Tournament 2019 - Round 3 Day 13

The last full day of the third round will actually be played as a Friday/Saturday split-session. We begin with...

Intel Center, Diamond: Katelynn v. Peach. A minor rivalry in Rotation with the silver cue starts the day. North Modernistic's Peach had her way in game 1, cruising to an 8-2 win over the Diamond's Katelynn, as the host had a lot of errors. Peach leads the series 1-0 after a dominant opener. The Nighthawks' Peach scratched on the break in game 2 and never really got on track after that. The Gems' Katelynn enjoyed a surge of offense and earned the 8-4 win to tie the series at 1 game apiece. Katelynn scratched on the break in game 3 and couldn't catch Peach, who was steady in her attack. Peach went on to win the game 8-5 and the series 2-1, setting her up to return home to face Dreamy of the Swordpoint Blades in the bracket quarterfinals.

Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Twinkie I v. Fluffina. The red cue gets a look at 7-ball. Pacific's Twinkie I made a three-ball run to start game 1, but she couldn't bring it home. Infinity's Fluffina answered at the end to knock the 7 down at the bottom right for the 1-0 series lead. The roles reversed a bit in game 2, with the Torpedoes' Fluffina making a late three-ball run only to miss the 7 at the bottom right. The Volcanoes' Twinkie I won on a tap-in to tie the series at 1. Fluffina wouldn't be denied twice, attacking with a four-ball run-out in game 3 to beat Twinkie I 2-1 in the series. Fluffina will host Americus of the Midland Predators in the bracket quarterfinals. With Twinkie I's exit from the Tournament, a quarter of all players (45/180) are out; Fluffina earned her first kill.

McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Steven v. Bandit. The silver cue is back for some 10-ball. Atlantic's Steven did alright at first in game 1, but Swordpoint's Bandit was better at the end, chipping his way to a win with a number of small attacks. Bandit leads the series 1-0. The Blades' Bandit added a four-ball run to start game 2, but his late play was lacking. He fouled for illegal contact, and the Pirates' Steven rallied with a three-ball run-out to snag the win that tied the series at 1. Bandit got pushed around a bit in game 3, as Steven baited the visitor into an illegal shot. Steven made use of the advantage there, deflecting off the 5 to send the 10 to the top right for the win. Steven won the series 2-1 and will head to Queens to face the Flames' Briana in the bracket quarterfinals. Steven stayed on the league lead with three kills, and Bandit is the 46th player to make his exit.

Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Valencia v. Sprinkles. The silver cue stays on as friends collide in 9-ball. Golden's Valencia had a little more possession and success than Capital City's Sprinkles in a close game 1 that saw Valencia stake out a 1-0 lead in the series. The Pilots' Valencia won game 2 quickly and in stunning fashion, dropping the 9 to the bottom right on the break to seal up a 2-0 series over the Sharpshooters' Sprinkles. In game 3, Sprinkles opened with a six-ball run and made another later, but she left the 9 up and Valencia drained it to the bottom right. Valencia swept the series 3-0 to earn the right to host Mitchell of the Victoria Spurs in the bracket quarterfinals.

Kraft Forum, Royal: Brownie v. Shawn. The blue cue draws in for 7-ball. Midland's Shawn converted a three-ball run-out to close game 1 after a mixed start saw Royal's Brownie do slightly better. Shawn's heavy finish put him ahead 1-0 in the series early on. Game 2 was more back-and-forth between the two players. In the end, the Predators' Shawn was able to put down the 7 on his first try after the Crowns' Brownie failed. Shawn clinched the series at 2-0 with this win. Brownie had much more offense in game 3, working a three-ball run at the start and then taking the 7 when Shawn missed it at the top side. Shawn still won the series 2-1, and he'll continue his travels to Whitewater to face the Shores' Marsell in the bracket quarterfinals.

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Frosty v. Taylor M. The red cue returns in 8-ball. Despite an early scratch in game 1, Viewpoint Sound's Frosty still dictated pace and beat Eastside's Taylor M. with a four-ball run-out. Frosty owns a 1-0 series lead. The Sharks' Taylor M. stepped up her play in game 2, with a late three-ball run getting her onto the 8. The Meteors' Frosty nearly came back with a four-ball run that left the 8 on the edge of the top left, where Taylor M. tapped it in for the win to tie the series at 1. In game 3, Taylor M. made one of each on the break. She chose stripes, but solids ended up working better for Frosty, who got the win and the 2-1 series win as well. Frosty is set to host Midland Predators captain Shawn in the bracket quarterfinals. Taylor M. is the 47th player and second rookie to exit the Tournament, and Frosty picked up her first kill.

Cisco Arena, Tysini: Charli v. Spot. Underrated players meet in 10-ball with the silver cue. After a sluggish start in game 1, Tysini's Charli found her groove at the right time, using a three-ball run-out to take a 1-0 series lead over Pronger's Spot. The Tridents' Spot took a much more significant share of the offense in game 2, attacking with little bursts throughout. The Hummingbirds' Charli tried to keep up, but she missed contact on the 9 and Spot made a final pair for the win to tie the series at 1. Spot scratched after making a pair on the break, and Charli took a four-ball run. Spot then went empty on his next turn but made a pair after Charli couldn't corral the 9. Spot won the series 2-1 and will host Bells of the Todavía Stills in the bracket quarterfinals.

Google Hall, Modernistic: Ms. Puppy v. Prism. The blue cue is set to play 12-ball in this series. Modernistic's Ms. Puppy took a pair of solids on the break in game 1 and worked good positioning after that. Todavía's Prism tried to keep up but fell just short, as Ms. Puppy got the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Stills' Prism seemed to have much more offense early in game 2, but the Union's Ms. Puppy didn't falter. Ms. Puppy carved out a three-ball run to catch up and made a pair on the next turn for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Ms. Puppy scratched on the break in game 3, allowing Prism to slowly pick off the sides. Ms. Puppy then pushed with a five-ball run that ended with intentional illegal contact. Prism couldn't make a counterattack, and Ms. Puppy made her last ball for the 3-0 series sweep. Ms. Puppy will visit Freedom Cascades strongman Nikolai in the bracket quarterfinals.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Kiwi v. Cheddar. Urban rivals clash in a tense 7-ball series with the silver cue. Terrace City's Kiwi went empty on the break in game 1, and that proved costly, as North Modernistic's Cheddar ran the table on her only turn. Cheddar's surge gave her a 1-0 lead in the series. The Nighthawks' Cheddar made a few questionable shot selection choices in game 2, which ended up allowing the Knights' Kiwi to dictate the game. Kiwi got the win and tied the series at 1. Kiwi scratched on the game 3 break, and Cheddar fired off a four-ball run before leaving the 7 wide of the top right. Kiwi buried it for the cheap win and 2-1 series win. Kiwi will host Commerce Tradewinds star Taylor S. in the bracket quarterfinals.

Kraft Forum, Royal: Nightfur v. Melissa. A captain and a sophomore clash in Rotation with the blue cue. Royal's Nightfur made a ball on the break, which Terrace City's Melissa answered to tie game 1 early. Nightfur then pulled away quickly, rallying for an 8-1 win on a huge run that gave the host a 1-0 series lead. The Knights' Melissa put up a strong resistance in game 2, but a miss on the 10 cost her the game. The Crowns' Nightfur made a three-ball run-out from there, winning 8-6 to secure the series at 2-0. Nightfur had quite the battle on her hands in game 3, but she wasn't able to keep herself in it at the end. Melissa locked up her lone win at 8-5 to cut Nightfur's series win to 2-1. Nightfur will host Central Warriors captain Twilight in the bracket quarterfinals.

Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Puff II v. Pedey. Back in 7-ball, the silver cue returns to action. Diamond's Pedey got most of the offense in game 1, but it came in choppy attacks. Boston's Puff II wasn't able to stop Pedey in the end, as the latter pulled ahead 1-0 in the series. The Swifts' Puff II did better with a three-ball run in game 2 as well, and she added the 6 later, but she missed the 7. The Gems' Pedey turned it in at the top left for the win, clinching the series at 2-0 despite a sloppier effort. Pedey went back to controlling the pace of game 3, making a four-ball run and adding the final pair later when Puff II couldn't gain any possession. Pedey's 3-0 series sweep will see him travel to Terrace City for a bracket quarterfinals series against the Knights' Melissa.

McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Isabella v. Spice. The blue cue cycles in for this series of Accuracy. Victoria's Spice was a little off on her shots, leaving plenty of tap-ins for Atlantic's Isabella. It was a lopsided 1-6 win for Isabella, who holds a 1-0 series lead initially. Game 2 was a little closer, but the Spurs' Spice will regret squandering an early lead with a plethora of late misses. The Pirates' Isabella shook off her slow start and got the 2-5 win to secure the series at 2-0. Spice held a lead again late in game 3, but a miss and a scratch put her behind just in time for Isabella to finish with the 3-4 win. Isabella swept the series 3-0 and will visit Stephanie of the Southridge Defenders in the bracket quarterfinals.

HP Field Events Center, Midland: Fuchsia v. Niki. Strong competitors meet in 12-ball with the red cue to lead off the short Saturday portion of the split. It wasn't all that pretty in game 1, but Commerce's Niki did enough in game 1 to get the win despite a three-ball run by Midland's Fuchsia near the end. Niki leads the series 1-0. The Tradewinds' Niki again got the better of the Predators' Fuchsia in game 2, but this time was a much closer battle. Niki had to position herself at the top left for the win and 2-0 series lead. Fuchsia received a wild-card ball in game 3, but scratched to put it back on the table. Niki capitalized on that mistake, beating Fuchsia to the top left for the win and earning a 3-0 series sweep in the process. Niki will head to Tysini to face the Hummingbirds captain Leandra in the bracket quarterfinals.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Pauline v. Sweetheart. The blue cue is set to play in 15-ball. Capital City's Pauline played well early in game 1, but she got sloppy at the end with scratches and missed contact. Boston's Sweetheart wasn't sharp, but she was good enough to clean up the 15 from ball-in-hand for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Sharpshooters' Pauline let her struggles from before pervade game 2, as she grew increasingly frustrated with rattled misses. The Swifts' Sweetheart stayed more level-headed and added a pair of three-ball runs at the end for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Pauline couldn't settle down in game 3, rattling more shots out than she made. Sweetheart eventually put Pauline out of her misery with an 8-15 combination for the win. Sweetheart's 3-0 series sweep puts her in the bracket quarterfinals at Victoria, facing the Spurs' Mitchell.

Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Vladimir v. Kirstin. The red cue's last series of the day is in 10-ball. Everton's Kirstin illegally sank the 5 on her first turn in game 1, but it didn't change the result. Stonebridge's Vladimir took possession, making the 1 and deflecting a shot to pot the 10 at the top right for the win and 1-0 advantage in the series. Game 2 took a little longer to get through, as the Wolves' Vladimir had an inconsistent attack. It was still better than the Eagles' Kirstin, who missed the 10 at short range to allow Vladimir to get the win for a 2-0 series lead. Kirstin finally got a game of her own, cashing in a three-ball run-out in game 3 after another disjointed effort from Vladimir, who won the series 2-1. Vladimir will host Modernistic Union captain Ms. Puppy in the bracket quarterfinals. Kirstin is the 48th player out of the Tournament, and the first to fall to Vladimir.

T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Mitchell v. Salmo. Closing the day, the silver cue plays 12-ball. Victoria's Mitchell started with a ball on the game 1 break, but Southern's Salmo answered with a three-ball run. Mitchell kept it close, and his top left defense held true until he could get the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Spurs' Mitchell made one of each on the game 2 break. The Monarchs' Salmo had an odd attack pattern, which Mitchell almost navigated in time before Salmo sank his last ball at the bottom left. This tied the series at 1. Salmo didn't have enough left in game 3 to get by Mitchell, who took the win after careful planning to take the series 2-1. Mitchell will visit Roxy of the Freedom Cascades in the bracket quarterfinals.

Tomorrow, a half-day will end round three.
