Summer Cricket League: Week 6 Part 2

Five more games of league action on today, beginning in...

Guatemala, with the Conquistadors hosting the Melbourne Renegades. Charlie Thompson began with 432 for Melbourne. A very tired Guatemala team saw just 105 from Frisco Romero. Theodore White hit only 33 for the Renegades, stumbling early in the game. Eustacio Zarraga pulled the Conquistadors closer with 223. Sancho Ramos had a bad bounce in his turn, taking a meager 24 for Melbourne as they fall into serious danger. Kenzo Hashimoto squandered a chance for Guatemala, putting up just 89 points. Rana Naqvi took 211 for the Renegades, which may act as separation in this game. Curtis Caldwell smacked 360 for the Conquistadors, putting them ahead. Sikke Eichel rallied for 667 for Melbourne, regaining the lead in the process. Azul Mora had 343 for Guatemala, getting some points back. Stanley Watts had 129 to put the Renegades at 1496 total, a vulnerable ending. Adrien Laurent took a measly 33 at the end for the Conquistadors, giving them a loss with 1153. Melbourne became the first team to 10 wins at 10-3, while Guatemala dropped to 5-5.

Down in Johannesburg, the Lions welcome the Guatemala Conquistadors, who will complete their four-straight games routine. Frisco Romero knocked 298 for Guatemala, as they appear to have been saving their energy. Wiebe Becker clobbered 472 for Johannesburg. Eustacio Zarraga countered with 495 for the Conquistadors. Normando Alonso bopped 378 for the Lions, keeping them ahead. Kenzo Hashimoto's backhand attempt went too high, giving him 298 for Guatemala. Ken Howard had only 193 for Johannesburg, making the game a little closer. Curtis Caldwell blew the go-ahead chance for the Conquistadors with a measly 6 points. Lucio Adame ripped 532 for the Lions, putting them comfortably ahead. Azul Mora answered with 321 for Guatemala. Oshri Aharonov slapped 634 for Johannesburg, extending the lead. Adrien Laurent's 74 gave the Conquistadors a final of 1492, taking a loss. Pieter Hendrickx iced the Lions win at 2408 with an individual 199 to end the game. Johannesburg moves to 6-5, passing the now 5-6 Guatemala.

Next up, the Madrid Toros host the Seoul Crushers. Natal Badillo didn't get all of the ball that got behind him, producing 96 for Seoul. The light-hitting Spencer Howard had only 90 for Madrid, keeping the game low and close early. Gwandoya Makeba produced 346 for the Crushers, giving them a slight lead. A bad bounce ended Pepillo Gamboa's effort at 104 for the Toros. The unrelated Leandro Gamboa scored 332 for Seoul, adding onto the lead. Lennert Verheyen had only 87 for Madrid, compounding their deficit. Max Jennings failed on his double-hit attempt, ending his turn at 160 for the Crushers. Thabo Chahine absolutely blew it for the Toros, skying a ball for a score of 25. Frank Schmidt struggled to 9 points for Seoul, as the game turned embarrassing. Guillem Gamboa (unrelated to both of the other Gamboas) had 338 to pull Madrid a little closer in the pathetically low-scoring game. Zdenko Jansky slugged 1194 for the Crushers at the end, giving them a final of 2137 in a likely win. Martin Badillo, the father of Seoul's Natal, scored 192 as the Toros lost with 836. Seoul is now 3-7, while Madrid drops to 6-8.

Out in Manila, the Pacmen bring in the Johannesburg Lions. Wiebe Becker chipped 290 for Johannesburg to open. Haejun Ki answered with 501 for Manila, giving them the early lead. Normando Alonso got back on track with 513 for the Lions. Porfirio Cazares even got in on the fun, with 463 for the Pacmen to maintain their lead. Ken Howard couldn't control the last ball despite a couple of errant swings, ending at 289 for Johannesburg. Sander Verheyen lined 456 for Manila, extending the lead. The wild Lucio Adame had a measly 69 for the Lions, which is bad news when their best player can't erase the deficit. Gerben Bovelt walloped 679 for the Pacmen, likely putting the game out of reach already. Oshri Aharonov had 164 for Johannesburg as they play out the end of the game. Dries Renard got most of it back with 160 for Manila as the hosts coast in to the finish. Pieter Hendrickx wrangled only 21 in his all-or-nothing approach, and the Lions lost with 1346. Richard Miller put up 176 to give the Pacmen a final of 2435. Manila goes to 5-5 while Johannesburg goes to 6-6.

Finally, the Melbourne Renegades host the Madrid Toros. Spencer Howard hit 281 for Madrid, a solid start to the game. Charlie Thompson couldn't handle a ball coming in hot, and bounced it back for a score of 75 for Melbourne. Pepillo Gamboa expertly brought a ball from behind him to just in front for a two-hit blast, but he ended shortly after that with 180 for the Toros. Theodore White looked lost out there with only 25 for the Renegades as he swung way too early. Lennert Verheyen poked 147 for Madrid. Sancho Ramos again had just 112 for Melbourne, as they struggle to fire on offense. Thabo Chahine hit 82 for the Toros in a game devoid of all offense. Rana Naqvi pulled back for the Renegades with 211. Guillem Gamboa got caught ball watching as he scored just 157 for Madrid. Sikke Eichel managed only 148 for Melbourne, as they appear destined to lose. Martin Badillo's 266 made it 1113 for the Toros as their final, far from secure but likely enough in this game. The Renegades ended with 592 after a pathetic 21 from Stanley Watts. Madrid bounces back to 7-8 while Melbourne slides to 10-4.

More games tomorrow, including the halfway point of the season and more Showcases. Pool is up next for a full slate today before the last partial day tomorrow.
