UPCL Cricket: Week 27 Part 3

It's the grand finale of this cricket week. There are only five more weeks after this, making the playoff chase all the more intense in April. We begin with...

Microsoft Pitch at Del Sur: The Warriors look for a sweep over the Monarchs, and they've got momentum on their side as well. Twilight started with 750 for Central, a big opener to set the tone in this game. Panda was doing well until he took out his own stumps on a bad swing, but he did produce 463 for Southern. Dustin slipped up with a weak 60 for the Warriors, leaving them vulnerable. Shannon cut about halfway into the deficit with 225 for the Monarchs, who still trail halfway through the game. Noelle restarted the Central attack with 512 on her turn, restoring their lead to a healthy level. Kirstin did okay with 296 for Southern, but the game is slipping away from them. Gizmo had a mediocre 128 for the Warriors, putting their final at 1450, far from being completely safe. Nicole had only 84 for the Monarchs, and they lost with 1068 overall. Central improves to 32-21 in a three-way tie for seventh in the league, while Southern remains in the cellar at 14-41.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Warriors head inland for a second road game in a row against a slightly tougher opponent, as the Defenders spoiled the Warriors' home opener this year. Central's Twilight managed the chaos of her turn well, but fell shortly after with only 148 points to give. Boots rallied for 577 for Southridge, making them a continual thorn in the sides of their guests. Dustin took 247 back for the Warriors, but they seem fatigued. Debby pounded 1014 for the Defenders in response, likely securing the lead pretty early. Noelle got torn between her backhand and a spike-stop play that didn't work, ending with 209 for a tired Central side. J. Garcia went with 633 for Southridge, who can't yet be counted out of the playoff hunt despite a large standings deficit. Gizmo hauled in 587 for the Warriors, but they suffered defeat with 1191. Shaggy capped it with 424 herself for 2648 total. Southridge's confident win earned them a sweep and puts them at 24-30, while Central drops to 32-22, into ninth place now.

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades have a chance to stop their slide and sweep the Arrows with this game. Sally had just 208 for Archtown, not an ideal start for the visitors. Snowball had a more reliable effort, striking 479 to give Swordpoint the initial lead. Sleepy B. had a few issues on her turn, and ended up with only 225 for the Arrows. Her older sister Dreamy answered with 424 to extend the Blades lead halfway through the game. Ruby added 211 for Archtown, who don't seem to have much of an offense here. Shawn had only 33 for Swordpoint, potentially leaving them vulnerable late in the game. Dusky couldn't get the bat moving well, taking a pathetic 25 for the Arrows, which sealed their losing total of 669. Stealth didn't impress with 160, but this was enough to give the Blades a win on 1096. Swordpoint gets a win and a sweep, going to 33-21 and taking sole possession of seventh, while Archtown is down to 18-30 on a six-game losing streak, and with the heaviest remaining schedule.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: It would be a shock if the Knights don't extend their winning streak against a team they beat thoroughly only a few weeks ago. Kiwi lifted 408 to give Terrace City a small lead early on. Hoot had a good pace on his quick appearance, scoring a fast 81 for the Tridents to cover the deficit just barely. Jennifer smacked 752 to give the Knights a nice lead at the halfway mark. Precious had 104 for Pronger in a poor showing that does nothing to help them catch up. Oreo swatted 545 more for Terrace City to cement their lead. Paps copped 408 to bring the Tridents to 921 overall in another loss, and they will suffer a sweep. Stripes launched 1036 to ice the Knights win at 2741, good to extend their streak again. Terrace City has won fourteen straight to move to 34-20, while Pronger is down to 19-35 on the year.

Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills could really use a sweep of the Pirates to put the pressure on one of the Pirates' rivals, the Cascades. Delila carved out 592 for Atlantic to begin the game, a solid opening attack. Easter had 177 for Todavía in a middling effort that sees the hosts starting from behind. Amber never got comfortable after struggling to clear the pitch, and she had 113 for the Pirates. Sierra belted 973 for the Stills, pulling them into a nice lead halfway through the game. Americus got some back with 373 for Atlantic, but they still trail. Leonardo's backhand cut him down at 491 for Todavía, but their lead is large at a good time for it to be so. Dominic's 176 put the Pirates short at 1254 in the loss. Sparkles poked 426 to give the Stills a final of 2067 in a big win. Todavía is really fighting now at 28-29, a half-game out of sixteenth, but the Cascades have five games in hand. Atlantic is dragged down to 26-23 at the same time, into a tie for fourteenth that adds a bit of intrigue just above the red line.

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds need to get a series split if they want to hold onto first place in the West. Sally slapped 729 for Archtown to lead things off in good form. Princess shot back with 679 for Tysini, keeping them in range early on. Sleepy B. didn't get a good effort in, taking 251 for the Arrows as their lead turns vulnerable. Leandra crushed 1062 for the Hummingbirds, lifting them to a sizable lead. Ruby fired back with 472 for Archtown, but they're still significantly behind. Charli tacked on 383 for Tysini, maintaining their lead pretty well before the final players step up to bat. Dusky dazzled with a perfect backhand transition save, rallying for 858 for the Arrows, giving them 2310, and forcing a response from the hosts. Bright held on for dear life but managed 256 for the Hummingbirds, carrying them to a win on 2380. Tysini is up to 35-19 on a five-game winning streak, a half-game ahead in fourth place, and holders of a game-in-hand over the Volcanoes. Archtown takes a hard-luck loss down to 18-31 on a seven-game losing streak.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Rockers try to sustain their surge in their first meeting with the Spurs this season. Misty pummeled 796 for Westside, setting a harsh tone early in the game. Spice bounced a ball up on a deflection, and then got knocked out by it as the next ball deflected out to end her turn at 63 for Victoria. Goatee shocked everyone when she turned a misread ball into a perfect backhand flick to the back 6s, storming her way to 851 for the Rockers in the process. B. Chapman had a reliable 355 for the Spurs, but they're far behind. Midnight tapped 193 for Westside, putting them in cruise control to close out this game. Yekaterina made a lot of progress with 726 for Victoria, but they'll need a lot more yet. Chicky Phil hit 234 to give the Rockers a final of 2074 in what should be a win. Kavan had 304 for the Spurs, but they took the loss with a total of 1448. Westside looks good late in the year, going to 25-30 on a four-game winning streak, while Victoria is down to 20-35 as losers of four straight.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Spiders have a chance to sweep, and they had best get the win here if they want the rest of their schedule to mean anything. Shadow lined 525 for Web City to lead things off in good form. Mr. Snowman smashed 957 for Viewpoint Sound, only ending when he deflected a ball that landed just out of bounds behind him. Rainmane answered with 328 for the Spiders, failing to cover the deficit. Mams shot back with 433 for the Meteors, boosting their lead a little bit. Sugar's mandatory replay turned out to be a true penalty, as she lost ground and had 144 for Web City. Zach failed to capitalize, mishitting a deflected ball to end with a paltry 39 for Viewpoint Sound. Shiny couldn't cover the deficit with 128 for the Spiders, and they lost another with 1125, their seventh straight road loss. Kelly produced 243 to ice the Meteors win at 1672. Viewpoint Sound earned a series split, going to 21-31, while Web City is 24-29 and falling way off pace.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders are in a must-win scenario for their playoff hopes, while the Defenders could use the win and a sweep to their own advantage. Boots took an aggressive approach and ended with 144 for Southridge in a poor showing. Shadow batted 295 to give Web City a minor lead. Debby turned things around with a massive 767 for the Defenders, testing the mettle of their hosts. Rainmane buckled under pressure with only 199 for the Spiders, who are in serious trouble at the halfway mark. J. Garcia sliced 395 for Southridge to boost their lead again. Sugar took 199 more for Web City as they falter again. Shaggy likely sealed the win for the Defenders, tallying 605 to give them a total of 1911. Shiny had a measly 64 for the Spiders, putting them at 757 in the loss. Southridge improves to 25-30 in a tie for nineteenth as they follow the Rockers up the standings, while passing the 24-30 Web City. Postgame, the Spiders management team said major changes would be coming to the franchise barring a spectacular finish for the pool tournament season, and as many as three players may be cut from the roster in an attempt to hold the players accountable for this season's cricket collapse.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers look for a sweep in a game where both teams have plenty to play for. Fluffina made no mistake on her turn, knocking 584 for Maplewood in a strong start. Misty answered with 438 for Westside, a decent effort but a bit shy of the mark so far. Bryant chipped 292 for the Lumberjacks, but that worries the visitors in this wide-open game. Goatee scooped 554 for the Rockers, giving them the lead at the halfway mark. Diddley slipped with a pathetic 7 for Maplewood, and they face a lot of danger now. Midnight posted 408 for Westside, extending their lead quite well. Cubby got those points back, hitting 405 for the Lumberjacks, but they took the loss on 1288. Chicky Phil went with a simple finish, scoring 168 to put the Rockers at 1568 in their win. Westside pulls into sole possession of nineteenth with their seventh straight win at home, moving to 26-30, while Maplewood is down to 26-24, falling closer to the bubble.

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Volcanoes get a chance to rebut the Hummingbirds' claims on the West Division lead, but the Shores want to sweep the Volcanoes for the year. Starlight fumbled with only 80 for Pacific at the start. Bear punished the error, ripping 697 for Whitewater to give them a huge initial lead. Ms. Kitty got 402 back for the Volcanoes, but they have a ways to go to catch up. Twinkie III fired back with 543 for the Shores, padding their lead at the midpoint of the game. Jack produced only 208 for Pacific, and they seem set for a loss here. Cheddar slipped up with a weak 54 for Whitewater, but the lead is still strong. Leonette did well with 490 for the Volcanoes, but they came up short at 1180 in the loss. Wild Thing took 144 to cap the Shores win at 1438. Whitewater gets a surprising sweep, going to 22-35, while Pacific's three-game winning streak ends with them falling to 35-21, into sixth place behind the Knights.

That's all for the this week. I will try my best to get Week 28 out quickly, but no promises. Standings update to follow shortly.
