UPCL Cricket - Week 21 Part 3

The finale for week 21 begins here, in its final segment. Leading off...

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves return from a bye week to face the desperate Prestige in this game. Acorn got off to a hot start for Lighton with 645 on the opening turn, setting a lofty standard for the hosts to meet. Snuggle returned to a bit of a home slump with 192 for Oceanside, putting them in a deep deficit early on. Spirit hammered another 750 for the Prestige, giving them significant padding on their lead. Caitlin made up a bit of ground for the Waves, smashing 950 to get them closer at the halfway mark. Twinkie I did a good job of keeping the Lighton offense steady with 631, mitigating any upcoming damage quite well. Celestia couldn't quite keep up with 529 for Oceanside, but she prevented things from getting too much worse. Salmo faltered with a measly 33 for the Prestige, giving them a final of 2059. Dewey did enough with 401 for the Waves, carrying them to a win with 2072. Oceanside's narrow victory puts them at 24-21, while Lighton seems disheartened completely at 18-28.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights need a statement game against the Sharks, whose heavy schedule this week might be catching up to them a bit. Chelsea did show a bit of fatigue for Eastside with only 136 on the opening turn, a weak effort from the captain. Kiwi slugged 1288 for Terrace City in response, giving them a massive lead with the excellent performance. Taylor chipped only 225 for the Sharks on her turn, barely denting the deficit her side faces. Jennifer countered with 471, adding a reasonable amount to the Knights lead midway through the game. Niki clobbered 615 for Eastside, hitting the ball with purpose as she tried to dent the deficit. Oreo picked up a simple 310 for Terrace City, maintaining the lead but doing no more than that. Paps couldn't do anything for the Sharks with his pathetic 21, leaving them at a disappointing loss with 997 total, a massive downturn from recent efforts by the team. Stripes would not go quietly for the Knights, pounding 851 to give them 2920 as their big winning final. Terrace City gets their statement win to go to 25-19, while Eastside drops off at 18-25.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige begin a four-game home stand by hosting the Meteors in their last of a pair of road games. Viewpoint Sound got off to a nice start after Mams scored 604 on her replay from a technical error, giving them a hearty lead. Lighton answered with 465 from Acorn, who did well despite not having a steady swing as he brought his team fairly close. Hoot had only a meager 96 for the Meteors on their second attack, leaving the visitors a bit vulnerable. Spirit didn't have an easy turn for the Prestige, but her 216 got them a bit closer at the halfway point. Nibbles had only 111 for Viewpoint Sound when a ball glanced off his bat during his back swing. Twinkie I covered the deficit with 392 for Lighton, giving them the late lead they've been wanting. Dominic proved to be a cruel opponent, slugging 1190 for the Meteors at the end to bring their total to 2001 to make it difficult for the hosts to match. Salmo folded at 566 after a fierce attempt to rally, leaving the Prestige with the loss at 1639. Viewpoint Sound rises again to 15-19, while Lighton sits at 18-29 and thoroughly frustrated not to be getting results.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates host their neighbors, the Tridents, who are undefeated in Eastern Hills Division games. Pronger only got 272 from Precious at the start of the game, a weaker than expected performance from the captain. Delila countered with 472 for Atlantic, giving them a minor lead after the captains have had their swings. Zach drilled 842 in response for the Tridents, carrying them much farther ahead for their second attack. Isabella had an early exit with 74 for the Pirates, putting them in a deep deficit at the halfway mark. Spot paddled another 691 for Pronger, giving them a big boost for their lead. Americus made a mess of the comeback for Atlantic, falling quickly at 153, making no progress as it appears the hosts will take another loss. Potter tapped another 346 for the Tridents, giving them a final score of 2151, which they expect will give them another division win. Klaus went with 457 for the Pirates, a decent effort on its own but not enough to prevent them from losing with 1156 in the game. Pronger rises to 21-18, while Atlantic drops off at 27-18.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige are desperate for a win, while the Predators have more of a cushion for their first game of the week. Shawn got hit with a mandatory replay early on, and produced a decent 346 on the second attempt for Midland. Acorn couldn't even come close to that mark, getting beat on a deflection to end with 126 for Lighton in a poor start. Rainmane took advantage of the stumble, carving out 609 for the Predators to greatly pad their lead in the second attack. Spirit managed to cancel out Shawn, hitting 345 for the Prestige, but they remain far behind at the halfway mark. Leonardo kept the Midland offense steady with 369, adding just enough to their lead. Twinkie I answered with 548 for Lighton, pulling them closer with a player each to go. Fuchsia drilled 850 for the Predators on her turn, breaking out in a big way to give the visitors a final score of 2174. Salmo fell with only 112 for the Prestige, giving them a final of 1131 in the loss. Midland broke away at the end to improve to 23-19, while Lighton sinks further to 18-30.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers want to join the chaos in first place, but the Arrows have a chance to upset the balance of the league in their third of a five-game road trip. Sally led off with 481 for Archtown, a stable start to the game that portends a competitive battle. Misty shot back with a crisp 717 for Westside, building her pace as she went to give the hosts the initial lead. Sleepy B. tripped up at 224 for the Arrows, unable to cover the deficit as the visitors slip firmly behind. Goatee was quickly overwhelmed at a measly 79 for the Rockers, keeping things close at the halfway mark. Ruby got locked up at 273 for Archtown, giving them a small lead this time, but not enough to fully scare the hosts. Midnight clubbed 655 for Westside in response, building up a large lead before the final players come to bat. Dusky couldn't overcome the deficit with 264 for the Arrows, leaving them at 1242 in the loss. Slinks countered with 482 to ice the Rockers win at 1933 overall. Westside's win makes it a four-way tie for first with their record at 30-15, while Archtown drops down to 24-22.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters hope to keep their recently strong offense in form to challenge the Pirates, who badly need a win. Delila didn't have the most decisive pace for Atlantic, but she was persistent in scoring 644 to give the visitors a strong first attack. Sydney fired back with even more authority for Harrison, crushing 995 to give the hosts the lead. Isabella responded with 552 for the Pirates on her turn, restoring a smaller lead in their favor. Twinkie II couldn't handle a ball that bounced high in front of her, shouldering it out of play to finish on a poor 101 for the Specters. Americus rallied with 688 for Atlantic in a fantastic turn, boosting their lead quite a bit. Lexi chipped back with 448 for Harrison, but they slipped farther behind with only a player each to go. Klaus hit 478 for the Pirates in a good turn, bringing their total score to 2362. Sugar did well with 439 herself, but the Specters fell short with a final of 1983. Atlantic gets a critical win to rise to 28-18, while Harrison falls back to 18-29 with the loss.

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades have a chance to retake first place alone as they start a five-game home stand, but the Waves stand in their way. Snuggle started with a sturdy 392 for Oceanside this time, giving them a reasonably good performance to open with. Snowball managed to poke Swordpoint just ahead with her 416, giving them a minor lead initially. Caitlin couldn't figure out her pace at all, ending at 304 as the Waves lose a bit of traction. Dreamy went the other way for the Waves, boosting their lead to a more respectable level with her 591 at the halfway mark. Celestia faltered at only 87 for Oceanside, ruining their chance of catching up after the dud appearance. Bandit kept things strong for Swordpoint with his 368, extending their lead at a good time. Dewey lifted 609 for the Waves in a desperate attempt to keep them afloat, which will force a response from the hosts as they close with 1392. Stealth came through with 499 for the Blades, icing their win at 1874.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes have a chance to rebound into a tie for second place, while the Lumberjacks are just trying not to embarrass themselves at this point. Fluffina didn't meet that objective very well for Maplewood, cratering at 176 in a poor start for the visitors. Starlight cobbled together 567 for Pacific on her turn to give them a significant lead early on. Diddley had a poorly placed swing that ended his turn with just a measly 75 for the Lumberjacks, furthering the deficit. Ms. Kitty supplied another 402 for the Volcanoes, padding their lead pretty well. Bryant didn't make any progress for Maplewood, adding a weak 99 to their already pitiful offensive output. Leonette flipped 513 for Pacific on an excellent turn, strengthening their lead once again with the effort. Waluigi bailed with only 16 for the Lumberjacks, leaving them at a minuscule 366 total points in a brutal loss. Chicky Phil tacked on another 480 for the Volcanoes, bringing their winning total to 1962. Pacific cruised in this game, going to 30-15 on the year, while Maplewood sinks to 13-29 with the loss.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves' next two games are Coastal Divisionals, this one against the similarly-ranked Stills. Easter was quickly pressed onto her backhand for Todavía, and the flick play failed, leaving her with a paltry 57 in a low-scoring start. Snuggle immediately jumped on the mistake, cracking 764 for Oceanside to give them a hefty initial lead. Sierra picked up 320 for the Stills in response, not enough to really have an effect on the deficit. That being said, Caitlin put the Waves in danger with only 25 on her turn, as she faltered amid a cluttered pitch. Sparkles tried to charge for Todavía, but she lost her pace along the way and couldn't cover the deficit with 345. Celestia didn't help the Oceanside cause much with 112, unable to continue her lengthy run of strong play at home with the dud effort. Bells made the deep run with 834 for the Stills, churning her way to a final team score of 1556. Dewey fell with 385 to give the Waves only 1286 in the loss. Todavía stole the win late to get to 22-18, while Oceanside slips to 24-23.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs have a chance to be spoilers as the Warriors could take first place with a win. Twilight may be a bit tired as of late, scoring just 141 for Central in one of her weakest outings of the year for the visitors. Panda didn't get Southern extremely far ahead, batting a modest 320 to give them an early lead. Dustin left his turn a bit frustrated that he let a ball skim off the handle of his bat and out of play, bringing him down at 383 for the Warriors, enough to cover the deficit. Hoppy lost some ground for the Monarchs with her 304, keeping the low-scoring game close at the halfway mark. Mario went very big for Central, bashing his way to 728 to give the visitors a distinct lead. Pounce reclaimed a lead for Southern with his 703, but the lead is smaller than it was before as the final players come to bat. Gizmo kept the counterattack strong with another 745 for the Warriors, bringing their final score to 1997. Shannon fell short with 560 for the Monarchs, leaving them at a narrow loss with 1887. Central gets their first place position, at 27-13, while Southern drops to 14-22.

Henry Ford Memorial Stadium, Pronger: The Tridents begin a doubleheader that ends at the start of the next week, while the Eagles look to continue their resurgence. Goldy had a very messy turn for Everton, flailing around until her backhand soared out of play at just 77 points in a terrible start. Precious produced a decent 331 for Pronger, giving them a slight lead at the start of the game. Puff III saw her offense crumble early at 226 for the Eagles, unable to cover the deficit in a tough game. Zach padded the Tridents' lead with his 455, giving them a small boost halfway through the game. Kirstin can blame a deflection for her early exit, as it stalled her with only 80 points to add to Everton's poor offensive efforts thus far. Spot chipped 213 for Pronger on his turn, quickly running out of patience amid a cluttered pitch. Blizzard stormed forward with 466 for the Eagles, but they ended at 849 in the loss. Potter went with 273 for the Tridents, and it was enough for them to win 1272. Pronger gets the big win to improve to 22-18, while Everton is down to 25-19.

That's all for this week. New standings will be up soon, and the players of the week will be named on Twitter @UnitedPCL.
