexi deflected a shot to bump the 15 to the bottom right for the win and 2-1 series win, which sets her up to host Todavía Stills captain Easter in the bracket quarterfinals. That's Lexi's first kill of the year, and Dustin is the 29th player eliminated from Tournament action.

Apple Center, Todavía: Bells v. Gradley. The day's finale is in 9-ball with the blue cue. Boston's Gradley tried a 2-9 combination to the top right after Todavía's Bells scratched early in game 1. It didn't work, but Gradley did make a 4-9 combination in the same spot later, capping a three-ball run-out for the 1-0 series lead. The Swifts' Gradley came tantalizingly close to making the 9 on the break, but the 3 bumped it out of the way. Neither player showed a desire to play real pool, as the Stills' Bells tried a deflection off the 1 to hit the 2 that didn't land. Gradley's next shot was a 1-9 combination to the bottom right for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Game 3 was a little slower to take, but Gradley made the last five balls over two turns to get the win and 3-0 sweep on Bells. Gradley will visit Southern Monarchs captain Panda in the bracket quarterfinals.

Tomorrow, the third round continues at a more regular time.
