Tournament XI - Second Round Day 2

We're back for the next day of Second Round action. First up...

Apple Center, Todavía: Pedey v. Stinky. The blue cue makes the start today in 12-ball. Freedom's Stinky had to wait his turn in game 1, as Todavía's Pedey was sharp at the start. That didn't last long, and Stinky made shots to the side pockets at the end for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Cascades' Stinky made a stripe on the break and did better with late positioning to block off the Stills' Pedey at the end of game 2. Stinky closed things out with a pair of shots for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Pedey finally set the tone on offense in game 3, easily grabbing the win to avoid the sweep. Stinky advanced to the bracket quarterfinals on a 2-1 series win.

Ford Forum, Pronger: Potter v. Melissa. The purple cue is ready to go in 8-ball. Pronger's Potter had a great start to game 1, but he fell apart after scratching on his last solid. Terrace City's Melissa made a full comeback, winning on a three-ball run-out for the 1-0 series lead. The Knights' Melissa made seven balls over her first two turns in game 2, quickly getting onto the 8. The Tridents' Potter answered with a five-ball run, but Melissa grabbed the win with the 8 at the bottom left to clinch the series at 2-0. Potter finally put in a full effort in game 3, faltering but holding on at the end to get his lone win over Melissa. The series was Melissa's by a 2-1 score, which sends her into the bracket quarterfinals.

Cisco Arena, Tysini: Sarah v. Mario. The purple cue gets another look in 8-ball. Tysini's Sarah had the better start in game 1, but she fumbled what should have been an easy win with many misses on the 8. Queens' Mario finished on a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Hummingbirds' Sarah showed better late-game command in game 2, working her way to sinking the 8 at the bottom side without allowing the Flames' Mario to make another comeback. This tied the series at 1. Sarah wasn't able to sustain her offense in game 3, as Mario did the heavy lifting early and picked up the close win late. Mario won the series 2-1 to get into a hosting position in the bracket quarterfinals.

T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Strawberry v. Whiskers. The silver cue enters the action in Accuracy. Maplewood's Whiskers had some trouble with scratching in game 1, leading to an easy 2-4 win for Victoria's Strawberry to give the host a 1-0 series lead. The Spurs' Strawberry took her turn to falter in game 2, with a late scratching deciding the 2-3 contest in favor of the Lumberjacks' Whiskers. This tied the series at 1. A close battle in game 3 saw Whiskers get the 2-3 win deep into overtime after Strawberry had another ill-timed scratch. Whiskers won the series 2-1 to earn her place in the bracket quarterfinals.

IBM Cathedral, North Modernistic: Gal v. Sweetheart. The red cue is up next in 10-ball with the host's season on the line. Boston's Sweetheart looked good with a four-ball run in the middle, but North Modernistic's Gal took game 1 on a three-ball run-out. Gal leads the series 1-0. The Nighthawks' Gal kept her season going in game 2, making a 4-7-10 combination to the bottom left after the Swifts' Sweetheart illegally sank the 8 at the bottom side. Gal secured the series at 2-0. Sweetheart made quick work of game 3 after Gal scratched on the break. Sweetheart put the 1-10 combination in the top left on her only shot, leaving Gal to move on to the bracket quarterfinals with a 2-1 series win.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Panda v. Taylor M. The green cue kicks off the host's doubleheader with 9-ball. Everton's Panda enjoyed the better of the offense in game 1, and he picked up a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead over Eastside's Taylor M. The Eagles' Panda had a decent start in game 2, but he didn't bring the same pace later. The Sharks' Taylor M. stepped in to rip down a six-ball run-out for the win, tying the series at 1. Taylor M. seemed to have the edge on offense in game 3 as well, but she followed the 9 with the cue ball at the top right to gift the win and 2-1 series win to Panda. In the bracket quarterfinals, Panda will host again.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Panda v. Tigerette. The host ends his doubleheader with the silver cue in 8-ball. Everton's Panda made a huge comeback push in game 1, only to see Boston's Tigerette get the win when Panda sank the 8 in an uncalled pocket. Tigerette holds a 1-0 series lead. No freebies happened in game 2, as the Swifts' Tigerette fully earned her win while the Eagles' Panda was too slow as he tried to play catch-up. Tigerette sealed the series at 2-0. Tigerette didn't have a comeback in her for game 3 after Panda put together a hot start. Tigerette settled for the 2-1 series win to get into a hosting position in the bracket quarterfinals.

Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Sparkles v. Nibbles. The red cue cycles in for this 15-ball series. Golden's Sparkles made a three-ball run early in game 1 and continued to threaten on offense, but Web City's Nibbles grabbed a three-ball run-out to escape with a win and 1-0 series lead. Game 2 saw a huge reduction in pace on both sides. The Spiders' Nibbles seemed more impacted, and this allowed the Pilots' Sparkles to grab what she needed for a win to tie the series at 1. Sparkles picked up the pace again in game 3, and this time she was able to finish it off for the win and 2-1 series win over Nibbles. Sparkles will host her bracket quarterfinals appearance.

Apple Center, Todavía: Easter v. Mams. West Division rivals tangle in 8-ball for the green cue's daily finale. Todavía's Easter had one of each go down on the game 1 break, and she chose solids. While it was a close battle, Swordpoint's Mams did better on stripes to earn the win and 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Mams simply got ahead in game 2 and never let the Stills' Easter back in the fight. Mams closed out another win with ease to take the series at 2-0. In game 3, Easter was able to salvage a result after Mams lacked a convincing offense. Mams still took the series 2-1 and will host her series in the bracket quarterfinals.

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Toki v. Hershey. The red cue is back for Accuracy. Stonebridge's Hershey started slow in game 1 and never recovered, as Eastside's Toki remained perfect in a blowout 0-7 win for the 1-0 series lead. Game 2 started similarly to the opener, but in the middle, the Wolves' Hershey stabilized while the Sharks' Toki completely fell apart. Hershey ended up with a 4-6 win to tie the series at 1. Hershey got off to a decent start in game 3, and Toki will rue an early scratch as the reason why he lost by a point. Hershey's 2-3 win gave him the series at 2-1, setting him up to play in the bracket quarterfinals.

Kraft Forum, Royal: Sunshine v. Shaggy. The red cue is done after this 12-ball set. Royal's Sunshine wasn't able to get the right shape on his positioning, losing control late as Whitewater's Shaggy maintained pressure. Shaggy picked up the win with a pair of shots to go ahead 1-0 in the series. The Shores' Shaggy got about as close to a win as possible in game 2, but she couldn't quite get a shot to fall in the bottom side. The Crowns' Sunshine held firm and rallied from behind for the win to tie the series at 1. Sunshine was better from the start in game 3, and Shaggy attempted to make a comeback that ended with her late scratch. Sunshine banked his final ball to the bottom right for the win and 2-1 series win to get his place in the bracket quarterfinals.

Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Jane v. Marissa. Best friends meet in 12-ball with the silver cue. Stonebridge's Jane took one of each on the break and turned it into a five-ball run on solids to begin game 1. Maplewood's Marissa did well to make it look close, but Jane finished off the win at the top right for a 1-0 series lead. The Wolves' Jane enjoyed a similar start in game 2, but a scratch early on slowed down her pace. The Lumberjacks' Marissa was good enough to catch up this time, grabbing the win in a narrow finish to tie the series at 1. Marissa made one of each on the game 3 break and chose to play solids, but stripes ended up working out very well for Jane. In the end, Jane was unchallenged for the win and 2-1 series win that puts her in a hosting position in the bracket quarterfinals.

Gillette Center, Swordpoint: Stealth v. Sydney S. The purple cue is done for the day after 7-ball. Boston's Sydney S. unleashed some hard shots in game 1, but she rattled the 7 out of the bottom right for Swordpoint's Stealth to mop up at the end. Stealth holds a 1-0 series lead. The Swifts' Sydney S. again enjoyed a majority of the possession in game 2, only for her late miss on the 7 to give the Blades' Stealth an easy finish. Stealth converted at the top right this time, clinching the series at 2-0. Stealth looked like he was going to finish game 3 on a run, but his two-rail bank of the 7 fell wide of the top left. Sydney S. knocked it down to get on the board, but Stealth will host in the bracket quarterfinals after this 2-1 series win.

Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Shaggy v. Pauline. The host's second series of the day sees the blue cue wrap up in 10-ball. Whitewater's Shaggy prevailed in a choppy game 1 as Queens' Pauline couldn't capitalize on plenty of chances. Shaggy owns a shaky 1-0 series lead. The Flames' Pauline put up a solid showing in game 2, but again fell short on some shots she should have made. The Shores' Shaggy capitalized at the end with the 10 at the top left to get the win that sealed the series at 2-0. Neither player had much interest in game 3, and it went to Pauline at the end after a short chase on the 10. Shaggy won the series 2-1 and will move on to the bracket quarterfinals.

Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Rachel v. Frosty. The day ends with the silver cue completing a venue doubleheader in 13-ball. Whitewater's Rachel worked her way into trouble in game 1, with terrible positioning at the end leading to a fairly easy win for Freedom's Frosty, who leads the series 1-0. In game 2, the Shores' Rachel again had decent offense in response to a hot start from the Cascades' Frosty. Both players needed a side-pocket shot at the end to get onto the 8, and Frosty did so first, easily converting the 8 to the bottom left for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Frosty seemed solid again in game 3, but her play leading onto the 8 wasn't great, buying Rachel just enough time to swoop in for a pair of shots to get the win. Frosty took the series 2-1 and will play in the bracket quarterfinals.

That's it for today. Despite tomorrow being Sunday, the league will likely play on a normal scheduling sequence.
