We're back with more games, beginning with...
Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Surfers had a pretty decisive victory over the Specters in their previous meeting on the coast. Watermelon had a shaky first turn for Pearl, taking just 96 after a bad swing. Slinks answered with a crisp 496 for Harrison, giving them a solid lead early in the game. Neopolitan got an unfavorable ruling with contact, ending with 8 as a double-hit and a lifted ball gave the Surfers virtually nothing. Twinkie II batted a stout 433 for the Specters, adding nicely to their lead. Wings answered with 391 for Pearl, but they remain pretty far behind. Sydney slipped with just 199 for Harrison, but their lead isn't in danger. Cowzart hit a solid 285 for the Surfers, but they took the loss on 780 total. Brownie brought a quick end with a meager 42 for the Specters, but they still won with 1170. Harrison is up to 20-30 with the series split, while Pearl falls to 28-21. Tangentially affected, the Eagles can now finish no lower than ninth.
Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: A big Southwestern Derby looms for the Torpedoes as they look to keep their progress positive if they can earn a sweep over bitter rivals. Spice spiked a quick 521 for Victoria to set the derby tone early on. Smudge had no part in ending with 450 for Infinity, falling to a high deflection that ended her turn just shy of covering the deficit. B. Chapman added 327 for the Spurs, keeping their lead reasonably solid. Shelley knocked 441 for the Torpedoes, giving them a minor lead at the halfway mark. Yekaterina had a slight moment of panic, which cost her as she ended with 171 for Victoria. Gabe steadily pummeled his way to a humongous 1675 for Infinity, likely cementing their lead. Kavan only got 178 back as the Spurs lost with 1197, unable to weather a large storm like this one. Whiskers showed a lot of poise in hitting 327 to ice the Torpedoes win at 2893. Infinity makes it eight straight wins as they have played their way off the bubble for now at a record of 28-23, while Victoria is down to 20-32 with the loss.
Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: Staying in the Southwest region, we have a slightly less intense rivalry featuring strong West Division teams. Snowball struck 361 for Swordpoint in a decent start to the game. Acorn didn't get too far clear of her, putting up 376 for Lighton as they take a minuscule lead. Dreamy faltered with 39 for the Blades, doing nothing of particular help for them. Spirit sliced 450 for the Prestige, giving them a much stronger lead this time around. Shawn made it even worse for Swordpoint, taking a pathetic 20 as they spiral out of control. Twinkie I poked 178 to maintain the Lighton lead. Stealth made a huge rally with 575 for the Blades, but they still came up short at 995 total. Lydia's 376 put the Prestige at 1380 overall in their win. Lighton advances to 28-21, while Swordpoint's fifth straight loss sees them out of first in the division, falling behind the Volcanoes with a record of 31-20, good for a three-way tie for sixth at this point.
UPS Ground, Maplewood: These two teams meet again at the end of the week as they get their season series out of the way quickly. Bear had a bit of a weak effort with only 231 for Whitewater to get things started. Fluffina took a bad angle on her last hit, ending at 128 for Maplewood as the game starts off low-scoring. Twinkie III pounded 814 for the Shores in response, giving them a large lead at this point. Bryant slugged 1292 for the Lumberjacks, and they are now in the lead. Cheddar was too stunned to put up any more than 120 for Whitewater as the game gets bleak for them. Diddley staved it off with 201 for Maplewood, keeping them firmly in the lead. Wild Thing came up short with his solid 384 for the Shores, giving them 1549 in a fifth straight loss on the road. Cubby iced it with 520 for the Lumberjacks, putting them at 2141 in a big win. Maplewood is still on the Bubble Watch, but with a 22-21 record to get them more solidly in sixteenth, while Whitewater drops to 20-35.
Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Prestige want a sweep here, but the Union look prepared to put up a fight. Acorn smacked 680 for Lighton to give them a great opener. Juno didn't get much of a response, scoring 249 for Modernistic as the hosts start from behind. Spirit lined another 590 as the Prestige play a dominant game. Ms. Puppy chipped 160 as the Union fall farther behind at the halfway mark. Twinkie I saw a bad deflection end her turn at 99 for Lighton, but their lead seems stable. Chimpy recovered a lot of the deficit with his 539 for Modernistic, but they'll still need quite a bit more as the final players come to bat. Lydia churned out 341 in a grueling turn, putting the Prestige at a total of 1710 in what should go for a win. Puff I outplayed her daughter, but her 152 put the Union at 1100 in the loss. Lighton's win sees them to 29-21 in tenth place, while Modernistic falls to 20-31.
AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Blades need to break their fall quickly, but a surprisingly firm Waves team stands in their way in this West Division battle, with the hosts hungry for a sweep. Snowball earned no redemption with 200 for Swordpoint, even though replay shows she should have been offered an optional replay. Snuggle didn't provide a lot of resistance, but his 298 did put Oceanside ahead. Dreamy took a staggering hit that ended her turn at 256, giving the Blades a second chance with a minor lead. Bells beefed up the Waves lead with 370 on her turn. Shawn poked 211 for Swordpoint, failing to cover the deficit with the weak effort. Alyssa had a modest 264 for Oceanside, slightly outplaying her boyfriend. Stealth proved reliable again with 480 for the Blades, putting them at 1147 for their final. Pounce picked up 472 for the Waves, giving them the win on 1404 total. Oceanside sweeps the season series, going to 30-22, while Swordpoint has dropped all the way to ninth with a 31-21 record on a six game losing streak.
Verizon Field, Pacific: The West-leading Volcanoes look to avoid a sweep against the Surfers, who will have to budget their energy for their home game up next. Watermelon proved solid in starting with 345, much better than her last effort. Starlight belted 907 for Pacific to give them a nice lead. Neopolitan buckled under the pressure with just 152 for the Surfers. Ms. Kitty carved out another 492 for the Volcanoes, boosting the lead at the halfway point. Wings clubbed 714 for Pearl, recovering a large portion of the deficit. Jack stayed solid with 359 for Pacific, maintaining their lead well. Cowzart flicked 407 for the Surfers, but they came up short at 1618. Leonette finished the Volcanoes win with 415, putting them at 2173 in the win. Pacific's West Division lead is thriving now at 33-20 in fourth place, while Pearl takes another drop to 28-22 with the division loss.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Two of the busier teams of the segment tangle here in a third straight West Division battle, and the Surfers are the ones looking to sweep in this game. Acorn posted a quick 464 for Lighton to lead off the game. Watermelon nearly caught up with 436 for Pearl, keeping it close early on. Spirit got stuffed with some spin at 160 for the Prestige, and their lead weakens. Neopolitan made a marginal gain with 168 for the Surfers, failing to fully capitalize on the opportunity. Twinkie I had a reasonable 298 for Lighton, but could have gone farther if she hadn't played so aggressively. Wings blew the game open with 593 for Pearl, giving them a noticeable lead with a player each to go. Lydia couldn't answer, taking 135 to give the Prestige 1057 in a loss. Cowzart closed it up with 519 for the Surfers, giving them a final of 1716 in a much-needed win. Pearl bounces back up to 29-22, while Lighton falls to the same mark, leaving them tied in eleventh place.
Tridents Park sponsored by Ford, Pronger: The Lumberjacks look to sweep the Tridents as their schedule fills a bit more with this East Division battle. Fluffina tallied 441 as Maplewood starts off pretty well. Strawberry put up a fight for Pronger, lifting 514 to give them the initial lead. Bryant replied with 394 for the Lumberjacks as they regain a smaller lead the second time around. Hoot retained a lead for the Tridents with 384, narrowly missing a backhand/backwards spike combination at the end of his turn. Diddley stumbled with 231 for Maplewood, making this lead less stable. Precious failed to recover a lead with a measly 80 as she squandered a chance for Pronger. Cubby finished with 292 for the Lumberjacks, giving them 1358 total. Paps completed the fall for the Tridents, with his 73 giving them 1051 in the loss. Maplewood is reaping the benefits of having as many as thirteen games in hand over the team they're trying to escape, and now stand at 23-21 on the year, while Pronger slides to 17-34.
Ebay Center, Queens: The long-awaited second part of this bitter Southeastern Derby is here, with the Crowns set for a doubleheader in the next game after trying to salvage a split here. Frosty started modestly with only 224 for Royal. Crystal edged Queens ahead with 304 on her opening turn. Jake stumbled with a measly 25 for the Crowns, and they remain behind. Kayla mashed 766 for the Flames, giving them a substantial lead at the halfway mark. Marsell looked overwhelmed for much of his turn, but he hauled in 480 for Royal to cut some of the deficit away. Max chipped 180 for Queens, allowing their lead to shrink a bit late in the game. Nightfur couldn't answer for the Crowns, hitting 269, giving them 998 in the loss. Paige tapped 98 to give the Flames 1348 in their win. Queens gets a sweep over their rivals to move to 20-33, while Royal is 16-32 after suffering said sweep.
Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The final game of the segment sees the Volcanoes try to end their road skid with a potential sweep of the Crowns, which would also help their division lead. Starlight crushed 953 for Pacific, wasting no time in establishing a lead. Frosty answered with 353 for Royal in a decent showing. Ms. Kitty got cut down with 152 for the Volcanoes, but their lead appears safe. Jake matched it with 152 of his own for the Crowns, not helping them cover the gap at all. Jack drilled a nice 443 for Pacific to extend their lead a bit more. Marsell hit 328 for Royal in a decent appearance for the veteran. Leonette tacked on 304 to put the Volcanoes at a final of 1852 in what should be a win. Nightfur's 49 left the Crowns at 882 in the loss. Pacific's is cruising at 34-20, while Royal is 16-33 after suffering a sweep.
I intend to play the final segment of the week tomorrow, and then get as much as possible done after that, with the week ending on Friday at the latest before the spring break. I'll keep you updated with upwards of four more posts before the end of the week.
