Summer Cricket League: Week 5 Part 2

I think this will be just five games again, but the potential for six exists. No matter what, we begin with...

The Guatemala Conquistadors hosting their fifth straight game, this one against the Prague Checkmates. The remarkably consistent Pancho Barrios posted 343 to begin for Prague. Frisco Romero answered with 535 for Guatemala, besting his fellow elite-level Venezuelan former pitcher. Lucila Zavala picked up 136 for the Checkmates. Eustacio Zarraga answered with 319 for the Conquistadors. Hyunjae Kwak couldn't adjust to a rolling ball, scoring just 28 for Prague after the misplay. Kenzo Hashimoto bopped 252 for Guatemala. Corentin Aerts smacked 274 for the Checkmates, keeping them somewhat close. Curtis Caldwell slugged 503 for the Conquistadors, extending their lead. Darryl Estrada wired 527 back for Prague, getting very comfortable in the zone after spraying a few around. Azul Mora had only 42 for Guatemala, leaving them vulnerable. Rayan Carranza cobbled 384 for the Checkmates, giving them 1692 and forcing a response in his homecoming game. The Conquistadors got their answer with 96 from Adrien Laurent for a final of 1747. Guatemala moves to 3-2 while Prague is at 4-4.

Out in Africa, the Johannesburg Lions welcome the American Rebels for the second half of their doubleheader this week. Axel Cools led off with 439 for American. Wiebe Becker got a lot of contact for Johannesburg, but not much good contact in his 198-point effort. Louvel Lefevre clocked 944 for the Rebels, making a very large lead for them. Normando Alonso fell with 89 points for the Lions, an uncharacteristically low output. Sander Lambert managed 129 for American. Ken Howard blasted 609 to get Johannesburg back in the game. Irsyad Sudjana faded for the Rebels, scoring only 98 points. Lucio Adame crushed 816 for the Lions, making it a very tight game. Sabino Chacon had 141 to put American slightly ahead. Oshri Aharonov lined 777 for Johannesburg, giving them a huge lead. Cisco Solorio laid an egg for the Rebels, hitting only 32 to leave them well behind at 1783. Pieter Hendrickx iced the Lions victory with 519 for a total of 3008. Johannesburg goes to 5-5, but more importantly, American falls to 7-1 as all teams have at least one loss and one win now.

Up in Madrid, the Toros bring in the Guatemala Conquistadors, the first road game for the visitors. Frisco Romero pulled in 298 for Guatemala. Madrid answered with 152 from Spencer Howard. Eustacio Zarraga Kwak'd it, posting a meager 57 for the Conquistadors after batting a rolling ball backwards on his wind-up. Pepillo Gamboa didn't capitalize on the opportunity, getting only 144 for the Toros. Kenzo Hashimoto answered with 319 for Guatemala. Lennert Verheyen stumbled with 105 for Madrid, again squandering a chance to catch up. Curtis Caldwell crushed 931 for the Conquistadors, giving them a comfortable lead. Thabo Chahine struggled to 96 points for the Toros, further endangering their chances. Azul Mora struck with 379 for Guatemala, as Blue Lightning added onto the lead. Guillem Gamboa posted 243 for Madrid against his native country's team. Adrien Laurent tallied 112 for the Conquistadors, giving them 2096 total. Martin Badillo ripped 558 for the Toros, but his first 500+ meant nothing as they lost with 1298. Guatemala improves to 4-2 and appear solid on the road, while Madrid drops to 6-7 over halfway through their season.

Continuing along, the Manila Pacmen host the Toronto Mounties. Cyril Hendrickx belted 735 to begin for the high-powered Toronto offense. Haejun Ki had only 112 for Manila. Curro Garza added 327 for the Mounties. Porfirio Cazares continued to struggle, with a meager 36 for the Pacmen this game. Axel Maes tapped 90 for Toronto, a weak effort from a usually reliable player. Sander Verheyen managed only 122 for Manila as the game remains painfully lopsided. Tabor Laureano stayed bad for the Mounties, with a pathetic 33 points this game. Gerben Bovelt tallied only 132 for the Pacmen after failing to get settled in. Jax Puente, a leader of offense, had just 153 for Toronto as all ability to hit well has disappeared. Dries Renard had 248 for Manila, a slight sign of life. Antoine Hendrickx slapped 287 to give the Mounties a final of 1625. Richard Miller grabbed 304, but the Pacmen lost with 954. Toronto takes the top of the table at 8-1, while Manila drops underwater at 4-5.

Finally, the Melbourne Renegades host the Bangkok Sixes. Firdoze Uns had 546 for Bangkok to lead off. Charlie Thompson kept Melbourne close with 531. Gilbert Berry got tripped up with 49 for the Sixes. Theodore White ripped 407 to keep the Renegades in charge. Aleix Nieto saw a bowled ball bounce off his hand a bit high, ending his turn at 50 for Bangkok, as their offense is struggling to fire. Sancho Ramos poked only 112 for Melbourne. Zuri Okafor struck 289 for the Sixes, pulling them a little closer. Rana Naqvi took a bad angle to a ball, scoring a meager 103 for the Renegades as the game tightens up. Rodas Nunez belted 368 for Bangkok, pulling them a modest lead ahead of his former era-mates. Sikke Eichel shot back with 726 for Melbourne, restoring the lead. Luis Godinez stumbled again with 33 for the Sixes, leaving them short at 1335. Stanley Watts sliced 247 to ice the Renegades win at 2126. Melbourne jumps to 7-3 while Bangkok is down to 7-2.

More games tomorrow ahead of the end of the fourth round. Tomorrow will be the end of week 5 as well, with two more Showcase games, despite most UPCL teams knowing what they want to do already.
