UPCL Cricket - Week 22 Part 2

The middle segment of the week is upon us, with more doubleheaders leading off. First up...

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs play three of the next four games, including leading off a doubleheader here by hosting the Defenders before beginning a road trip. Bianca got Southridge going with a solid 450 on the opening turn, giving them a solid foundation. Victoria fired back with 696 from their captain Spice, giving them the initial lead in this game. Debby had a modest 296 for the Defenders, covering the deficit but not by much. Yekaterina slapped a big 780 for the Spurs in response, with the big performance essentially doubling the hosts' lead halfway through the game. Stephanie got beat by a deflection on her turn for Southridge, falling at 288 as the visitors fall farther behind. B. Chapman saved a few points for the upcoming game, hitting a weak 145 for Victoria this time to keep their lead steady enough. Hughbert didn't get enough for a rally, taking 197 to give the Defenders a losing total of 1231. Wario got in on the fun for the Spurs, smashing 659 to ice their win at 2280. Victoria improves to 22-23, while Southridge falls to 17-27 with the defeat.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Union bring in the Spurs, who may feel some effects from their travels as they start a three-game road trip. Spice is struggling on the road suddenly, taking just 80 for Victoria in a poor start to this game. Ms. Puppy effectively countered for Modernistic, drilling 755 to give the hosts a sizeable lead early on. Yekaterina tried to go to her backhand for the Spurs, but a fast offering caught her out of position, ending her turn at 353. Daisy lost a bit of ground for the Union with her 144, the home slump troubling her more than anything else. B. Chapman committed to making the attack on her turn, but a bounce after she had started her swing ended her turn at just 80, hurting the Victoria comeback effort. Puff I made no mistake on her turn, padding the Modernistic lead significantly with 927, likely assuring them of victory. Wario had only 168 for the Spurs, far from enough to help as they lost with 681. Strawberry struck 409 for the Union on her turn, icing their win at 2235. Modernistic played well to rise to 19-22, while Victoria fell to 22-24 with the loss.

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades have a home doubleheader ahead, beginning with top-tier opponents in the Golden Pilots. Valencia had an incredible pace at first, but slipped in that regard before ending at 379 for Golden, a respectable first turn. Snowball seemed destined to pull Swordpoint ahead, but fell just short at 376, making it a very close game early on. Dusty couldn't settle her swing down for the Pilots, crashing out at 271 in a weaker second attack. Dreamy opted to decline the optional replay, accepting 463 for the Blades after ending in a technical error. Strut provided a critical counterattack for Golden, slicing 661 to pull them far ahead with the effort. Bandit fought it off very well for Swordpoint, carving 696 to restore the lead for the hosts ahead of the final players' turns. A. Charlton had a mild 253 for the Pilots at the end, icing their offense at 1564, which doesn't look to be enough. Stealth tapped another 279 for the Blades, enough to earn the win with 1814. Swordpoint reclaims first place for now, improving to 34-16, while Golden is 26-15.

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades now host their Southwestern rivals, the Spurs, in their third of five straight at home. The visitors are in the second of a three-game road trip. Victoria is tired, evidenced by Spice dragging her way to 307 to start off this divisional battle. Snowball nearly doubled it for Swordpoint, pounding her way to 602 to give the hosts a nice lead. Yekaterina has acted as the heartbeat of the Spurs lately, and she struck again with 719 to cover the deficit in a big way. Dreamy picked a terrible time for one of her worst games of the year, hitting just 82 for the Blades. B. Chapman weakened the Victoria lead badly with her 183, leaving them somewhat vulnerable at this stage. Bandit saved the day again for Swordpoint, rallying with 594 to pull them ahead with a player each to go. Wario completely killed the Spurs with a measly 32, as a ball just rolled off the end of his backhand to end his turn and his team's offense at 1241. Stealth hauled in a solid 448 for the Blades, capping their win at 1726. Swordpoint pulls farther ahead of the league at 35-16, while Victoria drops back to 22-25 with the tough loss.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades return from a week off to host a strong Knights team that has gotten plenty of rest as well. Kiwi belted 1038 for Terrace City on the opening turn, showing no signs of rust and burying the hosts almost immediately with the pacey effort. Jasmine got a strong portion of it back for Freedom, swinging her way to 645 in a good response. Jennifer got just about all of that back with her 621 for the Knights, keeping their lead fairly steady and strong. Stinky kept the offense high with 534 for the Cascades, but he lost ground for the hosts at the midway point. Oreo chose to accept 399 for Terrace City instead of taking a replay, allowing the technical error to end her turn at a reasonable amount. Roxy made a slight push forward for Freedom with 530, cutting into the deficit a bit late in the game with the performance. Stripes added another 408 for the Knights, hoping it will be enough as they finish with 2466. Nikolai fell short at 305 for the Cascades, leaving them in a loss with 2014. Terrace City's gutsy win got them to 26-19, while Freedom drops off at 12-20.

Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots look for some revenge on the Eagles, who caused their recent downturn, while the visitors hope to keep soaring in this Gold Derby. Goldy started off very slow for Everton, but ended up hammering 807 to give them a massive lead anyway. Valencia had some trouble with deflections, cratering at 224 as Golden continues to struggle. Puff III tacked on another 450 for the Eagles, padding their lead nicely with her appearance. Dusty stalled out at 383 for the Pilots, hurting their chances of a comeback at the halfway mark. Kirstin left the door open, hitting only 105 for Everton as her backhand only slowed the inevitable when a ball got behind her. Strut made a large dent in the deficit with his 554, bringing Golden much closer but with only a player each to go. Blizzard tried to hold off the hosts with her 472, putting the Eagles at a final score of 1834. A. Charlton didn't even come close for the Pilots, her 224 setting them well short at a final of 1385 in the loss. Everton gets the season sweep to go to 26-19, while Golden sinks to 26-16 with another loss in this brutal week.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights get back home to start a four-game home stand, while the Waves are in town for a one-off road game. Snuggle chipped a solid 442 for Oceanside at the start, a good performance from the inconsistent captain. Kiwi pulled Terrace City ahead with her 609, giving them a slight initial lead with her performance. Caitlin couldn't get her turn on track, with her backhand failing her and leaving the Waves with just 113. Jennifer padded the Knights lead lightly with her 301, giving them a stronger advantage at the halfway mark. Celestia went big with a nice pace for Oceanside, grabbing 603 to give them a temporary lead at the worst. Oreo got knocked down with 162 for Terrace City, keeping them at a deficit before the final players take their turns in a quick turn of events for the game. Dewey tallied 629 for the Waves at the end, sealing their offense up at 1787 in a late burst. Stripes wouldn't be denied for the Knights, swatting 790 to give them 1862 in a narrow win. Terrace City gets a huge morale boost to get to 27-19, while Oceanside might just spiral from here, at 24-25.

Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills open their four-game home stand with a tough visitor, as the Rockers begin a three-game road trip in this appearance. Westside got a hot start with 456 from Misty, giving them a solid base to build upon already. Easter just put Todavía ahead on her turn, slapping 497 to produce a minor lead for the hosts. Goatee fired back with 854 for the Rockers, putting them much farther ahead with a reliable second attack. Sierra got caught in an awkward position when a ball took a playable deflection, but she mishit it and ended her turn with a pitiful 113 for the Stills, putting them far behind. Midnight tacked on 503 for Westside, basically running up the score at this point in the game. Sparkles reclaimed 361 for Todavía in a decent performance, but they remain far behind with little time to fix it. Slinks broke her road slump with 583 for the Rockers, bringing their strong final to 2396 in a presumptive win. Bells hit 351 for the Stills, a decent effort but not enough as they lost with 1326. Westside gets a boost to 31-15, into a tie for third place, while Todavía drops down to 22-19.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Wolves ride a recent home hot streak against an unlucky Pilots team that seems to keep catching teams at their hottest as they try to break a slump. Valencia smacked 814 for Golden at the start, her best opening in quite awhile for the visitors. Juno didn't let that get her down, countering with 563 for Stonebridge to keep them in striking distance. Dusty covered Juno's damage quite effectively, batting 578 to keep the Pilots in control of this game. Frosty pulled in 472 for the Wolves, allowing the deficit to grow a bit larger halfway through the game. Strut fired back with 777 for Golden, padding their lead immensely with the strong performance. Cobalt almost nullified that attack with 752 himself for Stonebridge, but they have just one turn left to make a move for the lead. A. Charlton had an accidental backhand for the Pilots, ending her turn abruptly at 144 to give them 2313 overall. Prism couldn't hold on, bailing at 239 as the Wolves lose with 2026. Golden finally snaps their funk to get to 27-16, while Stonebridge falls to 18-23 with the loss.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights play their bitter rivals in the second of a four-game home stand, while the Eagles wrap up a four-game road trip with their eyes on a season sweep. Goldy pulled in 330 for Everton at the start, watching her pace slowly drop before she bowed out. Kiwi clobbered 821 for Terrace City in response, doing her part to give the hosts the initial lead, and by a good margin too. Puff III didn't put up much of a challenge with 176 for the Eagles, allowing them to slip further behind. Jennifer flicked back with another 703 for the Knights, extending their lead greatly. Kirstin got a ball caught under her bat near the end of her turn, which she rolled backward accidentally, giving Everton just 286 in offense. Oreo kept things simple with 264 for Terrace City, maintaining their large lead late in the game. Blizzard tried to make a run for the Eagles with her 320, but they lost with 1114 overall in a poor team outing. Stripes put in no effort with 24 for the Knights, icing their win at 1812. Terrace City makes the jump to 28-19, getting quickly around the 26-20 Everton side.

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades are looking to add to their league lead, but the Shores want to keep a mammoth road surge going. Bear stayed in form with 543 for Whitewater, continuing his recent trend for road performances. Snowball kind of sprayed her hits around, but there were plenty of connections as she scored 950 for Swordpoint to lead things off. Twinkie III made a mess of the comeback effort, ending on a pathetic 12 for the Shores, who are in deep trouble. Dreamy showed no mercy for the Blades, slugging 1040 to pad their lead significantly. Marsell got a large chunk back with 812 for Whitewater, but his team remains far behind due to the depth of the deficit they previously faced. Bandit kept the Swordpoint lead very safe with 663 on his turn, giving the hosts nothing to fear. Shaggy pushed back with 726 for the Shores, but they came up quite short at 2093 in a high-scoring loss. Stealth tapped 184 to bring the Blades to 2837 in the win. Swordpoint retains the league lead at 36-16, while Whitewater drops to 20-14.

Henry Ford Memorial Stadium, Pronger: An Eastern Hills Divisional ends the segment, as the Tridents put their perfect division record on the line to host the Wolves. Juno had a fairly wild turn for Stonebridge, and it didn't last long, as she scored only 200 in the game opener. Precious faced a very tough turn for Pronger, but scraped 696 to give them a big lead, twice using her backhand to keep going. Frosty hit a solid 480 for the Wolves, but the effort wasn't enough for her to cover the deficit. Zach did what he could to keep the Tridents in control, going to his backhand twice but failing the second time at 384, losing a bit of the lead. Cobalt slashed 678 for Stonebridge in response, covering the deficit this time to make things a bit more interesting. Spot basically got it all back with 647 for Pronger, restoring their lead with a player each to go. Prism barely forced a response from the hosts with her 425, leaving the Wolves vulnerable at 1783. Potter did his job with 448 for the Tridents, sealing their win at 2175. Pronger remains perfect in the division, rising to 24-18 overall (7-0 in division), while Stonebridge is 18-24 (2-3 in division).

That's it for this segment. Another six games or so on tonight live on Twitter @UnitedPCL; the rest will be played Tuesday night.
