Summer Cricket League: Week 7 Part 3

It's the final appearance of Showcase games today, with the last two of those coming as a prelude to the end of the pool tournament. We also lead off with three league games, beginning in...

Prague, as the Checkmates host the Toronto Mounties. Cyril Hendrickx scooped out 849 for Toronto to begin. Pancho Barrios replied with 305 for Prague. Curro Garza smacked another 751 for the Mounties, building a huge lead. Lucila Zavala tallied only 148 for the Checkmates. Axel Maes chipped 160 for Toronto, keeping things simple with the big lead on their side. Hyunjae Kwak ripped 376 for Prague, pulling slightly closer. Tabor Laureano showed improvement again, hitting 207 for the Mounties to keep the attack well-paced. Corentin Aerts got stuck at 24 for the Checkmates as the pitch became a bit cluttered for him. Jax Puente likely just played himself out of the All-Star game with a weak 66 for Toronto. Darryl Estrada had 213 for Prague, also playing himself down for the All-Star game but pulling his team closer in this game. Antoine Hendrickx had a measly 54 for the Mounties, and they ended with 2087. Rayan Carranza also hit jut 54 for the Checkmates, as they took the loss with 1120. Toronto improves to 14-2 while Prague drops to 5-7.

Over in Seoul, the Crushers welcome the Amsterdam Hotstove. Jerry Burke faltered with just 36 for Amsterdam. Natal Badillo slapped 472 for Seoul to take a big lead early. Yaozu Miao took only 149 for the Hotstove. Gwandoya Makeba launched 527 for the Crushers, extending their lead. Carlos Barajas stumbled with 81 for Amsterdam, as it appears they will squander the momentum gained from their last game. Leandro Gamboa crushed 639 for Seoul, likely already putting the game out of reach. Veto Casas swatted 871 for the Hotstove, pulling them significantly closer in the game. Max Jennings answered with 329 for the Crushers, maintaining their lead. Andrew Reynolds hauled in 162 for Amsterdam in his turn. Frank Schmidt poked 339 for Seoul, adding onto the lead one more time. Manolito Avalos posted 328 for the Hotstove, but they lost with 1627. Zdenko Jansky popped 544 for the Crushers, resulting in a 2850 final for them. Seoul moves to 4-8 while Amsterdam is 3-15.

Finally, Week 7 ends with the Toronto Mounties completing a home-and-home with the Prague Checkmates by bringing them into Canada. Pancho Barrios launched 626 to start for Prague. Cyril Hendrickx pulled in 249 for Toronto, putting them behind. Lucila Zavala cranked a bedeviled 666 for the Checkmates to add onto their lead. Curro Garza had only 192 for the Mounties, who are struggling in the rematch. Hyunjae Kwak stumbled with 96 for Prague. Axel Maes grabbed 239 for Toronto, doing little to solve the deficit. Corentin Aerts batted 336 for the Checkmates, keeping them firmly in charge. Tabor Laureano continued to surprise, belting 479 for the Mounties. Darryl Estrada answered with 497 for Prague. Jax Puente jacked up for 818 for Toronto, likely rejoining the All-Star conversation while getting his team back in the game. Rayan Carranza tacked on 250 to put the Checkmates at a final of 2471. Antoine Hendrickx rallied for 392, but the Mounties fell with 2369. Prague goes to 6-7 while Toronto sticks at 14-3.

Now, the last of the Showcases, beginning with the Brussels Chocolatiers hosting Coastal. Americus started with 184 for Coastal. His future is not looking good for the Oceanside Waves, as they are not dictating their own path, instead letting the Southern Monarchs make that decision for them (more on that later). Patrido Salazar had only 82 for Brussels. Panda had 208 for Coastal, but he appears safe with the Monarchs, as his pool efforts will likely lead him to being named captain during the rebuild. Florent Claes cranked out 336 for the Chocolatiers, giving them a narrow lead. Roxy ripped 304 for Coastal, but the Waves appear determined to let her go after a disappointing season. Dobromil Zeman stumbled with 20 points for Brussels, causing them to fall behind. Stripes tallied 144 for Coastal, and the Viewpoint Sound Meteors are still undecided as to what the future holds for her. The supporting cast for the Meteors did not have a good season, but Stripes has tenacity that the rest of the team lacks, and the Meteors like that trait, maybe enough to hold her against conventional wisdom. Rodas Cazares pulled back with 312 for the Chocolatiers, getting them close again. Shawn had only 128 for Coastal, and the Monarchs are expected to part ways with their captain after he led the tank job. This decision likely forces the Waves to toss Americus back, since the two players have nearly identical numbers across the board. Eric Zaragoza put up just 80 points for Brussels. Lydia tacked on 271 for a final of 1239 for Coastal, in a fairly average audition since the Meteors are expected to drop Lydia into the draft pool after a poor performance behind leading scorer Mr. Snowman. Jaturun Choen ended with 88 for the Chocolatiers, who fell with 918.

Finally, the SCL All-Stars host the Inland Southwest. B. Chapman scored 183 for Inland Southwest, but she is expected to return to the Victoria Spurs, potentially as captain as they face a tough year ahead. Lucio Adame nearly hit his average for SCL, with 539 to get them off to a strong start. Twinkie I slapped 304 for Inland Southwest. Twinkie I is expected to stay with the Lighton Prestige for another season after a strong, albeit a bit short, run in pool. Gerben Bovelt rocked 408 for the All-Stars, adding onto the lead. Marsell didn't inspire confidence with 92 for Inland Southwest. On a growth basis, the Tysini Hummingbirds should give Marsell another year, but with standards being raised for that team, they may look to dabble in a rookie or veteran coming off a down year. Irsyad Sudjana tallied 523 for SCL, extending the lead again. Bright took only 96 for Inland Southwest, as they fall dangerously behind. The Hummingbirds are also undecided on bringing Bright back or not, pointing to his second round collapse as a cautionary tale, but they may do so for continuity and a higher upside than Marsell. Jax Puente crushed 665 for the All-Stars, securing the lead. Pounce belted 604 for the Inland Southwest. The Prestige are uncertain on Pounce, and a lot of it may come down to his performance in the City Cup as to whether he stays or goes. Darryl Estrada lifted 719 for SCL, confirming a victory in all but an official way. Smudge's 368 gave Inland Southwest a total of 1647 in the loss. Smudge and the Infinity City Torpedoes are a bit at odds, but with the team in the City Cup, Smudge will get one last chance to prove herself and return as captain. Gilbert Berry iced the All-Stars win with 232 to make it 3086 total.

That's all for cricket this week. The SCL will move to a three-days-a-week schedule for awhile until the playoffs, with one week potentially doubling down should I get bored on a Sunday. Two days per league week will play four games, and one will play five games. Now, onto pool.
