UPCL Cricket - Week 22 Part 1

We're back for the start of week 22, which features a number of doubleheaders. Leading off one such instance is...

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The straggling Prestige wrap up a four-game home stand by leading off the week against the Tridents in the first game. Precious has lost a bit of her edge for Pronger, producing only 144 in a weak start this time. Acorn also had a messy start for Lighton, hitting a measly 72 that sees them behind in a low-scoring start. Zach got the Tridents on the right path, smashing 847 to give them a much bigger second lead. Spirit couldn't keep control of her swing for long, crashing out at 113 as the Prestige face a massive deficit. Spot provided another 539 for Pronger on his turn, extending their lead by a significant amount. Twinkie I actually got some back for Lighton with 761 on her turn, but they are still far behind with little time to recover. Potter fought it off well for the Tridents with his 711, setting their final at 2241. Salmo got caught a bit off-guard at one point, hitting only 245 to leave the Prestige at 1191 in the loss. Pronger had no trouble getting this win to rise to 23-18, while Lighton slips back to 18-31 with the loss.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige end this brutal home stand against a Spiders team not yet ready to throw in the towel. Shadow's performance suggested otherwise for Web City, with a measly 12 to start the offense in horrendous form. Acorn got distracted late in the game, but performed reliably at the start to accrue 556 for Lighton, giving them the initial lead. Ted made a dent in the deficit with 471 for the Spiders, but not enough to cover it this time. Spirit did her part to extend the Prestige lead, crisply delivering 593 in an excellent second attack for the hosts. Shiny went big for Web City, slashing 886 to cover the deficit and make things a bit more interesting than they were. Twinkie I restored a smaller lead for Lighton with 601 on her turn, and they'll hope the lead holds late in the game. Dani chopped 376 for the Spiders, but came up just short of forcing a response, as the visitors lose with 1745. Salmo ended with 218 for the Prestige, the light individual effort capping a 1968-point burst for the win. Lighton is up to 19-31 on the year, while Web City drops back to 16-23.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors begin a three-game home stand as the Volcanoes begin a road doubleheader with this game. Starlight was a motivated captain for Pacific, starting slow but building to score 823 in the lead off position. Mams got knocked down at only 96 for Viewpoint Sound, a disappointing start to their arrival at midseason. Ms. Kitty responded with 574 for the Volcanoes, following her captain's slow-build style to wear away at the opposition. Hoot fired off 555 for the Meteors this time, mitigating the second attack at the halfway mark. Leonette tried to be a bit too direct on her turn, ending with an early exit at 214 in a mediocre effort for Pacific. Nibbles made a fairly large rally in response for Viewpoint Sound, cutting deep into the deficit with his 720 to make it closer at the end. Chicky Phil collected 382 for the Volcanoes at the end, leaving them with 1993 total. Dominic had a good attempt with 438, but the Meteors were short at 1809 in the loss. Pacific edges closer to first place at 31-15, while Viewpoint Sound goes down to 15-20.

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Volcanoes next travel inland to visit the Shores, who host this as a one-off with both teams in their third jerseys. Pacific's Starlight stayed strong with 585 for the visitors in a good opener. Bear answered with a better pace to his turn, carving out 759 to give Whitewater the first lead. Ms. Kitty didn't have time to get comfortable, popping a ball out of bounds at 49 as the Volcanoes find themselves in a bit of trouble. Twinkie III cut her own turn short with an ill-timed double-tap, ending at 229 as the Shores lead remains marginal. Leonette did enough for Pacific to cover the deficit and then some, slicing 616 in the performance that got them ahead. Marsell covered that damage with 330 for Whitewater, but their lead is very small as the final players come to bat. Chicky Phil didn't get as much as he wanted with 308 for the Volcanoes, putting their final at 1558, a vulnerable mark. Shaggy sealed the Shores win with her 351, bringing their final to 1669. Whitewater continues to rise to 19-13, while Pacific falls back to 31-16.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors play the second of their three-game home stand against the Spurs, who look to find their footing again in this road game. Spice got off to a rough start for Victoria, hitting only 200 after a deflection ended her turn prematurely. Mams answered by crushing 1384 for Viewpoint Sound at the start, giving them a huge lead in the early going. Yekaterina fired back with 934 for the Spurs, unable to cover the deficit but providing a big dent. Hoot weakened the Meteors lead by hitting only 145 on his turn at the halfway point of the game. B. Chapman pulled Victoria narrowly ahead with her 468, going at pace until her backhand failed her in the end. Nibbles pounded 759 for Viewpoint Sound in response, giving them a stronger lead with a player each to go. Wario fell well short of the mark with 271 for the Spurs, giving them a losing final score of 1873. Dominic topped off the Meteors win with 615 himself, giving them 2903 total. Viewpoint Sound had no trouble this time, going to 16-20, while Victoria sinks to 21-23.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: It's a Coastal Divisional this time, with the Waves taking on the less-fortunate Monarchs side. Panda couldn't raise his bat quick enough to knock down a ball that jumped over his handle, cutting his turn short at 298 for Southern. Snuggle took advantage of the misstep, ripping 751 for Oceanside to put them firmly ahead after the first players' turns. Hoppy continues a stretch of reliable outings for the Monarchs, covering the deficit here with her 568. Caitlin just missed restoring a lead for the Waves, falling at a meager 108 to put them slightly behind. Pounce launched another good attack for Southern, striking his way to 527 to give them a noticeable lead. Celestia just let a ball skim off her back swing for Oceanside, flying out of bounds at 162 to hurt the hosts' chances of a comeback. Shannon tacked on 400 for the Monarchs to bring them 1793 total for the game. Dewey crashed out at 57 for the Waves, leaving them with a loss on 1078 total in a large collapse. Southern surged to the win, improving to 15-22 as a lethal opponent to their fellow division members, while Oceanside falls back to 24-24.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes are back home to face the Pilots, who are hungry for a season-sweep with third place sort of on the line in this Generations Derby. Valencia couldn't get herself going for Golden, falling quickly at 158 in a poor opening turn. Starlight tried to play through some tough bounces, but she sent a ball too high to end at 263 in a slow start for Pacific as well. Dusty saw a very high bounce off a dead ball stall her turn at 306, although it would have been called back for replay anyway for the Pilots star. Ms. Kitty produced 647 for the Volcanoes, an excellent attack to give them a firmer lead. Strut didn't even challenge the effort at 16 for Golden, leaving them in a deep hole now. Leonette bashed another 824 for Pacific on her turn, giving them a comfortable lead with a player each to go. A. Charlton chipped 147 for the Pilots, but they would be well short in the game, losing with 627 total. Chicky Phil iced the Volcanoes win with 569 individually for a final of 2303. Pacific makes it five in a row at home as they improve to 32-16, while Golden drops back to 26-14.

Nike Field, Commerce: Both teams go with third jerseys as the Monarchs hope to boost their recent success while visiting the Tradewinds. Panda had another jittery start for Southern, leading with only 242 in this appearance, a poor first attack for the visitors. Tigerette couldn't best it for Commerce, ending at a middling 225 to keep things close early on. Hoppy provided a stronger second attack for the Monarchs, picking up 512 while sloppily but effectively working a backhand at one point. Ice Cream got most of it back with 496 for the Tradewinds, but they will need to strike deeper at some point. Pounce kept the Southern offense in form with 548 on his turn, extending their lead quite nicely. Lionel came up clutch for Commerce, lining 894 at a great moment to give the hosts a lead with the final players coming to bat. Shannon answered with 463 for the Monarchs, bringing their final to 1765. Lorde barely covered the deficit, chipping 152 to give the Tradewinds 1767 in the surprisingly narrow win. Commerce is up to 18-24, while Southern slips back to 15-23.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates and Shores are stuck between tiers, and the winner will have the inside edge on moving up in this game. Bear kept up the recent good road efforts, leading off this game with 519 for Whitewater at the start. Delila got a bit too much under one ball, ending her turn at 185 for Atlantic. Twinkie III replied with a decent 407 for the Shores, doing well to keep their lead and production steady with the effort. Isabella cut into the deficit for the Pirates, swatting 615 to close the gap a bit halfway through the game. Marsell didn't get too flashy for Whitewater, calmly churning his way to 498 to keep them in the lead as the game progresses. Americus got a good amount back with 416 for Atlantic, but they remain behind and have little time to make their move now. Shaggy led the Shores in offense, but the balanced team effort saw her hit 527 to give them a final of 1951. Klaus came up short at 368 for the Pirates, leaving them with a losing score of 1584. Whitewater moves ahead of their hosts at 20-13, while Atlantic drops down to 28-19 with the defeat.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds are back in action at home, hosting the upstart Defenders in their second of a four-game road trip that was interrupted by a bye week. Bianca wasted no time in getting Southridge on the board with a big 706-point opening turn from the rookie. Tigerette couldn't get all of it back, countering with a decent 441 to keep Commerce in range early on. Debby had a bit of a choppy turn for the Defenders, slipping at 375 as their lead takes a slight hit. Ice Cream flipped the game around, slugging 1128 to put the Tradewinds definitively ahead at the halfway mark. Stephanie tried to get too fancy for Southridge, quickly getting knocked down at 24 as they are now sitting ducks. Lionel shouldered away 242 for Commerce, adding modestly to their impressive lead late in the game. Hughbert made a deep charge with 607 for the Defenders, but came up short as they took the loss with 1712 overall. Lorde capped the effort with 192 for the Tradewinds, sealing their win at 2003. Commerce improves to 19-24, while Southridge slips to 17-26.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts open a doubleheader to end the segment against their Southeast Division rivals, the Crowns, who may put up more of a fight than expected. Nightfur hit well with 465 for Royal at the start, giving them a solid foundation to attack their experienced hosts. Patches began the four-game Boston home stand with great form, hammering 858 to give them the lead. Jake refused to go quietly for the Crowns, managing to cover the deficit with his solid 408. Puff II's casual style only worked for so long before she fell with 168 for the Swifts, weakening their mid-game lead. Kayla put a little too much on one hit for Royal, falling at 69 and failing to cover the deficit the other way. Gradley made sure to capitalize on this advantage, twirling a masterful 985 to spin Boston into a big lead with a player each to go. Hannah had three false starts for the Crowns on her turn before scooping 328, leaving them at 1270 in a brutal loss to their division rivals. Sweetheart stayed strong with 495 for the Swifts in the parting shot that gave them the win at 2506. Boston gets a piece of third place for now at 28-14, while Royal falls to 12-31 with the loss.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts keep the same jerseys on to face the Tradewinds, who hope to play a tough game against a team they battled hard with last year. Tigerette had a perfect pace going before she failed to adjust her swing on a higher offering, ending her turn at 185 for Commerce. Patches saw a couple of deflections responsible for ruining her turn, and she fell at 82 for Boston. Ice Cream had a longer and grittier performance for the Tradewinds, grabbing just 267 despite the hard road she faced to get there. Puff II pulled in enough with 432 for the Swifts, covering the deficit at the halfway mark. Lionel got the lead back narrowly for Commerce, but his 289 isn't expected to hold up in the low-scoring battle. Gradley replied with 384 for Boston, doing his part to put them ahead again before the final players take their turns. Lorde hit 128 for the Tradewinds on her second try, the first wiped out by a mandatory replay after a technical error, giving them a loss at 869. Sweetheart matched it with 128 for the Swifts, icing their win at 1026. Boston rises again at 29-14 with the ugly win, while Commerce is down to 19-25.

That's it for this segment, with more to come tonight.
