Summer Cricket League: Week 7 Part 1

With pool winding down, the SCL faces a race against time for today and the next two days. Things will begin to get a bit tight on time for this week. We begin with...

The American Rebels hosting the Toronto Mounties. Cyril Hendrickx put up 156 for Toronto in what is expected to be a low-scoring week. Axel Cools ripped 310 to give American the lead. Curro Garza blasted 541 for the Mounties, pulling them ahead. The Rebels got only 60 from Louvel Lefevre, who took himself out of the All-Star conversation. Axel Maes chipped in with 227 for Toronto, extending the lead. Sander Lambert kept American going with 424. Tabor Laureano hit 89 for the Mounties, leaving them vulnerable. Irsyad Sudjana clobbered 623 for the Rebels, putting them in the lead and himself in the All-Star nomination. Jax Puente got stuck at 186 for Toronto, leaving them in trouble. Sabino Chacon faltered with only 96 for American. Antoine Hendrickx lifted 503 for the Mounties, putting them at 1702 and forcing the hosts to respond. Cisco Solorio had 160 for the Rebels, falling short with 1673 total. Toronto continues to dominate at 12-1 while American is 8-2.

Next up, the Amsterdam Hotstove welcome the Madrid Toros. Spencer Howard led off with 432 for Madrid. Jerry Burke grabbed 247 for Amsterdam, keeping them a bit close. Pepillo Gamboa blasted another 463 for the Toros, adding onto their lead significantly. Yaozu Miao melted with just 33 points for the Hotstove, completely failing in the pressure situation. Lennert Verheyen chipped 199 for Madrid, keeping the pace quick. The inconsistent Carlos Barajas took a meager 51 for Amsterdam. Thabo Chahine supplied the Toros with 288 to keep them going. Veto Casas shot back with a crisp 334 for the Hotstove in a weak comeback attempt. Guillem Gamboa tacked on another 288 for Madrid, staying the course in a comfortable lead. Andrew Reynolds hauled in 171 for Amsterdam, a good outing for him. Martin Badillo's 128 gave the Toros a final of 1798. Manolito Avalos' 361 made it 1197 in the loss for the Hotstove. Madrid improved to 8-8 while Amsterdam falls to 2-13 in what's quickly becoming a lost season.

Continuing along, the Bangkok Sixes host the Johannesburg Lions. Wiebe Becker began with 250 for Johannesburg. Firdoze Uns lifted 392 for Bangkok, giving them the slight lead early on. Normando Alonso answered with 208 for the Lions. Gilbert Berry shot back with 336 for the Sixes. Ken Howard had 201 for Johannesburg, keeping them just a bit behind in the game. Aleix Nieto posted 352 for Bangkok, adding onto their lead. Lucio Adame got cut down at 263 for the Lions, likely their least hope of a big rally. Zuri Okafor unleashed 544 for the Sixes against his home country's team. Oshri Aharonov knocked 274 for Johannesburg, keeping them somewhat in range. Rodas Nunez swatted 383 for Bangkok, extending the lead again. Pieter Hendrickx posted 376 for the Lions, a solid total but not enough in the end as they lost with 1572. Luis Godinez's slump continued with just 69 for the Sixes, but they won anyway with 2076. Bangkok jumps to 9-3 while Johannesburg is 6-7.

Back in Europe, the Brussels Chocolatiers bring in the Toronto Mounties. Cyril Hendrickx scored only 20 for Toronto in his homecoming to Belgium. Patrido Salazar had only 135 for Brussels, failing to make a statement early in the game. Curro Garza struck back with 256 for the Mounties. Florent Claes managed 194 for the Chocolatiers, making it a close game. Axel Maes smacked 420 for Toronto in his homecoming game, giving the visitors the lead. Dobromil Zeman got jammed on the hands, resulting in just 162 for Brussels, as the game starts to slip away from the hosts. Tabor Laureano did his usual for the Mounties, with a measly 64 from the league's worst player this season. Rodas Cazares crushed 433 for the Chocolatiers to get them back in the game, a great effort from one of the Hipsters' baseball all-time greats. Jax Puente, the only comparable to Cazares, scored 291 for Toronto, giving them a slight lead. Eric Zaragoza sliced 510 for Brussels, coming out of nowhere to retake the lead at an even larger margin. Antoine Hendrickx could only score 128 for the Mounties in his homecoming game, resulting in his team losing with 1179. Jaturun Choen iced the Chocolatiers victory with 395 for a final of 1829. Brussels goes to 6-10, very much in the battle, while Toronto takes a rare loss to drop to 12-2.

Finally, the Caracas Hitmen host the road-weary Toronto Mounties. Cyril Hendrickx batter 281 for Toronto this time, a stronger start against a weaker team. Vitaya Grichson answered with 320 for Caracas, a narrow lead the result after one player each. Curro Garza managed only 136 for the Mounties, leaving them in trouble early. Barasa Contee slipped with 114 for the Hitmen. Axel Maes cranked out 343 for Toronto, trying to capitalize on the closeness of the game. Noppadon Gruemor slipped up with a meager 103 for Caracas. Tabor Laureano had 103 for the Mounties in his homecoming to Venezuela, the first time in nine road games he reached triple digits. Trevor Watson swatted 266 for the Hitmen, making the game slightly close. Jax Puente again faltered, scoring only 92 for Toronto to leave them extremely vulnerable, and also play his way into danger of missing the All-Star team. Maynard Cabagnot's 270 put Caracas in the lead with a player each to go in the low-scoring game. Antoine Hendrickx tallied 281 for the Mounties, for a final of 1236. Bojing Luo lifted his last ball, ending at 152 for 1225 total for the Hitmen, taking a narrow loss. Toronto jumps to 13-2 while Caracas is 3-9 in the unfortunate ending.

Tomorrow will likely be similar today. Cricket in the night after a day of pool. Schedules are very tight right now.
