Tournament XI - Second Round Day 3

A regular schedule is set to be played on this Sunday, beginning with...

Google Hall, Modernistic: Maggie v. Debby. The blue cue is ready for its lone series of the day in Accuracy. Modernistic's Maggie had a nightmarish start to game 1, while Diamond's Debby held her own quite nicely. Debby earned a 2-6 win to take the 1-0 series lead. The Gems' Debby made improvements in game 2, keeping a cleaner performance and pushing the Union's Maggie into early trouble. Debby was able to coast to a 1-3 win that sealed the series in her favor at 2-0. Neither player found much joy in game 3, which was tied late until Debby sportingly set up Maggie for the host's 4-5 win. Debby took the series 2-1 and will play on the road in the bracket quarterfinals.

Kraft Forum, Royal: Jake v. Lorde. The green cue gets the second series today, playing 7-ball. Royal's Jake went empty on the break in game 1, but made up for it with a seven-ball run-out on his second turn to earn a 1-0 series lead over Southern's Lorde. The Monarchs' Lorde had a little more influence in game 2, but not much more offense, and her miss on the 3 was costly. The Crowns' Jake poked a 3-7 combination right past the defensive 4 at the top left for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Jake needed a few turns to take game 3, but Lorde again failed to put up much of a fight. Jake swept the series 3-0 and will host the Terrace City Knights' Oreo in the bracket quarterfinals.

Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Taylor S. v. Molly. The red cue joins the party for Accuracy. Commerce's Taylor S. couldn't gain any control in game 1, allowing Southern's Molly to escape with a 3-6 win for the 1-0 series lead. The Monarchs' Molly wrangled the last-shot advantage in game 2 with a double-pot, and that proved crucial to help her avoid taking the overtime break. The Tradewinds' Taylor S. didn't get anything off the overtime break, and Molly made a shot for the 3-4 win to clinch the series at 2-0. Both players were essentially perfect deep into game 3 until Molly sportingly played a miss to give Taylor S. a 0-1 win to avoid overtime. Molly took the series 2-1 and will be on the road again in the bracket quarterfinals.

Mitsubishi Arena, Apex: Cowzart v. Frosty. The purple cue takes a turn in 7-ball. Apex's Cowzart didn't get much going in game 1, and Freedom's Frosty led off with a three-ball run. A difficult ending saw Frosty eventually sink the 7 to the bottom left for the 1-0 series lead. The Wonders' Cowzart put up a better effort in game 2, but it went to waste when the Cascades' Frosty buried a three-ball run-out at the end. Frosty's win here clinched the series at 2-0. Cowzart still improved in game 3, but his lack of finishing skill allowed Frosty to mop up the 7 at the bottom right for the win. Frosty swept the series 3-0 to reach the bracket quarterfinals.

Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Max v. Steven. The green cue is back for this 7-ball series. Golden's Max wasted no time in game 1, getting the 5 in the bottom left and the 7 in the top left on a late fall on the break for the 1-0 series lead over Atlantic's Steven. The two players exchanged pairs of shots on their first turns in game 2. At the end, the Pilots' Max sealed the series at 2-0 with a three-ball run-out after the Pirates' Steven failed to corral the 4. In game 3, Steven struck a 5-7 combination to the top left for a quick win, leaving Max to advance on a 2-1 series win. Max will play on into the bracket quarterfinals.

Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Hershey v. Hoot. In Rotation, the red cue is up. Stonebridge's Hershey put up a big lead to start game 1, but Viewpoint Sound's Hoot stood firm. Hoot pulled all the way back, taking the lead on a double-pot and winning 8-6 for the 1-0 series lead. The Wolves' Hershey didn't take too kindly to his loss, rallying on a five-ball run in game 2 to take a commanding lead. The Meteors' Hoot couldn't push back, and Hershey won 8-2 to tie the series at 1. Hershey had a few too many scratches in game 3, leading to a lot of free possession that helped Hoot earn an 8-4 win. Hoot took the series 2-1 and will be on the road again in the bracket quarterfinals.

UPS Hall, Maplewood: Summer v. Mams. The purple cue draws in for a 12-ball set. Swordpoint's Mams made a savvy double-pot at the start of game 1, taking out the side pockets. Despite good offense, Maplewood's Summer didn't have the right positioning, and Mams easily earned the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Lumberjacks' Summer tried to figure out positioning again in game 2, but she left too many gaps on the table, and the Blades' Mams poked through for the win. Mams clinched the series at 2-0 with a pair of shots at the end. Mams made one of each on the break in game 3, taking solids to avoid a near-term issue. Summer had to deal with an overfill, but smart defense at the top right set her up for a three-ball run-out to get her lone win. Mams advanced to the bracket quarterfinals on a 2-1 series win.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Cleo v. Misty. The red cue plays the next 12-ball series. Everton's Cleo started a little better in game 1, but Westside's Misty took control on a four-ball run with positioning set up for her to make a pair on the next turn. Misty was true at the end for a win and 1-0 series lead. The Rockers' Misty took solids after making one of each on the game 2 break. It looked like the Eagles' Cleo would hold at the end, but Misty got defensive positioning and closed out a win to secure the series at 2-0. Cleo made things interesting in fast game 3, making a three-ball run late but falling just short as Misty completed a 3-0 series sweep. Misty is set for another road appearance in the bracket quarterfinals.

Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Twinkie II v. Sydney S. The silver cue's lone series today is between former teammates in 13-ball. Harrison's Twinkie II had a little more good fortune than Boston's Sydney S. in game 1, winning a close battle. Twinkie II holds a 1-0 series lead. A highly tactical battle emerged in game 2, but things opened up after the Swifts' Sydney S. kicked the 1 to the bottom side. The bad news for her was the Specters' Twinkie II rallying on a five-ball run-out to get the win that sealed the series at 2-0. In game 3, Twinkie II stayed hungry for offense and won on a four-ball run-out after Sydney S. couldn't move around freely on the table. Twinkie II swept the series 3-0 and will host again in the bracket quarterfinals.

Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Angelica v. Oreo. The green cue goes in 8-ball. Terrace City's Oreo had a little burst of offense early in game 1, but Lighton's Angelica quickly took control. Angelica won on a four-ball run-out to get a 1-0 series lead. The Prestige's Angelica had a solid start in game 2, but the Knights' Oreo pulled ahead on a six-ball run. Angelica didn't bounce back as well, and Oreo had enough separation to get the win, tying the series at 1. Angelica found a second wind in game 3 with a four-ball run in the middle. Oreo didn't have an answer for that, and Angelica took the win for a 2-1 series win to put her in a hosting position in the bracket quarterfinals.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Bianca v. Daisy. The host's season is on the line in Rotation with the purple cue. Oceanside's Daisy led narrowly for much of game 1, but she couldn't finish the effort. Southridge's Bianca made the final pair, escaping with an 8-7 win for the 1-0 series lead. The Defenders' Bianca struggled again early in game 2, but she took control of the offense after an unconvincing start from the Waves' Daisy. Bianca made a six-ball run-out to win an 8-5 game, clinching the series at 2-0. Bianca made another escape in game 3, fighting off a relentless Daisy for another 8-7 win to complete the 3-0 series sweep. Bianca will host her series in the bracket quarterfinals.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Kelsea v. Gizmo. The red cue is up for 9-ball. Capital City's Kelsea enjoyed a four-ball run in game 1, but her finishing lacked as North Modernistic's Gizmo picked off the 9 to the bottom right for the win. Gizmo owns a 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Gizmo didn't see much of the ball in game 2, as the Sharpshooters' Kelsea used a five-ball run to establish possession. She later finished off the game with the 9 at the bottom right to tie the series at 1. Kelsea had to work a little harder on offense in a slow game 3, but she was able to make a three-ball run-out to beat Gizmo for the 2-1 series win. Kelsea will host again in the bracket quarterfinals.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Ellie v. Delila. The venue doubleheader ends with the green cue in 12-ball. Capital City's Ellie got in trouble late in game 1 with a scratch, but Atlantic's Delila earned the win with a remarkable pinch bank on the 10 to get it in the top side for the 1-0 series lead. The Pirates' Delila didn't get a great break in game 2. It took a little time for the Sharpshooters' Ellie to establish herself, but she closed out well with a late pair for the win to tie the series at 1. Delila had the better start in game 3, but Ellie was persistent and enjoyed better late positioning to get the win. Ellie will advance to a hosting position in the bracket quarterfinals on this 2-1 series win. This was Delila's 100th unique opponent.

Intel Center, Diamond: Autumn v. Hoppy. More 12-ball sees the red cue end its day. Diamond's Autumn took some gambles on her shots in game 1, but it paid off well as Archtown's Hoppy had nothing for positioning. Autumn easily won on a three-ball run-out for the 1-0 series lead. The Arrows' Hoppy couldn't get anything going in game 2, while the Gems' Autumn continued her creative attacking style in a shutout win. Autumn sealed the series at 2-0. In game 3, Hoppy took the early lead on offense and had the right positioning to finish it off, but Autumn's brilliant shot to the bottom side gave her a perfect line on her last ball to the bottom right for the win. Autumn swept the series 3-0 and will host Westside Rockers captain Misty in the bracket quarterfinals.

Sony Center, Queens: Pauline v. Jane. The green cue finishes the day in 9-ball. Queens' Pauline wasted no time setting the tone in game 1, dropping the 9 in the bottom left on the break for a 1-0 series lead over Stonebridge's Jane. The Flames' Pauline made the 5 on the break in game 2, but missed on the 1 on her next shot. The Wolves' Jane decided to play a quick strike, winning with the 1-9 combination at the top side to tie the series at 1. Pauline had a choppy offense in game 3, but it wasn't enough to salvage a result, as Jane finished off the win with a hard shot on the 9. Jane won the series 2-1 and will have hosting privileges in the bracket quarterfinals.

That's it for today. There's three weeks left in the Second Round, which has it tentatively set to end on August 29.
