Tournament 2019 - Round 3 Day 11

We're back again for a day of games, beginning with...

Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Sally v. Puff III. Longtime Northeastern rivals open the day with 9-ball and the red cue. Everton's Puff III capitalized on a few mistakes from Archtown's Sally. At the end, Puff III double-kissed the 9 to the top right for the win and 1-0 series lead after game 1. The Eagles' Puff III had the majority of the offense in game 2, but her bank attempt on the 9 to the top side ended her late three-ball run. The Arrows' Sally struck the 9 to the bottom left for the win to tie the series at 1. Fortune continued to favor Sally in game 3, as she deflected a shot off the 5 to bump the 9 down at the bottom right for the win. Sally took the series 2-1 over Puff III, and she'll host Charli of the Tysini Hummingbirds in the bracket quarterfinals. Sally earned her first kill of the year to make Puff III the 34th eliminated player.

Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Strut v. Salmo. The red cue stays in action for 15-ball. Golden's Strut had a fair amount of offense in game 1, but the ending went back-and-forth. Southern's Salmo got the win, taking the 15 to the top right when Strut failed to. Salmo leads the series 1-0. The Monarchs' Salmo ended a slow start with a five-ball run, which the Pilots' Strut answered with a four-ball run. Strut also had a three-ball run later, but he missed the 15, and Salmo cut it to the top right this time to get the win to seal the series at 2-0. Salmo had a late four-ball run in a crisp game 3 effort, but he scratched trying to get positioning on the 15. Strut took the 15 to the top left from ball-in-hand, cutting Salmo's series win to 2-1. Salmo will be the host in his bracket quarterfinals appearance.

UPS Hall, Maplewood: Summer v. Goldy. The red cue goes again in this 13-ball series. Maplewood's Summer had a good start in game 1, making a ball on the break. It was her late defensive work that earned praise though, as she choked the positioning away from Everton's Goldy multiple times. Summer bought herself the time to pick up the win, going ahead 1-0 in the series. The Lumberjacks' Summer had another strong start in game 2, and she simply outpaced the Eagles' Goldy this time. Summer clinched the series at 2-0 with this win. Summer made a boneheaded play in game 3, forgetting where she had balls pocketed. Goldy did her job and got the win to avoid the sweep. Summer will host Atlantic Pirates' captain Delila in the bracket quarterfinals after this 2-1 series win. Summer got her first kill of the year, and Goldy is the 35th player to be eliminated so far.

Google Hall, Modernistic: Sydney C. v. Cubby. The blue cue steps in for a 7-ball series. Eastside's Cubby had a four-ball run that ended with a scratch in game 1. Modernistic's Sydney C. made a pair in response but left the 7 for Cubby to pot at the bottom left. Cubby leads the series 1-0. Game 2 saw both players fail to position themselves well, making things more difficult than they had to be. The Sharks' Cubby overcame one of those moments by banking the 7 to the top side for the win to seal the series at 2-0 over the Union's Sydney C. Cubby wasted no time in game 3, winning with the 5 and 7 dropping in the bottom corners on the break. Cubby swept the series 3-0 and will visit club-mate Jake of the Royal Crowns in the bracket quarterfinals.

Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Wild Thing v. Gradley. Tough competitors battle in 15-ball with the blue cue. Stonebridge's Wild Thing had some good fortune early in game 1, but his play dropped off later, and Boston's Gradley picked up a 10-15 combination to the top right for the win. Gradley holds a 1-0 series lead. A fast start to game 2 gave way to a tense finish when both players realized the stakes. The Swifts' Gradley will rue his miss on the 15, allowing the Wolves' Wild Thing to even the series at 1 with a long-range cut. Game 3 saw a return to form and a frantic finish, as Gradley's three-ball run ended with the 12 hanging on the edge of the bottom side. Wild Thing executed a three-ball run-out for the win and 2-1 series win. He'll host Atlantic Pirates captain Delila in the bracket quarterfinals.

Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Frosty v. Gabe. The silver cue is up for 7-ball. Viewpoint Sound's Frosty left a few shots on the table, but Maplewood's Gabe did nothing to convert them. Frosty was able to take the 7 at the bottom left for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Meteors' Frosty again was too sloppy in finishing her shots. This time, she paid for it when the Lumberjacks' Gabe potted a three-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Frosty silenced all doubts in game 3, executing a brilliant six-ball run-out capped by banking the 7 to the bottom side for the win. Frosty won the series 2-1 and will host again in the bracket quarterfinals.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Cleo v. Stealth. The red cue returns in this 9-ball battle. Everton's Cleo made three balls on the break and added two more over the course of the game, but she missed her cut on the 9. Swordpoint's Stealth cleaned it up at the bottom left for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Eagles' Cleo had a few more good plays in game 2, including a 3-5 bank-combination double-pot at the bottom right, but she missed the 8. The Blades' Stealth made the last two shots for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Cleo again couldn't solve her problems in game 3, leaving too many shots open for Stealth to make. Stealth got the win, sweeping the series 3-0 and earning a trip to Atlantic to face the Pirates' Steven in the bracket quarterfinals. This gave Stealth his first kill, and Cleo's exit as the 36th eliminated player means just 80 percent of the player pool remains.

Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Niki v. Jake. The silver cue cycles back in for 13-ball. Royal's Jake held the lead for much of game 1 and even received a freebie from Commerce's Niki at one point, but Niki would rally back for the win to earn a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 went very slowly for both players, with the Tradewinds' Niki faltering even more in the late part of the game. The Crowns' Jake showed resilience to get this win, which tied the series at 1. Jake looked doomed after taking a scratch with just one ball down. Niki had decent positioning, but Jake made sure she never got to execute, rallying on his seven-ball run-out for the win and 2-1 series win. Jake will host Boots of the Pearl Surfers in the bracket quarterfinals.

Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Twinkie III v. Kirstin. More 13-ball is on the way with the blue cue. Game 1 didn't move quickly, but Whitewater's Twinkie III did a little better with positioning than Everton's Kirstin. This paid off, as Twinkie III made a pair at the end for the win and 1-0 series lead. Game 2 was even slower as neither player could commit on their shots nor execute efficiently. The Shores' Twinkie III ended up with the win in the end, working a four-ball run-out after the Eagles' Kirstin scratched. This clinched the series at 2-0 for Twinkie III. In game 3, Twinkie III managed a four-ball run but didn't support it enough. Kirstin would rally back from there for the win to avoid the sweep in the 2-1 series. Twinkie III will host Urban rival Kodiak from the Modernistic Union in the bracket quarterfinals.

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Chelsea v. Wings. The red cue is back for this 12-ball series. Eastside's Chelsea had a strong attack in game 1 from the start, then played defense as Central's Wings tried to push back. At the end, Chelsea won on a three-ball run-out to take the 1-0 series lead. The Sharks' Chelsea scratched on the break in game 2 and still came within a ball of winning. The Warriors' Wings did well to hold defense at the top side until Chelsea missed contact on a kick. Wings then converted his last ball for the win to tie the series at 1. Wings did just enough in game 3 to hold off Chelsea, picking up the win and a 2-1 series win at the bottom left. Wings will visit Luigi of the North Modernistic Nighthawks in the bracket quarterfinals. Chelsea's likely career finale sees her as the 37th player out this year, while Wings took his first kill.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Boots v. Slinks. Veterans clash in Accuracy with the blue cue. Pearl's Boots played very well in game 1, but a scuffed shot halfway through the overtime rack turned the 2-3 win in favor of Westside's Slinks, who now leads the series 1-0. The Surfers' Boots made a ball on the break again in game 2, but a late collapse left her no time to get back into the game. The Rockers' Slinks held steady for the 3-4 win to clinch the series at 2-0. Slinks took game 3 off, making a mess of her play in the middle as Boots managed a 3-6 win to avoid the sweep. Slinks is set to visit Sarah of the Tysini Hummingbirds in the bracket quarterfinals.

T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Sage v. Katharine. The blue cue remains in action for Rotation. Whitewater's Katharine cashed in a pair early in game 1 and never looked back, as Victoria's Sage didn't string enough shots together. Katharine would win 8-3 to take the 1-0 series lead. The Shores' Katharine trailed for much of game 2, as the Spurs' Sage played solid defense initially. Katharine fired back with a five-ball run-out to make the comeback for an 8-5 win. This secured the series in her favor at 2-0. Katharine started with a three-ball run in game 3, but Sage fired back on a five-ball run and a three-ball run-out for the 8-3 win. Katharine will advance with a 2-1 series win and she'll visit Puff II of the Boston Swifts in the bracket quarterfinals. Sage is the 38th player ousted this year as Katharine earned her first kill.

Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Strut v. Sierra. The host's second series today is in 12-ball with the blue cue. Golden's Strut used better positioning from the start of game 1 to get the win, as TodavĂa's Sierra never had a good angle for her last two balls. Strut's strong play earned him the 1-0 series lead. The Pilots' Strut made two solids and a stripe on the game 2 break, but he couldn't bring this one home. The Stills' Sierra made the most of her advantage, picking up the win to tie the series at 1. Strut had an energetic start to game 3, but Sierra matched it with her four-ball run. Strut was careful and meticulous with positioning, and he made it work with a late pair for the win to win the series 2-1. Strut will host the Commerce Tradewinds' Taylor S. in the bracket quarterfinals. Sierra bows out 39th from the Tournament, and Strut took his first kill in the process.

Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Ms. Kitty v. Shawn. The visitor begins a road doubleheader in 9-ball with the red cue. Pacific's Ms. Kitty worked a four-ball run from the game 1 break, but she scratched to end hers. Midland's Shawn also had a four-ball run, which ended with him deflecting off the 8 to put the 9 in the bottom right for a 1-0 series lead. The Predators' Shawn started well with a ball on the break in game 2, but it didn't stay good for him. Too many mistakes led to the Volcanoes' Ms. Kitty potting a pair from ball-in-hand for the win to tie the series at 1. Shawn couldn't get back on track in game 3, and Ms. Kitty brought a similar finish with a pair of shots for the win. Ms. Kitty won the series 2-1, and she'll visit Viewpoint Sound Meteors veteran Frosty in the bracket quarterfinals.

Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Blizzard v. Shawn. The visitor's doubleheader ends in 15-ball with the red cue. Harrison's Blizzard dominated with a mix of offense and defense in game 1. Midland's Shawn found success in the mid-game, but his 14-15 combination attempt failed, and Blizzard potted the pair individually for a 1-0 series lead. The Specters' Blizzard had a little offense early in game 2, but the end was all for the Predators' Shawn, who pieced together a stunning eight-ball run-out for the win. This tied the series at 1. A back-and-forth battle in game 3 was a drastic change of events. Blizzard had her looks but couldn't finish it off as Shawn got the win for a 2-1 series win. Shawn advances to host Stephanie of the Southridge Defenders in the bracket quarterfinals. Shawn joined the league lead in kills with two after making Blizzard the 40th player out.

IBM Cathedral, North Modernistic: Gal v. Isabella. The blue cue ends the day with 9-ball. North Modernistic's Gal had a perfect start to the series by making the 9 on the game 1 break at the top right. Gal leads Atlantic's Isabella 1-0, as the visitor is completely stunned. The Pirates' Isabella was nearly just as fast in game 2, needing just two shots after an empty break from the Nighthawks' Gal. Isabella won with a 2-9 combination cut to the bottom right to tie the series at 1. Gal let her quality shine in a full-length game 3, with a four-ball run and a three-ball run-out staking her to the win. Gal won the series 2-1 and will play host again in the bracket quarterfinals.

We'll do one more full day tomorrow before getting creative with the schedule over the weekend.
