We're back with the middle segment of the week now. First up here...
Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Hummingbirds can strengthen a grip on the West Division if they can sweep the Specters. Princess had a down output in this one, taking only 245 for Tysini to begin with. Slinks plucked just 131 for Harrison, and they'll start from behind today. Leandra ripped 631 for the Hummingbirds to give them a bigger lead on her former team. Twinkie II stopped at 164 for the Specters, making the deficit steeper. Charli added a modest 247 for Tysini, keeping their lead relatively strong. Sydney shot back with 470 for Harrison, closing the gap a little bit. Bright had a pathetic 8 for the Hummingbirds, and they could be vulnerable at 1131 as their final. Brownie had 176 for the Specters, and they took the loss with 941. Tysini gets away with an ugly win, going to 34-19 in their fifth straight road win to strengthen their grip on first in the West, while dumping Harrison at 20-32.
Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Crowns prevailed over the Torpedoes in their home opener, but the fortunes have flipped since then for these teams. Frosty lacked control for Royal, scoring a weak 33 in the opening attack. Smudge didn't do that well either, hitting 224 to give Infinity a tenuous lead. Jake knocked 603 to give the Crowns a bigger second effort. Shelley covered the deficit and then some with 687 for the Torpedoes, restoring a minor lead. Marsell shot back with 527 for Royal, giving them another lead. Gabe faltered with 45 for Infinity, and they are now in danger of a loss. Nightfur failed to secure the game, getting tangled up early and scoring 12 for the Crowns, putting them at 1175 total. Whiskers hammered 582, blowing the Crowns out of the water as the Torpedoes win with 1538. Infinity is up to 30-23 on a ten-game winning streak that has them firmly entrenched in a playoff spot. Royal is 16-35 on their fifth straight loss, and sixth in a row on the road.
Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: Southwestern Derby rivals meet while tied in the standings, with the Prestige having a chance to sweep but momentum on the Torpedoes' side. The winner takes tenth, while the loser will be in thirteenth. Smudge chipped 328 after earning a replay from a technical error, a reasonable total to start Infinity with. Acorn got jammed and took 112 for Lighton, who now trail noticeably. Shelley failed to gain separation with only 160 for the Torpedoes. Spirit slapped 587 to give the Prestige the lead halfway through the game. Gabe came up weak again with only 50 for Infinity, and they're in trouble in this one. Twinkie I had just 64 for Lighton, failing to keep the lead safe. Whiskers breathed life into the Torpedoes offense with her 751, putting them at 1289 total. Lydia only clipped the last ball she saw, and it went sky high for a score of 46, giving the Prestige the loss with 809. Infinity guts out another tough game to make it eleven straight wins, and a record of 31-23, while Lighton is 30-24 after settling for a season split with their rivals.
UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks look to get a split in their stopover at home against the Surfers. Watermelon hit 425 for Pearl to lead things off in solid form. Fluffina could do nothing to stop an arcing ball from taking out her wicket after a deflection, ending at a paltry 78 for Maplewood. Neopolitan added 322 as the Surfers chug along. Bryant had only 238 for the Lumberjacks, and they remain behind at the halfway mark. Wings churned out 772 for Pearl in a strong appearance to boost the lead again. Diddley answered with a crisp 692 for Maplewood, attempting to give them a chance for a late comeback. Cowzart fumbled his way to 33 for the Surfers, ending their offense at 1552. Cubby got beat on a swing and miss at 350 for the Lumberjacks, and they lost with 1358. Pearl sneaks away with the win to get to 30-23 in a tie for eleventh, while Maplewood is 26-23 and in fifteenth.
Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Defenders look to get even after an early loss to the Union back at home. Also, prior to the game, the Union announced their uniforms for 2016-17 will be their black, silver, and gold ones. Boots had a meager 112 to start Southridge's attack. Juno fired back with a big 696 for Modernistic, staking out a sizable lead. Debby grabbed 247 for the Defenders, but they still trail significantly behind. Ms. Puppy supplied the Union with 467, adding nicely to their offense. J. Garcia couldn't get off the starting blocks, ending with 112 for Southridge. Chimpy declined his optional replay, opting to pocket 594 for Modernistic as they hold this game quite securely. Shaggy hit 155, putting the Defenders at 626 in a brutal loss. Puff I iced it with 160 to make a final of 1917 for the Union's win. Modernistic gets the sweep, improving to 21-31, while Southridge is 23-30 after seeing a five-game winning streak snapped.
AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Pirates look for a sweep, having won two weeks ago at home over the Waves. Delila had a modest 178 for Atlantic, which isn't the start they wanted. Snuggle failed to take advantage of the situation, hitting a measly 90 for Oceanside. Amber shot back with 210 for the Pirates, continuing a low-scoring theme for the game. Bells saw her turn end early when she failed to pick the top corner, ending at 21 for the Waves in a bad game for the spectators. Americus swung 535 for Atlantic, giving them a stronger lead late in the game. Alyssa stumbled to 122 as it appears Oceanside is ready to take a harsh loss. Dominic went with 245 to put the Pirates at a total of 1168 in what should be a win. Pounce tried a rally with 457 for the Waves, but they came up short at 690. Atlantic takes the sweep to get to 26-22, ending a four-game losing streak, while Oceanside is sliding at a bad time and stands at 30-24 after the loss.
Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes have a chance to sweep the Gems, which would help their campaign for the West Division lead nicely. Smokey floundered with the bat for Diamond, producing 202 after his turn-ending mishap. Starlight answered with a more reliable 439 to give Pacific the initial lead. Citrus flubbed her turn and ended up with 96 for the Gems. Ms. Kitty hit a simple 263 to keep the Volcanoes in charge. Pedey picked up a sad 113 for Diamond, and the deficit continues to grow from their point of view. Jack unleashed 609 for Pacific, a lot of offense from a surprising source that should secure the victory for the hosts. Cassandra failed to cover the deficit with a measly 129 for the Gems, which put them at 540 in the loss. Leonette brought a quick end with 120 for the Volcanoes, giving them 1431 in the win. Pacific is back in a virtual tie for first in the West, standing at 35-20, although they lack games-in-hand against the Hummingbirds, while Diamond is 23-32 after suffering a sweep.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Flames are the ones trying to sweep here, which could be a big spoiler on the Surfers if they can pull it off. Crystal had 202 in a shaky opener for Queens. Watermelon picked up 392 for Pearl, giving them a noticeable lead. Kayla shot back with 615 for the Flames, easily covering the deficit. Neopolitan faltered with 84 for the Surfers, and they now trail at the halfway mark. Max slipped up with 32 for Queens, allowing their lead to become unstable. Wings got some back with 182 for Pearl, but the sloppy effort leaves them needing more with a player each to go. Paige got beat by a pair of deflections, ending her efforts at 78 to put the Flames at a final of 927. Cowzart nearly pulled it off with 256 for the Surfers, but they fell with 914 in a narrow defeat. Queens takes the season series in a sweep, moving up to 21-35, while Pearl falls to 30-24 in a three-way tie for eleventh.
Tridents Park sponsored by Ford, Pronger: The Spurs had a convincing win over the Tridents earlier in the season and seek to complete the sweep here. Spice had a slow swing for Victoria, and it eventually brought her down with 96. Strawberry couldn't really get on a run, and her cautious play drew 231 for Pronger to take a small lead. B. Chapman pulled the Spurs ahead with her 432 in a strong appearance. Hoot essentially matched it with 429 for the Tridents, keeping their lead intact. Yekaterina failed to cover the deficit with a meager 80 for Victoria, allowing them to fall behind. Precious did enough with 288 to give Pronger confidence heading into the final batters. Kavan smashed 712 for the Spurs, a stunning effort to give them 1320 total and put pressure on the hosts to respond. Paps erased it with 730 for the Tridents, carrying them to a victory on a final score of 1678. Pronger earns the season split in the thrilling finish, going to 19-34, while Victoria is just a half-game ahead at 20-34.
Ebay Center, Queens: Last week, the Flames went on the road and beat the Gems, and they want to do it again to pick up a sweep at home. Diamond's Smokey displayed a bit of bad judgement in swinging at a ball that rolled slowly to him, and the next one knocked him out. Crystal shot back with 341 for Queens as they take the early lead. Citrus popped up with 184 for the Gems, as their team-wide slump continues. Kayla added a simple 256 for the Flames, maintaining their lead well. Pedey had a paltry 96 for Diamond, and they appear to have no hope and no drive to save this game. Max likely secured a Queens win with 631 in an impressive appearance. Cassandra lost it when a ball rolled off her backhand and out of bounds, giving her 164 to put the Gems at 555 in another devastating loss. Paige didn't so much, but her 41 to make it 1269 overall for the Flames produced a quick finish. Queens has swept the series to move to 22-35, while Diamond is guaranteed a losing season as they hit 23-33.
Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Knights put their league-leading winning streak on the line for a Center Division match with a chance for them to sweep the Crowns this year. Kiwi began with 331 in a decent showing for Terrace City. Frosty had almost no response with a measly 33 for Royal. Jennifer clubbed 729 for the Knights, solidifying their lead nicely. Jake shot back with a fully respectable 465 for the Crowns. Oreo's recent binge ended with a meek 89 for Terrace City this time, making them a bit shakier. Marsell got some back with 184 for Royal, but they are still pretty far behind with not much time to change that. Stripes had to really dig deep to make a stretching save, but she never settled in, having 147 to put the Knights at 1296 total. Royal's collapsing offense continued, with Nightfur's 96 leaving them at 778 in a loss. Terrace City snags another sweep, another division win, and a thirteenth game for their winning streak, improving to 33-20, while Royal is 16-36 and riding a six-game losing streak.
That's all for tonight. We'll probably play the rest tomorrow for this week, and maybe dig into Week 28 as well.
