UPCL Cricket - Week 22 Part 3

We're back to bring this week to a close. We begin the segment with...

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts play the third of a four-game home stand against the Sharks, who wrap up a pair of road games. Chelsea took an early stumble at 239 for Eastside, leaving them in a tricky position early in the game. Patches answered big for Boston, carving out 745 immediately to give the hosts a sizeable lead right from the start. Taylor attacked with pace, but didn't last very long, falling at 211 when she sent a ball too high, ultimately making things tougher for the Sharks. Puff II couldn't keep control on her turn, dropping out at 157 as the Swifts' lead is destabilized. Niki made only minor progress against the deficit with a weak 183 for Eastside, keeping their offense weak. Gradley tried to be a stabilizing force for Boston, hitting 376 in a reasonable turn that keeps their lead safe for now. Paps had another pitiful outing for the Sharks, with only 39 this time as they take the loss with 672. Sweetheart capped the Swifts win with 487 individually, leading them to a total of 1765. Boston has won eight straight at home to get to 30-14, now in second place, while Eastside falls to 18-26.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors look to make a surge as they end a three-game home stand, while the Defenders close out their four-game road trip. Bianca hesitated too long on deciding to swing for a ball, getting another one caught behind her bat to down her at 138 for Southridge. Mams answered with 553 for Viewpoint Sound, a good turn to put the hosts ahead. The Defenders seem road weary and ineffective, as Debby produced a meager 60 on her turn. Hoot also had a sloppy turn, hurting the Meteors' ability to stay ahead by scoring only 101. Stephanie hauled in a critical 691 for Southridge, covering the deficit with the big appearance. Nibbles shot back with 509, restoring a slightly smaller lead for Viewpoint Sound as they hope to hold on late in this game. Hughbert poked 328 for the Defenders at the end, enough to give them 1217 total and force a response from the hosts. Dominic didn't do much with 262, but enough for the Meteors to win at 1425. Viewpoint Sound is up to 17-20, while Southridge falls again to 17-28.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Wolves are ready to kick off a five-game home stand, first hosting the Sharpshooters. Chris clubbed 662 for Capital City in a hot start, giving them a strong performance to lead off this road game. Juno fired back with 622 for Stonebridge, doing her part to keep the hosts close initially in what's been a high-scoring set of turns. Missy slapped a quick 446 for the Sharpshooters, adding nicely to their lead in the second attack. Frosty lost a bit of ground for the Wolves on her turn, contributing 304 as they slip farther behind at the halfway mark. Sprinkles had a near disaster early in her turn, but recovered quite well to extend the Capital City lead with her 687. Cobalt ruined the comeback for Stonebridge with his 272, putting them far back with a player each to go. Nicole tacked on another 544 for the Sharpshooters, giving their lead some protection at 2339 overall. Prism didn't give much chase with 147 for the Wolves, sealing their loss at 1345 in a big collapse. Capital City rebounds to 23-23, while Stonebridge drops down to 18-25 on the year.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders look to keep their recent home results rolling against a Spurs team wrapping up a thus-far fruitless three-game road trip. Spice batted 506 for Victoria in a good start for the visitors, putting the hosts on notice early. Shadow pulled Web City ahead by a modest margin, smacking a quick 629 for the early lead. Yekaterina had a great pace on her optional replay for a technical error, but it didn't last as she ended with 280 for the Spurs. Ted extended the Spiders lead, playing a pacey 515 to give them a larger cushion at the midway mark. B. Chapman couldn't cover the deficit for Victoria with her 280, putting them into a dangerous position this late in the game. Shiny shot back with 627 for Web City, continuing her recent surge in production to help solidify the lead a bit more for the hosts. Wario chipped 160 for the Spurs at the end of their game, setting their losing final score at 1226. Dani iced the Spiders win with 343 individually, giving them a collective 2114. Web City's spoiled another team, going to 17-23, while Victoria drops down to 22-26.

HP Field, Midland: The Predators and Specters are each playing their first game of the week in this meeting between the two teams, with the visitors trying for the season sweep. Sydney hit a reasonable 389 for Harrison to open the scoring, just leaving a bit earlier than she wanted. Shawn put Midland slightly in the lead with his 440, the margin not enough to be comfortable with yet. Twinkie II gave the Specters a stronger second attack with 631, pulling them into a nice lead. Rainmane answered with 734 for the Predators, edging them a little farther ahead at the halfway mark. Lexi did alright with 376 for Harrison on her turn, enough to cover the deficit but not by much. Leonardo broke free with 703 for Midland, doing a lot of damage to the visitors while boosting the hosts just the same. Sugar can't get off the schneid here, hitting just 171 to end the Specters game at 1567, giving them a loss. Fuchsia lined another 674 for the Predators, bringing their winning score to 2551 in a big performance. Midland improves to 24-19, while Harrison is 18-30 on the year.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves, already having played more than their share, begin a six-game home stand against the Flames, who are in the third of a five-game road trip. Crystal had two blunders, missing a ball and then hitting it backwards into her wicket to stall her turn at 329 for Queens. Snuggle shot back at a high pace for Oceanside, corralling 476 to give them the early lead. Paige had no trouble covering the deficit for the Flames, swatting a quick 441 on her turn. Caitlin had 263 for the Waves, not quite enough to save the hosts from a deficit at the midway mark. Violetta shot back with 567 for Queens on her turn, padding their lead quite a bit to make it interesting later in the game. Celestia got beat on a slow-speed offering, swinging and missing as her turn ended at 391 for Oceanside, giving them a deficit to face with a player each to go. Max rallied with 512 more for the Flames, giving them a final score of 1849 in the close game. Dewey fell short with 304 for the Waves, giving them 1434 in the loss. Queens gets a big road win, going to 24-17, while Oceanside drops to 24-26 on the year.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates begin a home-road-home tripleheader while the Flames wrap up a road doubleheader in the fourth of their five-game road trip. Crystal had quite the spotty start for Queens, taking only 153 in a lackluster turn at bat. Delila answered with 450 for Atlantic on her turn, putting the hosts ahead with a good effort. Paige shot back with a massive 919 for the Flames, giving them a lead with the second attack. Isabella replied with 331 for the Pirates, unable to cover the deficit as they fall behind at the halfway mark. Violetta shot back with 663 for Queens, padding their lead to make it even more substantial at this stage. Americus couldn't corral a ball on her backhand, causing her turn to end abruptly with 224, which damages the Atlantic comeback hope. Max paddled another 484 for the Flames, giving them 2219 overall in what will presumably go down as a win for the visitors. Klaus accepted an optional replay, but lost ground when he hit only 259, giving the Pirates a losing final of 1264. Queens jumps to 25-17, while Atlantic is down to 28-20 with the loss.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: Eastern Hills Division rivals clash as the Pirates make a short road trip for the middle game of their tripleheader. Delila flicked a decent 380 for Atlantic, just getting overwhelmed late in her turn before going out. Juno answered with 467 for Stonebridge, putting them slightly ahead early in the game. Isabella nearly got all of the damage back for the Pirates, churning out a solid 464 to restore their earlier lead. Frosty picked up 343 for the Wolves on her turn, not enough to cover the deficit but keeping the game close halfway through. Americus swatted 520 for Atlantic in response, doing a good job to extend their lead at this point of the game. Cobalt fell off the pace for Stonebridge, hitting a middling 286 as the hosts have fallen behind with a player each to go. Klaus pummeled another 839 for the Pirates at the end, sending their final score to the lofty height of 2203. Prism didn't even come close with 231 for the Wolves, leaving them with a losing final of 1327. Atlantic improves to 29-20, while Stonebridge is 18-26.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates complete the tripleheader against a Spiders side getting good at playing the spoiler role. Shadow took an early stumble for Web City, giving them a mediocre 231 to start off the scoring in this game. Delila kept a modest profile for Atlantic as well, putting them narrowly ahead with her 276 in a low-scoring start. Ted provided a much stronger attack for the Spiders, lining 650 to put them well ahead with the effort. Isabella wouldn't let the Pirates back down, smacking 726 to regain the lead at the halfway mark with a big performance. Shiny clobbered another 655 for Web City in a big turn to cover the deficit once more. Americus made a mess of her turn, deflecting a ball into her wicket to end at just 46 as Atlantic falls far behind with little time to recover. Dani tacked on 681 for the Spiders, giving them 2217 total and likely securing another victory for the side on the rise. Klaus couldn't save the day this time, falling quickly at 167 as the Pirates lose with 1215. Web City rises once again to 18-23, while Atlantic is at 29-21 after the tough stretch of games.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters look to get over .500 again, facing a tough Predators team embarking on a five-game road trip. Shawn stepped up nicely for Midland, drilling 691 to give them a stable start to the game. Chris couldn't produce an acceptable response, crashing out at 248 in a rough first turn for Capital City this time. Rainmane answered with 432 to pad the lead for the Predators in a solid addition to the offense. Missy erupted with 930 for the Sharpshooters on her turn, doing enough to give them a lead at the midway mark. Leonardo did cover the deficit for Midland, but his 183 leaves them in a vulnerable position. In a sloppy turn of events, Capital City's Sprinkles hit a pathetic 57, leaving them slightly behind with the final players coming to bat. Fuchsia rallied with 578 at the end to give the Predators a total of 1884. Nicole put in quite the effort with her 556 at a good pace for the Sharpshooters, but they fell with 1791 in a narrow defeat. Midland hangs on for the win, going to 25-19, while Capital City falls back to 23-24.

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores finally reach midseason in this game, hosting a Surfers team finding its scoring edge again. Watermelon made a very quick exit for Pearl, scattering only 128 points on a disorganized turn in the lead off role. Bear answered effectively for Whitewater, posting 473 to give the hosts the initial lead in this game. Neopolitan provided a strong counter with 529 for the Surfers, covering the deficit on her turn. Twinkie III responded by belting 950 for the Shores, pulling them much farther ahead with the second attack at the halfway mark. Boots replied with 404 for Pearl, unable to cover the deficit as the visitors begin to feel dejected about the result of this game. Marsell kept the Whitewater offense flying with his 694, padding their lead again late in the game. Wings flicked 354 for the Surfers, but it was far from enough to save them from taking a loss with a total of 1415. Shaggy made it a big win with 748 for the Shores, icing their final score at 2865. Whitewater makes the jump to 21-14, while Pearl falls back to 20-22.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The finale of the week features the Warriors trying to reclaim second place against a tough-as-nails Knights team in their third of a four-game home stand. Twilight is starting to develop a road slump, picking up only 233 for Central to lead off this game. Terrace City only got 99 out of Kiwi in an uncharacteristically poor outing from their captain. Dustin couldn't pull in anymore than 282 for the Warriors, enough to add modestly to their lead in the low-scoring battle. Jennifer broke the game open with 791 for the Knights, enough to give them a noticeable lead at the halfway mark. Mario fired back with 562, enough for Central to cover the deficit at least temporarily. Oreo put Terrace City back in the lead with her 447, but the lead has shrunk as the final players step up to take their turns. Gizmo tapped 495 for the Warriors on his turn, forcing a response from the hosts as the visitors end with 1572 overall. Stripes choked the game away at the end with 153, giving the Knights just 1490 in the loss. Central's seventh straight road win puts them at 28-13, while Terrace City slides to 28-20.

That's all for this week of cricket. We'll be back either tomorrow or Thursday to begin Week 23, and we've got a batch of links on the way on Twitter @UnitedPCL.
