We're off to a late start but will play a full schedule today. First up...
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Watermelon v. Graham. The blue cue makes the start today in 15-ball. Pearl's Watermelon wasn't able to find much of a groove in game 1, while Central's Graham capitalized on her mistakes well. Graham won on a four-ball run-out for the 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Watermelon steadied herself in game 2, as the Warriors' Graham didn't make a big leap forward on offense. Watermelon was able to sink a six-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Watermelon had some dodgy moments in game 3, but a pair of three-ball runs near the end propelled her past Graham for the 2-1 series win. Watermelon will host again in the bracket quarterfinals.
Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Snuggle v. Molly. The purple cue is ready to go in 9-ball. Southern's Molly tried to make an impact in game 1 with a late push, but she missed the 9 at the top side. Harrison's Snuggle knocked it down to make his earlier three-ball run worth it in the win, taking a 1-0 series lead in the process. The Specters' Snuggle went empty on the break in game 2, and the Monarchs' Molly missed the 1 before Snuggle unleashed a nine-ball run-out for the win. Snuggle clinched the series at 2-0. In game 3, Molly had a little more possession but couldn't do much with it, and Snuggle eventually won on a three-ball run-out for the 3-0 series sweep. Snuggle will be on the road in the bracket quarterfinals.
T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Yekaterina v. Vincent. Club-mates battle in 13-ball with the purple cue. Victoria's Yekaterina was a little slow to start, and she only pulled even with Everton's Vincent late, only for Vincent to escape with the 8 at the top left for the win. Vincent leads the series 1-0. The Eagles' Vincent made one of each and scratched on the break, selecting solids. The Spurs' Yekaterina played a little more defensively this time, baiting Vincent into more errors before beating him with late speed. Yekaterina's win tied the series at 1. Game 3 saw Yekaterina looking good late, but Vincent had time to play some defense in the middle of his four-ball run-out for the win. Vincent took the series 2-1 and he'll be on the road for the bracket quarterfinals.
Apple Center, Todavía: Easter v. Rocky. The red cue enters the action in Accuracy. Todavía's Easter had an unlucky finish in game 1, falling behind with two balls left. She decided to turn it into a chase on the 13, inflating the scores in a 3-4 win over Oceanside's Rocky, who holds a 1-0 series lead. The Stills' Easter took another stumble in game 2, making a mess in the middle to allow the Waves' Rocky a rather easy 2-5 win. Rocky sealed the series at 2-0. Easter again came up short in game 3, missing early and late to let Rocky emerge with a 3-0 series sweep after a 2-3 win. Rocky's steady play earned him hosting privileges versus Southern Monarchs sophomore Molly in the bracket quarterfinals.
BMW RockDome, Westside: Goatee v. Prism. The purple cue is back for 12-ball. Pronger's Prism had a lot of build-up play in game 1, but didn't actually execute anything herself. Westside's Goatee was more proactive on offense, and she easily took the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Rockers' Goatee scratched on the break in game 2, and the Tridents' Prism immediately made a five-ball run in response. It took Prism some time to set up her finish, but she was just fast enough to get the win, tying the series at 1. Goatee returned to a clean performance in game 3, outpacing Prism fairly well to get the win. Goatee took the series 2-1 and will host the Swordpoint Blades' Mams in the bracket quarterfinals.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Max v. Ice Cream. South Division rivals meet in 13-ball with the green cue. Both players were reasonably effective in game 1, but Golden's Max butchered the ending by missing the 8 short once, then overcompensating with a scratch on a follow-shot. This gifted Boston's Ice Cream the 1-0 series lead. The Pilots' Max again struggled to piece some offense together, and at the end, the Swifts' Ice Cream won game 2 on a precise four-ball run-out. Ice Cream secured the series at 2-0. Max made a three-ball run late in a close game 3, and he placed the 8 well to block Ice Cream from the top side. Max then converted on the next turn for the win, while Ice Cream took the series 2-1 to earn a visiting position in the bracket quarterfinals.
BMW RockDome, Westside: Snowball v. Hughbert. The purple cue returns for 10-ball. Westside's Snowball never really recovered from a bad break in game 1, allowing Todavía's Hughbert to mainly set the tone. Hughbert won with an 8-10 combination to the bottom left for a 1-0 series lead. The Stills' Hughbert lost some control in game 2, and the Rockers' Snowball seized it with four of the last five balls to get the win. This tied the series at 1. Game 3 had all the emotions, as Hughbert scratched after a 1-10 kick combination early on. Snowball later made a six-ball run, missed on the 10, and then made it on her second try after Hughbert couldn't corral it. Snowball won the series 2-1 and will head to the bracket quarterfinals.
BMW RockDome, Westside: Misty v. Celestia. North Division captains battle in 13-ball with the red cue to end the venue doubleheader. Oceanside's Celestia let her defense do the talking for much of game 1, frustrating Westside's Misty. When the time came, Celestia delivered a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Waves' Celestia looked on track to get the series in game 2, but she couldn't find any positioning at the bottom side. This bought the Rockers' Misty enough time to win on a four-ball run-out, tying the series at 1. Misty came very close to a win in game 3, but her defensive attempt on the 8 backfired as Celestia unleashed a three-ball run-out for the win. Celestia took the series 2-1 and will play in the bracket quarterfinals.
Chevrolet Center, Everton: Vincent v. Sydney S. The blue cue exits after 12-ball as the visitor puts her season on the line. Everton's Vincent took two stripes on the game 1 break, but his offense soon stalled out. Boston's Sydney S. made a four-ball run and then picked her way to the win from there for a 1-0 series lead. The Eagles' Vincent had everything early on with a four-ball run and decent positioning, but he scratched on his last ball and never got another good look. The Swifts' Sydney S. also had a four-ball run and patience to pick up this win, which clinched the series at 2-0. Sydney S. attacked fast in game 3, and Vincent still nearly made the comeback before she closed it out for a 3-0 series sweep. Sydney S. is set to play in the bracket quarterfinals.
Volkswagen BeetleDome, Viewpoint Sound: Princess v. Snowball. The visitor's second series today is in 15-ball with the green cue. After some grappling around the remnants of the break in game 1, Westside's Snowball lost pace. Viewpoint Sound's Princess ended things early on a 7-15 combination to the bottom left, which also knocked the 11 to the top side as she went ahead 1-0 in the series. In game 2, the Rockers' Snowball had trouble building up on offense. This led to a slow and chippy battle early on before the Meteors' Princess stumbled her way into a six-ball run-out for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Snowball wouldn't go down without a fight in game 3, sinking a 5-15 bank combination to the bottom right for her lone win. Princess won the series 2-1 to get into the bracket quarterfinals.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Valencia v. Sarah. The silver cue's lone series today is in Accuracy. Game 1 saw both players perfect through regulation, only for Tysini's Sarah to scratch on the overtime break. Golden's Valencia easily earned the 0-1 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Hummingbirds' Sarah stumbled early in game 2, while the Pilots' Valencia maintained perfect play until late. While Valencia faltered, she held onto the lead in a 2-3 win to secure the series at 2-0. Valencia was ruthless in game 3, making a ball on the break and holding firm yet again in a 1-2 win to complete a 3-0 series sweep over Sarah. Valencia will having hosting rights in the bracket quarterfinals.
Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Puff II v. Brownie. The red cue cycles in for 10-ball. Harrison's Puff II didn't leverage her offense all that well in game 1, and Royal's Brownie found a three-ball run-out at the end for a 1-0 series lead. The Crowns' Brownie didn't get anything off the break in game 2, and the balls stayed close together. After Brownie missed contact on the 3, the Specters' Puff II buried a 3-10 combination to the top left for the win to tie the series at 1. In game 3, Puff II went empty on the break and Brownie buried the 1-10 combination to the bottom left instantly for the win. Brownie took the series 2-1 to earn her place in the bracket quarterfinals.
Volkswagen BeetleDome, Viewpoint Sound: Princess v. Strawberry. The host's second series today sees the red cue exit after 7-ball. Viewpoint Sound's Princess dominated game 1, making a ball on the break and adding a six-ball run-out on her next turn for the win and 1-0 series lead over Victoria's Strawberry. The Meteors' Princess wasn't able to outright dominate in game 2 as the Spurs' Strawberry put up a better fight, but Princess won anyway with a three-ball run-out to seal the series at 2-0. Princess had a chance at the win in game 3 after scratching on the break, but she scratched while making the 7 to gift it away to Strawberry. Princess still advanced to a hosting position in the bracket quarterfinals on a 2-1 series win.
Nestle's Warriors Hall, Central: Noelle v. Missy. The purple cue is done after 9-ball. Capital City's Missy had an ill-timed scratch late in game 1, letting Central's Noelle complete a stretch where she made five of the last six balls for the win. Noelle owns a 1-0 series lead. The Sharpshooters' Missy put in everything she had into game 2, making a seven-ball run before leaving the 8 up after a failed bank. The Warriors' Noelle picked off the last pair of shots for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. In game 3, a slow start gave Missy a bit of a chance before Noelle slammed the door with a five-ball run-out. Noelle swept the series 3-0 and will be on the road for her bracket quarterfinals appearance.
Kraft Forum, Royal: Brownie v. Bells. The day ends with the green cue in 12-ball. Royal's Brownie couldn't get anything going in game 1, and Zenith's Bells was much sharper as she played stripes. Bells delivered one of the best masse shots in UPCL history to sink the 11 at the top left as her final shot in the win, going ahead 1-0 in the series in style. The Crowns' Brownie had to play all-out defense in game 2, suffocating the shot angles for the Skywatchers' Bells as they scrapped for their last balls at the bottom right. Bells ended up getting a kick shot off, but she scratched, and Brownie took the freebie win to tie the series at 1. Bells and Brownie played even in game 3, but Brownie's positioning was a little better at the end as she won on a three-ball run-out. Brownie took the series 2-1, and she'll visit the Capital City Sharpshooters' Ellie in the bracket quarterfinals.
That's it for today. We're already cruising through the Second Round, which should be back on the usual timeline tomorrow.
