UPCL Cricket - Week 23 Part 1

We're beginning a new week here, leading off with...

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts look to continue their ascension against a Tridents team a tier below them in quality. Precious accepted a rather modest 253 for Pronger despite being offered an optional replay after a technical error was adjudged to have occurred. Patches kept her turn crisp and strong for Boston, slicing 670 to put them in the lead in the early going. Zach tried to pull off a double-hit but sent one ball too high, ending with a poor 83 for the Tridents. Puff II's recent home struggles persisted, as she added only 180 for the Swifts, a small boost to their lead. Spot chipped in with 359, a good turn that ended a bit too early when he couldn't direct the final ball properly as Pronger remains behind. Gradley pounded out a strong 630 for Boston on his turn, extending their lead with the effort. Potter couldn't haul the Tridents out of their hole with a mild 207, leaving them to take a loss with 902 total. Sweetheart tapped a tiny 99 to give the Swifts their win at 1579. Boston moves up to 31-14, taking over second place, while Pronger slides to 24-19.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Swifts will hope to avoid fatigue in this one-off road game up north against the Tradewinds, who try to salvage a season split here. Patches showed a bit of improvement in scoring 718 for Boston, a great start for the visitors. Tigerette couldn't get the pace or position of her swing right for Commerce, falling early at 272 as the hosts face an early deficit. Puff II also gave the Swifts a stronger outing this time, batting a good 506 to pad their lead nicely. Ice Cream made a mess of the comeback effort, exiting early with only 128 for the Tradewinds as their situation grows more dire. Gradley had quite the blooper for Boston, missing a ball on his swing and then bumping it into his own stumps to end at 250 in a middling turn. Lionel couldn't keep the ball down for Commerce, ending at a pathetic 45 as they seem doomed to take the loss this time. Sweetheart flicked 726 for the Swifts at the end of the game, icing their offense at an even 2200. Lorde went big with 640 for the Tradewinds, but far too late for it to matter, as they lost with 1085 total. Boston rises again to 32-14, taking over first place in the league, while Commerce falls to 19-26.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: Two teams making late pushes for a playoff spot, but only one will have a healthy chance by the end of the game. Shadow had a good pace going for Web City, but he sent a ball too high, ending his turn at a paltry 80. Spice kept the ball down a bit better for Victoria, setting them ahead with her 399 in a decent outing from the captain. Ted slugged 1242 for the Spiders, coming out of nowhere to put them far ahead with a great performance. Yekaterina essentially negated the whole effort with 1223 for the Spurs, the surging sophomore recovering a lead for the hosts. Shiny just covered the deficit for Web City with her 328, leaving them in a highly vulnerable position. B. Chapman answered with 359 for Victoria on her turn, restoring their lead to its previous level before the final players take their turns. Dani couldn't keep up for the Spiders, her 256 setting them short at a final of 1906. Wario tacked on 292 for the Spurs, putting their final score at 2273 in the win. Victoria rises to 23-26, while Web City is back to 18-24.

Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots begin a four-game home stand looking to rebound up the standings, while the Lumberjacks end a four-game road trip. Maplewood's Fluffina didn't blow anyone away with her 281 for Maplewood, but it was an acceptable opener. Valencia got twisted, allowing a ball to glide along her bat to take out her wicket at just 122 for Golden. Diddley built up a bit of a rally for the Lumberjacks, hammering 684 to give them a stronger lead. Dusty got beat on a deflection at 240 for the Pilots, putting them farther behind in a surprisingly tough game. Bryant tacked on another 432 for Maplewood, as they're cruising efficiently in what's becoming an upset. Strut gained a minor amount on the deficit with 460 for Golden, but they are still far back with a player each to go. Waluigi did alright amid the chaos of his turn, tapping 192 to bring the Lumberjacks to their total of 1589. A. Charlton had one of her better turns with 504, but the Pilots still lost with 1326 in a tough game. Maplewood is up to 14-29, while Golden drops down to 27-17 as their slump worsens.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights wrap up a four-game home stand against the Sharpshooters, who look to get back in the playoff picture on their two-game road trip. Chris wasted little time in getting Capital City going with a big 617 for the strong opening turn from the captain. Kiwi kept things close at the start for Terrace City, firing back with 600 on a good counterattack. Missy replied with 513 for the Sharpshooters, giving them a slightly smaller secondary lead. Jennifer had her worst game of the season for the Knights, hitting a measly 63 as they are firmly behind now. Sprinkles contributed a solid 391 for Capital City, extending their lead a little more with the effort. Oreo lined 817 for Terrace City in a remarkable surge, making the game close again as the final players come to bat. Nicole fought it off with 567 for the Sharpshooters, bringing their total to 2088. Stripes tried to rally, but fell short at 369 for the Knights, leaving them to take the loss with 1849 overall. Capital City is even again at 24-24, while Terrace City drops to 28-21.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors look to stay competitive for first place by hosting the struggling Nighthawks. Peach didn't have anything too crazy for North Modernistic this time, scoring 330 at the start to lead things off. Twilight finally turned in a stinker for Central, hitting a modest 206 as they'll begin this game behind. Luigi didn't provide much help for the Nighthawks with a poor 192, leaving them vulnerable. Dustin made moderate progress with 248 for the Warriors, but neither team has taken control as we hit the halfway point in a low-scoring game. Cheddar looked like she was on the way to a great performance, but a missed swing downed her at only 160 for North Modernistic. Mario edged Central closer with a sloppy 213, pulling off a backhand flick but then swinging and missing on the next ball to bring about the quick end. Bright couldn't break the funk for the Nighthawks with a wimpy 160, putting their final at 842. Gizmo got beat on a deflection for the Warriors, sending them to a loss with 732 after he hit a measly 72. The pitiful game ends with North Modernistic rising to 26-24, while Central falls out of the hunt for first at 28-14.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks try to snap an eleven-game home losing streak as they begin a six-game home stand, while the Pirates launch a four-game road trip as well. Delila played pretty well, scattering 400 for Atlantic at the start of the game to give them a solid base. Fluffina didn't get any lucky bounces to go her way, falling at just 99 for Maplewood in a slow start for the hosts. Isabella failed to pull away for the Pirates on her turn, chipping 150 in a weak appearance for the rookie. Diddley just grabbed the lead for the Lumberjacks with 487 on his turn, putting them marginally ahead at the halfway mark. Americus hit a ball very hard, causing a deflection that would have gotten by at a lower speed. Instead, she ended at 331 for a struggling Atlantic side. Bryant lost a slight bit of ground for Maplewood with his 320, but they still hold a very small lead, with the game to be determined by the final players. Klaus made a strong rally with 734 at the end, giving the Pirates 1615 overall. Waluigi almost kept his pace going for a long time, but he bowed out at 357, leaving the Lumberjacks to take their twelfth straight home loss at 1263. Atlantic rises to 30-21, while Maplewood is 14-30 on the year.

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades look to reclaim first place as they end a five-game home stand, while the Predators play the second of a five-game road trip. Shawn churned out 564 for Midland against his former team in a strong start to the game for the visitors. Snowball would not be bested this time, rallying with 728 to put Swordpoint ahead initially. Rainmane got beat on a ball served close to her hands, which she sent out of bounds at 283 for the Predators. Dreamy collected another 671 for the Blades, pulling them farther ahead at the midway point. Leonardo couldn't cover the deficit for Midland, leaving them behind with his calm 311. Bandit kept the Swordpoint offense flying with his 519, and it looks as if they'll be able to get this win. Fuchsia contributed 320 for the Predators, but they still took the loss at 1478, ending their six-game road winning streak. Stealth racked up 602 on a good finishing turn, giving them Blades 2520 in a large win. Swordpoint is up to 37-16, while Midland falls back to 25-20 with the loss.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders' young team has withered a bit, and facing the Rockers won't help their comeback efforts. Misty couldn't establish Westside at all on her turn, hitting a meager 128 in a slow start to the game. Bianca stepped up immediately for Southridge, drilling 592 to put them well ahead after the opening turn. Goatee appeared poised to make a deep cut, but she ended up with only 266 for the Rockers, keeping them at a deficit still. Debby did successfully hit a ball on her backhand, but she missed the next offering, cratering her score at 368, although the Defenders retain a healthy lead. Midnight charged back with 534 for Westside, the sudden burst almost enough to cover the deficit. Stephanie faltered with only 208 for Southridge, nearly doing worse had it not been a false start, but their lead is still smaller late in the game. Slinks technically forced a response with her 241 for the Rockers, leaving them at 1169, a point ahead for now. Hughbert canceled it out with 249 for the Defenders, setting their final at 1417 in the win. Southridge pulled off the upset to get to 18-28, while Westside falls into fourth place at 31-16.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks' second game of their six-game home stand is against their undefeated-in-division Northeastern rivals, the Warriors. Twilight can't shake this drought for Central, hitting a moderate 231 this time in a poor and frustrating start. Fluffina failed to do any better, working at a good pace until a tough deflection downed her at 99 for Maplewood again. Dustin put in a much more confident appearance for the Warriors with his 743, giving them a nice lead. Diddley had an early exit with 162 for the Lumberjacks, unable to keep his swing down enough. Mario had a lot of pop on his turn, but he also took some wild swings, eventually accepting 305 to avoid an optional replay as he padded Central's lead lightly. Bryant had a turn going for Maplewood, but a ball rolled up his bat and he ended with 379, a still-decent try. Gizmo picked up 215 for the Warriors, a poor result but enough to give them 1514, and they hope the win as well. Waluigi went at pace for the Lumberjacks, but he couldn't last long enough, his 597 giving them a losing total of 1237. Central stays perfect in the division, and rises to 29-14, while Maplewood is 14-31 with the loss.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers welcome the Torpedoes, who return from two weeks off for the first of a two-game swing along the coast. Smudge looked very well rested for Infinity, as she belted 1722 to give them a massive opening lead that might have already created the result. Watermelon was no slouch for Pearl, but her 506 barely dented the deficit her team faces. Solaris sustained an incredible pace for the Torpedoes, and added 1633 in a fantastic appearance by the rookie. Neopolitan kept it simple, acknowledging the hosts will take the loss as she hit 248 for the Surfers at the halfway mark. Whiskers was relentless for Infinity, making them the sixteenth team to put in a 4k performance with her 1062 in a great game. Boots chipped 207 for Pearl, furthering the brutal deficit in a very lopsided game. Mr. Snowman couldn't get the same pace as his teammates, instead falling with 242 to give them a final of 4659 in a presumably massive win. Wings had a valiant effort with 336, but the Surfers lost badly with 1297 total. Infinity got a huge spark to their season, rising to 25-19, while an already disheartened Pearl side sinks to 20-23.

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds play their fourth of a five-game home stand, while the Rockers close up a three-game road trip in this segment finale. Misty went with a good pace for Westside, but she didn't last long, falling at 326 in the quick opening turn. Princess also played a solid game for Tysini, but she left them just behind with her 319, a close start for the two teams. Goatee had a good run before being brought down by an early swing, tacking on 529 to the Rockers offense. Leandra couldn't keep up for the Hummingbirds, falling at 279 as they fall behind at the halfway mark. Midnight swatted another 595 for Westside, the crisp attack serving the visitors well as a boost to their lead. Two weeks off hasn't served Tysini as well, with only 36 points from Charli all but assuring they will take a loss in this game as the final players prepare to bat. Slinks put up 463 more for the Rockers on her turn, leaving them with a final of 1913. Brownie had a measly 48 for the Hummingbirds, leaving them in a loss with 682 total. Westside rises to 32-16, while Tysini drops to 15-21.

That's all for the this segment of cricket. We should have more on the way tomorrow night or on Sunday.
